Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary

I wrote on Twitter today that the word of the week is Crisis! The Commonwealth games, cricket, snooker and football finances are all in crisis. Thankfully there are no crises in horseracing, in fact we can look forward to and excellent weekend of racing at Ascot.

Thursdays free horse racing tips……

4:00 Pontefract, High Office, Win. Once again and Northern weekday race meeting should be a happy hunting ground for Richard Fahey and Paul Hanagan who team up with High Office who was very easy winner at Yarmouth last week. Despite a six pounds penalty I think he can defy that, with the assistance of the season’s leading jockey to record a quick double in the trainers colours. High Office is my best bet of the day.

4:30 Pontefract, Tiger Webb, Win. Henry Cecil has enjoyed a good season, which is not over yet! Tiger Webb is probably not one of the leading lights at Warren Place but is a well bred type of who has shaped with promise on his two career starts to date, finishing second on both occasions. This is probably not the strongest of maidens and I take Tiger Webb to get off the mark at the third time of asking.

Good luck!

Mondays Free Horseracing Tips, 30 August

Bank Holiday action on Monday. It is going to be a busy day and a possible minefield for punters. here are your free horseracing tips for Bank Monday.

Free Horseracing Tips

Free Horseracing Tips

My main bet on monday will be at Ripon, in the two year-old trophy….

3:35 Ripon, Mayson, Win. Mayson is a course and distance winner and has the best form in the book. He was fourth in the Molecomb stakes which he then followed up with a confidence boosting win over course and distance. Richard Fahey has a few good ones in his stable and rates this one highly. Black Moth is probably the biggest danger with the in form Kieren Fallon. Mayson is my best bet of the day.

That is my only bet of the day, the best advice is to take it easy today!

3:40 Ripon Off Chance can provide the white-hot Tim Easterby operation with another winner at Ripon. The North Yorkshire handler is enjoying a vintage May, and looks to have unearthed a seriously progressive contender for the Nick Wilmot-Smith Memorial Handicap. Off Chance has shot up the ratings over the last 12 months, having only finished out of the frame three times in 11 starts. She is also twice a scorer at Ripon, which is always a positive. Further cause for optimism arrived at Ascot last time when she stayed on for third behind two smart rivals in Alsace Lorraine and First City. Although she is 7lb higher than her last winning mark at Ripon last August, Off Chance is clearly on a steep upward trajectory and looks poised to launch a bold bid.

3:10 Ripon Yashrid could have been let in lightly for the Weatherbys Bank Handicap. Michael Jarvis’ three-year-old makes his handicap debut off a mark of 69, which could emerge as being extremely generous. Although he had hardly set the world alight in three maidens, Yashrid at least hinted at some ability earlier this month at Brighton. The son of Rahy stayed on resolutely to finish third over a mile, suggesting for all the world this extra furlong will be ideal. He clearly goes well on fast ground and is, intriguingly, Philip Robinson’s only ride of the day.

3:50 Chepstow Advertise. It should pay to side with Advertise in the Absolute Recruitment Celebration Handicap at Chepstow. Andrew Balding’s four-year-old was given too much to do by an amateur rider at Salisbury last time when finishing like a bullet to take fifth over seven furlongs. Seemingly on the right side of the handicapper, the step up to a mile and the appointment of Jimmy Fortune should make all the difference in a poor race.

4:50 Chepstow Il Portico is still fairly unexposed and can unlock previously undiscovered potential in the Lindley Catering Handicap over a mile and a half.

4:00 Lingfield Sheer Force can power home at Lingfield. William Knight’s three-year-old essentially had little chance against Cansili Star over course and distance earlier this month, but still shaped with credit in second. It will be a huge surprise if there is a rival of that calibre lurking in the betdaq.co.uk Handicap. Any market move would be of obvious significance ahead of Sir Mozart’s run in division one of the Henry Streeter Handicap. Barney Curley’s representative stayed on for third at Wolverhampton last time and makes an interesting step back up to a mile.

6:50 Huntingdon Sarahs Gift can maintain his rise through the ranks by winning the Betfair Handicap Chase at Huntingdon. Handled with exemplary care by Lawney Hill, the seven-year-old turned in a resilient display to land a small pot at Fakenham in April. He goes particularly well on fast ground and is good enough to counteract a 6lb rise here.

Through The Card, Free Horseracing Tips for Tuesday…..

CHEPSTOW: 2.20 Rojo Boy, 2.50 Stef And Stelio, 3.20 Set To Go, 3.50 Advertise, 4.20 The Hague, 4.50 Il Portico

Tuesdays Horseracing Tips, 1st September

It’s Tuesday and for those who have the back to work blues, then I have a couple of bets that should blow those away. There are, for a Tuesday, a couple of decent races today which have attracted highly rated decent horses.

There are three meetings on Tuesday in the UK and over in Ireland they are racing at laytown on the sand, it’s not quite like Southwell, they run on the beach and is a unique and fun to watch fixture.

On the beach at Laytown on Tuesday...

On the beach at Laytown on Tuesday...

4.00 Ripon Tawaabb, Win

Tawaabb (4.00) won a Leicester maiden in May and has been running much better company than he faces today since that day at Leicester. Third to Radiohead in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and a creditable run in the group one July Stakes at Newmarket last time out should be form more than good enough to land this conditions event . A big drop in grade is a huge plus and Tawaabb is the best bet of the day.

4.20 Leicester- Dandy Man, Win

Godolphin may be disappointed with Dandy Man’s (4.20) results since they acquired him, but there is no denying his claims in this conditions event. Rarely seen outside of the top sprint contests Dandy Man will find this drop in grade to his liking. This looks a straight match with Dandy Nicholls’ Peace Offering but Godolphin and Dettori (here I go again) are in great form of late and I think Dandy Man in a very good bet. Usually seen on a Saturday Dandy Man should be luckier on a Tuesday!

Bank Holiday Monday, Horseracing Tips, 31st August

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

Its a busy day of racing, to say the least with no fewer than seven UK meetings and two in Ireland. The action will come think and fast and I advise caution and very selective betting on this bank holiday Monday.

Bank holiday cards are rarely strong and today is definitely about quantity and getting people out racing, which can only be good for the sport. There are some very good bets to be struck, if you look in the right places.

3.45 Epsom- Firebet, Win (NAP)

Firebet (3.45) has had a tremendous season for Richard Fahey who himself has enjoyed a prolific campaign and is still firing on all cylinders. Following three wins Firebet was thrown in with the big boys in the Gordon Stakes where he was second to the very smart Harbinger. This is a drop in class with the race looking like a match with Tranquil Tiger. As a three year-old Firebet gets thirteen pounds from Henry Cecil’s horse and for me Firebet is a good thing here, he is definitely the bet of the day.

3.35 Ripon- Stargaze, Win

A decent two year-old listed race is run at Ripon where Stargaze (3.35) sets a very high standard. This is a drop in class for Andrew Balding’s son of Oasis Dream who ran third behind the very smart Dick Turpin in a Goodwood group three last time. There are a few unexposed runners in the field, but Stargaze has the form in the book and the class to land this race for a very inform stable.

Delegator wins on Godolphin Debut

Delegator wins on Godolphin Debut

4.15 Warwick- Khor Dubai, Win

With the risk of sounding like a stuck record, both Godolphin and Frankie Dettori are in great form, as we witnessed at Goodwood on Saturday. Khor Dubai (4.15) was a very smart two year-old and looked to be back on track last time out at Kempton. Officially rated as the best horse in the race Frankie Dettori can make his trip to Warwick worthwhile by riding a winner and entertaining the bank holiday crowd to a trademark flying dismount.

Remember, caution is the watchword for a busy bank holiday and hopefully we will finish in profit with what I think are three decent bets!

York was fantastic, there is no better racecourse in the world. It is a special place and I have decided to have my ashes scattered on the Knavesmire. Speaking of the Ashes, Thursday was a poor display by some England batsmen but what a brilliant display in the field on friday! Come on England!

Saturday is a pretty decent day and here is what I will be backing;

5.10 Chester- Saga de Tercey, 2 Pts Win

This is the best bet of the day at Chester. A bumper win was followed by a maiden win. Then he was beaten in a ladies amateur race, finishing second, before winning a handicap with a proper jockey on last time. You can ignore that ladies race, I just strike them out of the form book and would rather give money to charity than bet in one of those. Neil Callan was on last time for a good win at Catterick and Shane Kelly gets the leg up with only four pounds extra to carry. I fancy the Swinbank horse, big style!

7.15 Bath- Golden Destiny, 2 Pts Win

Two wins means this one is chasing a hat-tick. Still looks well weighted to me and with Seb Sanders on top he will have his mind made up for him. Only 5 runners and I think we have a good one here, so another 2 points win. I would also advise a double, which you can do with a Betfair Multiple.

Good Luck.

I got an email asking if this was a picture of me, thanks, but NO!

Saturdays Horseracing Tips, 15th August

Carl Harris, Tipster

By Carl Harris

Its Saturday and there is some excellent racing at Newbury, Newmarket and Ripon who stage their biggest day of the year. The William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap is the big betting race of the day, a very complex puzzle to solve, but we will have a go with a very solid each-way bet.

Remember to take the early prices – get best odds guaranteed!

3.55 Ripon- Valery Borzov, Win and Place

Dandy Nicholls could have run a hat full of runners, at a track very local to his North Yorkshire base but has settled for only three of the twenty that go to post. The one to focus on is Valery Borzov (3.55) who is a cracking each-way bet, in my view at least. He goes well here, having finished runner-up to Tajneed last year and has blistering early speed (as we saw at York) that could serve him well at Ripon. He showed he was back to form with a decent run at Goodwood, in the Stewards Cup, finishing sixth. In this company with such early dash I think the each-way terms and 12/1 to win is a very solid bet in a very difficult race for punters.

Newbury where Azmeel runs in the first race

Newbury where Azmeel should win for Ryan Moore

2.05 Newbury- Azmeel, Win (NAP)

Azmeel (2.05) was one of those horses that took my breath away with his debut at Sandown in July. He has that ability to inject a race winning turn of foot and displayed up the Sandown hill is even more impressive. Ryan Moore takes the ride on a colt with what is now commonly termed ‘plenty of fancy entries’ who I think will land this listed Singer Stakes before moving on to bigger prizes. He looks a serious colt who is the subject of bullish reports. Azmeel is my best bet of the day.

6.00 Lingfield- Diggeratt, Win

No prizes for putting up Diggeratt (6.00) up but he looks the outstanding bet on the all-weather on Saturday. Since being dropped in to claiming company Richard Fahey’s filly has won her last two starts and can land the hat-trick. Clearly the booking on Frankie Dettori is significant and is a statement of the confidence that connections have about her chances. She is well in on official figures in a race that will take little winning. My only hope is that we can get some value in the price, but it would make a nonsense of the form book if Diggeratt failed to win.

Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Saturday, 15th August

  • 3.55 Ripon- Valery Borzov, win and place
  • 2.05 Newbury- Azmeel, win (NAP)
  • 6.00 Lingfield- Diggeratt, win

Today is much more like it! Some decent racing with pattern races and Newbury and a very decent sprint handicap, The William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon which is where I will be, supporting racing in my native Yorkshire.

Football is also back this weekend, and I can recommend Barry’s Premier League Preview, I know Barry makes a good few quid betting of the footie.

So let’s get stuck in and where better to kick off than the big race at Ripon, a really competitive event and I am going to have a win and place bet, on Betfair, on Ishetoo and I think it will be Frankie’s day at Newbury.

3.55 Ripon- Ishetoo, Win and Place

Fresh from a good run at Ascot Alan Dickman has done the right thing by booking Jamie Kyne who takes five pounds off Ishetoo (3.55). In a race where margins are extremely slim, I am of the opinion that this is a shrewd move and gives backers a very strong positive feeling. Beaten less than a length at Ascot the handicapper has only put him up one pound, and the five pounds is so valuable here. Paying four places each-way at 16/1 we have some proper value here.

My best bet of the day is at Newbury where I hope we see Frankie doing a flying dismount, fresh from his five winners on Friday.

Kitewood can with the Group Three at Newbury for Frankie Dettori

Kitewood can with the Group Three at Newbury for Frankie Dettori

2.35 Newbury- Kitewood, Win

The big race of the day, pattern race wise, is the Geoffrey Freer Stakes (group 3) where Godolphin can continue their fantastic form by landing this with the three year-old Kitewood (2.35). He has a handy 10 pounds weight allowance, due to his age, over the field which could be the deciding factor and with Frankie Dettori on board punters have the top man on side here.  Frankie gets some stick for his antics, but if you don’t like it then you need to lump it! Racing needs characters like Dettori who can bring more people in to the game. He is a showman, so what? He is a fantastic jockey and likes to have fun in what he does. He is one of the best we have seen and those who like to moan, then go and become an undertaker or better still just sut -up! Kitewood is a decent price too and with that weight allowance is a great bet for this decent race.

Get on with the Professor and you can now get a £50 Free Bet from Betfair..

Remember I do not do Sundays so I will be back on Monday. Have a good weekend!

Rain Could Cause Major Problems for Weekend Racing….

All Weather would be a good idea...

All Weather would be a good idea...

Rain…

It’s tropical, sadly that’s the rain not the sunshine. Friday’s meeting at Pontefract is subject to an inspection….

Update: Friday Evening (5.15pm)
Newmarket- raining – soft going
Hamilton- No rain, good to firm in places
Pontefract- passed inspection but heavy rain.

I would not be backing at Pontefract…..

Friday evening’s meeting at Pontefract must pass a precautionary inspection at 4.30pm after a deluge of rain in West Yorkshire. The ground had been described as good prior to a spell of very heavy showers that are becoming more persistent with even more rain forecast.

“At the moment we are totally raceable but we have more rain forecast,” said Richard Hammill, assistant clerk of the course. “They originally said between 10 and 15 millimetres would fall this afternoon but they’ve now said we could get anywhere between 10 and 50.”We could take 10 but not 50.

Redcar on Sunday is already in doubt…

Sunday’s meeting at Redcar is in doubt due to a heavy rain, with an inspection called for 12 noon on Saturday. The Cleveland coastal track has been hit by 50 millimetres of rain since Thursday night, and more rain has been forecast.

“We’ve had a total of 50 millimetres overnight and today,” said acting clerk of the course John Sanderson. “We had 35mm by 7.30 this morning, then another 25mm by one o’clock, and it’s still been raining and there’s another 15mm forecast tomorrow.”

The ground at Newbury is softening for the big meeting on Saturday and with plenty of rain about its a nightmare for punters!

Ripon…

Saturday’s meeting at Ripon will need to pass a 7.30am precautionary inspection due to the threat of further showers. The North Yorkshire circuit has been hit by 54 millimetres of rain in less than 24 hours – and more is forecast.

“We are raceable at present, but there is more rain forecast,” said clerk of the course James Hutchinson. “It is a precautionary inspection because we’d be able to race today but if we get a lot more we could have problems. The forecasters are saying we could get as much as half an inch. It’s been incredible, it started raining at around 7pm on Thursday and we’ve had over 50 millimetres of rain.”

Monday’s Horseracing Tips…6th July

Ahern - A Ripon Double?

Ahern - A Ripon Double?

I am still in awe of Sea The Stars, but living in Yorkshire I was delighted to hear that his next destination could be the International at York, a date I definitely will not miss. I made a vow on Saturday to go to his next run, to see this Champion in the flesh. I was thinking Ireland would be a long way but 12 miles to York will do just fine!

Monday’s Bets…

Strangely for a Monday there are quite a few decent bets to get stuck into today. I will be at Ripon which is a picturesque Yorkshire track where I have done pretty well over the years.

Ripon….

Acquisition (7.50) is the best bet on the card in my view with Henry Cecil booking Eddie Ahern for the filly’s handicap debut. A mark of 74 looks fair following a maiden win where she was not at all overly extended to win.  It was a very poor race but her breeding suggests she should be better than this grade and I suspect she may be well handicapped.

Eddie Ahern carries our hopes aboard Eastern Warrior (9.20) who is hoping to score after hitting the crossbar three times in succession. As a three year old he gets a handy weight allowance from chief market rival Nisaal which could be the decisive factor. John Hills’ gelding should really win this race. I will also be laying Nisaal at a price that is short enough to do so.

Musselburgh…

I will have one bet elsewhere, which is the prolific Argentine (3.45) at Musselburgh. I have owned a few horses but would love one with the heart that this fellow has shown in winning four of this last six races. Carrying a penalty he can confirm form with Racoon and should have the measure of hat-trick seeking Secret Venue who is running off a four pound higher mark.

Mondays Best Bets

3.45 Musselburgh- Argentine, win
7.50 Ripon- Acquisition, win
9.20 Ripon- Eastern Warrior, win

To Lay…

9.20 Ripon- Nisaal, Lay
