Saturday’s Horseracing Tips on Bet365 Gold Cup Day

Kalahari King bids to Follow up his Aintree Win

Kalahari King bids to Follow up his Aintree Win

The 2008/2009 jumps season is all over bar the shouting. Paul Nicholls will be champion trainer again and Tony McCoy will be crowned Champion Jockey, for the 14th time in succession. But there is the small matter of the Bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase (3.10), which is the aforementioned shouting! Sandown stages a simply stunning day of racing, with top class flat and jumps racing. We are printing Our Premier Service Bets for you Free Today.

I think that Lacdoudal has a big chance of winning the race he won in 2006 for Philip Hobbs and can be backed at 10 in the Win Market on Betfair. Hoo La Baloo who has been in consistent but not sparkling form for Paul Nicholls is favourite. I think that Lacdoudal, who loves Sandown is a much better bet and will certainly oppose Hoo La Baloo. Tony McCoy is riding Hennessy off 10st 7lbs and could very well be the plunge horse of the day as the McCoy factor takes hold. For me Lacdoudal is running off a very fair mark, 12 pounds lower than his 2006 winning mark of 151. He is my idea of a solid each way bet. Check Out the special offers, including £200 of Free Bets offered by Bet365. The race is Live on Channel 4.

Sandown stage a fantastic mixed card, there are not enough of them in my opinion in the UK.  Kalahari King (2.35) will love the faster ground and should be suited by the track. Ferdy Murphy’s Arkle runner-up won by 8 lengths at Aintree last time out and Kalahari King looks a good thing to finish a great season with another commanding performance. The ground will see Kalahari King at his best and I expect him to win and to win in style. My bet of the Day is Kalahari King – Double Maximum Stakes (2.35 Sandown).

My P and L this week is in profit, primarily because of the lays, another of which was successful yesterday after being heavily supported. The one I would lay today is definitely Twist Magic (2.35) , against Kalahari King. Twist Magic has looked a shadow of his former self this season and although the better ground will suit him, it would take an enormous leap of faith to see him winning at Sandown. At 4.2 to Lay this is one well worth taking on. You need a Betfair account to Lay Horses to Lose.

The Sandown Card just gets better and better. On the flat there is a Group 2 and a Group 3 race, both full of quality. I really like the 3.45 race in which Paco Boy and Virtual make their season reappearances. Paco Boy is top class. A Group One Winner in France before not handling the surface at Nad Al Sheba he is reported to be in great form. He is the best horse in the race and Richard Hannon writing on his website says he is not contemplating defeat and Paco Boy is flying at home.

This is what Hannon has to say on his web-site

Hannon said:”After the Dubai trip, our original plan was to wait for the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 16, but this is a good prize in its own right, and with three weeks between the two races the timing is perfect.

“Paco Boy worked really well at home last Sunday and then again on Tuesday, and, though he was tired for a few days when we got back from Dubai, he is in great form again now. “The race at Sandown definitely looks within Paco Boy’s compass, and it would be very nice to put that Nad Al Sheba experience behind us and go to Newbury on a high rather than head for another Group 1 on a retrieving mission.”

Paco Boy will only run if the ground is suitable on Saturday.

Hannon, commenting on the Dubai trip said:”There were far too many minuses – no preperation race, the ground that was too firm, an outside draw and a distance which was always going to stretch Paco Boy. It might have been an all-expenses paid trip, but the entry fee was £53,000 and the prize money only went down to sixth, so, all in all, it was a very expensive lesson to learn.”

Paco Boy is a big bet for me and should show his class. Backing a Group 1 winner in a Group 2 has been a successful formula for me and Paco Boy should continue that trend.

I am hoping for a big day on Saturday and I hope that Kalahri King and Paco Boy are both winners at Sandown.

Summary For Saturday:

Sandown:
2.35 Kalahri King – Win
3.10 Lacdoudal- Each-Way Win, Twist Magic-Lay
3.45 Paco Boy – Win

Friday Horseracing Betting Tips…

Tameer to Stake Derby Claims

Tameer to Stake Derby Claims

Fistral Beach (7.55 Chepstow) has been a beaten favourite in each of his last 5 outings, all at short odds the latest of which was at 1-2. It is a brave man that backs Paul Nicholls’ horse to win today, currently available to back at evens in the win market. Fistral Beach is closely matched on form and official ratings with Alan King’s  China Gold. Fistral Beach must surely win today, but I am not inclined to let him carry any of my money.

The same connections, however, should have a winner in Chepstow’s opener with Hells Bay (2.00).  This one is a similar price to Fistral Beach but is a much more solid proposition and I will be backing this one.

The big race of the day is at Sandown, The Bet365 Group 3 Derby Classic Trial (2.00) where Taameer is a warm order, currently 2.12 to Back.  Only 4 (including joints) favourites have won from the last 21 running in this race but Taameer should make that look a little more respectable by winning today.

Marcus Tregoning’s colt finished second in Ascot’s Group 3 Autumn Stakes on his last start which is by far the best form on offer.  Malibu Bay from Aiden O’Brien’s battalions is the one to worry about but Taameer should prove to be the class horse in the field. I make Taameer (2.00 Sandown) my bet of the day.

Bet365 are sponsoring the Big Jumps Race Tomorrow and are offering some excellent offers to punters including a huge Free Bet offer.

The weekend promises to be a good one. Sandown stages a mixed card tomorrow, the likes of which are too few and far between in the UK, with the highlight being the Bet365 Gold Cup. I am looking forward to finding you the winner of the big race on the closing day of the jumps season.

Master Minded to Run a Punchestown Festival

Master Minded to run at Punchestown

Master Minded to run at Punchestown

The Best jumps horse in The World will run next week at Punchestown in Tuesday’s Kerrygold Champion Chase.  Having won a second Champion Chase at Cheltenham it had been thought that he would be turned away for the summer.

Saturday’s Bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown had been the preferred destination but Paul Nicholls thought the ground would be be more suitable for The Master at Punchestown.

Punchestown Racecourse is ‘over the moon’ to have Master Minded running. If I owned him, personally I would have turned him away after the Champion Chase, but sadly I don’t and you can understand why connections want to see him run again.

So can anyone stop The Master?

No.

The only thing that will stop him is if he falls or has had enough for the year. Punchestown is Live on At The Races next week. Get your Bet365 Account Open Now and get your £200 Free Bets to Bet at Punchestown

Tuckers Luck for Jim at Wincanton

Jim Best Trains Dan Tucker

Jim Best Trains Dan Tucker

Dan Tucker won nicely on his last start and looks to repeat that at Wincanton (5.20) on Sunday for trainer Jim Best. Formerly with Nigel Tinkler on the flat Dan Tucker took a while to find his feat over hurdles.

The race is competitive but if he repeats his run of last time when he ran out a nine length winner he will take some beating and the seven pound penalty will not stop Jim Best’s charge.

It’s a quiet day for me on Sunday, but I think that Dan Tucker could win again, on his ground and with Robert Lucey-Butler in the saddle for this Conditional Rider’s event I am keen to be on again. With 20 runners we can expect a decent price!

If you agree then Back Dan Tucker, if not you can Lay him. Either way you can get a £25 Free Bet from Betfair.

Bensalem and Chapoturgeon Look Nailed on

Chapoturgeon is back at Cheltenham

Chapoturgeon is back at Cheltenham

Evening racing at Cheltenham is a wonderful experience, assuming of course the weather is fine, and tomorrow’s meeting will be all the sweeter with a couple of winners.

The two good things on the card are Bensalem (5.35) and Chapoturgeon (6.10).  Bensalem was ruled out of the Albert Bartlett because of a bad scope and would have put up a good performance. He was beaten in January, just by Diamond Harry and really should win this Class 2 Novice Hurdle readily. The Racing Post tissue of 8/13 is in line with last night’s Betfair Betting Exchange price. It is a short price, but it looks great value because this horse is way ahead of the field.

Cheltenham Festival Winner Chapoturgeon went from hero to zero at Aintree when he fell at the very first fence. Assuming he jumps over the fences like he did in March then he is a good bet to double up with Bensalem, but his price of 1.4 (at time of writing) is a bit too short. The double should pay a nice amount and both horses have their races to lose.

A Review of the 2008/09 Jumps Season

14 time Champion Jump Jockey

14 time Champion Jump Jockey

There is no doubt that the 2008/09 National Hunt Season has been fantastic and thrilling. Tony McCoy won the Jockey’s championship for the fourteenth time in a row, breaking the 3000 winner mark on the way. He truly is the greatest jump jockey we have ever seen and it was summed up by Nicky Henderson who said “we will never see these numbers again” and it has to be said that this achievement can not be underestimated.

Paul Nicholls cemented his place as the top trainer over jumps by landing another Champion Trainer crown. He has a stable full of really good horses but was able to produce and place them week after week to win the big races. The season was in many ways dominated by Nicholls and his stable jockey Ruby Walsh who rode seven winners at The Cheltenham Festival.Walsh rides in both Ireland and the UK and many commentators have  questioned whether a permanent base in the UK would see McCoy’s dominance challenged, but though McCoy will not be Champion forever he has a will to win that would in my view see off any such threat.

Horse of the year, as far as public opinion is concerned is Kauto Star. He won the Cheltenham Gold Cup easily in March as well as his third successive King George in a brilliant season for the 2007 G0ld Cup Winner. Denman came back from a heart scare to be second in the Gold Cup but fell at Aintree. Kauto Star has cemented his place as the nation’s favourite jumps horse at Cheltenham but Master Minded must be a pretender to that crown. He only ran three times which saw him win three times including regaining his Champion Chase title at Cheltenham.

Gold Cup Winner Kauto Star

Gold Cup Winner Kauto Star

You may be forgiven for thinking that it was only Paul Nicholls who won any races during the 08/09 season, but Nicky Henderson also had a great year. His hurdlers swept all before them with his Binocular being the short price favourite for The Champion Hurdle. As it happened it was his second string that too that race as Punjabi won with Binocular only third. The stable also landed the Triumph Hurdle with Zaynar, a lovely grey who will graduate to the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham 2010.  Punchestowns was also a star and was favourite for The World Hurdle but he was beaten by Big Bucks trained by, you guessed it, Paul Nicholls.

So back to Nicholls and Walsh. Big Bucks went on to win the Aintree Hurdle and the stable had four from the first five home in the Gold Cup. Nicholls trained the first four home is 2008 which shows you how dominant the yard is over fences.  The 2009/10 season will be one where everyone aims for Nicholls but the firepower he has is awesome.
The Grand National went to 100-1 shot Mon Mome from the Venitia Williams stable which was one for the bookmakers.  We now turn our attention to the flat but the jumps never stops! I for one can not wait for the new season!
