DESPITE recent improvements including a Champions Trophy victory over their hosts, England are odds against to win their forthcoming ODI series in South Africa.

Ladbrokes make Andrew Strauss’ men 5/2 with their counterparts odds on at 2/7. Kevin Pietersen is 3/1 favourite to top score in the series after being named in the squad and 7/2 to score three or more centuries in the Twenty20′s, ODI’s and Tests. He is 6/4 to play in all five one day internationals and 7/4 to be the top scoring South African born player in the England team.

Ladbrokes spokesman Robin Hutchison said: “England’s recent improvements will be strongly tested by a South African side smarting from an early Champions Trophy exit.”

Confederation Cup South Africa Vs New Zealand

Can the All Whites score against South Africa, we suspect not

Can the All Whites score against South Africa, we suspect not

Confederation Cup, South Africa Vs New Zealand is live on BBC3 at 7-30pm

South Africa looked bereft of imagination in their opening game and New Zealand looked out of their depth against Spain. We are therefore looking at a game today that is unlikely to inspire and thrill and the only bet I can heavily recommend is to trade the 0-0 at 16.5 on Betfair!

This is the game that may indicate whether Iraq or South Africa will qualify alongside Spain in Group A of the Confederation Cup and as we suggested earlier, Iraq were always the value bet.  I am also disappointed that the TV schedules did not allow for the Spain game to appear as the 7-30 evening game, FIFA missed a trick there!

New Zealand are only 10 placings behind South Africa in the FIFA rankings but on the points system they are 40 points behind, so it would seem natural to take South Africa to win with home advantage. But South Africa have won only 2 from their last 12 and New Zealand have only had to beat teams like Fiji, North Caledonia and Vanuatu to become Champions of Oceania and I prefer to back the draw (at 5.8 on Betfair) and trade in play just in case one of these teams spots that the object of the game is to score a goal. Much will depend on whether Pienaar starts for South Africa.

Prediction :- A no-score bore that is probably only marginally more interesting than Coronation Street which starts at the same time!

Confederation Cup South Africa V Iraq

South Africa's Bafana Bafana (the boys, the boys) take on Iraq in the Confederation Cup opener

South Africa's Bafana Bafana (the boys, the boys) take on Iraq in the Confederation Cup opener

Live on BBCi, Sunday, 14th June 2009, 3pm Kick-off

The Confederation Cup opener between hosts South Africa and Iraq promises to be like many other international football competition openers and a battle to “not lose” rather than an effort to win and get some scores on the doors.

Iraq are on the rise and have beaten both China and Australia recently, whilst South Africa have won just two from their last six and a win against Equitorial Guinea hardly counts as a win at all!

This is a banana skin waiting to happen for the hosts and even a draw would make South Africa’s qualification for the next stage a difficult task because it would all come down to how many these teams concede against Spain and how many they score against New Zealand!

I’m on the draw at 4.2 on Betfair, in spades! South Africa are simply too short at 1.64 and I supsect there will be serious money to lay them at that price.

Openers are rarely goal fests and I am also taking the 0-0 and will trade it on Betfair for a profit around 30 minutes into the game if it pans out as expected although a livelier affair will see me cut my losses and take my money at an earlier stage.

My model has the 0-0 at 12.0 currently and at 30 minutes I expect to lay that off at around 5.5 for a profit across the board. Interestingly, the draw should be trading at 2.5 just after half time and I am looking to hold the draw to this point in a three runner race, since a goal from Iraq would have little impact on the trading position.

This promises to be a trading game and that’s exactly what I will do by taking Iraq to qualify out of the group and being quick off the mark and laying it back if the Iraqi’s fail to live up to my expectations.

2020 Cricket Betting…Tuesday 9th June

World Cup T20 coverage gets serious on Tuesday for us after the form of most teams in the competition has now been well established. This gives us the chance to get some realistic gauge on team vs team scenarios and overall tournament winner scenarios.

2020 Cricket Continues Today on SkySports

2020 Cricket Continues Today on SkySports

The first game we cover is New Zealand v South Africa (5.30pm), this is not the days first game though as Pakistan play Holland earlier, and the big leaning is towards South Africa here who looked much more impressive than New Zealand with both teams beating Scotland over the last week period. The big difference is the quality of the bowling and fielding of both sides. South Africa have a big advantage in both areas and also look a more solid batting line up. Being superior in all 3 areas makes them a strong bet here, not only to win the match but also in the highest opening partnership market. Our betting advice for this game is listed below.

09/06/2009 – ICC T20 World Cup
New Zealand v South Africa = Match Winner – South Africa @ 1.53 = 6%
New Zealand v South Africa = Highest Opening Partnership – South Africa @ 1.85 = 4%
