The move follows Diego Maradona’s pledge to do the same if Argentina are victorious in South Africa. So, who will take their kit off first? Turkey coach Guus Hiddink has incredibly accused German star Mesut Ozil of possessing an invalid German passport.

Both German daily Bild and media in Italy have reported Hiddink’s claim. The former Chelsea coach said, “The German passport of Mesut Ozil is false. The document was falsified to allow the player to play for Germany, but he has no such right.”

Ozil has been one of the brightest stars at the World Cup so far. The 21-year-old Werder Bremen star has both scored and set up crucial goals for Germany as they have marched confidently into the quarter-finals. Unsurprisingly, some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona and Arsenal are being linked with Ozil.

Dutch coach Hiddink recently took over as Turkey coach. Ozil has Turkish parents and although he was born in Gelsenkirchen in Germany, he was apparently offered the chance to play for Turkey last year, but instead opted to play for the country of his birth.

If true then England may have a right to protest to FIFA, but it seems rather a strange claim to make.

South Africa beat Mexico to get the World Cup off to a colourful start. Mexico were favourites, so much for form…..

A late goal from Rafael Marquez denied South Africa a dream victory in the opening game of the 2010 World Cup finals in Johannesburg on Friday.

Barcelona ace Marquez popped up unmarked at the back post 11 minutes from time to fire inside the near post and dash the hopes of the host nation. It ended 1-1

The noise in the soccer stadium was non-stop, the South Africans blowing constantly on the vuvuzelas make a hell of a racket. After Mexico’s World Cup the wave came over here, please god these vuvuzelas don’t find their way over here.

Well Done Fabio Capello

Even before Kick Off of the World Cup, The England Team and Fabio Capello have done a wonderful thing. David Cameron has told British soldiers he is “incredibly proud” of their work in Afghanistan – and gave them a personal message from England boss Fabio Capello.

Speaking a day after a trip to visit frontline troops was scrapped amid fears the Taliban were planning to down his helicopter, the Prime Minister told them progress was being made in the country.

“Big progress is being made here,” he said to soldiers at Camp Bastian in Helmand province. You can see it in the training of the Afghan army.”

He added: “I can sum up this mission in two words – national security, our national
security back in the UK. We don’t have some dreamy ideas about what this mission is about, it is about that pure and simple.

The Prime Minister drew cheers from his audience when he told them their operational allowance was being doubled. And no doubt morale was raised with a message from Capello.

“It’s important you know how much all your effort means to the England players,” Mr Capello’s message said.

“We want you to know that you are the real heroes.”

Mr Cameron spent the night in Camp Bastian on the latest leg of his maiden trip to the country as Prime Minister.

He was forced to change his plans yesterday amid intelligence reports that his helicopter was being targeted by the Taliban.

Mr Cameron arrived in Helmand after pledging a “political surge” in Afghanistan to get British troops home as soon as possible.

He announced additional funding and labelled 2010 “the vital year” to make progress in stabilising the country.
