Universal Truth heads totesport.com Cesarewitch market as final field unveiled

Universal Truth heads the market at 13/2 for the totesport.com Cesarewitch with the sponsors after a maximum field of 32 was declared for the second leg of the autumn double.

Dermot Weld’s gelding has been drawn right next to the rail in stall 32 and will be partnered by Leigh Roche whilst Pat Smullen will ride the stable’s other runner Majestic Concorde who is a 12/1 shot with the sponsors.

‘Universal Truth is one we’ve wanted to keep on-side since we started betting on the race and his plum draw could well be enough to see him go off favourite,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Cesarewitch gamble on Red Cadeaux continues

The gamble on Red Cadeaux in the totesport.com Cesarewitch shows no signs of abating and Ed Dunlop’s gelding is now the 8/1 joint-second favourite with the sponsors (from 10/1).

The four-year-old had been as big as 20/1 when betting opened on the 2m2f event but strong support over the past few weeks has seen his odds tumble into single figures. Sentry Duty has also been popular and is now 10/1 (from 11/1).

‘Red Cadeaux was well-backed when finishing second behind Theola in the recent Cesarewitch trial at Newmarket and punters clearly think he can go one better in the main event having proven his ability to stay the trip last time out,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Frankel has hardened at the head of the market for the eagerly-anticipated Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday and Henry Cecil’s colt is now 4/7 (from 8/13). Dream Ahead is next in the market at 3/1 and punters are continuing to back Aidan O’Brien’s Roderic O’Connor who has been trimmed to 20/1 (from 33/1).

Twice Over and Vision d’Etat have been fighting out favouritism for the Emirates Champion Stakes since betting opened on the event but Gitano Hernando has been all the rage with each-way punters this afternoon, forcing totesport to cut him to 9/1 (from 11/1).

Majestic Concorde cut for totesport.com Cesarewitch

Dermot Weld may train the current 7/1 favourite for the totesport.com Cesarewitch in the shape of Universal Truth but punters have been rushing to back his other runner Majestic Concorde this afternoon, forcing the sponsors to cut the dual-purpose performer to 11/1 (from 14/1).

The seven-year-old was last seen on the level when finishing fourth in the totesport.com Chester Cup but has since finished third over the sticks when the heavily-backed favourite of the Galway Plate back in July.

‘Dermot Weld became the first Irish trainer to land the Cesarewitch back in 1992 with the mighty Vintage Crop and punters clearly think he’s got two very strong chances in this year’s renewal,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

There has also been support for Deauville Flyer who has been trimmed to 20/1 (from 25/1) by the sponsors for the 2m2f event.

Royal Ascot winner Zaidan – who had been a 50/1 shot for the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes – will miss the race following the results of a blood test. Frankel remains the 8/13 favourite for the eagerly-anticipated race with Middle Park winner Dream Ahead next in the market at 3/1.

Universal Truth heads 41 left in totesport.com Cesarewitch

A total of 41 horses have been left in the totesport.com Cesarewitch at the latest acceptance stage and Universal Truth heads the market with the sponsors at 7/1.

Dermot Weld’s gelding hasn’t been seen on the level for over a year but has since run twice over hurdles including when breaking his duck in a maiden hurdle at the Galway Festival. The only two notable withdrawals include last year’s winner Darley Sun and Alan King’s Manyriverstocross who had been as short as 12/1 with the sponsors.

‘Universal Truth hasn’t exactly set the world alight in three runs on the level to date but Dermot Weld has already worked the oracle this season with an ex-bumper horse in the shape of Rite Of Passage and there’s no reason why he can’t repeat the dose with the Cesarewitch favourite,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Admiral Barry has been well-backed since picking up a 4lb penalty for his victory at the Curragh last month and is next in the market at 8/1. The money keeps coming for Red Cadeaux as well and Ed Dunlop’s gelding has been cut to 10/1 (from 12/1) by the sponsors.

The most anticipated race of the entire flat season takes place at Newmarket on Saturday where a potential field of 12 could line up for the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

As expected, Saamidd has been supplemented by Godolphin which means racegoers could see three high-class two-year-olds clash on the Rowley Mile but totesport make Frankel the 8/13 favourite after his demolition of the Royal Lodge field at Ascot last time out. Dream Ahead also produced a devastating performance when taking the Middle Park last time out and is next in the market at 3/1 whilst Saamidd is the 9/2 third-favourite.

Barry cut for Cesarewitch following news that Ghimaar misses race

There has been a shake-up in the market for the totesport.com Cesarewitch following the news that Ghimaar will miss the race after he was found to be lame this morning.

Nicky Henderson’s dual-purpose performer had been the 10/1 third-favourite with the sponsors for the 2m2f handicap at Newmarket in just over a week’s time but the jumps handler still intends to saddle 12/1 shot Sentry Duty.

Consequently, Admiral Barry has been trimmed to 8/1 second-favourite (from 9/1) just behind 7/1 jolly Universal Truth whilst Red Cadeaux has been cut to 12/1 (from 14/1).

Theola 14/1 for Cesarewitch after perfect trial

Theola is now 14/1 (from 25/1) for the totesport Cesarewitch with the sponsors following her victory in the Investec Cesarewitch Trial at HQ this afternoon.

Jimmy Quinn, now three-for-three on the filly, held his mount up off the searching gallop set by Arab League before staying on stoutly up the hill to record a convincing two and a quarter length success from Red Cadeaux.

‘Theola has put up an impressive performance over the Cesarewitch course and distance and connections will be hoping for a repeat performance in the Cesarewitch proper in four weeks’ time’ said totesport spokesman Andrew Griffiths.

Fallon on Fair Along in Cesarewitch

Kieren Fallon has once again taken advantage of Jamie Spencer’s absence at Newmarket next Saturday, with trainer Philip Hobbs handing him the ride on Fair Along in the totesport.com Cesarewitch.

With Spencer suspended, his rival already has the mount on Sariska in the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes. Fair Along was third in the same race in 2007 and is very smart over hurdles and fences to boot. He is a 16-1 chance with William Hill.
