Thursday Horseracing Preview

Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary….

Well yesterday I wrote, “Buckie Boy (1:45) is a Nicky Henderson newcomer who has been the subject of some good reports” but still went off at 11-2, and won well. Obviously our source is more exclusive than I thought! Master of the Hall (2/1) made it a double for Henderson and two out of three for Racing Diary. A very good day.

Tony McCoy- rides for Nicky Henderson

On Thursday we have jump racing at Ffos Las and Warwick with flat racing at Southwell and Kempton. Ffos Las is a very nice course and the cards are usually of the highest quality.

Paul Nicholls introduces Rangitoto (1:50) who is already a short price. The word is out it seems but I hear this is one that the Ditcheat team are very keen on. I don’t like backing newcomers at short prices, I prefer 11-2 to be fair !! However this is one that based on reports should win on debut. Nicky Henderson should have a winner at Ffos Las but at a ridiculous price, but the Seven Barrows wagon keeps on rolling!

At Warwick Nicky Henderson has booked Tony McCoy to ride First In The Queue (1:10) who makes his debut and is one I think should win. There is no doubt that Henderson has some highly talented horses and takes on a horse that ran well on debut. This is my bet of the day, a jockey and a trainer in form.

Good Luck

Well I am back from my Easter break, but in all honesty I am more than happy to extend it for another day. Easter Monday has no shortage of racing but the ground is a real nightmare.

There is heavy ground and inspections scheduled for Monday morning which all adds up to a potential nightmare. If you are spending the day punting on Monday then take it easy. That is the best tip I can offer you today.

Here are your free horseracing tips for Easter Monday.

Fairyhouse (Ireland)

2:20 Fairyhouse- Cousin Vinny- Win. May be no price at all, but Cousin Vinny is a top class horse and needs to bounce back. If the layers are out to get him it may pay to have a bet in a race he should really win.

3:20 Fairyhouse- Donna Palm- Win. On a tricky day Donnas Palm should provide a safe winner, but again we may not get a great price. But this is one that should win, again involvement depends on the price.

UK Flat Racing…

2:15 Yarmouth, Dajen- Win. Fit from back to back wins on the all-weather Dajen should win again. There’s not much eye-catching form on display in this handicap apart from that shown by hat-trick seeking DAJEN. My best bet of the day!

5:15 Warwick, BlueSpinnaker- Win. A 6lb penalty makes this more difficult for Mick Easterby’s BLUE SPINNAKER than the race that he won at Doncaster on the opening day of the flat racing season but he won that with plenty in hand and can follow up here on testing ground. Warwick may be called off but if not we know that Blue Spinnaker handles the ground which many will not.

Redcar looks a nightmare and there is no bet there for me.

Good Luck.

We had a winner and a disaster yesterday but on the numbers it was a profitable day. Samurai Way won well at amazing odds! All eyes now turn to the Grand National, which is in only two weeks or so! The William Hill Lincoln kicks off the flat season on Saturday.

Here are your free horseracing tips for Wednesday from Racing Diary. Three jump meetings, at Haydock, Warwick and Hereford.

3:15 Haydock- Noun De La Thinte- Win. Our old friend Noun De La Thinte can get back to winning ways in a small field at Haydock. She is a game mare from a stable most definately in form. Mon Mome was third in the Gold Cup and now heads to the Grand National. Despite the rise in the weights Noun De La Thinte has been running well and as long as she jumps well, unlike last time, she should win.

4:50 Hereford- Overlaw- Win. Tom George has his team in the best of order. Overlaw is definately in good form, having won his last two starts, including last time out at Market Rasen where he bolted up by 14 lengths. He has a seven pounds penalty for that but given the style of that win that won’t bother him. Overlaw is my best bet of the day.

Warwick Gets the Go Ahead

This afternoon’s meeting at Warwick goes ahead after the track passed a 7.30am inspection. Six millimetres of rain fell at the venue overnight and while the ground is heavy, soft in places, clerk of the course Andrew Morris is satisfied with conditions. He said:

“The track is currently raceable and it has stopped raining now. There is the possibility that we may have to take out a couple of fences but we will make that decision nearer the time. We’re happy for racing to go ahead though.”

Sandown has been abandoned already.Warwick faces a 7.30am inspection, the ground at the track is described as soft, heavy in places and there is up to 8mm of rain forecast to hit the track on Thursday night.

It could be an all-weather only day on Thursday, not great news. I am not the biggest fan of the all-weather but I know a man who is, so I have turned to him for todays Free Horseracing Tips. You know him as The Professor.

Free Horseracing Tips for Friday 26 Feb;

2:00 Southwell, Boundless Prospect- Win. Yesterday wrote that I thought that Boundless Prospect had a huge chanceover 2 miles. Clearly the trainer thought differently and runs in what looks an easier race over 1m 6f. He always comes late so don’t be surprised to see him last turning in, but I think at the weights, in this claimer he will win here.In a small field he could be a good price.

All Weather action from Southwell

If Warwick does go ahead then I advise great caution. There are a couple of interesting possible bets on the card, but I would only venture to back one.

2:10 Warwick, Peveril- Win. Nicky Henderson has a host of quality horses and though not one of the superstras I do like Peveril. With seven pounds taken off by the excellent David Bass I would suggest that we have a well weighted horse on our hands. He drops down 2 furlongs, over which he won on this course last time, so stamina will not be an issue. I really like this, subject to the meeting going ahead.

We will shortly know if Denman will run at Cheltenham on Saturday. It will be a great card and I really hope he does turn up. You can follow the build-up to the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Facebook.

Thursdays cards come from Warwick and Ffos Las over jumps and Southwell and Kempton on the flat. The cards are not bad at all and our friend Noun De la Thinte runs again, could she win again?

4:00 Warwick, Noun De La Thinte- Win. Five wins on the bounce and she showed no signs of stopping last time out, when we were on. She had a penalty that day but escapes a further penalty as that was a lads race. I think she will win again and if the layers are taking her on then they will be sorry! She owes us nothing and I think she will defy the weight again.

3:05 Ffos Las- Caroles Legacy- Win. The Nicky Henderson yard has hit a brick wall at the moment but surely Caroles legacy can take this race. She is a highly progressive mare who looks high class over fences and for me will take a world of beating despite having to give weight to her rivals. Lets hope the stable form is just a blip. For me she is a very good bet.

Its the time of year when people start looking back at the year. I’m not one for looking back, I prefer to look forward. I can sum up 2009 easily, Sea The Stars and Kauto Star. Easy, it was the year of the stars. Looking forward to 2010 it should be another great year, and Cheltenham will be special, that’s for sure.

Its the last day of the year, but the racing is going out with a fizzle rather than a bang. The cold spell is still having its say and it is scheduled to get colder next week. Not a good start to the year, but they have added another fixture at Lingfield on Saturday, whoopie!

Only Warwick survives over jumps on Thursday with an all weather card at Lingfield. Here are my best bets for New Year’s Eve, which I suggest should be played with modest stakes.

13:50 Warwick, Arctic Shadow- Win. Arctic Shadow has won four of his five starts for Tim Vaughan and after a break returns fresh to try and add another win to those impressive stats. Up in the weights, but this is a race he should be up to winning. There could be plenty more improvement to come from a horse whose trainer is a past master at improving other people’s cast offs. The market will be interesting and should be observed before piling in.

Sea The Stars- Horse of 2009

14:50 Warwick, Carrickmines- Win. There will be plenty who will oppose this one given his sharp hike in the weights, a mere 17 pounds. But he made a mockery of his mark of 85 with tow very easy wins. This is a poor race and I would suggest he should win again. The jockey takes off seven pounds, which helps and is no mug. Let’s hope the layers get stuck in, if so we could find a bit of value to end 2009 in profit.

Have a very Happy New Year.

Its remembrance day and we should take a moment to pay thanks to all our brave servicemen past and present who have given up so much for us. In Afghanistan our boys are dying and we should not forget them. Have a look at Sky News to see all the young lives lost in that conflict.

So Wednesday, we have two jumps cards and all-weather racing this afternoon at Southwell and tonight at Kempton. I am going to focus on the jumps once again with bets at Bangor and Warwick. The weather is feeling more winter like, after a mild spell, it’s the proper jumps season now, in the cold.

13:40 Bangor- Free World, Win

Free World (13:40) has much to live up to carrying the colours of Kauto Star and Master Minded. He is not that class, but nonetheless is a decent chaser who makes his seasonal reappearance at Warwick in a small but very competitive field. Much has been said that he is a nearly horse but the stats show a 25 percent strike rate, with two wins from eight runs and he has been in the first three in six of those runs.  If he carried different colours I think he would have much less criticism to contend with. Ruby Walsh is aboard, the best horse in my view, and should get the better of Doctor David and the enigmatic Moon Over Miami.

Famous Colours carried by Free World

13:50 Warwick- Topsham Belle, Win

Nicky Henderson has a stable full of promising young horses having won so many bumpers last year. Topsham Belle, (13:50) is one such prospect who has run once, bolting up on her debut at Huntingdon. The stable has a great record with first time out hurdlers, indeed this stable is the hurdle stable boasting the current Triumph and Champion Hurdle crowns. I expect Topsham Belle to confirm the promise of her run in April with a win here.

From Longchamp to Warwick for Kieron Fallon

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

Well, what can I say? Sea The Stars proved that he is easily the best horse, certainly of this century and those that said he could be beaten were made to look rather foolish.

Is Sea The Stars the best ever? Well all he can do is win his races and he has won them all this year, all group one’s and those that lay claim to be the best ever all were beaten in their classic year, but he is the best I have seen. It was just fantastic, now I hope he goes to Santa Anita to show the world that he is the best, ever.

Back to earth with a bump on Monday with three meetings at Warwick, Pontefract and Windsor. Kieron Fallon, second in the Arc on the gallant Youmzain, teams up with Luca Cumani with three live chances. My bet today will be a multiple, combining doubles and a treble.  Fallon will fancy at least a treble from his book of rides today.

Leverage (2.20) should kick things off with a winner. Having won a maiden last time, this is the first time in the handicap from a mark of 80 which looks very fair. There should be plenty more to come and the only negative I can see is the trainer and jockey in the context of getting a decent price, which looks unlikely. In the context of winner there are few stronger combinations. Leverage looks very solid.

Dice (3.50) can follow up for the duo in a small field. This looks an idea opportunity for a horse who has been unlucky to meet a couple of inform rivals of late. Fallon was aboard last time when second to a very well handicapped and highly thought of Sir Michael Stoute inmate. A strong ride should see Dice home for all money today.

Fallon second in the Arc on Sunday

Fallon second in the Arc on Sunday

Sham Sheer (4.50) has much to live up to given his name. Although not coming remotely close to that level he has won his last two stars and can land the hat-trick here from a mark of only 69. His last win, with Fallon aboard, was on the all-weather and he looks to be well treated here back on turf. Fallon has only ridden this horse twice and it is no coincidence that the horse has only ever won twice. The 100 percent record should be maintained today.

As I said the bet today is a multiple, with doubles and trebles on the following three horses, all at Warwick;

Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Monday, 5th October

2.20 Leverage, win

3.50 Dice, win

4.50 Sham sheer, win
