Wayne Bridge Lands Handshake Gamble Costing Bookies Dear

Wayne Bridge has snubbed John Terry during the handshakes ahead of the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester City.

Chelsea captain Terry extended his hand to Bridge but the Manchester City defender refused to reciprocate, before shaking the hand of each of his former Chelsea teammates.

Stan James were counting the cost of Wayne Bridge refusing to shake the hand of John Terry at Stamford Bridge this afternoon as a gamble was landed from 6s down to 6/4 when the firm pulled the market as it became apparent that there would be no olive branch offered by the former Chelsea player ahead of the game.

Head of PR Charlie McCann:” It was the most talked about non handshake, arguably, in the history of the Premier League certainly on a par with the Wenger/Hughes spat at Eastlands earlier in the season but it has cost us well into five figures as punters latched onto the 6s available on Thursday afternoon and it was well backed at all rates into 6/4 before we cried enough.”

William Hill are paying out to punters who gambled on Wayne Bridge refusing to shake hands with John Terry after the odds about that happening were slashed from odds against to odds-on following a surge of bets.

‘We cut our odds once from 13/8 to 11/10 and then again to 5/6 as punters poured cash on the Bridge snub’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe, ‘It will cost us a five figure sum – so we’re shaken- but not stirred enough to rule out similar bets in the future as they create a huge talking point.’

Rio Ferdinand 8/1 to Captain England with Ladbrokes!

JOHN Terry is 10/1 not to make England‘s World Cup squad after being stripped of the captaincy on Friday. But the centre half is as short as 1/50 to make the plane to South Africa. – The former skipper is 7/2 to score during the finals.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: “Terry may have lost the armband but it will be a huge surprise if he’s misses out on the tournament.”

Ladbrokes offer 8/1 that Rio Ferdinand will start as Captain in England’s next match. STEVEN Gerrard is 4/7 favourite to skipper England against Egypt after John Terry was stripped of the captaincy  yesterday (Fri). Wayne Rooney (15/8) is next best with Rio Ferdinand available at 8/1.

Having read, seen and heard reports such as this from the Telegraph, I am going to take the 8/1 about Rio Ferdinand.Rio Ferdinand has been appointed as England captain after Fabio Capello sacked John Terry of the role following allegations over his private life, the Telegraph can reveal.”

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: “Steven Gerrard is the standout candidate and has already attracted more wagers than the rest of the field combined.”

John Terry is 6/4 not to start England‘s next game.

John Terry Dropped as Captain of England

SO WHO WILL START AS ENGLAND SKIPPER AGAINST USA?

England Captain

John Terry

John Terry has been dropped as England captain following his showdown with England manager Fabio Capello over his alleged affair, the Football Association has confirmed.

Capello said: “After much thought, I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry. As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad. What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice. John Terry was notified first. When I chose John Terry as captain, I also selected a vice-captain and also named a third choice. There is no reason to change this decision.”

WILLIAM HILL MAKE Rio Ferdinand their 1/5 favourite to START England’s first World Cup game against USA as captain following John Terry’s demotion. And Hills make Steven Gerrard 6/1 second favourite to take the armband with Wayne Rooney at 8/1. JOHN TERRY is 11/2 with Hills to take the armband at some stage during the World Cup.

William Hill…Who Will Captain England Against USA ?
Rio Ferdinand 1/5
Steven Gerrard 6/1
Wayne Rooney 8/1
Frank Lampard 12/1
David Beckham 25/1
John Terry 25/1
Gareth Barry 33/1
David James 50/1
Ashley Cole 50/1

**Wayne Bridge Make World Cup Squad 5/6 Yes 5/6 No
**Terry To Captain England At Any Point In World Cup 1/10 No 11/2 Yes

‘There was a big gamble on Wayne Rooney to start the USA game as skipper, which seems to have been misplaced. However, with several months still to go before the game there is plenty of time for things to change and injuries to affect who will actually begin the game as captain.’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Rooney for Skipper?

England boss Fabio Capello arrived back in Britain on Thursday ahead of talks with captain John Terry. Capello is expected to meet Terry on Friday and the Football Association has made it clear that he alone will decide the 29-year-old’s fate. Capello refused to answer questions from the media scrum who greeted his arrival, responding only “no comment” as he was ushered to a waiting car. Bookmakers suggest terry will keep the armband but punters are backing Wayne Rooney.

WITH FABIO Capello back in the country the guessing game as to his intentions over the John Terry situation has continued, with William Hill forced to slash their odds about Wayne Rooney taking over as captain for England’s opening World Cup game against USA for the second day running, this time from 10/1 to 6/1.

‘With punters betting up to £250 a time on Rooney taking over the armband we’ve had to cut his odds significantly again’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills have now lengthened Terry from 4/9 to 4/7 to be skipper for that game and make Steven Gerrard 5/2 second favourite, with Rooney 6/1; Ferdinand 8/1; Lampard 16/1; Beckham 20/1.

JOHN TERRY is 8/13 with Hills to keep the captain’s armband in the forthcoming friendly against Egypt, and 6/5 to lose it.

Next England Captain?

WAYNE ROONEY has emerged as the man punters believe could replace John Terry as England skipper, with William Hill having to cut his odds from 16/1 to 10/1 third favourite to lead the side in their opening World Cup game against USA.

John Terry is 4/9 favourite to start as skipper for that match (13/8 not to) with Hills also offering 5/2 Gerrard; 10/1 Rooney; 16/1 Ferdinand; 16/1 Lampard; 20/1 Beckham.

‘Opinion seems to be firming up that Terry is quite likely to be replaced and punters steamed in to take our 16/1 for Rooney to succeed him for the first World Cup game with a string of bets of up to £50 a time in the shops and bets of up to £300 online.’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Terry is 8/13 to be England captain for their next friendly against Egypt with Hills who offer 6/5 that he will not be.

John Terry- Chelsea or Manchester City?

It is beginning to resemble the Ronaldo to Mardird saga, but will John Terry sign for Manchester City or stay at Chelsea?

Should I stay or should I go....John Terry

Should I stay or should I go....John Terry

It is amazing that Chelsea have a rival that can out bid them in the transfer market. Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has called for the ongoing John Terry transfer saga to be put to one side, which seems an odd statement given that he has spent the summer chasing him.

The Chelsea skipper has been strongly linked with a move to Eastlands this summer, with City openly admitting to holding an interest in the England international. Chelsea have responded with an improved contract for John Terry, either way Terry looks like avoiding the credit crunch!

Yesterday it was reported in The Telegraph that Manchester City manager Mark Hughes will return to Chelsea with an improved bid of up to £50 million for their captain John Terry, with a package worth £1 million-a-month to the player after Terry indicated he was prepared to commit to Chelsea.

It is a mess, but I suspect that Terry’s advisors will be taking full commercial advantage of the situation. Chelsea are expecting Terry to make a public statement about his intentions in the next few days and negotiations over an improved deal at Stamford Bridge are set to take place once the club returns from their pre-season tour of the United States.

It is a good negotiating position for team Terry and I think it is unthinkable for Terry to go to Manchester. There is little chance, in my view, of John Terry leaving Chelsea, not this summer. If things go down hill under the new Chelsea boss then 2010 may be a different scenario.

Despite positive noises coming out of the Chelsea camp, however, Hughes has not yet conceded defeat and has been advised by City’s owners, the Abu Dhabi United Group, to pursue the England captain, ‘whatever it costs’, according to reports.  Terry’s people will be sitting pretty at the Chelsea negotiating table and will come out with a very good deal, but he will remain Chelsea captain.

No, John Terry will not sign for City would be my guess, but in football money talks and City may have more than Chelsea! The football season will be a great one, with Racing Diary!
