Saturday and Sunday Free Horseracing Tips, 26 June, 27 June

Its a big day of racing action on Saturday with the Norhumberland Plate, at Newcastle, always a decent race and I really fancy one to take the Pitmens Derby. There is plenty of action to get stuck in to. Here are your Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary, for Saturday and for the Irish Derby on Sunday.

Can Jan Vermeer Win the Irish Derby?

Weekend Free Horseracing Tips….

2:00 Newcastle, Himalya, Win. Knot in Wood won this last year and is back to defend his title but I think Jeremy Noseda will take this northern prize back to Newmarket with the interesting Himalya who has been second on his last two starts. Both rated 107 it could be tight but having run well in high class handicaps of late and going down by only a neck I fancy him to win this Group Three contest.
totesport.com

3:05 Newcastle, Deauville Flyer, Win. In the Northumberland Plate I fancy the well backed Tim Easterby charge. Off a feather-weight and still very much improving the favourite has been very well backed. There are a few decent types in his way, not least Mamlook but I think we have a good one here and at around the 5/1 mark I am very keen to be on this one. Despite the 5lb penalty Deauville Flyer looks well weighted and is my bet of the day on Saturday.

3:20 Newmarket, Red Jazz (NAP), Win. At Newmarket Red Jazz is my NAP of the day. The three year old went down at Royal Ascot to Rainfall by a small margin and in time this is form that will work out very well indeed, in my view. He gets a handy allowance and off 8st 8lb I think the Barry Hills trained colt will take some beating. He has blistering early speed which over seven furlongs is a big asset. The Hills stable is in good form and I think Red Jazz is decent. As I say my best bet of the day.

The Fred Archer Stakes at 2:45 at Newmarket looks a decent race and it will be interesting to see Man of Iron, back for his seasonal bow, I will be watching the market on this one.

Irish Derby, Sunday…5.10 Curragh

Sunday is normally a day off for us here at Racing Diary but we have the Irish Derby, an important race. Aidan O’Brien has won this I think the last five years and is certainly not going to give up his title easily. He saddled Jan Vermeer, At First Sight, Cape Blanco and Midas Touch. He is throwing everything at this and it may pay off but I think it will be Mark Johnston’s Monterosso who wins having been supplemented.  A big winner at ROyal Ascot, Frankie Dettori takes the ride and I am a big backer here. I think Mark Johnston is an exceptional trainer and I think he will win and win well.

Charlie McCann’s Weekend Free Horseracing Tips, 26-27 June

Free Horseracing Tips

By Charlie McCann

Charlie McCann from Stan James previews a big weekend of racing, here are your free horseracing tips from Charlie…..

The Northumberland Plate or Pitmen’s Derby is the big betting race of the weekend and a low draw is considered a big advantage in this valuable two-mile handicap with six of the last eight winners housed in single figures. Rajik was a big disappointment at Royal Ascot but I expect a bold show from the Irish raider today although preference is for the progressive Deauville Flyer (3.05 Newcastle) a winner of his last two starts at York.

Trained by Tim Easterby Deauville Flyer is best with plenty of cut in the ground but he showed he handles fast ground well enough when getting up close home under Kieren Fallon over an inadequate trip on his penultimate start. He carries a 5lb penalty for a smooth success on good ground on the Knavesmire last time; drawn in stall 6 he should get a good tow into the race from another potential improver in Chiberta King and he can take the valuable prize home to Yorkshire.

Northumberland Plate; Prices from StanJames.com-Nr No Bet, (1/4 the first 4)

4 Deauville Flyer
15-2 Mamlook
8 Chiberta King
10 Overturn
11 Bernie The Bolt
12 Stanstill
14 Crackentorp
14 Desert Sea
14 Drunken Sailor

It’s a slight surprise to see Dortmund dropping back in trip having finished runner up to a decent sort over 7f at Newbury last time. As a son of Dubawi he would probably prefer softer ground but he can make it third time lucky in the 4.15 for Godolphin’s new trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni. Let’s hope it’s the only thing in or involving Dortmund celebrating this weekend!

For the unpatriotic amongst you we at StanJames.com are betting 9/2 that Dortmund wins the Newcastle 4.15 and Germany beat England in 90 minutes in Sunday’s last 16 of the World Cup.

The Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes is the highlight at the Curragh this afternoon and this 10f trip looks the ideal distance for Remember When (2.20) whose stamina appeared to give way when third in the Oaks over 12f at Epsom last time. Still a maiden after four starts she receives 12lbs from her elders including the mare Chinese White who is in foal to Cape Cross the sire of the great Sea The Stars. She looks the danger in a cracking renewal.

The Irish Derby is tomorrow’s feature and at the time of writing it looks like Jonny Murtagh is going to desert his Derby mount Jan Vermeer in favour of Cape Blanco who lost his unbeaten record in the French Derby last time. Jan Vermeer (5.10 Curragh Sun) finished fourth at Epsom without ever looking happy on the track and was reported to have lost both front shoes during the race.

Aidan O’Brien has won his home Derby on no less than seven previous occasions including the last four and he will be a very short price to complete the nap hand. British raiders have a modest looking record in the race but they have two realistic contenders in Royal Ascot winner Monterosso and Derby 7th Coordinated Cut. The former won a poor renewal of the King Edward VII Stakes whilst the latter was put firmly in his place by Cape Blanco in the Dante back in May.

The Summer National is the big jumps race of the weekend at Uttoxeter tomorrow and my two against the field are That’s Rhythm and Mumbles Head (2.40) with marginal preference for the latter whose yard remain in excellent form. The form of his second to Weapon’s Amnesty at Newcastle last year reads very well in light of the winner’s subsequent Cheltenham exploits.

Deauville Flyer Backed For Northumberland Plate

Gamble on Deauville Flyer continues apace ahead of Pitmen’s Derby

The gamble on Deauville Flyer ahead of Saturday’s John Smith’s Northumberland Plate shows no sign of abating and totesport have had to cut Tim Easterby’s gelding at the head of the market for the second successive day.

Horseracing Betting Update

The son of Dubai Destination was initially priced up at 8/1 on Monday but his price had to be slashed again this afternoon after sustained support and now heads the market at 5/1 (from 7/1).

“There’s been a second wave of support for Deauville Flyer after the initial rush and Tim Easterby’s runner looks set to go off favourite for the Pitmen’s Derby should he sneak in the race,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

The news that Ascot Stakes runner-up Elyaadi misses the race has forced another couple of price changes, with Overturn now a 13/2 shot (from 8/1) and Chiberta King 8/1 (from 10/1). totesport have also cut Stanstill and Alan Swinbank’s charge is now 16/1 (from 20/1).

Elsewhere, Monterosso has been popular ahead of Sunday’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh and has been cut to 4/1 (from 5/1) by totesport after being supplemented for the race yesterday.

Jan Vermeer, Favourite For irish Derby

Jan Vermeer installed as favourite for Irish Derby

Jan Vermeer is the 2/1 favourite for the Dubai Duty Irish Derby with totesport following the news that only last week’s Royal Ascot hero Monterosso has been supplemented for Sunday’s race at the Curragh. At 5/1 it could be a good bet.

Free Horseracing Tips

Another Mark Johnston win at Royal Ascot

Aidan O’Brien has another typically strong hand as he aims to win the race for the fifth time in succession. As well as the favourite, he also has the 4/1 joint-second favourites in the shape of Cape Blanco and Midas Touch as well as Investec Derby runner-up At First Sight and probable pacemaker Bright Horizon.

Aidan O’Brien would have been disappointed with the way Jan Vermeer ran in the Investec Derby but Ballydoyle’s previous four winners of the Irish equivalent have all been beaten at Epsom before going on to win at the Curragh so the favourite is well worth another shot to prove his worth,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

The supplemented Monterosso is a 5/1 shot with totesport to add the Irish Derby to his Royal Ascot success whilst Coordinated Cut and Chabal are next in the market at 10/1 and 11/1 respectively.

Elsewhere, Deauville Flyer has been popular for the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday and has been cut to 7/1 (from 8/1) by totesport at the head of the market. Overturn has also been backed and is now the clear 8/1 second favourite (from 9/1) whilst Chiberta King is 10/1 from 11/1.

Seeking Fame and Glory with Youmzain…

Irish Derby is Fame and Glory's to win today!

Irish Derby is Fame and Glory's to win today!

It has been a great week, but it came to an end on Saturday, but Sunday should be anoter winning day for us. What’s equally disappointing is the defection of Sea The Stars from today’s Irish Derby, but the good news is he will run at Sandown next Saturday in the Eclipse.

Irish Derby…

We gave you some early prices yesterday, but Stan James are offering 11-10 about Fame and Glory this morning, so get on this now. Its the best price and its a great price!

25 Free Bet

We were on Fame and Glory (4.20) at Epsom and we should gain compensation at the Curragh by taking Aidan O.Brien’s three year-old to win at even money. I cannot see him being a much bigger price at any stage before the race and without  Sea The Stars this is genuine value in my view.In fact I think he will be odds on and win, so take 11-10 right now! Click teh Stan James advert and open an account. You will get a Free Bet when you do and will get off to a winning start at 11-10!

25 Free Bet

At Epsom he beat them all but the great horse with some critics, somewhat harshly, rounding on Seamus Heffernan’s riding tactics. Johnny Murtagh takes over in the saddle, having had the choice of six Ballydoyle runners in the race. The ground that was a worry for John Oxx should be no problem for Fame and Glory who has won on ground ranging from good to heavy. I simply can’t see this horse getting beaten today and have backed him accordingly at the early Betfair price of evens, which I think offers genuine value. Fame and Glory is the clear choice to land the Irish Derby.

Grand Prix Saint Cloud…

With fairly moderate cards at home we turn to France for the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud and the Mick Channon’s Youmzain (3.30). This horse has been unlucky but is a group one winner and, as Fame and Glory, offers backers genuine value at the early prices. I thought he would be shorter than the 2.5 available this morning  on Betfair. I would advice taking the early price and get on with Betfair.

Youmzain is a 6-year-old son of Sinndar trained by Mick Channon in Newmarket, Youmzain has been the runner-up in the last two runnings of the Arc de Triomphe. On June 5th, his nose second in the Coronation Cup, in which he split Ask and Look Here, left him second-best in that 1 1/2-mile Group 1 for the second time in two years. The 12 furlongs of Sunday’s contest, in which he picks up the services of jockey Christophe Soumillon, suit him perfectly, in a race he won last year.

So its a group one double for us on Sunday, good luck!

Following the news that John Oxx’s English Derby hero Sea The Stars is unlikely to run in the Irish equivalent tomorrow, Paddy Power suspended betting on the Irish Derby yesterday evening at just after 6.30pm. The Irish layer then replaced the market with a new book betting without Sea The Stars. Aidan O’Brien’s Fame And Glory is 10-11 favourite in the new market.

Paddy Power himself said: “It’s a great shame that Sea The Stars looks like being an absentee. But it will still be a cracking renewal with the Epsom second and third fighting it out at the top of the market and both have been popular since the doubts began to emerge about Sea The Stars’ participation.”

Paddy Power himself said: “Despite the uncertainties about the great Irish weather and Sea The Stars’ actual participation in the race, punters have obviously thought that we were a tad too generous with the 11-10 and swooped accordingly.”

Murtagh thinks Fame and Glory can beat Sea the Stars…Irish Derby, Sunday

JOHNNY MURTAGH thinks that by employing different tactics then there will be a different result when Fame And Glory takes on on Derby hero Sea The Stars in the Irish Derby at the Curragh on Sunday, 28th June. Is this a case of wishful thinking?

The exceptional Sea the Stars

The exceptional Sea the Stars

Some critics said that jockey Seamie Heffernan never tested Sea The Stars’ stamina when riding Fame And Glory at Epsom. The Mick Kinane-ridden 2000 Guineas winner became the first horse to do the Newmarket-Epsom double since Nashwan in 1989.

Johnny Murtagh, who takes over on Fame And Glory, having ridden fourth home Rip Van Winkle in the Derby, said yesterday:

“Mick really dictated the pace to the rest of us. The Curragh will be a good test, as it’s a big, galloping track, so hopefully we can put it up to Sea The Stars. I’m not going to give up on our horses yet as we’ve got two horses with massive chances in Fame And Glory and Masterofthehorse and they have definitely improved. I’m going to stick with Fame And Glory as I think he’s definitely improved at home from Epsom and he’s very solid.”

But will a change of rider and tactics bring about a different result? As much as I admire Johnny Murtagh, one of the best I have ever seen in the saddle, I think Sea the Stars is exceptional and won as easy as you like at Epsom. He will stay the trip and will just go faster! He can land a historic treble of classics and I will be on him this time.

Agree of Disagree? Then Back or Lay with Betfair!

Betfair layers are bucking the market by offering ‘industry best’ even money price on John Oxx’s Derby and Guineas winner.

Sea The Stars is as short as 2-5 in some quarters for the Irish Derby at the weekend, but the Epsom winner currently trades at an industry-best evens on Betfair for the Curragh Classic.

Fame And Glory is next best at [3.7], with Masterofthehorse a [5.3] chance on the exchange.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: “Betting is predictably light at this stage – though I dare say the £70,000 we have matched on the race is as much as been placed anywhere else in the industry – but the weakness in Sea The Stars is there for all to see.

“He traded at [2.2] at 8am this morning, and currently is a very weak even money chance. Clearly, some people think that there is a possibility that he may sidestep the race altogether.”
