Spain World Cup Win Costs Stan James Dear

Leading telephone and internet bookmakers Stan James were this morning counting the cost of refunding all losing stakes (to a maximum of £250) on the outright market placed prior to the World Cup as a free bet if pre-tournament favourites Spain obliged.

Head of PR Charlie McCann: “The final was a double whammy in that we paid back all losing bets on the goalscorer markets given the game went into extra time but all our punters who backed a nation other than Spain pre-tournament will have their stake back in their account this morning. We won’t know just how much it has cost us until the refund has been reinvested on this week’s Open Championship perhaps or indeed the forthcoming StanJames.com World Matchplay darts which begins in Blackpool on Saturday. We bet 20/1 that England land the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and even at that price don’t envisage many of our customers reinvesting on the Three Lions.”

Its the World Cup Final, and the third place play off this weekend. The big one is Spain v Holland with a English Referee, Howard Webb. We look at the World Cup Betting opportunities. This is the World Cup Betting Podcast for the World Cup Final….

Spain and Holland go head to head, Spain have conceded only two goals so far in the tournament and Holland have set a record of 14 straight World Cup Wins in 90 minutes.

Howard Webb is the referee, he is 7/2 to issue a card and 33/1 to send off Van Bommell which must be worth a few quid. On Saturday we have the third place play-off…
19:30 Uruguay (4) Draw (14/5) Germany (4/5)
Always a high scoring fixture, I fancy Germany as does Octopus Paul….

The World Cup Final…

19:30 Netherlands (11/4) Draw (12/5) Spain (6/5)

Holland offer genuine value here, but Spain will be tough to score against, only 2 goals conceded is an amazing record. For me though its Spain, but do all the boys agree? Listen to the World Cup Betting Podcast.

Some World Cup Bets….
WITH PUNTERS APPARENTLY reluctant to back Spain to beat the Dutch in the World Cup Final, William Hill are to lengthen their 90 minutes odds to an industry-leading 6/5 for online and telephone clients from 7a.m on Friday morning. ‘Despite already taking bets of £10,000, £25,000 and £50,000 for Spain to win the World Cup, we cannot now seem to persuade punters to back Spain to beat the Dutch in 90 minutes, so, as they are a seven figure winner for us we are trying to tempt punters to support them – hopefully Paul the Octopus will tip them to help us out!’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

A William Hill Manchester betting shop client stands to collect £424,000 if David Villa, now 8/11 favourite to do so, ends up as tournament top scorer after placing a £30,000 double on Holland to win their Group at 4/7, with Villa at 8/1.

Another Hill’s shop punter in Essex placed a £250 treble on Rafa Nadal and Serena Williams to win their respective Wimbledon singles tournaments, running on to Holland – and will collect £30,000 if the Dutch oblige.

‘It has been a good World Cup for bookies thus far, with 52% favs winning , 27% draws and 21% underdogs, which doesn’t sound that great, except that the high turnover matches have tended to go our way – not least the England matches, and the Germany-Spain semi in which there were bets of 500,000 and 75,000 euros on a German win’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

WILLIAM HILL now make Spain 4/7 favourites to win the World Cup, with Holland offered at 6/4.
Hills make Spain 6/5 to win in 90m with Holland 13/5 and the draw 11/5. (PRICES AVAILABLE FROM 7A.M.)

Hills offer 9/2 that the Final will go to a penalty shoot-out; Holland are 10/1 to win by that method, with Spain also quoted at 10/1. Holland are 11/1 to win in extra time, with Spain 9/1 to do likewise.

DAVID VILLA is 8/11 to end up as World Cup top scorer with Hills who also offer 5/2 Sneijder; 4 Klose; 14 Muller; 16 Forlan; 100 Suarez.

VAN BOMMEL FOR BOOKING?
WILLIAM HILL have cut their price for Van Bommel to be booked during the Final (90m play) from 9/4 to 13/8 after taking a string of bets of up to £600 a time on the tough tackling Dutchman to fall foul of the referee.

REPEAT FOR PUYOL?
AFTER Carles Puyol headed Spain to victory against Germany, William Hill offer 25/1 that he will score again from a header during 90m play of the Final.

FERNANDO PENALTY?
WILLIAM HILL offer 12/1 that Torres will win a penalty.(90m play)
ARJEN ROBBEN is 13/2 with Hills to score from outside the box.(90m play)

Football Betting Tips

Football - Spain World Cup Final

Stan James were left ruing their Spain World Cup offer when Carlos Puyol headed the European champions into Sunday’s World Cup Final. Remember our pre-tournament concession that we will refund all losing stakes on bets placed prior to the start of the tournament on the outright market as a free bet if Spain win their first World Cup.

With Holland a loser in the book and money back if Spain win, Sunday could easily produce the most unwanted hat-trick in bookmaking history given we also refunded losing stakes recently when England won the T20 World Cup and when Rafael Nadal won the French Open without dropping a set.

Spain are 4/7 to lift the trophy and 11/10 to beat the Dutch in 90 minutes after their best performance of the competition in easily disposing of a German team who didn’t go out with a wimper in Durban but certainly not with a bang either. There was not a single yellow card in the whole 90 minutes last night which might be a record and I’m sure the combative Dutch midfield duo of Mark van Bommell and Nigel De Jong will not allow Xavi, Xabi Alonso and Iniesta such freedom in Soccer City. There is no decision at the time of writing on who will be in charge of the Final on Sunday but Howard Webb or whoever gets the nod will surely be busier than Wednesday’s Hungarian official Viktor Kassai.

Holland have won all six games in South Africa and have been very well backed both pre and during the tournament, but not all their key players have hit their top form with Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie especially due a big game. The Oranje have finished runner up in 2 previous World Cup Finals losing 2-1 to Germany in 74 and 2-1 to Argentina in 78. A hat-trick of 2-1 defeats is priced at 8/1.

World Cup Final; Holland v Spain. World Cup Betting Update.

Spain will play Holland in the World Cup final on Sunday after knocking out Germany. A Carles Puyol goal sent the favourites through against Germany in a match in which Spain dominated possession. World Cup Betting Update.

It will be the first time the reigning European champions have played in a World Cup final. Holland, twice runners-up, reached the final by beating Uruguay 3-2 in Cape Town on Tuesday. It means there will be a new name on the trophy for the first time since France claimed victory in Paris in 1998. Read More at Sky News

Paul, an octopus in a German zoo who predicts the national side’s football results, maintained his 100 per cent accuracy rate at this World Cup by foreseeing the team’s downfall at the hands of Spain. The animal has become the most unusual celebrity at this year’s tournament after correctly indicating whether Germany would win or lose each of their six games during the tournament. A WILLIAM HILL telephone betting customer who staked a record 500,000 euros on Germany to beat Spain has lost his wager – the largest World Cup bet ever. ‘Not only did the 500,000 euro bet lose, but so did the 100,000 and 80,000 euro bets on Germany to win the tournament, and another 75,000 euro wager on them to get past Spain’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe, ‘Even though we have clients with £25,000 and £10,000 on Spain to win the World Cup we will be going into the Final celebrating the fact that Germany aren’t there. Germany losing that game made a difference of around £5million to us – it was almost certainly our best World Cup result ever. Now we’d like the Dutch to round off a fantastic tournament for us by beating Spain’ .

Germany v Spain World Cup Betting Preview

Wednesday sees the second World Cup Semi-Final, as Germany face Spain for a place in the World Cup Final. Germany have an amazing World Cup record, but Spain have never won it. This is the biggest match in the history of Spanish Football. Despite being favourites I think Germany will prevail here and go on to win the World Cup.

Miroslav Klose, at 32, is the oldest player for the youngest German side in the World Cup since 1934.

Germany’s World Cup harmony may have been disrupted after skipper Philipp Lahm said he had no intention of willingly giving up the captain’s armband when Michael Ballack returns to fitness. Read more in the Telegraph

It has been a bit-part show for Cesc Fàbregas in this World Cup, but the Spanish midfielder is challenging striker Fernando Torres for a starting place in Wednesday’s semi-final against Germany, the team he calls the “strongest in the tournament”. For Germany though Bastian Schweinsteiger is the man who is the key to success. Despite being second favourites I am of the firm view that Germany will win and advise a decent bet on them to do so.

Germany have scored 13 goals from 28 shots on target. That is a clinical strike rate of 46%, suggesting that if there are few chances, Germany are the team to capitalise. They are free scoring having scored four goals three times in this World Cup.

Stan James will refund losing stakes on all goalscorer markets (first/last/anytime/hat-trick/scorecast) if Miroslav Klose scores at anytime during the 90 minutes on on Wednesday evening. This has to be worth considering given that he is scoring for fun. Klose’s second-half brace helped complete a staggering 4-0 quarter-final win over Argentina in Cape Town, giving the 32-year-old four goals in South Africa and drawing him level with compatriot Gerd Müller on 14 at World Cups. He only needs one goal to break the record. You can bet with Stan James if he will do so;

I would suggest that Klose is a great bet, 11-4 to score one goal in this match or the final, should Germany get there. Well I think they will. I am a bick backer here of Germany to qualify at Evens. I also like the 15/8 to win in 90 minutes, but will have a big bet at Evens on Germany to qualify. Even if it was extra-time or penalties I favour the Germans.

I think that the Germans will win the World Cup.

Daily World Cup Betting Podcasts, from Racing Diary

A great weekend of Football Betting, but has it been a classic World Cup? Who will contest the final and who will win the World Cup? Plus more news on what went wrong for England in the latest World Cup Betting Podcast.

So Uruguay play Holland and Germany play Spain in the World Cup Semi-Finals. Spain are favourites to win the World Cup, but we think that Germany are the value here. Listen to the thoughts of the team on our Podcast. Liam thinks Uruguay are value to win the World Cup and the 6/1 to beat Holland is good value, but its Germany for me to win the World Cup.

There is no doubt that Germany have been the surprise package at the World Cup but they will surely not find the Spanish defence as benovolent as the English or Argentinian were in Durban on Wednesday evening. Spain are just favourites at 8/5 with Germany 9/5 and the draw 11/5 with Stan James.

Indeed Stan James are betting 12/1 that the Germans score 4 or more goals in the semi-final (90 mins). Spain are the 15/8 favourites to add the World Title to their European success of 2008 when they easily disposed of a German side in transition. Fernando Torres scored the only goal of the game in Vienna two years ago and Spain were much superior on that occasion. Torres has struggled throughout the World Cup and he is likely to be on the bench on Wednesday with Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas or Athletico Bilboa’s Fernando Llorente introduced to the starting line-up.

Spain are 4/5 to qualify with Germany Even money and that is surely based on reputation rather than what we have witnessed so far in South Africa. It is of course possible that Germany’s attacking style will play into the hands of the Spanish who have been forced to try to break down their defensive-minded opponents in each of their five games in this World Cup to date. Spain will be bidding to become the first nation to win the World Cup having lost their first game in the competition. We haven’t seen the best of La Roja at this tournament although they have done just enough to reach the last four. David Villa is 4/9 to win the Golden Boot and StanJames.com are betting 9/4 that Spain lift the Trophy on Sunday night with Villa top scorer.

Holland are 2/1 with StanJames.com to win Sunday’s World Cup and they ought to have too much for a resilient Uruguay in Cape Town on Tuesday. Uruguay have performed wonders when you consider they are a nation of less than 3 million in reaching the semi-finals and few would have thought they would be the last standing South American country when they drew their first game with France 0-0 last month. Diego Forlan has been a revelation and he is 7/1 to score Tuesday’s opening goal but the Oranje are firm favourites at 4/6 to win in 90 minutes.

Stan James will refund all losing stakes on all goalscorer markets (first/last/anytime/hat-trick/scorecast) if Diego Forlan scores anytime during the 90 minutes on Tuesday and exactly the same with Miroslav Klose on Wednesday evening.

Spain New World Cup Favourites, World Cup Betting Update

David Villa became the World Cup‘s leading sccorer with a late winner to give a below-par Spain an historic 1-0 victory over Paraguay. The 28-year-old struck his fifth goal of the tournament to send the perennial underachievers to their first-ever World Cup semi-finals. World Cup Betting Update;

HAVING been displaced at different times by Brazil, Argentina, Holland and Germany, Euro champions Spain have regained favouritism for the World Cup with William Hill, who quote them at 15/8 to lift the trophy.

Hills make Holland 2/1 joint second favourites with Germany, and make Uruguay the 12/1 outsiders.’Punters have deserted Spain in the outright market recently and they are currently a very good winner for us, whereas a Germany victory would prove costly’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Spain Through To Quarter Finals, World Cup Betting Update

David Villa‘s fourth goal of the tournament was enough to give Spain a 1-0 victory over near neighbours Portugal in their last-16 World Cup clash in Cape Town.

Villa finally managed to beat Portugal’s impressive goalkeeper Eduardo after his initial shot had been saved to guide the European champions through.

World Cup Betting

Spain Through to World Cup last Eight

SPAIN are now quoted as 11/4 second favourites to win the World Cup by William Hill after defeating bitter rivals Portugal. They are now 2/9 to eliminate Paraguay who are 3/1 to knock Spain out. ‘We feared Spain pre-tournament when they became favourites but they had flattered a little to deceive only now to become major contenders again’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills make Brazil 5/2 favourites and also offer 9/2 Argentina; 13/2 Germany; 7 Holland; 16 Uruguay; 40 Ghana; 50 Paraguay.

David Villa is 7/4 favourite to be the tournament’s top scorer with Hills who also offer 5/2 Higuain; 4 Fabiano; 14 Suarez; 20 Van Persie; Muller; 25 Forlan; Tevez.

Ravshan Irmatov – 10/1
Massimo Busacca – 12/1

Spain Back On Track, World Cup Betting Update

Spain 2-0 Honduras: A wonder goal from David Villa kick-started Spain’s World Cup campaign as they cruised to victory over Honduras in Johannesburg. They failed to convert many more chances, the only worry for Spain. We look at their World Cup Betting prospects.

Hills then offer 8/1 Holland; 9/1 Germany; 10/1 England; 20/1 Italy and Portugal; 33/1 Mexico.

HILLS NOW MAKE SPAIN 3/4 FAVS TO WIN THEIR GROUP, WITH CHILE AT 17/10; SWITZERLAND 9/2. To qualify – 3/10 Spain; 8/15 Chile; 1/2 Switzerland; 150/1 Honduras.
