Tony McCoy was joined in the parade ring by his John Smith’s Grand National-winning partner Don’t Push It as he was crowned champion jockey for the 15th consecutive year on the final day of the season at Sandown.

Crowds poured into the Esher track to witness the end of the 2009-10 National Hunt campaign – and they were six deep around the paddock for a parade of champions. Don’t Push It, who provided the perennial champion with a first win on Merseyside at the 15th attempt, was shown to the public and joined by four-time William Hill King George VI winner Kauto Star, Ladbrokes World Hurdle hero Big Buck’s and totesport Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander.

Albertas Run was responsible for giving McCoy Grade One wins at both Cheltenham and Aintree, and Jonjo O’Neill’s nine-year-old was also on show. Owner Trevor Hemmings’ racing manager, Mick Meagher, collected Albertas Run’s Order Of Merit cheque for £100,000.

McCoy narrowly failed in his quest for 200 winners this campaign, ending with 195, and his daughter Eve joined him on stage as he collected his trophy from rugby icon Brian Moore.

The 35-year-old, who also appeared on the podium to pick up a special People’s Award, said: “It was most difficult in the run up to Christmas because I had not had an awful lot of luck.

“But the last six weeks have been amazing. It is what every jockey wants and dreams of.

“I’d had a lot of failures in the Grand National so to win it was a dream come true.

“I was in quite good company with the likes of John Francome and Peter Scudamore, who hadn’t won it either, but to do it was something very special.

“The whole emotion from the 70,000 people at Aintree was amazing. People have no idea how much luck you need to win the National and to do it is everything I have dreamed of.”

McCoy also landed the Champion Hurdle on Nicky Henderson’s Binocular, and added: “I could not believe he was beaten in the Champion Hurdle the year before.

“He started this season and was unimpressive but he showed at Cheltenham what I have always believed he could do.”

Paul Nicholls failed to match his record-breaking 155 winners of 12 months earlier but was still crowned champion trainer for the fifth year running with 115 wins and prize money of £2.8million.

Nicholls said: “I’m very lucky to be in this position.

“It has been a fantastic five years but the time has gone very quickly.

“I have been very lucky to have had some great horses and it is great to see them parading today.

“But I think next year will be a battle, Nicky (Henderson) has a lot of good horses and I think next year will be a vintage jumping season.”

Although failing to land the Gold Cup for the fourth year running, Nicholls reported dual winner Kauto Star to be thriving after his uncharacteristic fall in the race.

He added: “Kauto Star is in really good form. He isn’t finished yet and will be back at Kempton on Boxing Day to try and win his fifth King George.”

O’Neill’s wife, Jacqui, collected the champion owners’ prize for JP McManus while Rhys Flint saw off his close friend Nick Scholfield in the battle for the champion conditional’ jockey title.

Its the end of the jumps season and once again Tony McCoy will be crowned Champion Jockey for the 15th time in a row. It is just so routine that he will not get the plaudits he deserves. But fifteen times in a row is simply sensational. McCoy has had a terrific year winning the Champion Hurdle and the Grand National for the first time.

There are plenty of people calling for Tony McCoy to be named BBC Sport Personality of the Year, but in all honesty people put too much stock in the BBC, racing folks know that McCoy is the greatest jump jockey of all time.

Here are your free horseracing tips for Saturday 24 April;

2:30 Sandown, Twist Magic- Win. Back at his favourite venue Twist Magic can show his class and sign off with a win. He is in a different class to this lot and he is hard to oppose here despite having pulled up at Cheltenham and refused to race at Punchestown where he was amongst the favourites for a better race than this. His refusal to race does race an obvious concern and the travelling may have taken something out of him but his record here is exemplary and he’s gone well for Sam Thomas. Great to see Sam Thomas riding for Paul Nicholls again.

<img src="http://serve.williamhill.com/promoLoadDisplay?member=telewin&campaign=DEFAULT&channel=DEFAULT&zone=645136870&lp=890579258" width="468" height="60"border=0/>

3:40 Sandown, Paco Boy- Win. This is a proper quality horse, Paco Boy who took this contest last year and can repeat the feat; I am backing Paco Boy despite the concern that he’s perhaps a better horse over seven furlongs. However, that didn’t stop him in 2009 and it shouldn’t this time around either as he is the best horse in the line-up, goes well fresh and represents a yard firing in winners.

Crowded House to win at Sandown

4:15 Sandown, Crowded House- Win. This has to be the bet of the day. With a rating of 117, you don’t get many that good, he ran in Dubai and infact contested the world’s richest race, The Dubai World Cup. Brian Meehan has his string in good order which will hopefully help our pick reproduce his best form, form that is of a standard that should be too good for these. One-time favourite for The Derby, this colt has ultimately been a bit disappointing since landing the Racing Post Trophy as a juvenile but this looks a good chance to get his career back on track. He looked in form in Dubai. Bet of the Day.

Good Luck.

Tony McCoy finally won the John Smith’s Grand National as Don’t Push It – his 15th ride in the race – provided the champion jockey with a famous win at Aintree.

Black Apalachi was prominent throughout but McCoy was always stalking him on the second circuit. As they jumped the last together, McCoy galvanised his mount to take up the running before the Elbow and the relief the record-breaking rider showed immediately afterwards was immense.

An almighty gamble in the minutes before the four-and-a-half-mile marathon saw the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Don’t Push It sent off the 10-1 joint-favourite along with Big Fella Thanks, with the latter ridden by Barry Geraghty in the absence of the injured Ruby Walsh.

Geraghty was another still going well approaching the second-last, along with 17-year-old Sam Twiston-Davies on Hello Bud.

But Black Apalachi and Don’t Push It pulled clear and it was McCoy who took the plaudits as he won by five lengths.

State Of Play went one better than last year to stay on for third, with Big Fella Thanks fourth and Hello Bud fifth.

Legendary owner-gambler JP McManus had been trying to win the Aintree spectacular for years but his ambition finally came true.

Nina Carberry, attempting to become the first woman to win the race on Character Building, had a great spin round to finish seventh with Snowy Morning sixth to add to his good record in the race.

Last year’s winner Mon Mome still appeared to be going well when he fell at the 26th fence.

A tearful McCoy said: “I’m being a big wuss. It means everything to me to win the Grand National.

“I’ve won lots of big races and I’m supposed to be a good jockey, but to not win the Grand National would be a bit of a negative on the CV.

“I’m delighted for my mum and dad as they’ve been great for me throughout the years, and for my wife Chanelle and my daughter Eve, who is two and a half.

“Hopefully now she’ll be proud of me when she grows up.”

It is getting interesting now. After a week of pretty poor racing we get a good card at Sandown then its off to Cheltenham from Tuesday for the four day Cheltenham Festival.

The festival will be absolutely fantastic. For the first time in my life I will be there for the whole four days, covering the Cheltenham Festival for SunTalk Radio, the Sun’s Radio Station.

The big card at Sandown features the Imperial Cup where any horse that wins and then goes on to win at the Cheltenham Festival picks up a £75k bonus. The Pipe Stable have been good at doing that in recent years but with no runners in the race we need to look elsewhere. Of course we are only interested who wins the Imperial Cup on Saturday.

Your Free Horseracing Tips for Saturday, 13 March

3:05 Sandown, Qaspal- Win. It was touch and go whether Qaspal would get it the race but he did and now has a fantastic chance off such a low weight.  It was interesting what Frank Berry had to say, racing manager for JP McManus;

Live game odds ( Sand, 15:05 2m Hcap Hrd ) by InrunningOdds.com

“Qaspal at the bottom of ours might not get in the Paddy Power Imperial Cup but he is a definite runner if he gets in. He has got a pretty big penalty, but did it nicely at Sandown. We wouldn’t mind if the ground was soft on Saturday and don’t know what he’ll be like on good ground, but he has come out of his last race well and we’re hoping that he will run well.” He could complete a three timer here for the inform stable of Philip Hobbs and at 4/1 he is worth a bet in my book. Tony McCoy takes the ride for his retaining owner.

Tony McCoy rides Qasal

3:40 Sandown, Lifestyle- Win. A listed flat race sits in the mainstream of the Sandown card and will be shown live on channel 4 on Saturday. The four year old has run only once at Ffos Las, winning very well by six lengths and lines up here with a handy weight for age allowance that gives her a huge chance. Nicky Henderson of course is a past master with bumper horses and will be looking for some stable form ahead of the Cheltenham Festival. Lifestyle to win is a solid bet.

4:15 Sandown, Ticho Polos- Win. Paul Nicholls saddles Ticho Polos who was last seen getting beaten by Punchestowns at Sandown. That one now heads to the RSA Chase at Cheltenham whilst this is about the right level for Ruby Walsh’s mount. Ticho Polos should win against inferior opposition, certainly to what he faced last time!

But Hold Your Bets…

Tony McCoy expressed satisfaction with comeback kid Binocular, who came through a Wednesday schooling session with flying colours. The 14-times champion jockey put the JP McManus-owned six-year-old through his paces over 13 flights of hurdles at Nicky Henderson‘s Upper Lambourn base.

Tony McCoy liked what he saw

Although Binocular impressed McCoy, his participation in the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle is unlikely to be revealed until he works on Friday.

“His jumping was as good as it has been all season,” the rider told the Daily Telegraph. He schooled very well, and I was very happy with him, but we won’t know whether he runs until he works.”

Henderson last month ruled Binocular out of the Champion Hurdle – he was third in the race in 2009 – due to a muscle problem, which has since showed signs of improvement.

Tony McCoy

Full Of Joy (2.05) has been running quite well in novice hurdles for other jockeys and has his first run in a handicap. Hopefully, he has a good each-way chance in an open race. Acknowledgement, a well backed winner on his last start, is the one to beat.

Live game odds ( Newb, 14:05 2m Hcap Hrd ) by InrunningOdds.com

Eric’s Charm (2.35) won at Sandown on his most recent run. He is a course specialist, there, but should still run well. Dom d’Orgeval, on his first start for Nick Williams, worries me and Gone To Lunch, a horse I’ve won, is another with a chance.

Live game odds ( Newb, 14:35 3m2f Hcap Chs ) by InrunningOdds.com

I’d have to rate Can’t Buy Time (3.10) as my best hope. He won well at Cheltenham last time and goes well fresh. A nice win will set him up for the National. Although he is dropping back in trip Our Vic is the one to beat.

Live game odds ( Newb, 15:10 2m4f Hcap Chs ) by InrunningOdds.com

Benfleet Boy (3.45) has been a bit in and out and I think he’ll find it tough tos win off top weight. Mark Aurele looks the likely winner to me.

Live game odds ( Newb, 15:45 2m Hcap Hrd ) by InrunningOdds.com

I know they think a bit of Finian’s Rainbow so Arkrose (4.20) has a good chance on his second behind that horse at Ascot. He’s certainly capable of winning. Be There In Five is the biggest danger.

Live game odds ( Newb, 16:20 3m Nov Hrd ) by InrunningOdds.com

Wheels Up (4.55) has been running consistently, but doesn’t win often. However having looked through the race it is a poor contest and if he is ever going to win again it is today. He appears to have a cracking chance.

Live game odds ( Newb, 16:55 2m2f Hcap Chs ) by InrunningOdds.com

Bianco Fuji (5.30) is probably up against it in the bumper, where a whole load of these will be fancied.

Live game odds ( Newb, 17:30 2m NHF ) by InrunningOdds.com

Sunday at Huntingdon Rapid Increase (3.10), Bobble Hat Bob (3.40) and American Cricket (4.10) all have good chances of keeping the ball rolling.

Having thought that Binocular would miss the Champion Hurdle that might not be the case now and we will all know more after I’ve sat on him next week. He didn’t miss any work while he was being checked over and I’ll be as eager as the trainer to see how he goes.

William Hill have reinstalled Nicky Henderson’s Binocular into the Champion Hurdle betting at 10-1 after a clean bill of health was issued by veterinary experts. Nicky Henderson’s-charge has returned to full work at Seven Barrows and could still be a contender for Hurdling’s Blue Riband in eleven days’ time, where he ranks alongside Khyber Kim in the betting. Get all the latest news in the lead up to Cheltenham Festival at our Cheltenham microsite.

All roads lead to the Cheltenham Festival and until the festival starts a week on Tuesday I think no matter what cards we are presented with, the quality is going to be perceived as sub-standard.

It really is getting interesting as news starts to come thick and fast. I am really looking forward to it. I will be there all week with Suntalk Radio, which I am massively looking forward to, in fact I cant wait.

Today the feature card is Newbury with Doncaster a close second, both over jumps. One horse I am really looking forward to is Super Kenny, trained by Nicky Henderson who could be a major player in the Triumph Hurdle. He wants good ground so the soft at Newbury is not ideal.

Todays Free Horseracing Tips;

2:10 Newbury, Super Kenny- Win. Despite less than ideal ground you would want to see Super Kenny win this in some style. He makes his debut over hurdles having decent French Flat form, winning several times over nine furlongs and finishing up with a third-placed finish in an extended 10-furlong Listed event at Le Croise-Laroche. Connections say of his chances on the ground “It’s supposed to be soft, good to soft in places and Nicky feels he will be better on better ground. He has been schooling well and showing a bit at home so we’re looking forward to it.” Lets be honest if he has any chance at Cheltenham he has to bolt up here. I have backed him for the Triumph Hurdle at 25/1.

Zaynar won the Triumph Hurdle in 2009 for Nicky Henderson

The stable won the Triumph Hurdle last year with Zaynar and I have heard some very positive reports about Super Kenny. You may want to back him now for the Triumph Hurdle; Best prices compared below;

Live game odds ( Chelt 19th Mar, Triumph Hrd ) by InrunningOdds.com

Not much else of interest at Newbury, but I will be at Doncaster before zooming off to Newbury for the Greatwood Hurdle meeting on Saturday. I only have one serious bet for Doncaster which is from the inform stable of David Evans.

2:35 Doncaster, Novikov- Win. This is a claiming hurdle, a low quality affair although Novikov is a consistent performer and has the added benefit of AP McCoy in the saddle. Novikov has plenty in hand at the weights and if the layers try to get him beaten then I will be a serious backer. It is dependant on the price but this one is the best bet on the Doncaster card in my view. David Evans continues to impress on the flat, all-weather and over jumps, all the boxes are ticked today in my view.

Advised on Friday at 10/1 Get Me Out Of Here Won at an SP of 6/1

Tony McCoy bounced back from the disappointment of Denman’s shock fall in the Aon Chase as Get Me Out Of Here (6-1) landed the totesport Trophy. Jonjo O’Neill’s charge was travelling supremely well into the straight and came there strongly at the last to challenge Ronaldo Des Mottes. It looked like McCoy’s day might take a further knock as his mount ploughed through the last, but he picked up strongly on the level to win going away by a length and three-quarters.

AP McCoy – won on Get Me Out Of Here.

Manyriverstocross took third, with 11-2 favourite Mamlook fourth.
