Exclusive to Racing Diary, The Professor of the Form Book has a 9/1 Each-Way bet for you….

Horse: Cumana Bay

Race: 1.30 Newmarket

Bet: 2pts Win (Stan James), 2pts Place (Betfair).

Price: 9/1 (Stan James)

A glance at Cumana Bay’s form figures tell you that she is a consistent filly. But getting deeper into the form tells you that at a best price of 9/1 we have a very solid bet. We have 16 runners in the race and I am anticipating a non-runner so I recommend that the place bet be placed on Betfair, where we will get paid on the first four even if there are non runners. If you get better than 9/1 [10.0] in the Betfair win market then place the win part there too.

Dropping back to 7f following a good win here at HQ over 1m last time Richard Hannon, in the absence of Richard Hughes, has called on the services of Jimmy Fortune. Her mark of only 4lb’s higher than when scoring is reasonable and I think she has a huge chance. More importantly so does her trainer, Richard Hannon, who says

“We start the week with Cumana Bay in the fillies handicap. She has been on a roll this season, with two wins and three places from five outings, and she beat a filly (Charlotte Point) going for a hat-trick when she won at Newmarket last time. That was a mile, but she won over seven furlongs at Newbury, so the trip is not a problem and she has only gone up 4lb.”

The key statement there is “he has only gone up 4lb” which is trainer speak for saying he thinks his horse is well handicapped! That is exactly what I think and will be very surprised if she is out of the frame, the first four on Betfair, but has a huge chance at 9/1 of winning.

Good Luck, The Professor.

Falmouth Stakes…

Having looked at the Falmouth stakes may I say I wholly agree that Goldikova is the stand out bet of the day at the early price on Betfair.

If your lucky number is 7 then the 7th of the 7th is a good day for you. Sadly though the racing on Tuesday can be nicely summed up as the famine before the feast that awaits us for the rest of the week. The July Cup meeting at Newmarket kicks off tomorrow, then it’s the John Smith’s Cup on Saturday.

It gets better from Wednesday, much better….

Just look at the race card on Wednesday at Newmarket!

1:30 E.b.f. Hotel Chocolat Fillies’ Handicap (3yo, Class 2, 7f, 16 runners)

2:00 Totesport.com Heritage Handicap (3yo, Class 2, 6f, 20 runners)

2:35 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes (fillies’ Group 2) (2yo, Class 1, 6f, 10 runners)

3:10 Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes (fillies’ Group 1) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m, 8 runners)

3:45 Mertoun Paddocks E.b.f. Maiden Stakes (2yo, Class 2, 7f, 15 runners)

4:20 Turftv Maiden Stakes (3yo, Class 3, 1m 2f, 13 runners)

5:30 Home Of Racing Handicap (3yo+, Class 3, 1m, 13 runners)

Don’t blow your cash on the moderate cards on Tuesday! I will not be getting involved on the flat today but luckily there is a jumps card at Uttoxeter.

Over the Jumps..

Regular readers will know that the first thing I do is look at Tony McCoy’s mounts and he is at the Midlands course for three rides, the best of which is Charmahal (5.50) who I think has an excellent chance. Just beaten at Southwell the front two were some 10 lengths clear of the field a performance for which only a four pounds rise in the weights looks reasonable. On the down side he can be a tricky ride but we have McCoy on our side which is a huge positive and could well be the deciding factor.

Any Given Day (7.50) looks the banker of the day and is definitely one to double up with Charmahal. An easy course and distance winner last time the grey gelding should have no problems in conceding weight to all his novice rivals. The price may not be to everyone’s liking but I will be backing this one, on a day when lets be honest there is not much else to get involved with.

Time to Make Hay in the Sunshine…

Bit of a disaster yesterday, not least at Worcester which ended in farce because of a lack of available water, at a course that spent month submerged by flood water, you have to laugh! That said if horse’s welfare was in question then the right decision was made and everyone lives to fight another day. Is’s a big weekend ahead with the Eclipse and the Steward’s Cup to look forward to.

Over Jumps…

I am back on the McCoy bandwagon again today, which makes its way to Perth for three rides. His first is at 2.20 where he teams up with Pengana who has by far the best form and should win with the minimum of fuss at a price that reflects that scenario. However, Aggies Lad (2.50) is a much more sporting price and is one I will be backing to follow up on a decisive and impressive win over fences at Killarney. Tony Martin likes a gamble, but also knows how to handle a decent horse and really places his horses well. The booking of McCoy is a statement of intent that cannot be ignored. McCoy could complete a treble, and a double for Martin, with Another Ambition (4.20), but this looks a trappy race that I am going to sidestep.

On the Flat…

This evening, on the flat, my best bet of the day is a bit shorter than I had hoped but should provide a straightforward win. Stateside (9.20) hails from the excellent Richard Fahey yard and should defy a six pounds penalty to land the hat-trick. Stateside will be running off higher marks in the near future and this is not a great race so it’s time to make hay, or indeed money, whilst the sun shines.

McCoy the man to follow on Wednesday

It was a great day for us yesterday with all three bets winning at pretty decent odds too. What was particularly pleasing was that the winners came in a maiden, a claimer then a handicap with my bet of the day coming home at an unbelievable SP of 7-2.

I though Holland gave They All laughed a bit too much to do and was lucky to get him home, but he did. I The sun was shining and the goods times flowed. More of the same today would do very nicely, I think you’ll agree!
Wednesday looks a difficult day and I am turning to the jumps, at Worcester for a my bets. More about that below.

To lay…

On the flat there are a couple of favourites worth to taking on, but their prices are a bit high for a serious investment. At Carlisle Joe Jo Star (4.10) has done nothing but improve under both codes for the excellent Richard Fahey yard, but the handicapper may have his measure with a 13 pounds rise in the weights kicking in today. This looks competitive and I think Joe Jo Star will get beaten in a race full of live chances.

On Monday we laid Bataleur (9.10) who I said has been kept very busy by Mick Channon and today he is out again at Bath for another late evening run and I will be laying him yet again. Poor horse is earning his keep, but this looks a better chance than Monday though.

To back…

So to the jumps, and I will follow Tony McCoy who is simply the best jumps jockey of all time. Day in day out he turns in the winners, riding doubles and trebles, never giving up whether it be a seller at Fakenham or a big race at Cheltenham. As a punter I just love having McCoy on side. He kicks off the Worcester card with Factotum (2.20) who should follow up his impressive Uttoxeter victory by landing this novice hurdle.

I also think that the same connections will win the next on the card, a novice chase, with Native City (2.55) who has run well previously in handicaps. Running in novice company for the first time he brings by far the best form to the table in what is a weak race and should complete a double for the Champion jockey.

The Talking Horse…

I will also be backing McCoy’s mount in the last as I have heard that Budwiser (5.05) is a decent sort and is fancied to win today. There is no form to go on here, but the booking of McCoy is significant, and with good reports forthcoming this may be one to play up our winnings with a small bet on an unraced prospect.

Let’s hope for a repeat of yesterday!

Wednesday’s Bets at Worcester

2.20 Factotum, win

2.55 Native City, win

Two Favourites that Offer Value on Thursday…

24 hours to the Oaks at Epsom

Not a great day, certainly when looking ahead to Friday and Saturday at Epsom which kicks off a really exciting weekend of racing and two classics. Although there is plenty of racing on offer with flat jumps and all-weather action today, it looks pretty run of the mill. We have lost Wetherby which has been called off because of firm ground and a broken irrigation system. The course has not had a good few years and looks to be suffering in a way that is damaging the once good reputation that the West Yorkshire course had.

On the Flat…

Our first stop is Lingfield for a decent bet in the opener on Ravi River (2.20) who makes his debut in selling company for Jim Boyle, whom he rejoins from the Tom Dascombe yard. The five year-old gelding has an official handicap mark of 80, which gives him plenty, a minimum of 10 pounds, in hand against this weak looking field on a surface he seems to love. It may appear a strange decision to run such a highly rated horse in a seller but these connections are not afraid to do so in search of a winner. I remember hoping one of theirs would get beaten once so I could claim it, it won and went on to win more races. No worries that this is a seller today!

I have priced up Ravi River at a shorter price than the 2.3 he is on Betfair this morning. I suggest you back him now…

Having won a handicap off 75 3 runs ago he should be too good for this lot. It looks like Jim Boyle is looking to get a confidence boosting win under his belt at the basement grade for owners who have plenty of horses in the stable. They have done it before and he looks a good thing to me!

Over Jumps…

Any Given Day (5.50) at Uttoxeter looks a very good bet at the prices and looks one to follow following an impressive debut win over hurdles at Kelso a couple of weeks ago. The gelding looks a decent recruit from the flat (Simcock trained) and will relish the fast going on which he has winning form on the flat. The change of codes and a move to the Donald McCain yard looks to have done the trick and he could prove to be much better than these opponents today. Although favourite in the betting, I would suggest that the current price offers value given the expected improvement from that first orun. I expect Any Given Day to win easily and I would urge you to take an early price!

Thursdays Bets

Hexham on a Summer’s Day..You Can’t Beat It..

I was amazed at the drift yesterday of American Art- I got on a 5-1, I was even more amazed by the in-running prices that were being laid in the early stages of the race at Cartmel. Despite that American Art trotted up and landed us a right touch!

Not so good today, a usual Tuesday. I will be sticking with jumping and taking it easy today. Hexham is a picturesque Northumberland track which is like the Arctic in winter but gorgeous in the summer. The going is good to firm, but our horses will relish the surface and play to our strengths.

There are two horses that take my eye today, both of whom were very good winners last time out. The first is Harry Flashman (7.35) who steps up in trip after winning impressively last time out, turning over a long odds on favourite in the process, at Hexham. The trip will certainly be no problem, he was second over todays course and distance on his penultimate start. Clearly he likes Hexham, he has had 3 career runs which have yielded 2 wins and a second place. Harry Flashman is a worthy favourite today.

I think Harry Flashman has the beating of all his rivals in this average looking novice hurdle contest but Michael Hourigan always deserves respect, especially when sending horses over to England and more so on a Tuesday at Hexham. Toby Jug would be the only worry, but he has not shown much to date. The ground will certainly pose no problems and his regular jockey rides. It all adds up to a winner in my book!

Then the very next race..Graze On and On (8.05) should complete a quick double for us. John Quinn is running this 4 year-old filly quickly following a very good win last week at Towcester. That was a conditional jockeys event so she has no penalty to carry and should prove to be a very nicely handicapped horse tonight. She is stepping up in trip, but there is no worries on that score, she gave the impression, up the Towcester hill, that she is a tough staying type. With the Quinn yard in such good form and Dougie Costello taking the ride, Graze On and On should complete her hat-trick at Hexham and have us singing late in to the night. The ground is ideal for this decent filly who is my NAP of the Day!

Bank Holiday Bankers..Flat, Jumps and Sticky Toffee Pudding…

There are 47 races at 7 meetings in the UK and Ireland today with plenty, too many, betting opportunities. The 6 UK meetings are all on the flat except the excellent card at Cartmel, which I can thoroughly recommend as a great day out. I can also recommend the sticky toffee pudding that they claim was invented there, you must visit the Sticky Toffee Pudding shop if you go to Cartmel.

Over Jumps…

Summer jumping can throw up strange results on the hard surfaces you usually find but today there is some juice in the going at Carmel which is spot on and it should be a good day for punters. Venitia Williams has had a brilliant year and is definitely on the way to the very top. Today she introduces a really nice type in American Art (3.00) for a big owner over hurdles who is rated 88 on the flat. Oliver Greenall who, as an amateur, takes off 5 pounds and is very good value for that allowance takes the ride today. The highest rated horse in this race has a mark of only 114, from which American Art gets a total of 19 pounds and you would be pretty disappointed if American Art cannot win today on his hurdles debut.

On The Flat…

On the flat my bet of the day is Perfect Silence (3.15) who makes her seasonal reappearance at Leicester. The 4 year-old has won both her starts in handicap company and should be fresh after a 7 month break. She last raced at Windsor, off a mark of 68 when Eddie Ahern was aboard and the pair should complete her hat-trick today from a 4 pounds higher mark. Both wins came from Clive Cox switching her to sprinting and this progressive daughter of Dansili looks one to follow. I expected, given that there are only 8 runners, that she would be shorter than the current price, so a bit of value is to be had in the Betfair win market.

Speaking of value , there is plenty to be had with Gibb River (5.40) at Chepstow. Michael Jarvis and Philip Robinson team up with the, currently, odds on favourite Dhushan who has 1 run, and a moderate one at that, to his name in a Newbury maiden. Jarvis maidens are frequently over bet and Gibb River is selected in preference to Dhushan on the basis of experience and the ability shown last time out which earned him a mark of 83 for handicaps. Peter Chapple-Hyam’s colt has conditions to suit and should take all the beating. The odds on price looks to be more a result of the stable’s reputation than the form and Dhushan is exactly the sort of odds on shot that I like to Lay. I will be laying Michael Jarvis’ horse at these odds today, for sure.

Saturday promises to be yet another fantastic day at Punchestown, as the Punchestown Festival enters it’s fifth day.

For today’s tips I have decided to simply advise the following…

Back Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins at Punchestown!

It has certainly been the strategy to follow so far as they have notched up an astonishing 10 winners, so far!

Lets see if we can find you a few more winners on Saturday, Punchestown racecard. You can certainly ensure you are a winner and are in profit simply by opening an account with BoyleSports- get £200 of Free Bets.

Saturday at Punchestown

Punchestown- 1.10

Dear Villez was a winner at Cheltenham in Novemeber and a repeat of that standard will be enough to see him go close here. Davy Russell had a big winner yesterday and can continue his good run.

Punchestown- 1.45

Serpentaria is the first Mullins and Walsh hotpot of the day. Winner of its last 3 races Sperpentaria can continue the run today.

Punchestown- 2.20

Hunters chase- whatch the market.

Punchestown- 2.55

Mourad is the next Walsh / Mullins good thing of the day. Third in The Triumph Hurdle Mourad should frank the form of that race and notch up yet another Punchestown win for the deadly duo.

Punchestown- 3.30

Wide open and the possibility of an English winner with Alan King and Robert Thornton teaming up with Nenuphar Collonge. Third at Cheltenham, this horse may have the class to take this race today.

Punchestown 4.05

This is as open as any race this week and when in doubt follow the Punchestown formula, Mullins and Walsh- Sesenta fits the bill here.

I have no idea about the last two races at Punchestown!

More Punchestown Festival Tips for Friday…

It is day four of the excellent Punchestown Festival or the Mullins / Walsh show as it has become.

The pair team up again with today with two outstanding hurdlers in the shape of Quevega (5.30) and Mikael Dhaguenet (6.05) in the Punchestown feature races.

The latter looks nailed on but Quevega has to overcome top quality opposition to win.

We found you a couple of big winners yesterday and hope to do so again on this, the fourth day of The Punchestown.

Punchestown – 2.45
A Hunters Chase, that I can not possibly begin to know anything about. My tip here is to follow the market, which is always the best guide to these races. especially at the Punchestown Festival.

Punchestown- 4.20
Walsh and Mullins are likely to attract all the money with Ballytrim, but look out for any market move for the Tony Martin runner Hold the Pin. I would advise a small bet on Ballytrim, unless Hold the Pin is strongly supported.

Punchestown – 4.55
Again Walsh and Mullins are prominent but I would oppose Equus Maximus with Tranquil Sea who I think has the better chance. A very hard race, but Tranquil Sea for me.

Punchestown- 5.30
Now we get serious! The Grade One Champion Hurdle where Punjabi seeks to complete a historic double. Despite the quality of opposition I am firmly behind Quevega who won the Mare’s Hurdle at Cheltenham in breath taking style. Predictably Walsh rides for, you guessed it, Willie Mullins on this Mare.

Punchestown- 6.05
Mikael Dhaguenet is the best novice I have seen and should win this, for yes, Mullins and Walsh, albeit at a skinny price. You can not oppose the Ballymoore Properties winner.

Punchestown- 6.40
Copper Bleu could provide a rare English winner for Philip Hobbs, but faces a tough test. A competitive race but Copper Bleu has the best form in the book.

Punchestown- 7.05 and 7.45
I can not offer much in the way of insight, other than that which brought us a winner yesterday, Willie Mullins in bumpers!

I hope that you have another good day. It certainly will be a good day if you open a BoyleSports account and get £200 of Free Bets…BoyleSports will also pay better terms than most bookmakers on Each-Way bets in Big Handicaps.

I am really enjoying the Punchestown Festival and have had lots of interest in the site for people looking for tips for Punchestown. I have already detailed that the bet of the day at Punchestown is Forpadydeplasterer.

I will have a run through the rest of today’s Punchestown card and see if there are any winners to be had and find some decent tips for you at Punchestown Today.

First Race at Punchestown 3.45
A later start at 3.45 sees Tony McCoy making the trip to Punchestown and rides for J P McManus and Nicky Henderson aboard Ainama. This must be significant but that man Ruby Walsh has already attracted money on the Willie Mullins Jessie’s Dream. For me Ainama is an each-way price and a small bet Each Way is advised.

Punchestown 4.20
7-1 the field, not easy. If there is a move for Reisk Superman then that would be significant but there has been money this morning for Fred’s Benefit for Willie Mullins and you guessed it Ruby Walsh. I would advise a small bet on Fred’s Benefit.

Punchestown 4.55
A cross country race that Enda Bolger excells at and Nina Carberry has an excellent partnership with Gardre Champetre. They are a formidable combination and you can not oppose them in this event. Gardre Champetre is a strong bet in this special event.

Punchestown 5.30
I have already said that I think Fiveforthree is too short. Click Here for Daily Horseracing Tips. I think that Fair Along is a great bet Each Way. Willy Mullins and Ruby Walsh are the ones to follow at Punchestown but Fair Along is a great bet. Not much between them and a great value each way price.

Punchestown 6.05
I genuinely think this is a lottery. I would, if I had a couple of quid free to put on back Themoonandsixpence, the second string from the Mullins stable, but honestly I probably could not find the winner of this with half a dozen picks!

Punchestown 6.40
This is the race of the day for me and I have gone big on Forpadytheplasterer. Tatenen is one to take on and I think The Arkle Winner is a good thing today at Punchestown.

Punchestown 7.15
A flat race, Quel Espirit fits the bill here. It is now a rule that you follow Willie Mullins in Irish bumpers and this is one that looks a winner in the lucky last at Punchestown.
