Punters Get Revenge At Royal Ascot As Bookies Run For Cover

The Punters were celebrating their greatest week of results at Royal Ascot in the modern era, according to Ladbrokes. It was a remarkable meeting, a total contrast to Cheltenham where the bookies won hands down.

Royal Ascot Betting, Free Horseracing Tips

Royal Ascot Betting,Punters Won

The five day meeting at Royal Ascot saw the bookies handing millions of quid back to their customers as favourite after favourite obliged to reward hundreds of thousands of racing fans. Imagine if England had beaten Algeria? As it goes that was a huge winner for the bookmakers, so its not all bad.

I have had a wonderful Royal Ascot Betting week. I hope you have enjoyed our Royal Ascot Betting Podcasts, we are definitely ahead, well ahead on the week. Its about time we gave the bookies a bashing. Cheltenham was a killer, Royal Ascot was a fantastic week. I have loved it.

David Williams of Ladbrokes said: “Punters have never had it so good. Every single day they’ve given us a right royal bashing. Nobody at Royal Ascot can remember a meeting where we’ve suffered such punishment. We can’t wait to get out of Royal Berkshire so that we can lick our wounds in a darkened room. Thank goodness for the England football team. They are our only salvation in a week of misery for the bookies.”

If the layers thought that Royal Ascot had been bad going into the final day, they had no idea what was about to hit them as a huge plunge on Wokingham winner Laddies Poker Two meant punters ended the Royal meeting on a high.

Freely available at 25/1 two weeks before the race, Jeremy Noseda’s mare had been steadily supported in the ante-post market before a massive gamble saw her price contract from double figures to an eventual SP of 9/2.

‘Punters have clawed back their Cheltenham losses and more after a woeful week for the layers,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo. ‘At this rate, we’ll need Honduras to win the World Cup to make the balance sheet look respectable!’

Earlier on the card, both Harbinger and the well-backed Starspangledbanner had put the bookmakers on the back foot but there was a crumb of comfort after Cill Rialaig managed to hold off the fast-finishing Imposing to take the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at 16/1.

Britain’s bookies are battered, bruised and bloodied after the worst set of Royal Ascot results for decades.

“It has been carnage, no other word for it,” said David Hood, spokesman for William Hill.

“What is it about Ascot? For some bookies the five consecutive losing days for 2010, will make the infamous Dettori day look like a round of drinks.”

The two biggest gambles of the week were landed by Dandino and Laddies Poker Two and if Imposing had gone in, there wouldn’t have been enough cash on-course to pay punters! They have literally won tens of millions of pounds this week.”

Just five winners obliged at double-figure odds (10-1 or bigger) throughout 30 races of the week, with 13 winning favourites passing the post first for punters.

Harbinger 10/1 for the Arc after Hardwicke rout

Harbinger has been installed as a 10/1 chance by totesport for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp after running away with the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot this afternoon.

The 8/11 favourite travelled powerfully under Ryan Moore and pulled effortlessly away from the field when asked for his effort to score by three and a half lengths from Duncan.

‘Harbinger was extremely impressive when running away with the Hardwicke and is clearly getting better with every run,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo. ‘He could be a live contender for the Arc come October.’

Zaidan was a formidable winner of the Chesham Stakes earlier on the card for Clive Brittain and has been given a quote of 20/1 by totesport for next year’s 2000 Guineas although his trainer did state that a tilt at the Kentucky Derby could be on the cards.

Day five at Royal Ascot, we have your essential Royal Ascot Betting Tips, for Saturday. It has been a superb Royal Ascot and now we look to end our Royal Ascot betting with a winner.

Free Royal Ascot Betting Tips

Royal Ascot Bettiing Tips and Podcast from Racing Diary

So Saturday, can we end our Royal Ascot betting activity with a profit? For goodness sake lets not throw away our winnings in these nightmare handicaps. The bookies will be out to get their money back…. that said one of the horses of the week runs for me here at Royal Ascot on Saturday.

3:05 Royal Ascot, Hardwicke Stakes, Harbinger, Win.

I have Harbinger down as my best bet of the meeting, a real banker. Sir Michael Stoutes horse looks a very improved sort with two perfect wins this season. I think he will land the hat-trick here today. He beat Manifest who showed what a good horse he was by winning the Yorkshire Cup. He gave Age of Aquarius three pounds and a sound beating at Chester on his last run, he looks a very good horse. I think he is Group One class, in this Group two race I think HARBINGER will prove a ready winner and I will be a sizeable backer.

3:50 Royal Ascot Golden Jubilee Stakes, High Standing, Win.

The chances of finding a winner in this race is slim, so minimum stakes. What a race this is any one of them could win. I am however a big fan of HIGH STANDING who is a special horse over six furlongs. Three weeks ago to the day he warmed up with a good win at Haydock, under Ryan Moore. Jamie Spencer fills in but that is no worry today, Spencer like Moore has four wins to his name aboard High Standing. This is tough, so small stakes, but I do like High Standing.
totesport.com

5:35 Royal Ascot, Queen Alexandra, Munsef, Win

At York this horse was given a thrashing by Tactic who is entered to run at Pontefract on Sunday (one to back I think). Munsef though could be the answer in the lucky last, over this marathon trip. Ian Williams is a trainer who I have plenty of time for and he always produces this horse to perfection, as his consistent record will testify to. MUNSEF to win the lucky last at Royal Ascot.

I hope you have enjoyed it. It has been a fantastic five days and I hope we have given you plenty Free Horseracing Tips that have won!

Ryan Moore Royal Ascot Jockey Favourite

Moore still favourite as race for Royal Ascot top jockey enters final furlong

There’s all to play for in the race to be top jockey at Royal Ascot after the fourth day and four of the leading riders are all in with a shout ahead of the final six races.

Free Horseracing Tips

Ryan Moore, Champion Jockey

A victory apiece for Frankie Dettori and Richard Hughes this afternoon means they share the lead with three winners each whilst a brace for Johnny Murtagh means he is firmly back in the reckoning alongside Ryan Moore on two winners.

Moore still heads the market at 11/10 with totesport with Richard Hughes next in the betting at 7/4. Murtagh is a 5/1 shot with Dettori the outsider of the quartet at 7/1.

‘The race to be top jockey at Royal Ascot is usually done and dusted by the fourth day but there’s still all to play for with four of the leading riders going toe to toe at the top of the table,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

The bookmakers are facing an uphill battle to make the Royal meeting respectable after several well-backed horse obliged on the fourth day.

‘Rainbow Peak’s victory combined with a brace for Johnny Murtagh means we’re staring down the barrel of a gun going into the final day of the Royal meeting,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo. ‘If Harbinger obliges in the Hardwicke Stakes on Saturday, then we may as well pull the trigger ourselves.’

Charlie McCann’s Weekend Racing Preview, Royal Ascot Betting

Free Horseracing Tips

By Charlie McCann

The listed Chesham Stakes which opens today’s Royal Ascot card has been won by the jockey/trainer combination of Richard Hughes and Richard Hannon for the last couple of years and they look to have every chance of the hat-trick courtesy of King Torus who made a winning debut at Leicester last month.

At the time of writing Aidan O’Brien hasn’t had the best of weeks but Jackeroo (2.30) is by Derby winner Galileo and ought to appreciate today’s 7f trip which is not something you can say about many of the other runners.

A high draw has been a distinct advantage over the round course this week and if Harbinger had a double figure box he would be something to bet on the in Hardwicke Stakes. Ryan Moore rode a wonderful race in defeat in the King George V Stakes on Thursday from stall 3 and that is the draw for Harbinger (3.05). I am convinced he is a better class than today’s rivals and if he doesn’t get too far back in the early part of the race he ought to take the beating.

The Group1 Golden Jubilee Stakes is the feature race on the card and it is a truly international event with runners from France, Hong Kong, Australia and the USA taking on the best of Britain and Ireland. This can throw up some great winners, remember this?

If they ran the race half an hour later you would probably get a different result there is so little between the runners, but I have long been an admirer of the mare Fleeting Spirit (3.50) who has twice finished placed at Royal Ascot. At first glance she looks to have a favourable draw near the far rail but the likely pace in the race looks nearer the stand rail with American speedball Kinsale King likely to blaze a trail down the centre of the track.

The Wokingham is one of the biggest betting races of the year and we will be betting ¼ odds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 places for this prestigious and valuable cavalry charge. Palace Moon (4.25 ew) looked an unlucky loser at Salisbury on Sunday and the horse has subsequently changed hands. In a wide open contest if the stands rail is the place to be he could go close at 20/1 with Kieren Fallon doing the steering. Last year’s Stewards’ Cup winner Genki looks a worthy favourite after a cracking reappearance at the StanJames.com Guineas Festival but he is too short in the betting for such a competitive event.

Away from Ascot Qanoon (2.25 Ayr) travelled like a decent animal at Newmarket on debut and can maintain his unbeaten record for William Haggas. The nap of the weekend is Rose Blossom (3.00 Ayr ) who lost nothing in defeat on rain-softened ground at Haydock last time behind High Standing who is one of the leading players for the Golden Jubilee. Irish raider Bewitched took the Sandy Lane Stakes on the same card that the selection met with defeat, but that was over an additional furlong. The hope is that she can make the market for Rose Blossom who can make all under the stand rail.

Fleeting Spirit cut for Golden Jubilee as 24 declared

Ryan Moore just shades favouritism in the race to be top jockey at Royal Ascot with totesport and the Wigan-based firm make him 8/11 to take the crown. July Cup winner Fleeting Spirit has been cut to 13/2 (from 8/1) by totesport after a field of 24 was declared for Saturday’s Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Main Aim has also shortened to 10/1 (from 12s) for the six furlong dash whilst Genki now heads the market for the Wokingham Handicap with totesport at 6/1 (from 8/1) after ante-post favourite Hawkeyethenoo missed the cut for the race.

Top Royal Ascot Jockey…

The champion jockey drew a blank on the third day of the Royal meeting but still heads the table due to the number of placed horses he has ridden. Frankie Dettori is next in the market at 11/4 after his victory on Hibaayeb in the Ribblesdale Stakes took his tally to two for the meeting.

‘We’ve seen some thrilling finishes at Royal Ascot already this week but the race to be top jockey could end up being just as close with Ryan Moore, Richard Hughes and Frankie Dettori all sitting pretty with two wins apiece,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

The bookmakers fought back on the third day of Royal Ascot after Rite Of Passage sunk a huge gamble on Ask in the Ascot Gold Cup when winning at 20/1.

‘Although the punters had a result in the Hampton Court Stakes courtesy of Afsare, Rite Of Passage’s victory in the Ascot Gold Cup ensured that day three of the Royal meeting belonged to the bookies,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Royal Ascot Betting, Essential Guide

Here we go again, Friday at the wonderful Royal Ascot. It has been good for the punters so far, Will Friday be another Royal Ascot Betting Winner for us backers? Here are your Free Royal Ascot Betting Tips, by Carl Harris

2:30 Royal Ascot Albany Stakes, Memory, Win.

This is a case of back to the tried and tested formula of backing the Richard Hannon two year-olds. Memory has raced just the once, as have many of these, but I take the view that with so many two year-olds in his stable Hannon will have a good guide as to how good this one is. Strong Suit won readily on the first day, so using  that a benchmark he will have a good idea where he is. I am sure he will be interviewed on Friday. I always keep an eye on his website, which is a great source of information.

In a tough race, MEMORY is the one I will be backing, minimum stakes here.
totesport.com

3:05 Royal Ascot, King Edward VII Stakes, Bullet Train, Win

Like Timepiece, who flopped in the Oaks but won at Royal Ascot, Bullet Train can come back to form with a win here in this Group Two event. Henry Cecil has saddled over 80 Royal Ascot winners and I think has a live chance of another with BULLET TRAIN. He won the Lingfield Derby trial in easy style but ran so bad at Epsom the only conclusion can be that he didn’t handle the track. Putting the Derby aside his form is very strong and he could show his class with Tom Queally in the saddle.

Free Royal Ascot Horseracing Tips

Bullet Train can win at Royal Ascot

3:50 Royal Ascot, Coronation Stakes (Group 1), Jacqueline Quest, Win

Jacqueline Quest was first past the post in the 1000 Guineas with several of todays field behind her. I am baffled by the early prices of around 7/1  but not hesitant in taking it. She looked an improved type who would have won the 1000 Guineas but for a stewards decision to award it to Special Duty. Music Show was soundly beaten at Newmarket and I see the same result here again. Henry Cecil trains and Tom Queally rides, so it could, if I am right, be a good day for the pair at Royal Ascot.

JACQUELINE QUEST is the Coronation Stakes bet on Friday to win.

Free Horseracing Tips

Another Mark Johnston win at Royal Ascot

5:00 Royal Ascot, Queens Vase, Win

The step up in trip is just what the doctor ordered for Corsica. Last time at Musselburgh he came last and looked like a stayer, so over 2 miles I am a backer today. Frankie Dettori is in the saddle, a very good move in my book, the King of Ascot. He was conceding 18 pounds to an unexposed type last time out and with the stable having an impressive record in this race I think Corsica represents solid value here.

CORSICA is my best bet of the day on Friday at Royal Ascot.

On Saturday we have yet more free horseracing tips from Royal Ascot and our final free Royal Ascot Betting Podcast.

Rite Of Passage Wins Gold Cup, Royal Ascot Betting Update

25/1 RITE OF PASSAGE TO MAKE HISTORY WITH DUAL-PURPOSE GOLD CUPS

Rite of Passage has been installed by William Hill as a 25-1 chance to become the first horse to win Flat, and National Hunt Gold Cups following his victory at Ascot this afternoon.

Picture

Punters were caught unawares when Dermot Weld’s dual-purpose gelding Rite of Passage showed his stamina capabilities over the testing 2m4f trip, by just holding off Aidan O Brien’s Age of Aquarius at odds of 20-1 with William Hill.

After storming home in track-record breaking time, Hills have installed the Irish trained-stayer at odds of 5-1 for a repeat victory next year, and installed him as a 10-1 shot to triumph in the Melbourne Cup later this year.

It could be a third possibly victory for handler Dermot Weld who became the first European trainer to take Australia’s iconic race when winning with Vintage Crop in 1993. The Curragh trainer also followed-up with a win by Media Puzzle in 2002.

Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill: “We were looking for a new staying champion, and it came in an unlikely form of Rite of Passage. A top-class performer over hurdles, he has now become one in both codes. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that we witness a dual Cheltenham, and Ascot Gold Cup winner if he ever takes up chasing.’’

Saeed bin Suroor landed back-to-back victories in the Ribblesdale Stakes when Hibaayeb (4-1 joint-favourite) ran out an impressive winner in the hands of Frankie Dettori at Royal Ascot.

Barry and Michael Hills were back in the Royal Ascot winners’ enclosure after the victory of Ransom Note (9-1) in the Britannia Stakes. Approve dented a couple of lofty reputations when battling to success in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Purple Moon Huge Morning Gold Cup Punt

Stan James were forced to slash Purple Moon from 33s to 14/1 for the Ascot Gold Cup following a morning plunge on the Luca Cumani trained former Ebor winner.

Ryan Moore Odds On In Royal Ascot Betting (Top Jockey)

RYAN MOORE, friendless in the Royal Ascot top jockey betting a day earlier, was on Wednesday evening back to odds-on favouritism in the race for the Arora Hotels top jockey competition at Royal Ascot.

Ryan Moore top Royal Ascot Jockey

Moore fights back in race to be top jockey at Royal Ascot

Ryan Moore is now the 4/7 favourite with totesport to be top jockey at Royal Ascot following a brace on the second day.

The champion jockey won the first two races on the card aboard Rainfall and Strawberrydaiquiri which puts him level at the top of the table alongside 7/4 second favourite Richard Hughes.

If the first day of the Royal meeting belonged to Richard Hughes then the second definitely belonged to Ryan Moore who overtakes his rival at the head of the top jockey market,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Frankie Dettori got off the mark in the Royal Hunt Cup when he guided Invisible Man to success for Godolphin and he is a 12/1 shot with totesport to be top jockey.

Punters held the edge for the second day of the Royal meeting as well-backed favourites Byword and Maqaasid landed the spoils and some hefty punts in the process.

Another Royal Ascot Winner for Racing Diary!

There is nothing better than winning and your Royal Ascot betting being well in profit! Another great day for us on Wednesday, now we have yet more free horseracing tips for Royal Ascot, on Thursday which is of course ladies day! There is no Yeats in the Royal Ascot Gold Cup, the Group One feature of the day, but I think we will have two very good winners, with just two bets today.

I am taking a more targeted approach, now our Royal Ascot betting bank is well in the black! Ladies day is always more fun than business. I wont be there but I have two strong bets, but am ambivalent about the other races on the card. Two bets at Royal Ascot today;

2:30 Royal Ascot, Norfolk Stakes, Dinkum Diamond, Win

This is a good two year-old race. I think it breaks down to a match between Richard Hannon’s Zebedee and Dinkum Diamond, who I rate as the best of these. He won so well at Sandown, in the National Stakes, up the testing hill that I immediately noted him as the one to follow at Royal Ascot. I am just glad he tips up in this and not against Strong Suit.

Henry Candy has placed him right, this is a good race for him and a good bet at about the 3/1 mark. Dane O’Neil keeps the ride, a positive. I think this is a very good two-year-old. Like Strong Suit on Tuesday the dogs are barking for this one, lets hope that the horse’s bite is worthy of the bark.

Best bet of the day, DINKUM DIAMOND, at Royal Ascot, Thursday.

Free Royal Ascot Horseracing Tips

Manifest can win at Royal Ascot

3:50 Royal Ascot, Gold Cup (Group One) Manifest, Win.

At York in the Yorkshire Cup manifest simply blew the field away. That was over 1m 6f and today is over 2m 4f but I think that he is a stayer. With over 80 Royal Ascot winners, including Timepiece yesterday, Henry Cecil is not a man to make elementary mistakes. Manifest could be a very good satyer for the future.

There is no Yeats of course, who has won this contest for the past four years. A new name will be etched on the Ascot Gold Cup in 2010, I think it will be Manifest. Ask could run a big race, he is officially the highest rated horse in the race but has to give a couple of punds away and is without a run this season.
totesport.com

Manifest just kept going at York and what I saw, in the flesh that day, gave me encouragement. I think this is tailor-made for Manifest. I am not saying he is another yeats but I do thik he will win at a faily good price.
