Spain World Cup Win Costs Stan James Dear

Leading telephone and internet bookmakers Stan James were this morning counting the cost of refunding all losing stakes (to a maximum of £250) on the outright market placed prior to the World Cup as a free bet if pre-tournament favourites Spain obliged.

Head of PR Charlie McCann: “The final was a double whammy in that we paid back all losing bets on the goalscorer markets given the game went into extra time but all our punters who backed a nation other than Spain pre-tournament will have their stake back in their account this morning. Stan James were left ruing their Spain World Cup offer when Carlos Puyol headed the European champions into Sunday’s World Cup Final. Remember our pre-tournament concession that we will refund all losing stakes on bets placed prior to the start of the tournament on the outright market as a free bet if Spain win their first World Cup.

With Holland a loser in the book and money back if Spain win, Sunday could easily produce the most unwanted hat-trick in bookmaking history given we also refunded losing stakes recently when England won the T20 World Cup and when Rafael Nadal won the French Open without dropping a set.

Germany v Spain World Cup Betting Preview

Wednesday sees the second World Cup Semi-Final, as Germany face Spain for a place in the World Cup Final. Germany have an amazing World Cup record, but Spain have never won it. This is the biggest match in the history of Spanish Football. Despite being favourites I think Germany will prevail here and go on to win the World Cup.

Miroslav Klose, at 32, is the oldest player for the youngest German side in the World Cup since 1934.

Germany’s World Cup harmony may have been disrupted after skipper Philipp Lahm said he had no intention of willingly giving up the captain’s armband when Michael Ballack returns to fitness. Read more in the Telegraph

It has been a bit-part show for Cesc Fàbregas in this World Cup, but the Spanish midfielder is challenging striker Fernando Torres for a starting place in Wednesday’s semi-final against Germany, the team he calls the “strongest in the tournament”. For Germany though Bastian Schweinsteiger is the man who is the key to success. Despite being second favourites I am of the firm view that Germany will win and advise a decent bet on them to do so.

A great weekend of Football Betting, but has it been a classic World Cup? Who will contest the final and who will win the World Cup? Plus more news on what went wrong for England in the latest World Cup Betting Podcast.

So Uruguay play Holland and Germany play Spain in the World Cup Semi-Finals. Spain are favourites to win the World Cup, but we think that Germany are the value here. Listen to the thoughts of the team on our Podcast. Liam thinks Uruguay are value to win the World Cup and the 6/1 to beat Holland is good value, but its Germany for me to win the World Cup.

There is no doubt that Germany have been the surprise package at the World Cup but they will surely not find the Spanish defence as benovolent as the English or Argentinian were in Durban on Wednesday evening. Spain are just favourites at 8/5 with Germany 9/5 and the draw 11/5 with Stan James.

Indeed Stan James are betting 12/1 that the Germans score 4 or more goals in the semi-final (90 mins). Spain are the 15/8 favourites to add the World Title to their European success of 2008 when they easily disposed of a German side in transition. Fernando Torres scored the only goal of the game in Vienna two years ago and Spain were much superior on that occasion. Torres has struggled throughout the World Cup and he is likely to be on the bench on Wednesday with Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas or Athletico Bilboa’s Fernando Llorente introduced to the starting line-up.

Spain are 4/5 to qualify with Germany Even money and that is surely based on reputation rather than what we have witnessed so far in South Africa. It is of course possible that Germany’s attacking style will play into the hands of the Spanish who have been forced to try to break down their defensive-minded opponents in each of their five games in this World Cup to date. Spain will be bidding to become the first nation to win the World Cup having lost their first game in the competition. We haven’t seen the best of La Roja at this tournament although they have done just enough to reach the last four. David Villa is 4/9 to win the Golden Boot and StanJames.com are betting 9/4 that Spain lift the Trophy on Sunday night with Villa top scorer.

Holland are 2/1 with StanJames.com to win Sunday’s World Cup and they ought to have too much for a resilient Uruguay in Cape Town on Tuesday. Uruguay have performed wonders when you consider they are a nation of less than 3 million in reaching the semi-finals and few would have thought they would be the last standing South American country when they drew their first game with France 0-0 last month. Diego Forlan has been a revelation and he is 7/1 to score Tuesday’s opening goal but the Oranje are firm favourites at 4/6 to win in 90 minutes.

Spain Through To Quarter Finals, World Cup Betting Update

David Villa‘s fourth goal of the tournament was enough to give Spain a 1-0 victory over near neighbours Portugal in their last-16 World Cup clash in Cape Town.
