Money Behind McCoy Continues

William Hill are reporting strong cash for two recent Tony McCoy bookings, with the firm cutting Fistral Beach from 6-1 into 11-2 favourite for Saturday’s Racing Post Chase, and Starluck from 20-1 into 16-1 for the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham.

McCoy on Qaspal at Cheltenham

McCoy the punters pal

McCoy will be taking over from Ruby Walsh who partnered Fistral Beach in last year’s renewal when the Paul Nicholls-trained gelding departed early in the proceedings.

Alan Fleming surprised some in confirming Starluck for Cheltenham’s Championship two-mile novice chasing event, and the six-year-old, a gallant second to Peddlers Cross in the Fighting Fifth hurdle, is due to make his debut over the bigger obstacles at Huntingdon on Thursday.

Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said ‘Punters are drawn to the McCoy magic like moths to a light bulb, and we’ve seen moves for Fistral Beach and Starluck following the revelation he will be steering the pair in their respective events. Just shows the confidence they have with the Champion Jockey, as the latter hasn’t even jumped a fence in public yet’.

FISTRAL BEACH HEADS RACING POST BETTING AS McCOY IS CONFIRMED FOR KEMPTON

Fistral Beach, currently 5-1 joint-favourite with Coral for Saturday’s Racing Post Chase, has been confirmed as Tony McCoy’s Kempton mount. 2009 winner, Nacarat, is the other market leader, ahead of Bakbenscher and Quinze, both 8-1.

Tony McCoy Booked for Fistral Beach

“Fistral Beach was sent off a warm favourite for last year’s Racing Post Chase, and AP McCoy’s presence in the saddle on Saturday should ensure punters side with Paul Nicholls’ charge once again,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

Elsewhere, Wednesday’s Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse could provide important John Smith’s Grand National clues, with leading contenders Bluesea Cracker, The Midnight Club and Oscar Time all in action.

Lottery launched to help save Racing Welfare charity

Time To Support The Racing lottery in aid of Racing Welfare….Here is an insight………

Powered by Guardian.co.ukThis article titled “Lottery launched to help save Racing Welfare charity” was written by Chris Cook, for The Guardian on Friday 11th February 2011 00.06 UTC

Newbury will be the focus tomorrow, when the course stages Britain’s richest handicap hurdle, the Totesport Trophy, while the support card is littered with horses having their final prep for the Cheltenham Festival. Seventy miles to the north, Warwick will be an appropriately unglamorous venue for the launch of a project aimed at shoring up the funding of Racing Welfare, on whose support many of racing’s lower-income workers rely.

From its Newmarket base, the charity offers help to anyone in need who works or has worked in the racing industry, a constituency which it estimates at 70,000 people. Injured stable staff are retrained for new jobs or helped to cope in the event of lasting disability, while housing is provided for the young, old or injured through 150 properties around the country.

But Racing Welfare now finds itself struggling to keep its head above water, according to its spokesman, Richard Negus. “We are 11% down in income on last year because of the downturn in the economy but we have a 34% upturn in the number of working staff seeking our help,” he says, adding that the charity needs to raise £1.4m each year in order to preserve its existing operations. An annual summer holiday to Spain for disabled former stable staff has already been abandoned.

“We could tell a bit of a sob story and ask for money but that isn’t really enough,” Negus says, “so instead we’re trying to do something that will add a bit of value to the racegoer’s experience of being at the races.” The result is a weekly lottery, offered online at theracinglottery.co.uk as well as at many racecourses. Entrants get the chance to win £1,000, £500 or £250, with a monthly redraw offering a “raceday experience”.

The first monthly prize will be entry for two to the Grand National, with the impressive add-ons of lunch in the Aintree chairman’s box, a guided tour of the course with the trainer David Pipe and the chance to join Richard Hoiles in the commentators’ box for one of the support races. Negus hopes it will be won by a novice racegoer and jokes that it will be “bloody annoying” if it goes to JP McManus or some similarly wealthy owner.

“The average racegoer may say, ‘Why should [we] give a toss about stable lads or lasses, or stalls handlers, when there are other charities dealing with things like cancer or famine.’ But in exchange for their £1, we will add a little bit of extra value to their experience of going racing and they will have the satisfaction of knowing that 80p in every £1 goes to helping the lads and lasses behind the scenes.

“It’s great when Tony McCoy wins Sports Personality of the Year or Nicky Henderson gets his 2,000th winner, but we should also be thinking of Tony’s driver or Nicky’s head-lad. They get forgotten and they’ve got just as interesting stories to tell. We are being called upon now more than at any time in our history. We could run around whingeing and perhaps suggesting a tax on owners, or we can do something practical like this. And what’s the point in kicking the owners when they’re down?”

Negus says the lottery should generate £250,000 a year, plugging the gap in Racing Welfare’s budget. “We ain’t so stupid as to claim that it will change your life, but it could change your weekend and it will help change the lives of the people we look after.”

Free Horseracing Tips, Tuesday 8 Feb

A full complement of cards today sees jumping at Market Rasen and Sedgefield and a flat card on the sand at Southwell. The best of the action is over jumps and the Hitman has all your essential free horseracing tips……

Cheltenham Festival only weeks away

The Cheltenham Festival is only 5 weeks away now, but sadly no Cheltenham clues will be on show today. That said at Market Rasen there are some interesting runners that could pocket us a few quid.

Higgys Ragazzo (1:35) is another from Nicky Henderson Seven Barrow’s hurdlers production line and if reports are right should win this readily. Tony McCoy gets the ride, so punters know they will get 100% from the saddle, no matter whether it is the Cheltenham Festival or a Tuesday at Market Rasen! Higgys Ragazzo was twice a winner on the Flat for Richard Hannon, and should win over hurdles for the best trainer in the business.

Thanks For Coming (2:05) will be a popular choice with punters to complete an opening race double for the Henderson/Tony McCoy combination and he has every chance. With improvement from last time this is a race that connections would hope to win.

Quantitativeeasing (2:35) is NOT one to back but it will be interesting to watch this one. Not an easy ride, McCoy should win hard on the steel but would you take 1-5? Good Luck.

Grand National Betting, 102 Entered for Aintree

Grand National Betting.

A total of 102 entries have been revealed for the John Smith’s Grand National and Aintree’s official betting partner totesport make Ballabriggs the 16/1 favourite following his second win over hurdles at Ayr on Monday.

Grand National Betting

Last year’s winner Don’t Push It is one of eight horses priced up at 20/1 alongside Welsh National winner Synchronised and it is more than likely that one of the two Jonjo O’Neill runners will be partnered by 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year AP McCoy.

“Don’t Push It gave AP McCoy his first Grand National winner last year and punters will be hoping for another Aintree fairytale as Ballabriggs aims to give Donald McCain a chance of emulating his father in training the winner of the big race,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Looking ahead to the weekend and Kempes has been well-backed ahead of a tilt at the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on Sunday and is 7/1 (from 8/1) with totesport. Pride Of Dulcote has been eased at the head of the market to 7/4 (from 13/8) as a result.

Lush Life has been nibbled into 13/2 favouritism (from 7/1) with the sponsors for the totescoop6 Heros Handicap Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday. There has also been money for Mister Hyde and he is 7/1 (from 8/1).

There has also been further support with the sponsors for Nicky Henderson’s Solix in the totesport Trophy and he is now 8/1 (from 10/1) having been as big as 16/1 at the beginning of the week.

Friday’s Horseracing Preview

Doncaster gets the green light for the first day of the two day Sky Bet Chase meeting. There is some good racing this weekend and it all kicks off today. Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary…

Doncaster on Friday

King Benny (1:20) bolted up last time and may still offer some value, despite the seven pounds penalty. He drops back in trip and I think had plenty in the tank, obviously on a good mark. Looks a rock solid each-way proposition at Doncaster.

I am very keen to see Brunston (1:55) from the Henderson yard, who are red hot. I think this could be another off the conveyor belt of novice winners from Seven Barrows and indeed the reports are good! It looks a fair contest and it is interesting that connections come here with surely easier options otherwise available.

Although I don’t think it will win, Straw Bear (1:00) is back over fences with Tony McCoy riding, at Fontwell, which should be fun! The long odds on Definity should win, but watching McCoy ride Straw Bear is interesting. McCoy gave one an amazing ride yesterday, booted home Folie A Deux at Warwick to the delight of some in-running punters who snaffled 999/1. McCoy is the master of his trade!

Good luck today!

Monday Racing Preview

Wetherby gets the go-ahead on Monday, no need for an inspection, so we have three cards including two all-weather meetings at Wolverhampton and Kempton.

There are one or two nice lookig types on show at Wetherby, but in fairness the all-weather is its usual moderate stuff, with little in the way of excitemenet, unless you own a runner of course!

Free Horseracing Tips

Tony McCoy rides at Wetherby

Howard Johnson runs Tigre Daron (12:55) who will go off very short but does have plenty of promise for the future. Too short to back but I would wager that there will be better prizes to come in the future for this horse.

There is an interesting Novice Chase at 2:35 where Tony McCoy makes the long trip to West Yorkshire to ride for Jonjo O’Neil. It looks a match between Alfie Sherrin and Glenwood Knight with little in it, but McCoy is always tough to get by!

One on the all-weather that stands out is Rhal at 2:20 but in fairness at even money I am prepared to let this one win without my money on its back!

Good Luck!

A great video I came accross I thought you might appreciate….

Tony McCoy is BBC Sports Personality Of 2010

Tony McCoy has reflected on his “unbelievable” victory in the race to be crowned the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The 36-year-old became the first jockey to claim the title after securing 293,152 votes, 41% of the overall total of 698,242, on Sunday evening.

McCoy finished ahead of darts star Phil Taylor and heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis to be awarded the famous trophy at the climax of the annual review of the sporting year, which took place at Birmingham’s LG Arena.

Sports Personality: McCoy Bashes Bookies Once Again And Haye Is Favourite For Next Year

AP McCoy has done it again and bashed the bookies for a six figure sum. The biggest bet Hills took on McCoy was for £7000 when he was priced at Even money. By scooping the BBC Sports Personality, McCoy has managed to end the recent curse of the favourite and was priced at 1/4 when he eventually picked up the award at 9 o’clock on Sunday.

“McCoy has made a habit of costing us money over the years, however, we are more than happy to let him off this once as the award was fully deserved. A sustained gamble since he won the Grand National back in April meant that he was the biggest loser in the book this year and once again he delivered for the punters. Congratulations Tony!” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

David Haye is Hill’s 5/1 favourite for the 2011 BBC Sports Personality of the Year while Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton are both priced at 6/1. With the Rugby Union World Cup taking place in New Zealand, Chris Ashton is priced at 33/1 and Lewis Moody is 40/1. Should England secure the Ashes down under Andrew Strauss and Graeme Swann can be backed at 33/1 with Hills.

“There is no major football tournament in the summer of 2011, no Olympics, so it may be time for someone else to step up to the plate. Haye will be fighting one or both of the Klitschko brothers next year and should he end the year with all the World Heavyweight titles he will surely be a shoo-in for the title,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Sports Personality 2011: 5/1 David Haye; 6/1 Andy Murray; 6/1 Lewis Hamilton; 10/1 Lee Westwood; 12/1 Amir Khan; 16/1 Rory McIlroy; 20/1 Paul Casey; 25/1 Graeme McDowell; 25/1 Ian Poulter; 25/1 Justin Rose; 25/1 Wayne Rooney; 25/1 Jenson Button; 33/1 John Terry; 33/1 Frank Lampard; 33/1 Luke Donald; 3/1 James DeGale; 33/1 Jessica Ennis; 33/1 Andrew Strauss; 33/1 Graeme Swann; 33/1 Chris Ashton; 33/1 Mark Cavendish; 33/1 Tony McCoy; 40/1 Lewis Moody; 50/1 Laura Robson; 50/1 Kevin Pietersen; 50/1 Phil Taylor; 50/1 Ronnie O’Sulivan; 50/1 John Higgins; 50/1 Gavin Henson; 50/1 Bradley Wiggins; 50/1 Rebecca Adlington; 66/1 Christine Ohurugu, Ryan Moore, Ruby Walsh, 66/1 Mo Farah; 66/1 Victoria Pendleton; 66/1 Amy Williams; 100/1 Audley Harrison; 100/1 Jonny Wilkinson; 100/1 Paula Radcliffe

Vote Tony McCoy for BBC Sports Personality Of The Year!

TONY McCoy is the odds-on favourite at 4/5 with Ladbrokes to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year. We are supporting Tony McCoy and urge you to vote for him.

McCoy on Qaspal at Cheltenham

McCoy for BBC Sports personality of the yar 2010

The Grand National-winning jockey was confirmed on the short-list of 10 and heads the betting from Ryder Cup stars Graeme McDowell (4/1) and Lee Westwood (7/1). Ladbrokes have launched their “I’m Backing McCoy” campaign with online virals, a shop promotion and free McCoy rosettes all being issued in the build up to the vote on 19 December.

David Williams of Ladbrokes said: “McCoy has cleared the first hurdle with minimum fuss. He still dominates the betting and has real momentum in the big market.

“We’re totally happy to nail our colours to the McCoy mast. He’s cost us a fortune down the years and we hope he does so once again. He did it for the punters and now they must do it for him.”

Ladbrokes – Sports Personality of the Year 2010:

4/5 A P McCoy
4/1 Graeme McDowell
7/1 Lee Westwood
14/1 Jessica Ennis
14/1 Phil Taylor
16/1 Amy Williams
20/1 Tom Daley
25/1 Graeme Swann

Denman Can Land a Third Hennessy on Super Saturday at Newbury

Free Horseracing Tips

By Carl Harris

The Hitman cleaned up last Saturday and he is back to mark your card for the big meeting at Newbury on Saturday, Carl Harris says get on Denman for Hennessy Gold Cup glory….

Denman has dominated the Hennessy Gold Cup (3:05 Newbury) with jaw dropping performances that have even reduced his trainer to tiers. I firmly believe he will do it again on Saturday and I have taken the early prices, Denman is most definately the best bet of the day.

Were it not for health problems Denman could have dominated the game, but despite his heart problems there is no doubting his bravery, I absolutely love Denman but sentiment aside, I think his class will show. Paul Nicholls has said he has never been happier with Denman, that will do for me. Get on Denman, with Gold Cup winning jockey Sam Thomas in the plate. Take the early price about Denman.

Cheltenham Gold Cup 2010

Denman won in 2008 and 2009

The Fighting Fifth as been moved from Newcastle to Newbury and now goes off at 12:25 and Champion Hurdler, Binocular makes his reappearance in a race he should win, at odds-on there is no value but a nice double with Denman may be a good investment. He has some decent opponents but lets be honest he should have a stone in hand and win on the steel.

McCoy should complete a double with Big Buck’s (2:30 Newbury) who is quite simply a star and should literally win in a canter here. Another short price but this will give you a nice Brucie Bonus on your winnings, he is an absolute good thing.  Absolute certainty!

Last week there was plenty of value with Stagecoach pearl winning at 7/2, today with all the abandonments choice is a bit thin on the ground, so Denman is my cornerstone today. I do like Corner Stone at Newbury in the last (3:40) who can land a hat-trick and I think is well handicaped over fences. Definately worth a bet I think.

Worth a watch, Denman winning the Hennessy Gold Cup last Year…..
