Punters v Bookies
A string of favourable results for Paddy today left him savouring a great final day at the Royal fixture.

Paddy Power himself said: “It’s been a very good day and at one stage looked like being an absolute bloodbath for punters. However, High Standing winning the Wokingham did them a favour and took some of the gloss off as he was the best backed horse in the race.

“Pires, who was also very popular, getting beaten leaves us on the right side for today. Overall it’s been a 2½ all score draw for the week!”

3.45 Golden Jubilee Stakes

The King’s Stand went Down Under thanks to Scenic Blast and this Group 1 sprint could be bound for either South Africa or Hong Kong courtesy of J J The Jet Plane or Sacred Kingdom.

There is precious little between them on form – and it might be worth backing one and saving on the other – but if pressed to split them I suspect J J The Jet Plane might be the one based on his runaway defeat of smart rivals under a big penalty at Windsor.

Newmarket vibes have been positive about last year’s winner Kingsgate Native after an abortive spell at stud, but the “Greek Freak” Ialysos has much more on than when winning at Haydock.

King’s Apostle goes really well here but needs a career best to improve his fine Ascot record, while Art Connoisseur is the one who appeals as capable of going well at a wild price if back to the sort of form he showed here last year

Three Great bets from Racing Diary!

8:36
Racing Diary (Carl):  he big handicap of the day is the Wokingham Stakes and despite his high draw High Standing, the selection of Pricewise, has been well supported. There is plenty of money queuing up on the betting exchanges to back the William Haggas-trained four-year-old at around 7-1 and bookmakers Bet365 make him a 6-1 chance (from 7).
8:35
Racing Diary (Carl):  THE feature race on the final day of Royal Ascot is the Golden Jubilee Stakes and punters are finding it hard to split the front two in the market.

JJ The Jet Plane, representing South Africa, has been at the head of the ante-post market for some time but he now has to share favouritism with Sacred Kingdom. The Hong Kong sprinter was supplemented for this race and he seems the stronger of the two on the early exchanges. The pair are general 11-4 joint favourites this morning.

8:07
Racing Diary (Carl):

With one day still remaining at Royal Ascot 2009, bookmakers believe Gold Cup-winning rider Johnny Murtagh has the top jockey title wrapped up.

Picture
Murtagh – remains favourite.

Perched on four winners for the meeting after missing both Friday and Saturday through suspension, Murtagh was cut to 1/2 by totesport from the 4/6 on offer 24 hours earlier, while William Hill are more generous at this stage, moving to 4/6 from 8/13.

Sky Bet were keen to lay Murtagh before Friday’s action and were a top-priced 10/11. They now offer 4/7.

Murtagh is looking to retain the London Clubs Charity Trophy for the second year in a row and his nearest challengers in the betting are Richard Hughes and Ryan Moore.

Champion jockey Moore moved to two winners for the meeting through Perfect Stride in the Wolferton Handicap and still has some tasty rides left on the final afternoon with the likes of Kingsgate Native and Doctor Fremantle to look forward to.

Moore is 15/8 second best with Hills and Sky Bet and 9/4 with totesport. Although Hughes has three on the board, he is virtually discounted and available at 10/1 with Sky Bet, despite being odds-on after Tuesday’s treble. Richard Hills is another with three after the brilliant success of Ghanaati in the Coronation Stakes, but he is a 25/1 chance with Sky Bet and totesport.

8:07
Racing Diary (Carl):

Mike de Kock is in bullish mood as he prepares to saddle South African speedball J J The Jet Plane in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.

Picture
J J The Jet Plane – ready to rumble.

The five-year-old was unbeatable in his native land, with the only defeat of his career so far coming on the Nad Al Sheba dirt in February.

He put that disappointment behind him by returning to winning ways back on the turf in Dubai – and also showed he is equally effective on British soil when running away with a Listed race at Windsor.

“I’d say he has definitely come on a bit since Windsor and, thankfully, we have had no interruptions since then. We just have to see if he’s good enough now,” said the South African handler.

“I do think it’s an advantage that he’s been over here a while as he’s settled in well now and has already travelled to a racecourse – that all helps as he can be a bit fired up.

“He’s drawn nine of 14 and that gives the jockey all the options. Everything is in his favour and the fast ground is 100% ideal.

“You have got to respect Sacred Kingdom after the way he ran in Singapore and of the locals, I suppose there is King’s Apostle who I know a little bit about.

8:07
Racing Diary (Carl):

Trainer Joe Janiak scratched the Australian ‘iron horse’ when signs indicated all was not right with the gelding. On veterinary examination, it was found Takeover Target had a raised temperature; he had also reportedly been lethargic in his work.

His absence deprives enthusiasts of a conclusion to a romantic tale of the Turf that has endured as long as Yeats has been winning Gold Cups. Takeover Target had been expected to line up in his fourth consecutive Golden Jubilee, a race in which he had finished second, third and fourth.

Racing Diary (Carl):  John McCririck’s Day Five Tips

It’s the final day of Royal Ascot but Big Mac and Gary are still bullish about their chances of winning…

Big Mac says: “My Thursday was ruined after that fat guesser somehow managed to pick Radiohead in the first – and at a Betfair SP of [14.0], too, with the industry return only 10-1. How lucky can a fat man get? (hopefully very lucky if the man in question is me).

“But that creature has no stamina – the last exercise he did was when wiggling his legs coming out of the womb – and he will tie up in the closing stages.

“Mac to get up on the line in the Battle Of The Bulge!”

Golden Jubilee Stakes (3.45)

I was at Windsor when JJ The Jet Plane won and I was hailing him as the best horse ever to race on the course, alongside with the mighty Halling. Mike De Kock came on ATR before the race and told all the South African ex-pats to lump and he ran a great trial for this; giving weight and a trouncing to second-raters would have teed him up nicely for this prize. He is a superstar and at around [4.0] he is a decent bet.

Wokingham Stakes (4.25)

I like Jimmy Styles in the Wokingham. It may be unoriginal as he is the 11-2 favourite in a 28-runner field but he is very progressive, is ideally drawn in stall one and is from the red hot Clive Cox stable. That’ll do for me.

Queen Alexandra Stakes (5.35)

I like Halla San in the marathon contest. He is not far off on the ratings, is in fair nick, should love the trip and hails from the in-form Fahey stable, who got on the Ascot scoresheet with a 66-1 winner on Thursday.

Like the look of JJ The Jet Plane, Jimmy Styles and Halla San?

Lay of the Day.

It is all about price in this game and i think Doctor Fremantle is too short in the Hardwicke at 7-4 on Betfair. He is a high class animal has always promised more than he has delivered, and connections were expecting him to win by more than a nose on his reappearance. He could be vulnerable.

8:06
Racing Diary (Carl):  Sam Turner Daily Mail (Robin Goodfellow) Tips for Royal Ascot Day Five

HARD TO IGNORE CAMPANOLOGIST

The victory of Flying Cloud on Thursday will have given Godolphin a welcome boost and CAMPANOLOGIST (Royal Ascot, nb, 3.05) may continue their revival with success in a below-par renewal of the Hardwicke Stakes.

Last year’s King Edward VII Stakes winner was given a cute ride from the front by Frankie Dettori that day and I’m hoping that the Italian can employ similar tactics this afternoon on a horse which should strip fitter for a recent outing in good company at Sandown.

This looks to have been the primary plan all season for Campanologist and he should be thereabouts.

GOLD STRIKE FOR NOSEDA

The presence of classy foreign sprinters J J The Jet Plane and Sacred Kingdom adds further spice to the Golden Jubilee Stakes today and it would be no surprise to see either oblige in a hot renewal.

However, bookmakers are now wise to raiders from outside the UK and, with trainer Jeremy Noseda enjoying a good week, it may prove prudent to risk a few units each-way on STRIKE THE DEAL (Royal Ascot, nap, 3.45) to add another shock to the race’s roll call.

The 4yo has been within a length or two of the top sprinters for a while now, but posted a big speed figure at Lingfield last time and may represent better value than his more high-profile opponents.

TAKE TAMAGIN TAMAGIN

(Royal Ascot, 4.25) is a bit of a law unto himself, but Kevin Ryan’s speedster is a talented handicapper when in the mood and could be primed for a big run in the Wokingham.

I like the form of his recent run at Lingfield and his early-season win at Newcastle suggests a stiff 6f is well within his compass these days.

8:06
Racing Diary (Carl):  Racing Diary (Carl): Tips from Rob Wright The Times for Saturday:
Royal Ascot
2.30 Shakespearean
3.05 Dansant (nap)
3.45 Sacred Kingdom (nb)
4.25 Exclamation
5.00 Heron Bay
5.35 Tasheba
8:05
Racing Diary (Carl):  Rob Wright The Times Says;
The speedy Sacred Kingdom, trained in Hong Kong by Ricky Yiu, is strongly fancied to land the group one Golden Jubilee Stakes (3.45) today.

Scenic Blast, the Australian raider, put up a brilliant display to take the week’s other group one speed test and Sacred Kingdom arrives here with similarly strong credentials. Rated the best sprinter in the world in 2007, he lost his form last year after being injured but still shared top spot in the rankings with Marchand D’Or.

Sacred Kingdom has bounced back to his best this term and showed a good turn of foot to beat Rocket Man by a neck, with Diabolical a further 3 lengths back in third, in the group one International Sprint in Singapore last month. That was his first venture outside Hong Kong and, according to his trainer, he is relishing his new roving role. “He’s travelled well and looks terrific. It looks like he’s enjoying this trip even better than the one to Singapore,” Yiu said.

Blessed with a high cruising speed, Sacred Kingdom should be able to track the front-running J J The Jet Plane before cutting him down in the closing stages.

Pick of the home team is Kingsgate Native. He won this race 12 months ago when trained by John Best and was retired to stud. However, having failed to get any mares in foal, Kingsgate Native was returned to training with Sir Michael Stoute and, despite his lengthy absence from the track, he has to be respected.

8:05
Racing Diary (Carl):  Good Morning the closing day of Royal Ascot…All the morning news!

Saturday’s Horseracing Tips..20th June 2009

Sacred Kingdom can land the Golden Jubilee

51334957

I see Sacred Kingdom as the clear pick for the Golden Jubilee Stakes (3.45) as he ticks all the right boxes, his form is rock solid, he is superbly bred with a sprinting pedigree and he carries the hottest turf sprinting form in the world at the moment. He was considered a brilliant Australian juvenile with a current rating which puts him alongside the likes of Choisir. Trained in Hong Kong connections paid a £45,000 late-entry fee for Sacred Kingdom and must be reasonably confident following his last run which saw him readily win the Krisflyer sprint in Singapore.

For a Full update of Saturday at Royal Ascot CLICK HERE

The only worry is the draw. Five of the last seven Golden Jubilee Stakes winners have come from the top or the bottom four in the draw, so being drawn eight is not ideal . However, it has been reported than in his work, at Manton where he is stabled in the UK, that he is going very well and his trainer Mr Yiu has been making very positive noises in the Australian media. JJ the Jet Plane is going to be popular but I think that the odds are a reaction to the run at Windsor, where Sacred Kingdom won a huge race with he and Rocket Man drawing clear of a world class field. Sacred Kingdom came back to form in Hong Kong and a repeat of the Singapore run will destroy this field. This is my best bet of the week and I think the odds could be genuine value. Watch that Singapore run from Youtube…

The Wokingham looks as competitive as ever (4.25) but High Standing excels over six furlongs with figures of four wins from four starts over the trip. An eye-catching jockey booking is Ryan Moore who has had winners at Royal Ascot and looks in top gear now.  William Haggas has done really well with the four year-old but there are two concerns. Firstly the draw again and the fact that he likes to come from off the pace which with a field 28 is always fraught with problems, but there are not many better than the Champion jockey to get them home! I am sure that with a better draw he would be favourite and is probably an each-way price.

I think Ryan Moore could have a winner earlier on the card with Doctor Fremantle (3.05) who can follow up his Chester win by taking the group two Hardwicke Stakes.

Todays Bets

3.05 Doctor Fremantle win

3.45 Sacred Kingdom win

4.25 High Standing win and place

Day Five Royal Ascot- Betting Preview

A great day to close what has been a wonderful Royal Meeting in 2009.

The Closing day of Royal Ascot 2009

The Closing day of Royal Ascot 2009

Saturdays Race Schedule is as follows;

  • 2:30 Chesham Stakes (listed) (2yo, Class 1, 7f, 17 runners)
  • 3:05 Hardwicke Stakes (group 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 1m 4f, 9 runners)
  • 3:45 Golden Jubilee Stakes (global Sprint Challenge) (group 1) (3yo+, Class 1, 6f, 15 runners)
  • 4:25 Wokingham Stakes Heritage Handicap (3yo+, Class 2, 6f, 28 runners)
  • 5:00 Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes Heritage Handicap (3yo+, Class 2, 1m 4f, 19 runners)
  • 5:35 Queen Alexandra Stakes Conditions Race (4yo+, Class 2, 2m 5f 159y, 12 runners)

The highlight of the day is the Golden Jubilee Stakes at 3.45 which is an international affair, but there is some great supporting races to get stuck in to.

2:30 Chesham Stakes (listed) (2yo, Class 1, 7f, 17 runners)

A difficult race to kick off the day with a 17 runner group 2 event. The 7f listed event for 2 year-olds is never easy to solve and this is no exception. Wesley Ward runs Honor in Peace but the one to beat is Beethoven trained by Aidan O’Brien who is easily the top rated and is an 11/10 shot. Jimmy Fortune gets the ride and could have a Royal Ascot winner aboard this son of Derby winner Oratorio.

Racing Diary Advice

Back Beethoven

3:05 Hardwicke Stakes (group 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 1m 4f, 9 runners)

A decent group 2 where Ryan Moore could have another winner for Sir Michael Stoute aboard Doctor Fremantle who we backed at Chester. The 4 year-old won the Huxley Stakes last time and can land this one. He will have to beat Campanologist of Godolphin but I think he will. I really like Doctor Fremantle and will be backing him to win.

Racing Diary Advice

Back Doctor Fremantle

3:45 Golden Jubilee Stakes (global Sprint Challenge) (group 1) (3yo+, Class 1, 6f, 15 runners)

The feature race of the day and an international affair. I am with Nathan Lynch here who thinks Sacred Kingdom is the best bet for this competitive sprint. (click to read a full analysis of the Golden Jubilee) Takeover Target is a non-runner now but the international make-up is still there and Sacred Kingdom is trained in Hongkong can beat the South African trained JJ The Jet Plane.

Latest Odds: 3 J J The Jet Plane, Sacred Kingdom, 9 Kings Apostle, 10 Ialysos, Kingsgate Native,Takeover Target, 14 Lesson In Humility, 16 Bushranger, 20 Cannonball, Diabolical, 25 Art Connoisseur, 33 Strike The Deal, 40 Duff, Regal Parade, 50 Intrepid Jack ew odds 1,2,3

Racing Diary Advice

Back Sacred Kingdom

4:25 Wokingham Stakes Heritage Handicap (3yo+, Class 2, 6f, 28 runners)

This is a big betting handicap, a sprint over 6 furlongs. The market reflects just how competitive this race is, at 11-2 the field says it all.

Latest Odds: 11-2 Jimmy Styles, 7 High Standing, 10 Genki, 12 Something, 14 Evens And Odds, Markab, 20 Knot In Wood, Pearly Wey, Roker Park, Sohraab, Tamagin, 25 Advanced, Beaver Patrol, Exclamation, Major Eazy, Orpsie Boy, Prohibit, Rock Of Rochelle, Striking Spirit, Van Bossed, Zidane, 33 Asset, Soap Wars, Nota Bene, Kaldoun Kingdom, Brave Prospector, Osiris Way, Baby Strange, Carcinetto, Joseph Henry, River Falcon ew odds 1,2,3,4

The one for me is High Standing who is an each-way price at the above odds. Trained by William Haggas the gelding is unbeaten at 6 furlongs (4 from 4) and with Ryan Moore riding today this could be the value in the race.

Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes Heritage Handicap (3yo+, Class 2, 1m 4f, 19 runners)

A tricky 3 year-old handicap that we will preview seperately.

5:35 Queen Alexandra Stakes Conditions Race (4yo+, Class 2, 2m 5f 159y, 12 runners)

A marathon to close the Royal Ascot meeting of 2009 where there is a good bet in this lucky last in the shape of Amerigo. The Jarvis stable have not had a winner here this year and can get one on the board with a horse who was second to Patkai at last years Royal meeting. He finished strongly in the Chester Cup and can go well over this longer trip. We strongly fancy this one.

Royal Ascot- 4.20 Wolferton Handicap Preview

Wolferton Handicap (Ascot 4.20) Offers Substantial Value

51661299NL008_OaksDay
The 4.20 from Ascot which shapes as a 10f Listed affair has 2 horses in the field that catch the eye as very serious chances, one proven against stronger in the form of More Wells who is out of form both runs this season to the naked eye and an improver from the Godolphin yard in the form of Moonquake.

Moonquake looked very good winning at York over 10f having his 1st UK assignment this season after racing in Dubai at the start of the year, the 4yo son of Mr Greely showed a nice turn of foot to win going away after tracking leaders at York and score by only 0.5l but it was the depth consistent depth of margins further back through a strong field that suggested it had hit a new career peak, it can only improve further here 2nd up from a break and looks the one to beat as a potential low level Group horse in the near future.

The very well bred More Wells shapes as a serious contender if it can refind its early form here, it is 3rd up from a spell for its new France yard after transferring from Ireland at the end of last season via one run in Hong Kong, its 1st up effort this season was full of merit when 4th btn 3.7l, that day it pressured the leader and got chopped out in the stretch subject to significant interference, it is fitter now and back on top of the ground which suits it, it high class form from 2007 and 2008 that is minor Group class, that level will win here if repeated.

Back both of these for a result across the race.

Moonquake – 2 units @ 9.60
More Wells – 1 unit @ 19.50

For place punters the value lies with More Wells at 4.30 for the drum.

Layers, there is every chance to lay Stone Of Scone at 4.90 currently as the favorite on exchanges, he should be longer in this market.

Nathan Lynch Marks your Card for Friday at Royal Ascot…

Confidence High For Albany Stakes Plunge (2.30 Ascot)

Wesley Ward Can Land Another big prize at Royal Ascot

Wesley Ward Can Land Another big prize at Royal Ascot

A big field of 22 runners in engaged for the first race (2.30) on the Ascot card on Friday.

Juvenile fillies go 6f in a battle of sustained speed and the USA combination of Ward and Velazquez have their “best chance” engaged in the form of the undefeated juvenile Aegean, last start he took a G3 5f contest by 1.2l at Churchill Downs in what shapes as a very strong form race over the wide margin winner earlier this weel Jealous Again, the form is well and truely franked from numerous angles. The subsequent form out of that race suggests we may well be looking at a G1 prospect in the future, if so she will eat this lot up in what shapes as a fairly average race for G2 quality.

There is one with big scope for improvement who may test Aegean in the form of the Invincible Spirit filly She’s A Character, she closed with massive pars over 6f at Doncaster to win on debut by a widening 5l margin over some very well bred speed pedigrees, her racing style will be totally suited over the 6f stiff test here and she has the big scope.

We can back both of these for a result across the race.

Aegean – 6 units @ 3.20
She’s A Character – 2 units @ 24.00

Two Horse War In The Queen’s Vase (Ascot 4.55)

A total of 2 horses make appeal in the Queen’s Vase from Royal Ascot at 4.55 as types that are capable of winning. Both are solid in the market but enough depth exists in the prices to back for both confidently to derive a healthy profit from the race.

Mastery made marked improvement winning the Italian Derby at Group 2 level last start, it was not the strongest renewal of that race but bottom is he beat a big field by good margins and hit the line strongly, on breeding he will get the trip, his sire Sulamani there is simply no doubt about his ability to stay, his dame sire Diesis has recently been sire or dam sire of numerous worldwide G1 staying winners such as All The Good who won the 2008 Caulfield Cup for Godolphin, Mastery has big scope for further improvement here and on that basis is a very serious hope as a proven Group winner.

Stately Home is also lightly raced subject to big improvement, from the all conquering Ballydoyle yard this 3yo colt by Montjeu out of a Darshaan mare comes into this having its 3rd start and on debut knocked off Yankee Doodle in a strong maiden field at Leopardstown over 10f, it hit the line strongly that day suggesting this step up in trip will pose no problems, it has the usual Ballydoyle look for an emerging stayer, big scope and bred in the purple enough to be considered a significant group winner in the future based on its first few starts, thats good enough for us in this very average G3 contest.

As stated back both for a strong result across the race.

Mastery – 3 units @ 7.00
Stately Home – 3 units @ 9.20

Stately home is slightly better value for place punters.

Dhushan is totally a false favorite, at 4.40 it is good laying material, the place laying odds are very enticing too!

Golden Jubilee..Sacred Kingdom to land Saturday Sprint

Nathan Lynch is in great Form and today he looks at Saturday’s big G1 Saturday sprint at Royal Ascot…

Nathan Lynch looks at the Golden Jubilee Stakes

Nathan Lynch looks at the Golden Jubilee Stakes

Lets look at the main players;

J J The Jet Plane – Currently 5.40 favourite to win this race, won 2 Group 1 races on end in native South Africa back in May and June 08 by 2.2l and 4l in large fields of 15 and 16, sent to Dubai and in February won at Group 2 level over Hatta Fort and one run since in The UK won over 6f at Windsor in Listed company by 4l in a small field, exposed form refs from runs in both Dubai and The UK put it at G3 to G2 level at best despite its native G1 wins, exposed form refs give Sacred Kingdom a clear edge over it. Serious place chance but unlikely to beat the best of these including Sacred Kingdom.

Sacred Kingdom – very well bred sprinter of Australian origin by Encosta De Lago out of Courtroom Sweetie who herself was a very good sprinting mare by Zedative who won 3 from 4 in strong provincial races in Australia at her 2nd prep before going amiss, last start Sacred Kingdom won in Singapore over 6f at Kranji in G1 company defeating the ultra smart Rocket Man 2nd who was previously undefeated in Singapore and the race prior had broken Takeover Target’s track record set the previous year in the same race won by Sacred Kingdom this year, those 2 put a big 3.5l margin back to Diabolical in 3rd who at it’s start prior was only beaten 6.2l 3rd by Big City Man at Group 1 level in Dubai on Dubai World Cup night and back in July 08 was only 1.7l behind Marchand D’or and also only 2.5l behind African Rose at Doncaster in Group 1 company over 6f, those form refs put Sacred Kingdom well infront of J J The Jet Planes UK Listed success at Windsor and his G3 win in Dubai over Hatta Fort, a third formline confirming this theory is back through Mythical Flight who was beaten 7.2l by Sacred Kingdom in Singapore and was only 1l behind War Artist in its native South Africa, on a comparison J J The Jet Plane through it’s South African G1 wins only rates 2-3l infront of War Artist. We feel Sacred Kingdom has 2-3l up its sleeve over J J The Jet Plane. Sacred Kingdom as a juvenile was trained by 3 time Golden Slipper winning trainer Clarry Conners who has publicly been on record as saying it would have won The Golden Slipper if not onsold to Hong Kong prior to the start of its official juvenile career. Since being transferred to Hong Kong it has taken all before it winning 8 of it’s first 9 starts culminating in numerous G1 wins over Hong Kong’s and the world best sprinters who have visited Hong Kong at various stages, this is a very serious horse who rates clearly above true G1 level as a sprinter on a world wide scale, he has good tactical speed and his racing style will see him able to take up a perfect position either leading if there is a lack of early pace or from a tracking position behind the leaders with equal effect. Shapes as a very serious hope in this race. Watch that last run in Syngapore here….(Youtube)

Kings Apostle – G2 winner at Ascot 3 back over Diabolical by a neck over 6f, last start finished a close up 2nd to Utmost respect at G2 level at York over 6f, seems to have come back this prep OK and form ref through Diabolical from the end of last prep puts it 4l below Sacred Kingdom here. G2 quality sprinter who is unlikely to hit a new career peak this prep but is every chance of repeating the Diabolical form ref again this prep, minor place claims in this race.

Kingsgate Native – lightly raced type who in 2007 won against older horses at Group 1 level over 5f as a 2yo at York defeating Desert Lord by 1.7l, franked that form last season winning this race by 1.7l defeating War Artist , Sir Gerry and Takeover Target as a 3yo, being a lightly raced 4yo now is subject to minor inmprovement again this time in work, form references through War Artist and Takeover Target in winning this race last year put it just behind Sacred Kingdom but ahead of the others mentioned above, the most realistic danger to Sacred Kingdom assessed in market order so far.

Takeover Target – now a non runner

Ialysos – won 7 from 7 in Greece on sand and ran some very quick times over 5-7f before shipping to the UK and put in the care of Luca Camani, won at 1st UK start last time out at Listed level over 5f at Haydock, form out of that race suggests at best is up to winning at G3 level or a weak G2 with minor improvement still likely to come from that 1st up effort, not that badly bred by Nunthorpe winner So Factual out of a Polish Precedent mare but definitely not a true G1 looking pedigree by any sorts.

Scenic Blast – has really come of age this season winning twice at Group 1 level over 5f and 6f both times down the straight at Flemington, last start won the Newmarket defeating a strong field including Northern Meteor by 1.5l back in 4th, form ref through that line back to Takeover Target on his Sydney 1st up win suggests Takeover Target on its best form has a length on it, well bred by hot Australian based deceased stallion Scenic who is a son of Sadler’s Wells that won the Dewhurst in 1998, on best current form is right in this as a minor winning chance

Lesson In Humility – last start won at Group 3 level in Ireland over 6f by 1.7l over San Sicharia on good to firm going, subjecto minor improvement again on that win but form out of the race suggests it is no more than an average G3 form race, on that basis easily below the level required to win here.

Bushranger – 1st up this season was 4th to Utmost Respect over 6f on heavy going at the Curragh, prefers firm ground and was a dual G1 winner last season as a Juvenile winning the Prix Morny and Middle Park, both those races now look good strong juvenile G1 form refs, back on firmer ground is likely to improve dramatically on its 1st up run, if it trains on as expected it is capable of winning G1s as a 3yo being a dual G1 winning 2yo, solid claims.

PREDICTED FINISHING ORDER & ASSESSED ODDS

1st. Sacred Kingdom
2nd. Bushranger
3rd. Kingsgate Native

Sacred Kingdom is seen as the clear top elect as he ticks all the boxes, form references stand up, he is superbly bred for a sprinting pedigree and he carries the hottest turf sprinting form in the world at the moment and he was considered a brilliant Australian bred sprinting juvenile which puts him 2-3l above a horse like Choisir. We have him assessed at 3.50.

Bushranger on exposed form and scope for improvement looks the best of the locals and has drifted out somewhat and at 35.00 on the exchanges is hard to refuse betting on.

Elusive Wave can win the battle of the Guineas winners

Yeats lights up Royal Ascot

Yeats lights up Royal Ascot

For a full preview of Friday at Royal Ascot from Racing Diary- click here

We saw  the transformation of a champion into a legend as well as a huge gamble landed, yesterday. Lets hope for another good day today.

So three days down, now two to go. In many ways the Coronation Stakes (3.45) is the best race of the week, it certainly is the race of the day, with a quality field of 3 year-old fillies. Again won the Irish 1000 Guineas, Ghannaati won the Newmarket 1000 Guineas, Rainbow View was last years champion filly and French training sensation Jean-Claude Rouget saddles French Guineas winner Elusive Wave. I see this as a match between the two Guineas winners. Ghanaati looks a really good filly but I will take Elusive Wave at the prices. I will be laying Rainbow View who hated the ground at Newmarket and will be on a similar surface today.

The 3.05 is a decent Group two for three year old colts and geldings in which Black Bear Island is favourite and runs after a really poor show at Epsom where he didn’t handle the track. Plenty of Derby also rans in this race but I am going for one who didn’t run at Epsom in Native Ruler. He was going well in the Dante before being short of room and at the early prices is a worthy each-way bet for a trainer who is overdue a Royal Ascot winner.

Wesley Ward has had two winners with two year-olds so far and at the start of the week he said that Aegean was his best horse. He has proved that his 2 year-olds are ahead of the European team and should be noted particularly given what has been seen so far. I must side with Aegean though the draw is a worry, I guess we will see if there really is a draw bias or not. With early speed Aegean may be able to overcome the draw and make it a third win for the American team.
