Delegator to Face 8 Rivals in The Irish 2000 Guineas (23rd May)

Grounds for Concern Over Delegator…

Delegator will face 8 rivals as well as very heavy ground when he lines up for the Boylesports Irish 2,000 Guineas, at The Curragh on Saturday, in which Aidan O’Brien will have 4 decent runners including provenmud-lark Mastercraftsman.

Delegator is rated as the best horse in the race but the going is a concern. It will be a chance to put Newmarket 2000 Guineas form to the test – Sea The Stars Won and Delegator was second but that was Fast, drying ground, a contrast to that which will be under foot on Saturday.

The Ballydoyle runners are Hail Caesar, Drumbeat, Viceroy of India and Mastercraftsman. Speaking about the race Aidan O’Brien said;

“The ground is not ideal for any horse, but Mastercraftsman has handled it before and he is a very versatile horse. I’ve been happy with him since he ran at Newmarket.”

Richard Hannon will be looking to land a £1 million Euros bonus with Soul City after he won a Sales race at The Curragh last September. Kevin Prendergast runs Recharge, who won at Leopardstown last time out. Prendergast said;

“It was fast going when he won, but this time the ground is going to be testing. We hope it doesn’t kill him”

It should be a good race!

Delegator Second to Sea The Stars at Newmarket

Brian Meehan trained Delegator is among 17 entrants for Saturday’s Boylesports Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh.

Delegator was sent off favourite for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket but despite a good run he was second behind Sea The Stars.

“Delegator seems to have taken the Guineas very well,” Meehan wrote on his official website.

Meehan added; “We had originally considered giving the Curragh a miss and heading straight to Royal Ascot, but he did his final piece of work this morning and he went very well under his regular work rider, who was very pleased with him. So all looks good again and Meehan went on;

“We shall have to monitor the ground at The Curragh, but it looks as though it will be an easier surface than at Newmarket and that should suit him well.”

Jamie Spencer will be taking the ride and Racing Diary will of course be looking to find you the winner once again!

The time was good and Brian Meehan says the horse will have improved for the run. There were doubts about his running on the ground, but he will run and is favourite. Will need to be closer to the pace.

In summary Delegator is the best horse we have seen so far, but the Aiden O’Brien horses can not be disgarded. The record of favourites is not great in the 2000 Guineas, but Delegator showed his class in the 2000 Guineas trail at Newmarket. he will need to be ridden closer to the pace and Jamie Spencer will need to be at his best. This is a hard race to call, but given what I have seen so far, Delegator is the one to be on for the Stan James 2000 Guineas, Saturday, Newmarket – 3.10 Live on Channel 4.

1000 Guineas..Final Declarations & Tips

After months of speculation the 1000 Guineas has finally arrived, and we now have the final declarations for the Race run at Newmarket on Sunday, shown Live on Channel 4.

The 1000 Guineas is sponsored by Stan James, who are giving a 5% Bonus on all win bets in the 1000 Guineas, so you must take advantage of the Free Bet and the win bonus offered by Stan James.

Reader of Racing Diary were advised to Back Rain Bow view earlier in the season and indeed we have already made money on this race by laying Fantasia at a short price with the conviction that she would not win.

We look at the major players from the field of 15 runners. Rainbow View heads the market at 11/10, 5/4 in places. Again we advised clients before the Nell Gwynn to take a bigger price, so far so good!

Lets start with some stats (courtesy of formbet)

  • 12 from the last 20 winners were in the top-two in the betting market
  • All of the last 20 winners were under 14/1
  • 6 of the last 7 winners had won their last race
  • 18 of the last 20 winners had raced in Group Company in their last run

  • 16 of the last 20 winners had raced at either Newmarket or Newbury last time out

Group 1 winner on final 2 year old start, beating Fantasia who won Nell Gwyn. Unbeaten and makes season reappearance in this Classic. Described as Wild by the trainer, but is a worthy favourite. The horse that beats her will win!

serious_attitudeSerious Attitude- 5/1

Rae Guest trains this filly who cost only 7500 Guineas and has already netted the owners £158k. Wintered well says trainer and won the Cheveley Park last term. Gosden rates her as main danger to Rainbow View.

cuis_hhaireCuis Ghaire – 10/1

Jim Bolger won the 1000 Guineas in 2007, and Kevin Manning will be on board Cuis Ghaire on Sunday. The stable had big winners last year with Lush Lashes and New Approach and know a good horse when they see one. Cuis Ghaire won the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, over six furlongs but suffered  two subsequent defeats. Very Good Each Way Bet.

lahaleebLahaleeb – 12/1

Won the Dubai Duty Free at Newbury last season. She is tough, but isn’t very big. Very hard to see her reversing the Doncaster form with Rainbow View.

ghanaatiGhanaati – 16/1

Very well bred, hacked up in her Kempton maiden. Hill’s stable has been in good form this year but punters should wait to see what the market thinks. Has been backed at 300/1 on Betfair. Well backed but would need to be very good.

againAgain – 16/1

Ryan Moore gets the ride for David Watchman. Disappointed in the Prix Marcel Boussac (14th) but has a Group One win to her name. More of an Oaks type.

shimahShimah- 16/1

Was beaten fair and square by Again last year. Trainer has made good noises, but will need to have improved.

nashmiahNashmiah- 25/1

Jamie Spencer booked and I have heard very good reports about this filly coming from the Clive Brittain stable.

We have already given you Rainbow View. Not original but she looks the real deal. The fact that the owner too Fantasia out suggests all is well with Rainbow View.

Rainbow View has hardened up at the head of the 1000 Guineas market as Fantasia has been taken out. This will come as no surprise to Racing Diary Readers who were told to Lay Fantasia for the 1000 Guineas.

Owner George Strawbridge has taken Fantasia out of Sunday’s Stan James 1000 Guineas and Rainbow View has hardened as favourite. This again will come as no surprise to Racing Diary readers. We told you to back Rainbow View before the Nell Gwyn Stakes.

John Gosden’s filly was a major morning drifter for the Classic but is now 6/5  to make a winning reappearance at the weekend.

Now Rainbow View just needs to win the 1000 Guineas. The absence of Fantasia Suggests all is well with Rainbow View.
