Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has moved to draw a line under the transfer drama that surrounded Charlie Adam on Deadline day. Holloway is always good fun to listen to….

Blackpool’s Charlie Adam apprently determined to quit the club, William Hill are betting on where he will be playing his football on the first day of next season, and make Liverpool the 11/10 favourites. ‘It appears very unlikely that Charlie Adam will remain a Blackpool player once this season is over and Liverpool appear to be the leading contenders for his signature’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Gareth Bale 3/1 To Head For Milan

Gareth Bale Favourite for PFA award and could the Spurs star be heading to Milan?

WILLIAM HILL are offering odds of 3/1 that Gareth Bale will be an Inter Milan player by the first day of the next Premier League season, following stories that the Italians are preparing a massive bid for the Spurs’ star.

Gareth Bale To Milan?

Hills make him an Even money shot still to be a Spurs’ player on that date, and 13/8 to be somewhere other than Spurs or Inter.

‘Stories like this are inevitable given Bale’s outstanding form this season, but a lot will depend on where Spurs end up this season’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

BALE has been installed as 9/4 favourite with Hills to win the PFA Player of the Year Award – they also offer

9/4 Bale
3 Nasri
9/2 Berbatov
6 Van Der Vaart
7 Tevez
10 Vidic
12 Nani
12 Fabregas
12 Drogba

Olympic Stadium, West Ham Now Favourites

WEST HAM are now more likely than Spurs to win the bid for the Olympic Stadium according to Ladbrokes. Chairman of the 2012 London Olympics Lord Coe has bitterly told of his anger at Tottenham’s plans to occupy the Olympic Stadium in east London following the Games.

West Ham or Spurs?

West Ham move to 9/4 (from 4/1) to be the permanent users of the stadium after the Olympics with Tottenham drifting to 5/2 from 15/8. West Ham’s commitment to maintain the running track appears to be the key to the decision however it remains even money that neither side wins the bid.

This leaves the only other option as a ground share between the two clubs which is an unlikely 33/1 chance.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said:” West Ham have dealt the ace up their sleeve by pledging to keep the running track and punters now feel that it’s enough for them to beat Spurs in the race to use the ground.”

Who will win the bid to take over the Olympic Stadium?

West Ham – 9/4 (from 4/1)

Wayne Rooney has accused Manchester United of lacking ambition. Twenty four hours after Sir Alex Ferguson’s devastating attack on his star striker, Rooney entered the fray. Tuesday’s Champions League Betting Preview, 14 September

The Champions League takes centre stage this evening with the big game being the so-called ‘Battle of Britain’ between Manchester United and Rangers at Old Trafford. Spurs are also in action at Werner Bremen.

Wayne Rooney is set to return for Manchester United having been left out of the squad for Saturday’s visit to Everton, where United threw away a 3-1 advantage in injury time. Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly left out his star striker to protect him from abuse and ridicule, following recent tabloid revelations about his private life. There will of course be a Rangers contingent present this evening but Rooney will face overwhelming support from the Old Trafford faithful. United will also welcome back Rio Ferdinand, the England captain, who could be given the armband on a regular basis at Old Trafford. Ferguson has hinted that he may make Ferdinand the club captain with the armband having been passed between Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and most recently Ferdinand’s fellow centre Nemanja Vidic.

Michael Carrick is definitely out for United with an Achilles injury. Rangers will await the outcome of a late fitness test on defender Kirk Broadfoot who returned from international duty with an ankle injury. Steven Whitaker has been declared fit following his minor injury sustained when playing for Scotland last week. Other than Jelavic, who is not eligible to play in the Champions League Rangers have no other injury concerns.

They do have plenty of concerns though regarding how they are going to win this game. Manchester United should be far too strong for Rangers, but Sir Alex Ferguson is not prepared to under estimate the club with which he has such a close affinity. That said there is such are difference in class between the Premier League and the SPL that only an ardent Rangers fan can give the Glasgow side any chance here on Tuesday evening.

Rangers scrambled a late win over Hamilton in the league over the weekend, hardly the stuff of European champions. Man for man Manchester United totally outclass Rangers and I expect a passionate and exciting game but ultimately one in which United come out on top. Manchester United are bankers for me this evening.

Live odds…

Spurs on the other hand face a very difficult task in their first appearance in Europe’s premier club competition. It is never easy when an English team travels to Germany. Werder Bremen are a decent team and this is a very competitive game that represents genuine value for Spurs backers, but I would rather be a layer, then a backer, of Harry Redknapp’s side.

Spurs have made a stuttering start to their Premier League campaign and indeed had to overcome a first leg deficit in qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League. By laying Spurs you have both a home win and a draw onside.

Harry Redknapp knows just how tough the task is facing Spurs…

Influential midfielder Luka Modric is rated as extremely doubtful for the Group A opener on Tuesday evening having gone off with injury during Saturday’s Premier league game at West Brom. Club captain Ledley King though is set to return after being arrested over the weekend and goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini keeps his place in goal deputising for the injured first choice stopper. The Spurs cause is not helped by the absence of Jermaine Defoe and Michael Dawson as well as long-term casualties Jamie O’Hara and Jonathan Woodgate. On balance laying Spurs looks solid proposition and for those of you wanting to back the result my forecast would be a draw, but I would not be surprised in the slightest to see the German side win which is why I am advising laying Spurs.

Sundays Football Betting Tips, 22 November

Super Sunday, well not quite, in fact not at all with three Premier League matches that are as unspectacular as it is possible to be!

Stoke are value to beat Portsmouth

Stoke are value to beat Portsmouth

Below are todays football betting fixtures with best odds;

  • 13:30 Bolton (13/10) Draw (12/5) Blackburn (5/2) (Sky Sports)
  • 15:00 Tottenham (1/2) Draw (7/2) Wigan (15/2)
  • 16:00 Stoke (15/13) Draw (12/5) Portsmouth (11/4) (Sky Sports)

There are two live games on Sky Sports, but it would take a die-hard fan to sit through three hours of Bolton v Blackburn and Stoke v Portsmouth. My thinking is have a bet then do something else! I advise not getting involed in the North West Derby at the Reebok but really fancy a double on Spurs and Stoke to win.

Spurs look rock solid which is reflected in the  price whilst Stoke will have targetted todays game against basement boys Pompey and should win this. So a double is the best bet of the day!

Harry Redknapp to Quit Spurs?

RUMOURS sweeping the football world that Harry Redknapp is about to quit his job as Spurs ‘  boss have seen the odds about him being the first Premiership boss to lose his job this season slashed from 40/1 to 5/1by William Hill.

‘It is probably a bandwagon effect as ususal, based on unsubstantiated gossip, but in volatile markets of this nature you can’t afford to take a chance and we are being inundated with calls from punters wanting to bet that Harry will be the first to go’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills make Paul Hart 11/10 to be the first out, with Phil Brown at 5/4 and Redknapp 5/1 third favourite.

Premier League Football Betting Tips, 12-13th September

By Barry Robson

By Barry Robson

After a break for the internationals it’s back to Premier League action this weekend. It promises to be an exciting one and our man has cast his eye over the teams. Barry Robson is back with his football betting tips for Saturday and Sunday. Barry is looking at four draws, half the pools done for you is he Derren Brown?  We will see….

Birmingham v Aston Villa (Sunday)

Franck Queudrue has admitted that Sunday’s Midlands derby is Birmingham’s biggest game of the season. Alex McLeish’s side missed out on a match against Aston Villa last term as they were battling to win promotion from the Championship.

But the two teams will lock horns at St Andrews on Sunday and ex Boro and Fulham player Queudrue is predicting a very competitive clash. The French defender does not want anything to get out of control but feels referee Howard Webb may find it difficult to keep everyone on the pitch. Queudrue told the Birmingham Mail;

“We all know exactly how the fans feel about this, they are on at us all the time about beating Villa, and it is certainly our biggest game of the season. You can talk about Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool coming to St Andrews but no, this game is more important. The fans have passion for it, and as players you must have that passion too, and we have. It’s about who wins the duels, the single battles, without being silly of course, in a good way. That’s who will get the game. But the referee is going to have a tough job, he could have a problem keeping 11 on the pitch from us and them!”

Queudrue had to watch from the sidelines as Blues lost 5-1 to Aston Villa in April 2008 but he is confident there will be a different outcome on this occasion.

Result : Score Draw  Man To Watch : Ashley Young on his return from injury  FirstGoal Scorer : Emile Heskey

Best Odds: Birmingham 12/5, Draw 9/4 (Boylesports), Villa 13/10

Wigan v West Ham

Alessandro Diamanti is looking forward to making his West Ham debut after joining from Livorno. The Italian striker did not complete his transfer in time to be available for the goalless draw with Blackburn on 29th August and has been settling into his new surroundings for the past fortnight during the international break. He scored two stunning free-kicks in a reserve match at Upton Park on Tuesday and hopes he can keep his form going. Diamanti told the club’s official website.

“To play here was an excellent feeling. I was very excited and couldn’t wait to show my qualities, the team did well and played a good game, which I’m very happy about.”

Diamanti admits he has been an admirer of English football for some time and he is relishing the prospect of playing with and against some of the best players on the planet.

“I came to England because the Premier League is the most beautiful championship in the world and I cannot wait to start the season with the first team, I am very excited about that and want to have this challenge.”

Result : Score Draw  Man To Watch : Alessandro Diamanti on debut for Hammers  First Scorer : Allesandro Diamanti

Best Odds: Wigan 13/10, Draw 23/10 (Ladbrokes), West Ham 9/4

Blackburn v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce feels a weekend meeting with Wolves has become a must-win contest for his side. The Ewood Park outfit have made a slow start to the 2009/10 campaign, taking just one point from their opening three fixtures.

They have also struggled in front of goal, with only a Gael Givet effort in a 2-1 defeat at Sunderland to show for their efforts so far. While results have been poor, Allardyce still feels that his side have displayed enough potential to suggest they can pull clear of a relegation scrap this term.

The experienced coach does, however, accept that points on the board are vital at this stage of the season and has called on his players to grind out a result against Wolves on Saturday. Allardyce said

“It’s more important than anything else now, we’ve had performances with no results, apart from the draw against West Ham. What we must do is get the performance with the result, and that needs to be the win – and if we can’t get the performance, just win, get three points on the board, which will settle us all down. It’s going into game four for us and we’ve been excited about what we’ve done and how much we have created in those games. But at the end of the day, the bottom line is that out of all the chances we have created, out of all opportunities to score goals, we’ve only scored one. There have been one or two cruel blows in terms of wrong refereeing decisions at certain times during the games and that has played its part as well, but the big part is about us needing to improve on our finishing for Saturday.”

Result : Score Draw  Man To Watch : Gamst Pedersen  First Scorer: Beni McCarthy

Best odds: Blackburn 11/8, Draw 5/2 (Bet365), Wolves 4/1

Spurs host the Champions

Tottenham v Manchester United (5.15pm)

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is delighted with his summer transfer dealings, believing the squad is now in a stronger state. The Spurs boss brought in six players in the window, while letting seven leave White Hart Lane. But he believes his squad is now in a better position to deal with the challenges ahead as his unbeaten side prepare to face Manchester United on Saturday in the first game after the international break. Redknapp told the club’s official website:

“I never felt that we needed to make a lot of changes this summer because we already had a lot of quality within our squad. Sometimes I think that you can have too many players and it does nothing but give you problems. The squad is stronger, I think we have bought well and it is a well-balanced squad now in all parts of the field.”

Meanwhile, Spurs are hopeful that one of their summer signings Sebastien Bassong will be fit for Saturday’s clash, while fellow centre-back Ledley King is also confident of playing after recovering from a groin injury he suffered during the last-gasp win over Birmingham.

Lets face it, Spurs are mediocre at best, Liverpool are a top four club with title aspirations. We will more likely see aliens and peace on Earth before Spurs winning the Premier League this season. In all seriousness they should do better this season, but come on, Liverpool are in a different league. OK not literally but there is a top level Premier League and the rest with Liverpool being in that elite group and Spurs are fully paid up members of the average to moderate mid-table club group. Liverpool are good value at 7/5.

Liverpool should knock in some goals at Spurs on Sunday

Liverpool should knock in some goals at Spurs on Sunday

Team news…

Spurs field new boy Peter Crouch, who scored 22 goals in 85 Premier League games for Liverpool. Sebastien Bassong, signed from relegated Newcastle in the summer, was expected to miss this game through suspension, and Jonathan Woodgate is out with a groin strain, while Ledley King (back) and fellow defender Michael Dawson (Achilles) undergo tests ahead of the Sunday visit.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez will monitor Steven Gerrard’s fitness ahead of the match after Gerrard sat out England’s draw against Holland in midweek after suffering a groin injury. Central defenders Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel could both be available after ankle and hamstring problems respectively while Daniel Agger, Fabio Aurelio and new signing Alberto Aquilani are sidelined through injury. Liverpool are also boosted by the news that Fernando Torres has signed a new improved contract keeping at the club until 2013.

Tottenham (Probable, 4-4-2): Gomes; Corluka, Bassong, King, Assou-Ekotto; Palacios, Jenas, Modric, Lennon; Crouch, Defoe
Liverpool (Probable, 4-4-1-1): Reina; Insua, Agger, Carragher, Johnson; Riera, Lucas, Mascherano, Kuyt; Gerrard; Torres
Referee: Phil Dowd

It is usually worth listening to what the managers say before a big game, but to be honest Rafa Benitez may be a good manager, but he is (or may be portrayed as, if you are a Liverpool fan) a complete idiot when it comes to talking to the press. He spouts utter nonesense that is not worth considering for betting purposes.

The form: Liverpool scored 36 away goals last season – only Arsenal scored more on their travels – but they face a Spurs side that conceded only 10 goals at home, an all-time club record.

Last season: Tottenham 2, Liverpool 1; Liverpool 3, Tottenham 1
