Wednesday Horseracing Tips

Thank God for McCoy on days like these………

McCoy the man to follow on Wednesday

McCoy the man to follow on Wednesday

It was a great day for us yesterday with all three bets winning at pretty decent odds too. What was particularly pleasing was that the winners came in a maiden, a claimer then a handicap with my bet of the day coming home at an unbelievable SP of 7-2.

I though Holland gave They All laughed a bit too much to do and was lucky to get him home, but he did. I The sun was shining and the goods times flowed. More of the same today would do very nicely, I think you’ll agree!

Wednesday looks a difficult day and I am turning to the jumps, at Worcester for a my bets. More about that below.

To lay…

On the flat there are a couple of favourites worth to taking on, but their prices are a bit high for a serious investment.  At Carlisle Joe Jo Star (4.10) has done nothing but improve under both codes for the excellent Richard Fahey yard, but the handicapper may have his measure with a 13 pounds rise in the weights kicking in today. This looks competitive and I think Joe Jo Star will get beaten in a race full of live chances.

On Monday we laid Bataleur (9.10) who I said has been kept very busy by Mick Channon and today he is out again at Bath for another late evening run and I will be laying him yet again. Poor horse is earning his keep, but this looks a better chance than Monday though.

To back…

So to the jumps, and I will follow Tony McCoy who is simply the best jumps jockey of all time. Day in day out he turns in the winners, riding doubles and trebles, never giving up whether it be a seller at Fakenham or a big race at Cheltenham. As a punter I just love having McCoy on side. He kicks off the Worcester card with Factotum (2.20) who should follow up his impressive Uttoxeter victory by landing this novice hurdle.

I also think that the same connections will win the next on the card, a novice chase, with Native City (2.55) who has run well previously in handicaps. Running in novice company for the first time he brings by far the best form to the table in what is a weak race and should complete a double for the Champion jockey.

The Talking Horse…

I will also be backing McCoy’s mount in the last as I have heard that Budwiser (5.05) is a decent sort and is fancied to win today. There is no form to go on here, but the booking of McCoy is significant, and with good reports forthcoming this may be one to play up our winnings with a small bet on an unraced prospect.

Let’s hope for a repeat of yesterday!

Wednesday’s Bets at Worcester

2.20 Factotum, win

2.55 Native City, win

5.05 Budwiser, win

Nathan Lynch has a good thing at Warwick….

Away From Ascot…. Maybe I Wont – “Weighted To Win” At Warwick In The 4.10 says Nathan Lynch

72150152IW011_Windsor_Races

With the main betting attention for Thursday once again centred on Royal Ascot a good things has gone under the guard of punters early and should be snapped up.

Last start ultra impressive winner Maybe I Wont lines up in the 4.10 from Warwick as the top weight over 10f on the back of scoring by a idening 7l at Nottingham last start, the form refs back through the beaten brigade suggest this 4yo son of Kyllachy hit a new career peak, hard to envision for a horse that has had 36 career starts but the bottom line factor here is it was only the 2nd time the horse hads been tried over 10f and it has only been 8f or further on 7 occasions, the last 6 of them on end, so realistically it is pretty new to the staying caper but has taken to it with aplomb.

Yes it is a sprinting pedigree on the sires side but he is out of a Robellino mare suggesting 10f should pose no problems with progeny of Robellino winning over an average of 10.2f, a lot of the time earlier in its career it was ridden closer to the pace and it is only as the distances have stretched out recently for it that it has been settled near the rear of the field, obviously the change of racing style has also suited it hitting the line very strongly in recent times with big closing pars.

The last start win by 7l suggests over these longer trips it is well above the class required to win here.

At 5.00 currently on exchanges MAYBE I WONT represents huge value on the exchanges in the 4.10 from WARWICK and is likely to be heavily supported into closer to 3.00 come post time. True value in our assessed market is 2.60, jump all over the 5.00 on offer now, plenty of value around for everyone.

Nathan’s Lays of the Day…

Some solid laying action early in the day from all venues. After assessing markets vs true value below is my best lays for the day up until the 4.10 from Warwick…. a further update will follow for the rest of the races in the day session soon.

UK - Ripon 2.10 Danzoe (8.60), Warwick 2.20 Acrosstheuniverse (7.40), Ascot 3.05 Leocorno (3.20), Ripon 3.20 Gap Princess (5.30), Warwick 3.30 Squirtle (6.40), Warwick 3.30 Sir Sandcliffe (7.60), Ascot 3.45 Patkai (4.70), Ripon 4.00 Cobo Bay (7.60), Warwick 4.10 Karky Schulz (6.40), Ripon 4.35 Sixth Zak (8.40), Warwick 4.45 Whiteoak Lady (9.00), Ripon 5.10 Kudu Country (8.60), Warwick 5.20 Cool Ebony (8.00)

Price in brackets is Betfair odds at time of identifying each lay, some may have drifted, some may have firmed, never lay any of these runners over 10/1. Bet to win 1 unit per lay.

Thursday’s Horseracing Betting Tips…18th June

Can Yeats do it?

Another big day in store at Royal Ascot. We have already previewed day three at Royal Ascot, click here. The big race of the day is the Gold Cup in which Yeats will be going for a fourth consecutive Gold Cup.

Timeform have evaluated the Gold Cup, interestingly;

Timeform’s  view on Thursday’s big race, the Gold Cup.

Yeats goes for an historic fourth consecutive Gold Cup win at Ascot tomorrow and, despite running a shocker on his reappearance at Navan in April, Timeform are keeping the faith with the eight-year-old.

And so are the Betfair punters, who have installed him as the [3.25] favourite for the Ascot staying crown.

Timeform relate that he ran an amazing four stone below form at Navan, but still have him 5lb clear of Thursday’s opposition.

Timeform spokesman Kieran Packman explained: “The Gold Cup revolves around Yeats, there’s no doubting that, as he bids for an unprecedented fourth success.

“A replication of the form shown in any of his previous three wins will be good enough, but the fact he’s available at the price he is obviously stems from his uncharacteristically dismal reappearance.

“On that occasion, on heavy ground, he ran some four stone below his best, by some way his worst performance since disappointing in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud way back in 2005.

“Given stamina/well-being concerns surround Eastern Anthem, who’s second top-rated on his Nad Al Sheba win in March, and Geordieland is held by Yeats on all three previous meetings, Yeats strikes us as well worth keeping faith with at current odds.”

Timeform Ratings for Gold Cup (weight-adjusted)

Yeats 140
Eastern Anthem 135
Geordieland 134
Veracity 131
Patkai 130
Sagara 126
Washington Irving 125
Centennial 125
Hindu Kush 121

US Racing..G1 Acorn Stakes- From the Horses Mouth

Acorn Stakes. (Grade 1). 1 Mile Dirt. Purse $300,000. 3yo fillies.

Run at Belmont Park, Race 9 – Saturday, June 6th, 2009,

Nathan Lynch of From The Horses Mouth marks your card for tonight’s US Racing…

Acorn Stakes @ Belmont Park

Acorn Stakes @ Belmont Park

A decent field greets us for the 2009 renewal of the Acorn Stakes and 4 horses come in here with realistic chances of taking G1 glory.

Justwhistledixie will be sent out a short priced favourite going on early markets and is a 2.60 prepost elect but with 3 other serious chances she is a risky commodity at that short quote.

The pace scenario will be critical here and it is Gabby’s Golden Gal who is likely to benefit most under the pace scenario drawn down in the 2 alley, she is likely to find the front upon jumping without working early and try to dictate the pace on the front end.

We can forget her last start effort in the Kentucky Oaks which Rachel Alexandra won by a staggering 20l margin, that day she was forced to set a solid pace on the front end as Rachel Alexandra stalked and pressed her through the middle stages, the start prior she won the Sunland Park Oaks at only her 4th career start by a widening 13l margin, our video comment from that run suggests she is well above average and reads “evenly away then forward to sit outside one other coleading at a solid tempo, eased slightly and wide into 1st bend -0.5l 2nd outside coleader, same round 1st turn then as pace slackened down the back pushed on to cross coleader and find fence leading +1l, slowed the tempo before the turn dictating as initial coleader pushed up outside it, field bunching, given minor reign before the home bend, slipped 1.5l clear quickly with further gaps back, chasers under pressure into the bend, +3l 1/4 pole travelling well, straightened 7l clear under hand riding, +9l furlong marker and changed strides, kept finding in deep stretch extending margin to 13l on the line, still strong on the line, clearly superior, big scope for more”.

That effort in $200K stakes company suggests she was well above her foes and up to top class Graded stakes events in the future.

She is very well bred by Medaglia D’oro out of an Ashkalani mare giving her the Sadler’s Wells * Danzig nick which has produced a multitude of top class milers over time.

Dropping back to the mile here after contesting the Kentucky Oaks she will give them something to run down in deep stretch after dictating the pace on the front end.

She obviously took no harm from her Kentucky Oaks failure after working a bullet 1:00.6 over 5f on June 1 in prep for this as the 2nd quickest of 28 moves on the day.

A big value commodity in this race in our eyes.

The major queries to her chances come in the form on Livin Lovin who is by Birdstone out of a Captain Bodgit mare, it resumes from a 7 month break here after annexing a G3 mile race at Aqueduct back in November by 4.2l, 2nd and 3rd both came out and won their next starts adding good depth and merit to the winners performance that day.

Dream Play also has serious claims on the back of scoring by widening 5l margin in the G2 Comely at Aqueduct back in April but that was on sloppy going so the margin was personified somewhat by the track. She is also a query over a strong high class mile being by Hennessy out of a Saratoga Six mare, both sire and dam sire get their best at 6.5f to 7f.

The other major hope is Justwhistledixie who has won its last 5 on end including G2 successes at each of its last 2 starts but the margins haven’t been great and last time it was fluked and flattered by a perfect trip tracking an above average par time through the early and middle stages, she is decently bred by Dixie Union out of a Honour And Glory mare but it is in no way an out and out G1 pedigree.

On this basis we feel Gabby’s Golden Gal is huge value at the prepost price of 15/1, it is unlikely she will end up going around at that price, smart video students will see the merit in her Sunland Park Oaks win, more likely you can expect 8/1 or similar come past time but that is still very good value.

PREDICTED FINISHING ORDER AND ASSESSED ODDS

1st – Gabby’s Golden Gal – 3.80

2nd – Dream Play – 4.50

3rd – Justwhistledixie – 5.00

4th – Livin Lovin – 6.00

BETTING ADVICE:

Win Betting: Gabby’s Golden Gal is very good value considering we have her marked up as a true value 3.80 chance here and prepost she is being quoted on the 16/00 or 15/1 line, we expect her to start shorter than this price but 8/1 should be available which is big overs compared to our assessed price. Dream Play is also at 6/1 prepost and should be available above the assessed price of 4.50 so she too is worth saving on, basically we suggest backiung both these horses with the major emphasis on Gabby’s Golden Gal to roll the short priced favorite Justwhisltedixie.

Place Betting: It is rather obvious that Gabby’s Golden Gal is the way to go here too, her true place price should be around the 1.90 mark, exchange puners will get well above that for first 3 place betting whilst USA tote players will get easily well above that price for the show.

Lay Betting: 3 runners that are all on the 6/1 line prepost represent the value lays being Casanova Move, Doremifasollatido, Four Gifts. As long as you can lay at less than 10/1 or 11.00 on any of these three then lay as many of them as possible, our top 4 elects as mentioned above will fight this race out.

Delegator to Face 8 Rivals in The Irish 2000 Guineas (23rd May)

Grounds for Concern Over Delegator…

delegatorwinscraven2009513_largeimage

Delegator will face 8 rivals as well as very heavy ground when he lines up for the Boylesports Irish 2,000 Guineas, at The Curragh on Saturday, in which Aidan O’Brien will have 4 decent runners including provenmud-lark Mastercraftsman.

Delegator is rated as the best horse in the race but the going is a concern. It will be a chance to put Newmarket 2000 Guineas form to the test – Sea The Stars Won and Delegator was second but that was Fast, drying ground, a contrast to that which will be under foot on Saturday.

The Ballydoyle runners are Hail Caesar, Drumbeat, Viceroy of India and Mastercraftsman. Speaking about the race Aidan O’Brien said;

“The ground is not ideal for any horse, but Mastercraftsman has handled it before and he is a very versatile horse. I’ve been happy with him since he ran at Newmarket.”

Richard Hannon will be looking to land a £1 million Euros bonus with Soul City after he won a Sales race at The Curragh last September. Kevin Prendergast runs Recharge, who won at Leopardstown last time out. Prendergast said;

“It was fast going when he won, but this time the ground is going to be testing. We hope it doesn’t kill him”

It should be a good race!

12-1 Zaahid to Retain his Victoria Cup at Ascot

Johnny Murtagh will hope to put the Chester May meeting behind him as quickly as possible. He had a mare yesterday, Drumbeat was given too much to do and Frozen Fire’s race was a nothing short of a farce. He was lucky to salvage a dead heat on Empowered, having seen Richard Hughes get first run on Red Merlin. He should have won that on Empowered!

The reality is that Chester is over and we have to move on. Today Ascot takes centre-stage where the big punting race is the Victoria Cup (2.15). There are a mere 29 runners lining up for this  handicap won 12 months ago by Zaahid who is looking to retain the cup. Barry Hills is in red hot, brilliant form, illustrated when winning the Chester Cup for Zaahid’s connections.

The entire 5 year-old was second in The Lincoln, behind the very well backed Expresso Star then went to Newbury where  the soft ground didn’t suit and he was eased down. Back on fast ground today Zaahid is only 2 pounds higher in the weights than his Lincoln run and only 6 pounds higher than last years winning mark.

Being drawn in stall 12 should be ideal for Zaahid, being similar to last years stall 14. At 12-1 zaahid is an each-way bet.  He should certainly finish in the first 4.

It is a pretty early start at Ascot with the first race off at 1.05 in which Duncan can follow up his Epsom win. That was his first start for the Gosden team, having previously been trained by Ed Dunlop. Backed like a good thing,  he duly proved to be and bolted up. Gosden has wasted no time in stepping Duncan up to Listed company and it looks like he is a pretty decent horse and should win again.

It is another Derby Trial  at Lingfield (3.15) today. Aidan O’Brien saddles the favourite, Age Of Aquarius who I think will win but I hope Johnny Murtagh rides Lingfield much better than he did Chester and gains some compensation for his backers.
