Monday Racing Preview

Wetherby gets the go-ahead on Monday, no need for an inspection, so we have three cards including two all-weather meetings at Wolverhampton and Kempton.

There are one or two nice lookig types on show at Wetherby, but in fairness the all-weather is its usual moderate stuff, with little in the way of excitemenet, unless you own a runner of course!

Tony McCoy rides at Wetherby

Howard Johnson runs Tigre Daron (12:55) who will go off very short but does have plenty of promise for the future. Too short to back but I would wager that there will be better prizes to come in the future for this horse.

There is an interesting Novice Chase at 2:35 where Tony McCoy makes the long trip to West Yorkshire to ride for Jonjo O’Neil. It looks a match between Alfie Sherrin and Glenwood Knight with little in it, but McCoy is always tough to get by!

One on the all-weather that stands out is Rhal at 2:20 but in fairness at even money I am prepared to let this one win without my money on its back!

Good Luck!

A great video I came accross I thought you might appreciate….

The Hitman On Saturday, 30 October

Free Horseracing Tips

The Hitman is that to mark your card for a big Saturday of action with flat racing from Newmarket and a top-quality jumps card at Wetherby. Will the Hitman be on target yet again? Free horseracing tips from Racing Diary…

Next weekend sees the Breeders Cup, with some real top-quality horses running and we will look in detail at that card next week. Although nothing quite reaches those heights on Saturday there is still plenty to go at and I think Frankie Dettori will continue his excellent form for Godolphin at Newmarket.

Here are todays Free Horseracing Tips, for Saturday 30 October 2010…..

Free Horseracing Tips

The Hitman Has Dettori in His Sights on Saturday!

Alexandros ( 2:35) is one of three Godolphin runners in the field but should quite readily be the best although the his biggest threat will probably come from stablemate Secrecy ridden by Jamie Spencer. rated 112 and sporting headgear for the first time Dettori looks to have the race at his mercy.

Picture Editor (3:45 Newmarket) is probably more interesting to watch today than to back, unless for some unknown reason he is offered at decent odds, but I would expect him to be short and I would expect him to win in the style of a good horse.. He has been the subject of a lot of Derby speculation since winning his maiden and then trotting up in a ridiculous degree runner race last time at odds of 1 – 14.  If those comments are anywhere near the mark then this should be nothing more than an exercise canter with only really  Measuring Time likely to put up any sort of reasonable opposition. if this one is offered at odds against then snap it up!

At a better price I like Kirklees (4:20 Newmarket) who has the able assistance of Frankie Dettori in the saddle and is another one of three runners saddled by Godolphin. The six-year-old will need to return to his best to figure here having run slightly below par on his last couple of runs but with the stable in such good form and then Kirklees at his best would have very strong claims and I think represents some value in this field.

The Buildup to the Cheltenham Festival Starts Here!

So we turn our attention to National Hunt racing and the Wetherby card for the Charlie Hall Chase is always decent, today is no exception. It is great to see some of the big names of jumps racing back from their summer breaks and I will be eagerly casting my eye over a few of today’s runners for the season ahead and the buildup of course to The Cheltenham Festival 2011.

Deep Purple one the Charlie Hall Chase 12 months ago for Evan Williams and is back to defend his title but faces some stiff competition not least from the veteran Ollie Magern, Barbers Shop and the horse I think will win, Nacarat (3:25 Wetherby). Deep Purple has to concede 10 pounds in weight to Nacarat which I think is a tall order to say the least and with Sam Thomas taking the ride for Tom George I am very keen here on the chances of the nine-year-old who at the weights looks to clear form pick.

Former Cheltenham winner Tidal Bay (2:50 Wetherby) reverts to hurdles in what has turned out to be a fabulous looking John Smith’s Hurdle. Fair Along is sure to take them along at a good clip and I think will set this up nicely for Tidal Bay although the likely favourite will be Nicky Henderson’s Duc De Regneire who is a top quality individual but for me despite having to give weight away Tidal Bay has bags of quality and can take this under Brian Hughes who has a very big chance to impress major connections today.

What ever you are backing today good look!

Free Horseracing Betting Tips from Racing Diary

3:50 Musselburgh Graceful Descent bolted up on her latest appearance at Ayr and should follow up in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Willie Park Trophy Handicap at Musselburgh. Jim Goldie’s mare has enjoyed an excellent campaign, winning three times and placed on numerous occasions. The softer ground she has encountered over the last couple of months seems to have helped her find a new level to her game and she should again have conditions in her favour. Graceful Descent is on a career-high mark now, of course, but she does not know how to run a bad race and looks certain to make her presence felt once again.

Free Horseracing Tips

By Carl Harris

I have to say I was really looking forward to the racing on Saturday, but the cards are a bit disappointing. Certainly it seems that Nicky Henderson has scared off quite a few.

Binocular and Punchestowns will both win but will not have a hard race and neither they or us the public will learn much ahead of the Cheltenham Festival. I understand that there is another Nicky Henderson hot pot making its debut at Sandown. I feel that the yard could have at least four winners so a multibet may be a good idea to get some decent return.

The racing should all go ahead over jumps with Sandown, Doncaster and Wetherby the venues with Lingfield offering all-weather flat action on the polytrack. I will give you my list of possible bets today.

Sandown…

1:30 Sandown, Binocular- Win. A three horse race with a gulf in class the likes of which you will only see at Old Trafford this afternoon. He will win on the steel and pick up over £14k for doing it. We will learn nothing from this and will get no price, only one for the big money buyers and one for a multibet. As good a thing as you can get in my view.

Free Horseracing Tips

McCoy rides for Nicky Henderson

2:05 Sandown, According- Win. This is another Nicky Henderson horse making it’s debut but the word from Seven Barrows is that this is a flying machine and is strongly fancied to win. I would take the earliest price possible as there is sure to be some good money for it. Anak is well regarded but According gets 10lb from it and should win. I hear they fancy it for the Triumph Hurdle! Zaynar won it for the yard last year and I suspect this will go straight to the head of the market should he win as expected.

2:35 Sandown, Punchestowns- Win. Yet another for the Henderson camp but a disappointing turn out for this valuable novice’s chase. Punchestowns is favourite for the RSA Chase and he will likely win unchallenged here at no price. If you want to buy a bit of money then this is another one to do so. One for the multibet.

Free Horseracing Tips

Nicky Henderson could land a four timer

Doncaster…

2:15 Doncaster, Mad max- Win. I really think this horse will be a high class chaser. Having seen him in the flesh I can advise that he is huge, a true chasing type who jumps well and covers plenty of ground with his long loping stride. This is another trained by Nicky Henderson, making it four. A Nicky Henderson four timer will cost the bookies a packet, so take the early prices before they shorten up.Mad Max is my banker of the day, assuming the price is right.

I recommend a Nicky Henderson Four timer, all four should win.!

Saturday Big Betting Handicaps…

3.25pm Doncaster-Blue Square Handicap Chase :
5-1 Free World, 7-1 Oiseau de Nuit, 8-1 I’msingingtheblues, Leo’s Lucky Star,  10-1 Kalahari King, Pepsyrock, 11-1 Tartak, 14-1 Doctor David, 15-1 Lennon, Tarotino, 18-1 Beggars Cap, 20-1 Lorient Express, 22-1 Moon over Miami, Santa’s Son, 33-1 Andreas (EW 1/4 1,2,3,4)

Verdict: Tartak is a very good each-way bet in my view. Last time he was totally outclassed in the King George, so disregarding that he has form that gives him a very good chance, certainly of getting in the frame. Take Tartak each-way.

Sandown 3.40pm Masters Handicap Chase:
5-1 Exmoor Ranger, 13-2 Razor Royale, 7-1 According To John, Killyglen, Massasoit, 10-1 Oedipe, 12-1 Lorum Leader, 14-1 Gone To Lunch, Pretty Star, 15-1 Lacdoudal, 18-1 Monkerhostin, 22-1 Or Jaune, 25-1 Psychomodo (EW 1/4 1,2,3)

A tough race and I have a soft spot for the vetran Lacdoudal, at a course he has won twice. I hope he runs well and is one for a small each way. One I do like is Killyglen who has the the benefit of  Tony McCoy in the saddle. I am sure he could have ridden Gone To Lunch but has opted for Howard Johnson’s top weight. I like his chaces and will be backing him.

Good Luck, have a good day.

Wednesdays Horseracing Tips, 25 November

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

Wetherby and Chepstow provide the jumps action on Wednesday with decent cards, certainly much better than Tuesdays cards which were shocking. Lingfield and Kempton offers punters an all-weather double header, but for me I will be giving it a miss.

As regular readers will be aware I am focusing on the jumps, spending my time on less meetings, which has paid dividends of late. I will be off to Wetherby for a nice lunch and a spot of punting.

I have also been told about a bumper debutant at Chepstow which is fancies to run a big race first time out. Here are todays recommended bets;

13:50 Wetherby, Lease lend- Win. Tim Easterby will have been pleased to get a win on the board last time out at Newcastle with Lease Lend. It was a case of ninth time lucky after running consistently well over the larger obstacles. Jumping is the name of the game and Lease Lend does this very well. Up only five pounds with a confidence boosting victory on the board I think he will win again and is my best bet of the day to do so.

14:25 Wetherby, Shifting Gold- Win. Kevin Ryan is more a flat trainer than National Hunt but when sending one over the sticks it is always worth taking note. Shifting Gold ran with credit when second at Newcastle, to Monsieur Jordian (who won at Sedgefield yesterday), which sets him up nicely to get off the mark here in this 14 runner Juvenile Maiden Hurdle contest. Brian Toomey takes seven off, good value for the claim, with the horse off a real low weight I will be a backer.

McCoy rides Amroth Bay

McCoy rides Amroth Bay

15:55 Chepstow, Amroth Bay- Win. Andrew Balding has booked AP McCoy for the racecourse debut, in a bumper, of his five year-old, eye-catching in itself. I have been told that this is strongly fancied to run well, but I would suggest that this will come and no surprise and will be reflected in the price. In truth the gelding will not have to be a world beater to win this race, certainly on the face of it. The market will be interesting but I will be getting on early.

Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Wednesday 25 November

  • 13:50 Wetherby, Lease lend- Win
  • 14:25 Wetherby, Shifting Gold- Win
  • 15:55 Chepstow, Amroth Bay- Win

Saturdays Horseracing Tips, 31 October

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

Its a really good day of racing with top quality cards on the flat at Newmarket and over jumps at Ascot and Wetherby. I hope that all goes well at Wetherby, a once great track which has had problems in recent seasons. They certainly have attracted some very decent runners and the day deserves to go well. I will be there with fingers crossed.

There are so many good races today and I will be having multiple bets, focusing on the top three meetings of the day at Newmarket, Wetherby and Ascot.  I have discovered a winning formula of late on the flat, back Godolphin! Their recent form is staggering.

2:35 Newmarket- Shaweel, Win

Shaweel (14:35) should enhance Godolphin’s strike rate which is one in three over the last couple of weeks, with Frankie Dettori winning with one in four rides in the same period. On Thursday ar Lingfield connections teamed up to land a four-timer and they are the team to follow. Shaweel looks very well treated in this listed race over a mile and should benefit from the drop in grade.

Get on Frankie at Newmarket

Get on Frankie at Newmarket

3:45 Newmarket- Prince Siegfried, Win

Prince Siegfried (15:45) is in form having won his last two races, last time out being a listed win at Ayr. Dettori takes the ride and should be full of confidence. I rate this one as the best bet, certainly on the flat, of the day. I will make this the cornerstone of my bets on this busy Saturday.

2:55 Wetherby- Tamarinbleu, Win

Wetherby’s Charlie Hall Chase has only attracted five runners but it is a competitive and quality race. Ollie Magern is looking for a third win in this race, clearly he likes the track. For me though Tamarinbleu (14:55) is worth taking a chance with. He has not won since January 2008, but is a high quality performer who if having benefited from a long break comes back fit, well and in the right frame of mind he could take some stopping. Hopefully his most recent form will make him a decent price and we may benefit from some value in this small field.

Fair Along at Wetherby

Fair Along at Wetherby

3:25 Wetherby- Fair Along, Win

I am a big fan of Fair Along (15:25) who is a tough little horse, especially over hurdles. He usually front runs and makes it a tough stamina test. Many people’s favourite hurdler, the tough Lough Derg makes his season reappearance making this a very decent race. David Pipe’s granite horse will have to give Fair Along four pounds, which I think may just be too much and I side with Fair Along.

1:50 Ascot- Gone To Lunch, Win and Place

Gone to Lunch (13:50) is my value bet of the day. With seventeen runners, over three miles, there will be plenty of layers keen to take on Gone To Lunch who has to give weight to the field. Fresh after a break he was last seen when second in Ireland in a grade one chase. I think he is tough and consistent with a decent young jockey, Nick Scholfield, taking over from McCoy who rides for his retained stable, and has a great chance at decent odds, certainly of a place.

Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Saturday 31 October;

  • 2:35 Newmarket- Shaweel, Win
  • 3:45 Newmarket- Prince Siegfried, Win
  • 2:55 Wetherby- Tamarinbleu, Win
  • 3:25 Wetherby- Fair Along, Win
  • 1:50 Ascot- Gone To Lunch, Win and place.

Fridays Horseracing Tips, 30 October

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

Jumps racing is really getting in to full swing with cards at Wetherby and Uttoxeter as well as a decent flat meeting taking place at Newmarket. Its a very competitive day of action but hopefully the form book will come up trumps and provide us with a couple of winners. Certainly if official ratings are to be believed there is a good thing at Newmarket.

1:50 Newmarket- Puff, Win

Puff (13:50) has a rating of 108 and has yet to win on turn despite having run in some high quality races including the group one Cheveley Park stakes last time. She has ten pounds in hand on official ratings and is the clear form pick to win this listed contest. Despite a few unexposed fillies in the line-up I really like puff to win.

Master McCoy..

Master McCoy..

2:05 Wetherby- Bannville, Win

It is very sad to see what has happened to Wetherby racecourse in recent years and it was even sadder to see fatalities last time. Hopefully we can consign that to history and get on with jumping at an excellent course in a lovely part of the world. Bannville (14:05) looks a good bet to follow-up on his win in a maiden hurdle at Stratford for James Lambe who has a very good record when bring horses over from Ireland. Although he has to concede seven pounds to his five opponents he should prove to good and add to the impressive statistics of jockey Tony McCoy.

2:40 Wetherby- Nelson Spice, Win

Nelson Spice (14:40) should add to Tony McCoy’s winners tally at the course in a decent looking handicap chase. McCoy was aboard last time when scoring last time at Cheltenham. The handicapper has raised him four pounds for that but I think he is still on a decent mark and can go in again in what looks a match with Professor Higgins. With McCoy in the saddle I fully expect a commanding performance and a good day for the champion in West Yorkshire.
