Sunday Horseracing Preview, 6 Feb

The best action of the day on Sunday was in Ireland at Leopardstown which has been abandoned due to heavy rain. The Irish Hennessey Gold Cup card has been lost to the weather, a huge shame!

As far as the UK is concerned we have Fontwell and Musselburgh, both over the jumps.  There are plenty of new names of late joining the training ranks and one of those is Gary Brown who saddles Ilewin Tom (1:50) at Fontwell. This should be a winner despite the 7 pounds penalty for his win last time out.

Captain Kirkton (2:20) should make quick work of the field and justify his short price. Beaten only a head by previous winner Mintiverdi on his debut in a bumper, Captain Kirkton trounced the opposition on last month’s hurdling bow at Lingfield. Gary Moore’s charge looks a decent hurdler in the making and can take this before going on to better things.

Nicky Henderson is the man to follow at Musselburgh and he could easily come back with a treble.

Good luck.

It is Wednesday and winter is here in Yorkshire! It is jumping weather, The Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday looks very good! Hope they all turn up! Wednesdays Free Horseracing Tips come from Musselburgh….

Free Horseracing Betting Tips from Racing Diary

3:50 Musselburgh Graceful Descent bolted up on her latest appearance at Ayr and should follow up in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Willie Park Trophy Handicap at Musselburgh. Jim Goldie’s mare has enjoyed an excellent campaign, winning three times and placed on numerous occasions. The softer ground she has encountered over the last couple of months seems to have helped her find a new level to her game and she should again have conditions in her favour. Graceful Descent is on a career-high mark now, of course, but she does not know how to run a bad race and looks certain to make her presence felt once again.

Fridays Free Horseracing Tips, 6 August

It is already Friday, that week was pretty uneventful, but at least the racing gets better from here on in. The best of the action is actually this evening. Here are your Free Horseracing Tips for Friday….

Free Horseracing Tips for Friday

There is a nice card at Newmarket this evening, Free Horseracing Tips and Best Bets….

7:50 Newmarket, Chabal, Win. Rated the best horse in this field, Chabal should provide a winner for the boys in blue. Saeed Bin Suroor’s Galileo colt lost a Sandown Group Three after a banned substance was found in his system and then flopped when favourite for the Dante at York. He has since swerved the option of the Irish Derby and although he has something to prove it is hard to see him losing if near his best. He should be good enough here. (NAP).

7:05 Musselburgh, Arctic Feeling, Win. Only four runners in a race won by Singeur last term. Arctic Feeling was runner-up last time to subsequent Listed runner Black Moth in a decent novices’ contest at Beverley. Those in behind had either won before that or come out and run well since, giving it a solid look and he will take a bit of beating tonight. Hanagan is flying and this can add to his title hopes!

Free Horseracing Tips

By Carl Harris

Tuesday was simply aweful at Southwell and Newcastle. Timmy Murphy took a terrible tumble and I hope he is Ok, for Cheltenham and Aintree, the big events need the best jockeys.

There was a hurrendous cock-up as several riders took the wrong course, probably the most exciting part of the day, an error that got them a 12 day suspension. It was an error, everyone makes them and thats all I want to say about that! The Grand National weights came out on Tuesday and it may be worth having an antepost bet to snaffle some value.

A busy day on Wednesday but Musselburgh will have to pass a 7am inspection if jumps racing is to go ahead north of the border.I hope it does as its the best card of the day.

So here are your Free Horseracing Tips for Wednesday;

1:50 Musselburgh, Sunarri- Win. This one is unlikely to be ridden by Tommy Murphy who was taken to hospital on Tuesday, so expect a jockey change. George Charlton is a very good trainer and I thought Sunarri was well beaten last time out over course and distance, but this is not much of a race in my book and he should really win this. If not it may be time for a rethink by connections. A modest bet advised.

Jumping from Leicester and Musselburgh

3:50 Musselburgh, Amanda Carter- Win. Richard Fahey will soon be firing in winners on the level on turf but when he sends one over obstacles it is worth taking note. This is another of our well handicapped horse alerts! I am amazed that she has only been awarded a mark of 108. She won a maiden hurdle at Wetherby with the front two pulling miles clear. I think we may get a decent price and at the weights Amanda Carter is well worth a bet.

3:40 Leicester, Pistloet Dove- Win. Whatever it was that brought about this one’s course and distance victory last time it certainly worked. He absolutely bolted up and connections have wisely returned to Leicester to see if he will do it again. The handicapper has raised him nine pounds but I get the feeling that if the horse consents to put his best foot forward then the weight won’t bother him. There is always the danger that he will go back to his old ways, but for me he is worth a play.

Carl Harris’ Free Horseracing Tips for Wednesday 17 February

  • 1:50 Musselburgh, Sunarri- Win
  • 3:40 Leicester, Pistloet Dove- Win
  • 3:50 Musselburgh, Amanda Carter- Win

Tuesday was a pretty poor day of racing. Followers of the Diary though had a great result with Shadows lengthen who defied a huge rise in the weights and clearly could win again. The Polomoche was the only finisher but no prizes for the short odds. Shadows Lengthen though was a very handsome price.

So better stuff today on offer with jumping at Huntingdon and Musselburgh. The exciting Mighty Man is out again over fences but will be short odds but this is a top class horse who will figure at Cheltenham in only 47 days time. We have a dedicated Cheltenham Festival Site which you may like, the Festival will be very special this year! Theere is a big meeting at Cheltenham this weekend which could feature Denman, lets hope so.

free horseracing tips

Denman - will he run at Cheltenham on Saturday?

Here are my best bets for Wednesday;

1:10 Musselburgh, Inventor- Win. Okay so we are not talking big prices, but this looks a solid proposition and you could do worse than double this one with Mighty Man. Inventor looks the good thing of the day and one for the multibets for many but I don’t mind taking short prices if I think it is a very good bet as this is. Not for all but should win and put some cash in the back.

3:20 Huntingdon, Mighty Man- Win. I have already given my reason here and if there is any value at all then I will be a big player. I can not see anything other than a jumping error beating Mighty Man and for those not wanting to take the price then a double with Inventor is an option.

3:50 Huntingdon, Ultimate Limit- Win. Now we get in to the better prices and Ultimate Limit may give some value as layers take comfort in the ten pounds rise in the weights. He was a very easy winner at Towcester in December, in teh Starluck colours, for very capable trainer Alan Fleming. Timmy Murphy takes the ride, a fabulous horseman, who has a style that will suit this horse. I think he may still have a bit in reserve to enable him to win off this mark.

4:10 Musselburgh, Bridlingtonbygones- Win. When this stable has a decent bumper horse then it pays to take notice. A few years ago Don Eddy sold Call Equiname to Paul Nicholls after performing well in bumpers and the rest as they say is history. Bridlingtonbygones was well backed first time out and won well under Sam Thomas who takes the ride again. The front two pulled a mile clear and you with natural improvement Bridlingtonbygones looks the one to be on.

Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Wednesday 27 January

  • 1:10 Musselburgh, Inventor- Win
  • 3:20 Huntingdon, Mighty Man- Win
  • 3:50 Huntingdon, Ultimate Limit- Win.
  • 4:10 Musselburgh, Bridlingtonbygones- Win

Mondays Horseracing Tips, 7 December

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

Monday has three meetings, but two are on the all-weather at Wolverhampton and Lingfield. The jumps action comes from Musselburgh which is where I will focus my attention.

The weekend was poor from my point of view, this rain is a pain but at least at Musselburgh we will probably have the best jumps ground anywhere. For a Monday the jumps action is pretty good and as I said yesterday Its now time to get the Christmas cash on the kitty. Lets see what we can do today.

13:20 Musselburgh, Dumitas- Win. It will not escape many to see that Tony McCoy has made the long trip to Edinburgh for one ride for the Irish trained Dumitas who looks to have a good chance. I do not have any specific statistics to support this view but when McCoy goes for one ride it is usually worth it. Clearly this is a long journey and it should be worth it. Dumitas for his part trotted up at Tipperary last time in a bumper and looks a very good bet to get off to a winning start over hurdles first time out. Dumitas looks the best bet of the day.

Tony McCoy- One ride at Musselburgh

Tony McCoy- One ride at Musselburgh

13:50 Musselburgh, Meridan City- Win. In a fairly weak looking novices hurdle Merdian City looks the answer and can follow up what was a very decent win at Aintree. The Howard Johnson stable has been going very well of late and Denis O’regan is riding particularly well, though is a very hard jockey to read in running. I would be amazed if Meridian City was not able to concede seven pounds to his five opponents.

14:50 Musselburgh, Sea Venture- Win. It may be a little greedy to look for three winners but I can not ignore Sea Venture who looks the obvious choice to win his first race in this seven runner affair. Tim Walford’s gelding has been knocking at the door and was denied by only a nose at Southwell last time. I have no issues with his attitude and he should go one better today for a trainer I like.

Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Monday 7 December;

  • 13:20 Musselburgh, Dumitas- Win
  • 13:50 Musselburgh, Meridan City- Win
  • 14:50 Musselburgh, Sea Venture- Win

Wednesdays Horseracing Tips, 28 October

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

Its Wednesday with something for everyone with flat racing on turf at Musselburgh and Nottingham, all-weather at Kempton and jumps racing at Haydock. It really feels like winter with the cold and the gloom. I read that we are expecting an Indian Summer in the newspaper, I wonder if mother nature reads the same publication. There are some spectacularly poor races on the flat, but we should be able to dig out a couple of winners.

1:30 Musselburgh- Infanta, Win

This is a shocking maiden and the in-form Godolphin stable could land yet another winner here. Infanta (13:30)only needs to have a modest degree of ability to win this and the way the boys in blue’s horses are running you would expect this Cape Cross Filly to be fit, know her job and up to winning this.

Last days on the flat turf for 2009

Last days on the flat turf for 2009

1:50 Haydock- Silver Steel, Win (NAP)

Silver Steel (13:50) is in great form having won his last two races for trainer Richard Ford with Graham Lee in the saddle. Despite a stiff hike in the weights I think the hat-trick will be landed in Haydock’s opener. A small field of five should be ideal although it may mean a shorter than anticipated price. Still, any winner is a welcome one.

Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Wednesday 28 October

  • 1:30 Musselburgh- Infanta, Win

Mondays Horseracing Tips, 14th September

By Carl Harris

Good morning! The information is up later than normal as I took Sunday off completely to spend with the family. Monday has three meetings, of varying quality, with the best of the action at Mussleburgh and supporting cards at Leicester and Redcar. I think I have found two horses who have everything just right for a double at Musselburgh.

3.20 Musselburgh- Dramatic Solo, Win

I genuinely think that Dramatic Solo (3.20) should be clear favourite in the market and as a result we are getting pretty good value. Alan Jarvis’ filly was a course and distance winner two starts ago, off a mark of 65 and was then beaten last time out in an amateur riders race. When rating handicappers I usually disregard amateur races, unless they finished well behind and we can do just that with Dramatic Solo. Up only four pounds, Martin Lane is able to claim his full five pounds allowance, (only three in last times apprentice handicap win), so she is hardly badly treated for her last win. I think she is well handicapped and should win.

Two Bets on Monday

Two Bets on Monday

4.50 Musselburgh- Spirit of Conniston, Win

I think Spirit of Conniston (4.50) is the best bet of the day. It is a case of horses for courses, with his best form coming at Musselburgh and the very similar Catterick where he won readily two outings ago. That was followed up by a run at Chepstow but back on a more suitable track with the excellent Philip Makin in the saddle I think that Spirit of Conniston is the one to be on in what is a very winnable five furlong handicap.
