Lee Keys:

easy trade there 9.0 to 2.6 in running. A mixed day with some gems amongst some moderate calls with the maximum bet just touched off. Thats the way it goes hope you’ve enjoyed it. Back tomorrow

Wednesday February 3, 2010 5:06 Lee Keys
4:49
Lee Keys:

5.00 Kempton – no pace in this and Mark Johnstons LIFES CHALLENGE should be an easy back to lay.

Wednesday February 3, 2010 4:49 Lee Keys
4:03
Lee Keys:

Back for 5.00 Kempton

Wednesday February 3, 2010 3:59 Lee Keys

Lee Keys:

4.00 Lingfield would place an outright lay of ZERO COOL here at 2.5 in running

Wednesday February 3, 2010 3:59 Lee Keys
3:48
Lee Keys:

Back for 4.00 Lingfield, been an up and down sort of day some nice calls some not so good.

Wednesday February 3, 2010 3:48 Lee Keys
3:46
Lee Keys:

no excuses there disppointing

Wednesday February 3, 2010 3:46 Lee Keys
3:37
Lee Keys:

3.40 Exeter – BRADFORD BORIS if he jumps better today will win this for me, theres plenty more to come with him and hes in great hands trained by Nick Williams. He hasnt jumped that well so far but when things click he will in from such a modest mark as this. Watch him over the first two fences and if in a nice enough rhythm have a nice bet on him.

Wednesday February 3, 2010 3:37 Lee Keys
3:12
Lee Keys:

Back for the 3.40 at Exeter

Wednesday February 3, 2010 3:12 Lee Keys

Nice play there hope you were on

Lee Keys:

NEWBaY BOB win bet from here

Wednesday February 3, 2010 3:06 Lee Keys
2:55
Lee Keys:

3.05 Exeter they could go a good gallop here and AYEMDEE could benefit from that. In this ground I would expect NEWBAY BOB to outstay RIVER INDUS if they take each other on, will post an update early in the race

Wednesday February 3, 2010 2:55 Lee Keys
2:53
Lee Keys:

Ridculous price on the off and hope you made a nice few quid on the trade, I laid out at 3.2 and 2.3 off backs of 7.2

Wednesday February 3, 2010 2:53 Lee Keys
2:49
Lee Keys:

massive price at 7.2 totally focused

Wednesday February 3, 2010 2:49 Lee Keys
2:40
Lee Keys:

2.50 Lingfield – Totally Focused looks ahead of the handicapper and his strong travelling style will reward and back to lay here. There is a bit of money in this trade, would be confident of getting out at around 3.0 to 3.5 before the home turn. The horse is thriving at the moment

Wednesday February 3, 2010 2:40 Lee Keys
2:38
Lee Keys:

very very frustrting there as people were also laying the horse getting the colours wrong

Wednesday February 3, 2010 2:38 Lee Keys
2:25
Lee Keys:

2.30 Exeter – RAGAMUFFIN MAN is handicapped to win this, makes his customary mistakes and will come off of the bridle. I think he’s value to win this at current prices of 6.0, but dont be put off in play if hes ridden along hes going to bolt up in one of these type of races soon.

Wednesday February 3, 2010 2:25 Lee Keys
2:10
Lee Keys:

2.15 Lingfield keep your eye on Rondeau here. he is the likely winner with a strong pace set up. However a stall one draw is not ideal given his hold up style but the market has over reacted and hes drifted to 6.0. He’s value to win

Wednesday February 3, 2010 2:10 Lee Keys
1:50
Lee Keys:

I am back for the 2.15 at Lingfield

Wednesday February 3, 2010 1:50 Lee Keys

OUT NOW opens up 3/1 market leader for the delayed 1.05, which is now due off at 1.30

Wednesday February 3, 2010 1:21 Lee Keys
1:12
Lee Keys:

ESPY Traded nice and short there hope you got a few quid

Wednesday February 3, 2010 1:12 Lee Keys
1:06
Lee Keys:

1.10 Lingfield – ESPY looks a decent enough trade to nick a point the way he travels suggests its realistic to back him at around 4.3 and be out around 3.3 before the home turn, thats the angle I’m looking at.

Wednesday February 3, 2010 1:06 Lee Keys

BE VERY CAREFUL TODAY BETFAIR API AND THE MAIN SITE IS PLAYING UP

Wednesday February 3, 2010 1:00 Lee Keys
12:39
Lee Keys:

1.05 Down Royal – Maximum Bet OUT NOW, This horse will prove different calss to this opposition now fully fit and stepping up to the right trip. This horse was a useful point to pointer and can be rated much better than the bare form at Leopardstown as he never jumped a hurdle or was put in the race. Bizarrely the horse wont have to improve much on that effort yet over the longer trip and with a better round of jumping on this stiffer course you can expect plenty. I will be geting stuck in

im out of buncing king at a loss – disappointing

Saturday January 30, 2010 4:11 Lee Keys
4:04
Lee Keys:

4.10 Uttoxeter – BOUNCING KING should also be a fairly easy back to lay. Just short term for a small profit no need to stay in the trade for long.

Saturday January 30, 2010 4:04 Lee Keys
4:01
Lee Keys:

4.10 Uttoxeter – Glebehall Bay could be a bet here at bigger prices as I expect this stout staying type to be off the bridle at some point. He needs three miles so if theres a decent tempo on all the better. Expect this horse to be finding plenty for pressure all the way up the straight. I really fancy this to trade bigger and I will be looking for bigger prices in running this horse is an out and out stayer and Im going for a decent bet when the time is right

Saturday January 30, 2010 4:01 Lee Keys

Lee Keys:

3.40 Cheltenham – see briefing. I think we can get bigger prices in play about the selections. They will both be off the pace and off the bridle at some point.

3:23
Lee Keys:

Will update early in play.

Saturday January 30, 2010 3:23 Lee Keys
3:23
Lee Keys:

3.35 Uttoxeter – Dark Ben’s form is solid and it was a particularly good effort last time as he was pressured all the way round up front but kept going right to the line. If Rosie All Over allows him to get to the lead then he can take the beating, if Rosie All Over tries to mix it with him then it could set up for Pelo Du Bief

Saturday January 30, 2010 3:23 Lee Keys
3:07
Lee Keys:

Back for the 3.35 at Uttoxeter

Saturday January 30, 2010 3:07 Lee Keys

Saturday January 30, 2010 1:45 Lee Keys
1:45
Lee Keys:

1.55 Uttoxeter – War of attrition up front with several front runners, will pay to look for something ridden slightly off the pace, tarvelling and jumping well.

Racing Diary (Carl):

This afternoon’s big meeting at Cheltenham must pass a 10am inspection after an early-morning assessment failed to deliver a positive verdict.

Although frost covers have been deployed over the entirety of the track, overnight temperatures dropped to a shuddering minus 7C.

Cheltenham communications director Andy Clifford told Press Association Sport: “The course is frozen in places under the covers, but temperatures are moving slowly in the right direction. We’d be hopeful rather than confident, but we want to give ourselves the best chance of racing.”

He added: “It’s very likely we’ll make a firm decision at 10am.”

UTTOX UPDATE
Uttoxeter have announced a further 10am inspection ahead of this afternoon’s National Hunt fixture.

Clerk of the course Charlie Moore made the call upon assessing conditions at 8am, but is optimistic about the chances of racing.

Overnight temperatures dipped to around minus 4.5C, but the track is at least covered by frost covers.

Moore said: “We are raceable under the covers and we are hopefully optimistic.”

DONCASTER UPDATE

Doncaster’s Sky Bet Chase fixture requires a 10.30am inspection after an 8am assessment emerged inconclusive.

With overnight temperatures having dipped to minus 2C, clerk of the course David Williams is taking no chances.

He is, however, optimistic Yorkshire racegoers will have their day out on Town Moor.

Williams said: “We’re unraceable at the moment and temperatures have dipped a little since 7am.

“I’m pretty optimistic, though, as the frost hasn’t really got into the ground.

“I’m still very hopeful of racing.”

Cheltenham Update:

This afternoon’s big meeting at Cheltenham must pass a 10am inspection after an early-morning assessment failed to deliver a positive verdict.

Although frost covers have been deployed over the entirety of the track, overnight temperatures dropped to a shuddering minus 7C.

Clerk of the course Simon Claisse staged an 8am precautionary inspection, but his team felt it wise to check again later this morning.

Cheltenham communications director Andy Clifford said: “The course is frozen in places under the covers, but temperatures are moving slowly in the right direction.

“We’d be hopeful rather than confident, but we want to give ourselves the best chance of racing.

“It’s very likely we’ll make a firm decision at 10am.”

Stakes (1-3 pts)

Todays Live Trading Advice Schedule

Cheltenham: 12:55 3:40

Doncaster: 1:10 3:25

Lingfield: 2:15 3:55

Uttoxeter: 1:20 1:55 3:00 3:35 4:10

Today’s Outright Bets Summary

2.15 Lingfield – 3pts win POMEROY @ 9/4 general
3.25 Doncaster – 1pt win KHACHATURIAN @ 10/1 Betfred, Victor Chandler 3.40 Cheltenham – 1pt win LIE FORRIT @ 7/2 general, 1pt win TIME FOR RUPERT @ 15/2 William Hill

2.15 MARRIOTT HOTEL OPENING SPRING 2010 HANDICAP (5) (AWT) 6f

An outstanding betting opportunity here in the shape of the Tom Dascombe trained POMEROY, who still managed to record a half decent time figure despite being taken on for the lead by the Mel Brittain trained NABRINA. In the end we managed to stay on well enough to hang on for fourth but still over ten lengths in front of NABRINA, who simply caused us to go way too quick in the end. This Green Desert colt has clearly been brought along with handicaps in mind and that was clearly the case as connections made hm a very heavily backed 2/1 jolly for that race.

Given the pace he showed that day the drop back to six furlongs will suit and the first time blinkers and tongue tie could be the making of him. He really looks a much much better horse than a 61 rated beast and I have no hesitation at going for a maximum bet at the prices. The opposition isn’t anything special and we can uff our chests out and bet like men on this one.

3.25 SKY BET CHASE (HANDICAP) (Listed) (1) 3m

The pace bias was clearly in evidence at Doncaster yesterday and I have no hesitation in siding with a front runner here in this at a double figure price. KHACHATURIAN is in good form at the moment and battled on well off a decent gallop when third behind Doctor Pat at Newbury last time. That run gives him every chance here but clearly with a heavy prominent/front running bias yesterday anything in double figures about this lightly weighted horse is clearly a bit of value. If he does manage to secure the early lead then he can be quite an easy trade if some of you want the easy quick profit. I will let mine ride though as I think he has an excellent chance under the conditions.

3.40 BETFAIR CLEEVE HURDLE (Grade 2) (1) 3m

An incredibly strong pace make up here and I just feel that something held up for a late run will be a huge advantage here. There are two really progressive types here in LIE FORRIT and TIME FOR RUPERT. Both of these horses look to have stamina in abundance and should the likely strong gallop ensue then the race will play right into their hands.

LIE FORRIT has been mentioned in some quarters as each way value against BIG BUCKS in the World Hurdle, well if thats the case then this liekable gelding will have to be taking this with conditions in his favour. For those playing in running you could possibly obtain bigger prices in running about both choices because I can see both off the bridle in what will be an out and out slog.

TIME FOr RUPERT is the apple of trainer Paul Webbers eye and he showed he had stamina in abundance when winning last time out in a very competitive handicap. He will have to improve again here but the way he’s going you can see that happening. Again if you wanted to take bigger prices in running there should be no problem in doing so.

The gamble PIRAYA is normally one of the first ff the bridle so look to trade that either backing it when it commes off the bridle or laying it if shorter mid race

Saturday January 23, 2010 3:45 Lee Keys
3:44
Lee Keys:

3.45 Ascot absolute war of attrition here and KILCREA CASTLE would be my choice to win this, we may get a bigger price in running but judge it for yourself. You are going to need to stay three miles to win this and with five confirmed front runners it could go to something tracking the pace rather than helping make it. The selection had some excellent form in Ireland and is well handicapped on the pick of them

Saturday January 23, 2010 3:44 Lee Keys

1.45 SUPREME KEANO would win this comfortably if putting in a clean round of jumping. He jumps sticky though and this half brother to Keen Leader will need to get his act together around here. Make plenty of appeal and one to keep an eye on f jumping well

1.40 Lingfield Maoi Chinn Tire excellent back to lay, strong travelling type, hopefully ut of it by about mid race excellent potential to go down to at least 3.0. Tatawor has gone at the game for me, Bubbly Bellini is a shithouse.

  • Ascot: 12:55 1:30 2:05 2:40 3:45 4:20
  • Haydock: 1:45 3:30
  • Lingfield: 1:05 1:40 2:15 3:20

Today’s Outright Bets Summary

  • 2.15 Lingfield – 2pts win R WOODY 1pt win CLIFTON BRIDGE 2.40 Ascot – 2pts lay TWIST MAGIC
  • 2.15 THIRD ‘SHAREN BLAQUIERE – CELEBRATE A LIFE’ HANDICAP (4) (AWT) 5f

Plenty of pace on here and that can play into the hands of R WOODY here, who found the lack of pace against him last time at Wolverhampton, when finding his stride just too late after the winner had nicked a couple of lengths from him over a furlong out. This horse is absolutely thriving at the moment and has been found a perfect opportunity to continue that progress with the predicted pace scenario going to bring the best out of him.

Of the others LUCKY MELLOR looks best at Southwell and looks weighted to the hilt and SAKILE will have plenty on her plate here in first time handicap company as she wont be left alone in the lead like last time. ATHWAAB looks a disappointing sort and ill struggle to turn around the form with R WOODY. This leaves the unexposed CLIFTON BRIDGE as the saver. He was a ready winner of his maiden at Wolverhampton last time and had the 70 rated TEXAS QUEEN over three lengths away in third (winner since). His mark of 79 doesn’t look overly generous but he could step forward from that and he is worth a saver.

2.40 VICTOR CHANDLER CHASE (Clarence House) (Grade 1) (1) 2m 1f

Can anyone tell me why TWIST MaGIC is an 11/8 chance to win this contest? The horse is miles better at Sandown than anywhere else and is priced up on that impressive win alone. If you put the rest of his form into context then he should be about a 5/2 to 3/1 chance. We simply have to be against this horse around this price and at 2.44 he rates as a strong lay for me. I can see a drift at this price for people that want to trade this horse. This seventeen furlongs in testing ground with a likely decent pace doesn’t bring the best out in this horse. The railway fences at Sandown on the back straight enable TWIST MAGIC to get that breather in before the climb for home. He is a different horse around the ESher track than any other course. Paul Nicholls’ gelding was beaten at odds on in this race last year after winning The Tingle Creek at Sandown the time before and I can see a repeat scenario.

Friday January 22, 2010 3:58 Lee Keys
3:52
Lee Keys:

4.05 Catterick VANNIN showed a good deal of stamina up the Carlisle hill on its debut and showed a likeable attitude after getting badly outpaced in the dip. This track wont suit as well but a good gallop will helpp as will the exttra two furlongs and the more testing conditions. Dont be put off if ths horse is pushed along down the back straight if the pace is strong he will come home strongly.

Lee Keys:

VERY WELL RED should be an easy back to lay as well having an outright bet on the account, an amazing price at the moment bigger than 7.0. There is very little pace on here and the in form mare can sit handy and have the run of the race. All the money is for Charlie Smirk, who is talented but needs to be prodcued at excatly the right time he’s quirky.

3.10 Lingfield – very trappy handicap but FREEDOM FIRE is a notorious non finder and is worth laying at short odds if travellling well. No upside in laying it at current price of 8.0 but hopefully will trade much shorter and we can get in and take advantage

Lee Keys:

2.20 Catterick BALLABRIGGS good back to lay here and I recommend a 1pt stake putting a lay in a couple of points shorter. This is a strong travelling type and i fully expect him to trade shorter you can always bail out for a small loss if thats not the case.

Friday January 22, 2010 2:15 Lee Keys

Lee Keys:

rubenstar 12.5 into 3.65 easy trade there for me, back shortly for the next at Catterick

Friday January 22, 2010 2:08 Lee Keys
2:01
Lee Keys:

2.00 Lingfield: The stronger the pace the better for Rubenstar and Divine Force. Prefer the former because he is showing he can still quicken off a slow pace as has been the case on his last two starts. Rubenstar could be an excellent back to lay if he has settled well early. Divine Force is in superb heart and these two should be watched closely. Slow pace back Rubenstar to lay back shorter, quick pace back Divine Force to lay. Rubenstar needs to settle though

Friday January 22, 2010 1:33 Lee Keys
1:30
Lee Keys:

1.30 Lingfield – no interest at the prices Total Impact doesn’t always find as much as it looks but could get the run of the race here with Misaro and Lord Deevert likely to make a strong pace. Total Impact doesnt truly stay six furlongs so bare in mind at the prices.

Friday January 22, 2010 1:07 Lee Keys
12:59
Lee Keys:

I recommend an outright back of 1pt on Blue Zephyr will beat these if straight

Friday January 22, 2010 12:59 Lee Keys
12:58
Lee Keys:

1.00 Lingfield. Blue Zephyr is the best of these if straight made a very eyecatching debut back in the spring, you are guessing though whether it has had problems and is fit but appears strong in the market. Freddies Girl has more toe than the favourite Mrs Boss and she needs to come off the inside as she doesnt want any problems getting a run

Friday January 22, 2010 12:58 Lee Keys
12:55

Friday January 22, 2010 12:51 Lee Keys

Lee Keys:

12.30 Lingfield – A slow gallop for this race will be the undoing of any horse that requires a strong pace to run at or lacks a turn of foot. No outright opinion here.

  • 3.45 Lingfield 2pts win VERY WELL RED

12.50 yorkshire4x4.com ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES SELLING HANDICAP HURDLE (5) 2m

Not the greatest race you will ever see, in fact this is a race full of out of form types that are either regressive, temperamental or useless.

That said there is one in here that literally stands out like a ‘barmaids bristols’ in the shape of the Chris Grant trained MARDOOD. This gelding is without doubt the most consistent of this motley bunch and on three of his last four efforts he would win this race (the other one was after a six month absence). Take a butchers at his last start and it makes you want to back him. It was a class four race over three furlongs further than today’s trip over the same course. Today’s race is a drop in class in terms of the quality of the opposition and the form of this race bares close inspection. The horse he beat into fourth MR FLOPPY has since won a handicap chase and the sixth horse home CRYSTAL PRINCE was successful in a better race than this at Plumpton on Monday.

If he were a better animal then I would rate him as a maximum bet against this lost for his sheer consistency alone. But he isn’t and he isn’t the most fluent of jumpers either. But it would be a major disappointment if he didn’t win this poor contest. He gets further than this trip as well so won’t fail through lackof stamina. He got on well with todays pilot Callum Whillans last time and I’m confident MARDOOD will do the business today.

2.20 catterickbridge.co.uk HANDICAP CHASE (3) 3m 1f110y

Three horses I like in this and both have sound claims of building on a resurgence in form. The Don McCain trained BALLABRIGGS made a very encouraging return to the racecourse after clearly suffering from a problem, when a good third behind TARATEENO in a handicap hurdle. He shaped as thugh he retained plenty of ability as he was travelling all over his rivals in the straight only to run out of steam after the second last. He was beaten twelve lengths but was only two lengths down at the last. The return to the larger obstacles, where in 2007/2008 he was establishing himself as a likeable progressive chaser can only be in his favour. Without doubt he’s the class act of the field and should go close to defying top weight.

HERECOMESTANLEY is an evergreen eleven year old who has now put together good back to back efforts to suggest he is coming back to something like his recent best, form which will take him close to winning here. He didn’t get the run of the race at Fakenham last time but the way he travelled suggests that he can take advantage of a mark ten pounds lower than in the spring of last year. His form at Leicester on his penultimate start was franked with the winner going in again off a seven pounds higher mark (dropped 4lbs from that run). He should be more than competitive in this race today.

Last but not least the only other piece in the jigsaw and that’s the Howard JOhnson trained CANADA STREET, whom it has to be said is not the most fluent jumper of fences but such is his mark no that he will simply bolt up in one of these one day when he gets his act together. You simply can’t leave him out of the equation and I cannot see the winner coming from anyhwere else than the above three. Our play rates at least 4/3 against in that we are due around 7pts return for a 3pts outlay providing one of our selections wins.

3.45 lingfieldpark.co.uk HANDICAP (6)(D.II) (AWT) 1m

For anyone that saw VERY WELL RED win the other day it’s surely a matter of whether this horse is in the same mood again today rather than the opposition being good enough to beat her. She’s fallen to a very attractive mark now and the bounce back to form came out of the blue and she can be moody (has unshipped her rider in the stalls before). However all things considered a repeat of her latest effort would see her bolt up and at 4/1 this morning this rates as well worth the risk. She will come into this race fit and more importantly she likes to race prominently and there is very little speed in this race so if things click into place this mare should follow up her Kempton win.

A back to lay would have been more prudent with hindsight but yet again ELUSIVE FAME finds one too good. Brings us + 0.6pts on day

Lee Keys:

2.20 Southwell we have a daily briefing trade here in ELUSIVE FAME a 2pts lay @ 2.5 no bigger as I believe this horse can go short and will shirk the issue. Cancel the bet around one a and a half furlongs out if you are playing on ATR or just before the furlong pole if you are playing on SIS.

Will advise in play on this horse

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:57 Lee Keys

Lee Keys:

ANAY TURGE recommended at 8.4 this morning 5.3 now so the trade makes limited appeal if you haven’t already got on.

2.00 Anay Turge well backed now into 5.8

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:50 Lee Keys
1:46
Lee Keys:

At 6.2 there was some mileage for a trade but the shorter it goes the more inclined I will be to go for an in play LAY at short odds

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:46 Lee Keys
1:45
Lee Keys:

4.8 now

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:45 Lee Keys
1:44
Lee Keys:

ROYAL BET price shortening to 5.5 making less appeal now as a trade

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:44 Lee Keys
1:31
Lee Keys:

I must add that ROYAL BET’S connections will certainly be trying because he’s entered in the sales next month.

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:31 Lee Keys
1:29
Lee Keys:

1.50 Southwell – ROYAL BET could be very tradable here. There are a few ifs and buts like if Hayley can get the horse to settle if she does then you can expect the price to collapse in play. The problem with this horse is his resolution as normally he would rather shirk the issue than go through with his effort as he likes to hang in behind other runners when asked for maximum effort. He’s certainly got potential to go as low as 3.0 in play so at current odds of around 6.2 there is mileage. The advice on this horse will come in play and I may instead go for an in play lay at shortish odds – we shall see

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:29 Lee Keys
1:22
Lee Keys:

No opinions now until the 1.50 at Southwell, we then have our first daily briefing race at 2.00 with Arnay De Turge.

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:22 Lee Keys
1:18
Lee Keys:

1.20 Southwell – no interest here! unless there is a pace edge it is very difficult to play in running over shorter distances with such a picture speed disadvantage. I like course specialists Handsinthemist and The Geester here but I will be keeping my powder dry.

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:18 Lee Keys
1:11
Lee Keys:

An easy win for SECANT STAR.

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:11 Lee Keys
1:09
Lee Keys:

SECANT STAR will win from here 2pts 1.3 or better

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:09 Lee Keys
1:07
Lee Keys:

SECANT STAR looking good in play 1.36 about right

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:07 Lee Keys
1:03
Lee Keys:

1.05 Gowran Park – SECANT STAR certainly a class above the second favourite Soldier Bay but priced up accordingly. There may be an edge in play, both horses travel strongly.

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:03 Lee Keys
1:02
Lee Keys:

certainly no interest in play after the fall of the second favourite.

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:02 Lee Keys
12:59
Lee Keys:

BOTHY very well backed for the opener but certainly no opinion pre play. I may offer an opinion in play on this race.

Thursday January 21, 2010 12:59 Lee Keys
12:50
Lee Keys:

Stakes will be advised from 0.1 up to 3pts. For example I may say the following:

0.2pts lay Elusive Fame up to 13.0 pulling too hard

This would tell you to lay the horse up to the price of 13.0 beacause the horse is not settling as well as it normally does. I recommend a betting bank of 100pts.

Thursday January 21, 2010 12:50 Lee Keys
12:40
Lee Keys:

1.00 Taunton – BOTHY is carrying signficant stable confidence, they feel he is capable of winning in a better grade than this. One not of caution would be the form of his Bangor win doesn’t look particularly strong. He jumped well (barring one mistake) on his debut and we may have a look in play. At the current price of around 2.26 he makes no appeal to be backing now from a form point of view

Thursday January 21, 2010 12:40 Lee Keys
12:38
Lee Keys:

Our first maximum bet MAORI LEGEND (3.30 Taunton) has been punted off the boards right down to 4/1 in places. 11/2 is still available with Skybet (which is still value) but maybe if you haven’t already bet the horse you may want to drop your stake to 2pts win at that price.

2.00 JOANNE PAYNE-PUDAN NOVICES’ HANDICAP CHASE (4) 2m 3f

Advice: 2pts back ARNAY TURGE @ current odds of around 7.6 lay back in running 1pt @ 4.0 1pt @ 3.5 1pt @ 2.5 1pt @ 2.0

ARNAY TURGE is a strong travelling French bred that took very well to fences at the first time of asking jumping nicely but finding ERE ALFIE too strong in the closing stages. ARNAY TURGE has finished weakly in the past but the way he travels and the handy 5yo allowance he receives suggests he will be winning one of these before long. He is also ten pounds better off for a six lengths beating by ERE ALFIE so is entitled to turn the form around on these terms considering he culd significantly improve for hs first outing over fences.

The way he travels means that at his current price of 7.6 we have a very god chance of getting some decent wages out of it and by staggering the lay out we would win 5pts if he is successful or win 2pts if he isn’t providing all the trade outs are matched.

2.20 VIC LEER 60 YEARS SUPPORTING CHELSEA F.C. HANDICAP (4) (AWT) 1m

Advice: 2pts lay ELUSIVE FAME @ 2.5 in running

ELUSIVE FAME has twice blown a winning advantage at this track and I think it’s down to a lack of resolution on both occasions. Prior to his latest start at the track the Mark Johnston trained gelding has traded as low as 2.0, 2.14, 1.99 and 1.19 in running and won none of them. The fact that he is 10.5 today might suggest we should do a back to lay but I prefer an outright lay putting the trade in before the off at 2.5 and keeping the bet for in play as he did run well below par last time out.

His strong travelling, prominent running style could play into our hands today with a lay in at shortish odds. He doesn’t find a deal in the closing stages.

3.05 IRISH STALLION FARMS EUROPEAN BREEDERS FUND NOVICE CHASE 2½m

Advice: 1pt back JERED @ 5.5 in running then lay 1pt @ 3.0 in running

JERED still hasn’t got his act together over fences and for that reason I am wanting a bigger price in running than we are likely to get pre play. I want to back this horse because even if he makes a couple of his customary blunders he still has the beating of these. Even the one they are coming for in the market this morning SAM ADAMS. If you look at line through LENABANE then SAM ADAMS has it to do to beat JERED.

JERED was much the best of these over hurdles and under A P McCoy I am confident of doing the trade because he has more toe than the sluggards he faces today (was very useful two mile hurdler). So by asking for around a pint and a half bigger in running (will come when he makes a blunder) we can then get out later in the race when it becomes apparent he is travelling much the best.

3.30 SHOREDITCH HANDICAP CHASE (4) 3m 3f

Advice: 3pts back MAORI LEGEND @ 7/1 or 8.0 on Betfair

The first of two maximum bets today and it is imperative you take the morning odds about this one. No trading here but you can if you wish obviously.

This mare gave a little sign that she was on the way back last time out and lets face it at her best she would obliterate this lot. She can be lazy in running so may not be an ideal back to lay but two factors really sway me into a big bet here. She has been dropped eight pounds for that run last time out and she is now eight pounds lower than when successful in this month last year. Added to that she gets the full ten pounds allowance claimed off her back from the yards useful conditional M J Quinlan, who by the way has ridden three winners for the yard in the last two weeks.

So in effect we have a mare on the way back last time who is effectively running off an eighteen pounds lower mark thaan she ran off last time. Conditions are ideal and there are no excuses against this level of opposition from this kind of mark.

3.35 CAREY’S COTTAGE CUP HANDICAP CHASE 2½m

Advice: 2pts back WHOSAIDSO then lay back 1pt @ 2.5 in running and 1pt @ 2.1 in running

The strong travelling WHOSAIDSO couldn’t quicken up over the minimum trip last time after travelling like a horse ahead of his mark. However back up further in trip today you will see a better horse and providing he jumps okay then we should have little difficulty in completing the trade. WRIGHT FLYER is the danger and has clearly been given three schooling sessions in order to get a decent handicap mark. However this horse isn’t straight forward and his jumping hasn’t been foot perfect so far.

4.20 DINE IN THE HORIZONS RESTAURANT HANDICAP (7) (AWT) 7f 32y

Advice: 2pts back QUALITAS (providing there is market support)

Mick Easterby is pretty adept at landing touches with this type of horse. He showed up fairly well on his debut back in May at Doncaster, which was enough alone to beat this awful opposition. He’s clearly being lined up for a touch and the shrewdies who watch the market moves first are the ones that will get on the gravy train before he ends up a ridiculously short price. It may not be today but it’s hard to see him getting a worse race than this and I would keep your beady eyes open here.

6.50 GREAT OFFERS AT wolverhampton-racecourse.co.uk HANDICAP (6) (AWT) 1½m50y

Advice: 3pts back KEENES ROYALE (take current market odds currently 2.0)

The second maximum bet of the day and for me KEENES ROYALE should be 1.5. This horse simply bolted up at Kempton last time with plenty in hand and this horse is one that can run up a sequence now he’s been transferred to the Raif Beckett ard from the retiring Pat Haslam.

He is stepping up in trip tonight which will definitely suit him and the only issue would be hether he handles this sharper track as well as Kempton. But that is being really nitpicky as a six pounds penalty will not stop him and the step up in trip negates for any fears about the sharper circuit. A very very good bet at around even money – lets tuck in.

3:03 Eric (The Layer):  Lay Fav- Carl
3:03 Eric (The Layer):  QUANAH PARKER at 19′s Dave
3:03 Eric (The Layer):  So to summarise: Sloop John B ew- Dave and Carl
3:03 Thomas Wood:  Im on Master of Disguise
3:02 Eric (The Layer):  Too big for me to lay. I dont think will win though
3:02
Racing Diary (Carl):  I have also laid Master of Disguise…
3:01
Racing Diary (Carl):

Richard Fahey is in scintillating form, as we saw with a Joe Jo Star winning very easily for us yesterday at odds of 3-1 no less. Sloop Johnb was a non-runner yesterday because Fahey didn’t think he would get a run in the £100k Reg Griffin Memorial Trophy, but he did, gets a fine but will run in teh feature sprint today . He takes on three year-olds rather than his elders and I am still siding with the inform team. Sloop Johnb can complete the hat-trick and is one to back each-way.

Today represents a significant step up in class but Richard Fahey must be confident and the way his string are running it would be hard for anyone to disagree with him. The stable has had 14 winners in the past 14 days with a record at York which is second to none. He loves the Knavesmire, as do I and he knows how to land these big races here. A competitive, to say the least, sprint handicap will guarantee us a decent price. Sloop Johnb is one for both a win and place market investment.

3:01
Racing Diary (Carl):  Ok so to the Big One at York..
3:00
Dave:  In the next I already punted QUANAH PARKER at 19′s this morning and decent place on Betfair at a massive 3/1….bit shorter now but think it’s still worth an e/w bet. SLOOP JOHNB a big danger but would have preferred it yesterday. I’ll also have a slightly smaller bet on IMPERIAL GUEST who looks overpriced.
3:00

Dave:  Yeah tough race, difficult to rate unexposed types like that. Capable Guest ran a lot better than most shorter than him in the betting but never looked like troubling the leaders
2:40 Eric (The Layer):  Ah well…
2:39 Peter:  just a bit
2:38
Racing Diary (Carl):  tough race there chaps!
2:36 Eric (The layer):  Dave I usually dont bother weekends… make plenty weekdays and have weekend off!
2:35
Dave:  Some good lays of the shorties yesterday Eric – bit thin on the ground today though, not too many odds-on shots
2:35
Racing Diary (Carl):  checklow- 16 to 12-1
2:35
2:34 Eric (The layer):  Ive had a 5er on daves 3 and H’s 2
2:34
Racing Diary (Carl):  I like two- Angel Rock and Checklow. I particularly think Checklow is a good type and this race could suit.. Mind you I could have 10 goes and still not get it right!
2:32
Dave:  Well I’ve backed it each-way but also win at 100 and also in the place market. Put in a couple of small lays in-running and also done the same for Flipando for slightly smaller stakes.
2:30 Phil K:  Nice green in the last Dave thanks, Capable 80 on BF. Place or back to lay?
2:30
Racing Diary (Carl):  Angel Rock for me..but what a nightmare!
2:29
Dave:  None of them on the first page of the betting ;-)
2:29
Dave:

I’m going for a big-priced outsider here in the 2:35 at York – CAPABLE GUEST, it hasn’t shown much for a while but I think he has his conditions today andis massively overpriced but also going to throw in FLIPANDO and MASTERSHIP for smaller more realistic e/w bets – cracking looking race but wide-open

2:28
Racing Diary (Carl):  Next Race 2.35 York….
2:27
Racing Diary (Carl):  Welcome
2:27 Peter:  hey all
2:27

2:26
Racing Diary (Carl):  Surprised Typo sorry!
2:26 Eric (The Layer):  cheeky twat
2:26
Racing Diary (Carl):  You use Tagadab too Eric?
2:25 Eric (The Layer):  me too- £13 though! I use this Bet Angel that harris put me on too. Brilliant!
2:25
Racing Diary (Carl):  I greened up on that race- £67 accross card!
2:24
Dave:  2nd and 3rd – oh well, close and no damage
2:24 Eric (The Layer):  Carl – that is!
2:24 Eric (The Layer):  you look 50 though!
2:23
Dave:  Although I have always felt 16 Cool
2:23
Racing Diary (Carl):  Im 40 next year!!
2:23
Dave:  Yeah me too in September
2:23 Eric (The Layer):  OK, just so Im clear! Im 40 you know!
2:23
Racing Diary (Carl):  Im laying the fav at 3.10. Too short- up in weights!
2:22
Dave:  Yes m8 – one and the same
2:22 Eric (The Layer):  Quite good. Just Lay everything short and you eat well! Although gonna follow this Dave for a bit too, hes in profit with me! DAVE – you Dingo?
2:21 Pierre:  How you find it?
2:20 Eric (The Layer):  well I guess yes. Although I do back. 90% of my bets are lays
2:20
Dave:  Yeah I will be backing SLOOP JOHNB but I actually have QUANAH PARKER top-rated in that, got on at 19 this morning and has been well backed
2:20 Pierre:  Eric are you a professional layer?
2:19
Racing Diary (Carl):  I see Sloop Johnb is highly rated on your list Dave at York. Really like this one!
2:18
Racing Diary (Carl):  Both place bets Odds against on Betfair.
2:17 Eric (The Layer):  Job Done!

Racing Diary (Carl):  First Race is 1.50 Sandown. Another horse to oppose is Global (1.50) at Sandown who having been raised a further six pounds in the handicap after three straight wins may now be in the grip of the handicapper. This race can go the way of Forte Dei Marmi. For Luca Cumani who has once again booked William Buick. The young jockey has three wins from 10 rides this reason for the trainer and looks a champion in the making. I see this as a positive and will be backing Forte Dei Marmi accordingly.
1:30
Racing Diary (Carl):  Good Afternoon. A Great day of racing ahead this Saturday. 13th June 2009

3:44
Carl Harris:  It is all over now!
3:43
Carl Harris:  OUT
3:43
Neil:  I think so too and 2 out of 3 aint bad, was a risky strategy, backing the side that you thought would lose in a two horse race, but we live and learn
3:43
Carl Harris:  Im well up after that 6-1 shot won easily down to 3-1
3:42
Carl Harris:  Me too! Not the best event to try this but the concept is a good one?>
