England Lengthen As Terry Suffers Foot Injury

Chelsea captain John Terry has undergone a “precautionary scan” on his right foot after taking a knock in training on Wednesday.

The news comes as a blow for Chelsea’s preparations as they attempt to win the double when they face Portsmouth in Saturday’s FA Cup final and if it proves to be a more serious problem, his participation in the World Cup could be in doubt.

A statement from the club said: “John Terry has taken a knock in training and has gone to hospital for a precautionary scan on his right foot.

Unconfirmed news that former England captain John Terry has suffered a broken metatarsal has seen Stan James push the Three Lions out to 6s from 11/2 for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and cut Holland from 11s into 10/1.

Wayne Bridge Lands Handshake Gamble Costing Bookies Dear

Wayne Bridge has snubbed John Terry during the handshakes ahead of the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester City.

Chelsea captain Terry extended his hand to Bridge but the Manchester City defender refused to reciprocate, before shaking the hand of each of his former Chelsea teammates.

Stan James were counting the cost of Wayne Bridge refusing to shake the hand of John Terry at Stamford Bridge this afternoon as a gamble was landed from 6s down to 6/4 when the firm pulled the market as it became apparent that there would be no olive branch offered by the former Chelsea player ahead of the game.

JOHN Terry is 10/1 not to make England‘s World Cup squad after being stripped of the captaincy on Friday. But the centre half is as short as 1/50 to make the plane to South Africa. – The former skipper is 7/2 to score during the finals.

John Terry has been dropped as England captain following his showdown with England manager Fabio Capello over his alleged affair, the Football Association has confirmed.

Capello said: “After much thought, I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry. As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad. What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice. John Terry was notified first. When I chose John Terry as captain, I also selected a vice-captain and also named a third choice. There is no reason to change this decision.”

England boss Fabio Capello arrived back in Britain on Thursday ahead of talks with captain John Terry. Capello is expected to meet Terry on Friday and the Football Association has made it clear that he alone will decide the 29-year-old’s fate. Capello refused to answer questions from the media scrum who greeted his arrival, responding only “no comment” as he was ushered to a waiting car. Bookmakers suggest terry will keep the armband but punters are backing Wayne Rooney.

WITH FABIO Capello back in the country the guessing game as to his intentions over the John Terry situation has continued, with William Hill forced to slash their odds about Wayne Rooney taking over as captain for England’s opening World Cup game against USA for the second day running, this time from 10/1 to 6/1.

WAYNE ROONEY has emerged as the man punters believe could replace John Terry as England skipper, with William Hill having to cut his odds from 16/1 to 10/1 third favourite to lead the side in their opening World Cup game against USA.

John Terry is 4/9 favourite to start as skipper for that match (13/8 not to) with Hills also offering 5/2 Gerrard; 10/1 Rooney; 16/1 Ferdinand; 16/1 Lampard; 20/1 Beckham.

John Terry- Chelsea or Manchester City?

It is beginning to resemble the Ronaldo to Mardird saga, but will John Terry sign for Manchester City or stay at Chelsea?

It is amazing that Chelsea have a rival that can out bid them in the transfer market. Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has called for the ongoing John Terry transfer saga to be put to one side, which seems an odd statement given that he has spent the summer chasing him.

The Chelsea skipper has been strongly linked with a move to Eastlands this summer, with City openly admitting to holding an interest in the England international. Chelsea have responded with an improved contract for John Terry, either way Terry looks like avoiding the credit crunch!

Yesterday it was reported in The Telegraph that Manchester City manager Mark Hughes will return to Chelsea with an improved bid of up to £50 million for their captain John Terry, with a package worth £1 million-a-month to the player after Terry indicated he was prepared to commit to Chelsea.

It is a mess, but I suspect that Terry’s advisors will be taking full commercial advantage of the situation. Chelsea are expecting Terry to make a public statement about his intentions in the next few days and negotiations over an improved deal at Stamford Bridge are set to take place once the club returns from their pre-season tour of the United States.

It is a good negotiating position for team Terry and I think it is unthinkable for Terry to go to Manchester. There is little chance, in my view, of John Terry leaving Chelsea, not this summer. If things go down hill under the new Chelsea boss then 2010 may be a different scenario.

Despite positive noises coming out of the Chelsea camp, however, Hughes has not yet conceded defeat and has been advised by City’s owners, the Abu Dhabi United Group, to pursue the England captain, ‘whatever it costs’, according to reports. Terry’s people will be sitting pretty at the Chelsea negotiating table and will come out with a very good deal, but he will remain Chelsea captain.

No, John Terry will not sign for City would be my guess, but in football money talks and City may have more than Chelsea! The football season will be a great one, with Racing Diary!
