Goldikova Makes #BreedersCup History

Goldikova completed a hat-trick of Breeders’ Cup Mile victories at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Ridden with supreme confidence by Olivier Peslier, the magnificent French mare produced her trademark blistering burst of acceleration to cut down her rivals in the Kentucky straight.

A baron spell for Europe at this year’s Breeders’ Cup ended in superlative style on Saturday when Goldikova bounded to victory for an historic third consecutive win in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Watch this……..

Early traffic problems and a keen running style set some worries during the early stages of the race, but all doubts were cast aside at the two-furlong pole when the daughter of Anabaa set the track alight with her now characteristic fiery run.

Victory was never in doubt by the furlong pole as she skipped clear ahead of Gio Ponti, and a fast-finishing Paco Boy.

British bookmakers William Hill responded to the victory by installing Goldikova as a 7-2 chance to make it a quartet of wins in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: ‘’Goldikova’s audacious owners have already proved that they dream the unthinkable by returning to the Breeders for three wins, and they have yet to rule out an attempt at a fourth. Goldikova’s seemingly effortless third win turned her from a modern great into a legend. Surely a fourth win would make her an equine god.’’

Charlie McCann’s Weekend #Horseracing Betting Preview

The Breeders’ Cup is the weekend racing highlight with the brilliant unbeaten six-year-old American mare Zenyatta looking to retire after a 20th successive victory in the big race of the night the Classic. She gave the boys a start and a beating on the Pro-Ride surface of Santa Anita last year but can she follow up on the Kentucky dirt?

Jockey Mike Smith celebrates aboard Zenyatta after winning the Breeders' Cup Classic thoroughbred horse race at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California November 7, 2009. REUTERS/Fred Greaves

The whole of America is behind her, but it should be noted that she has only run once against the boys in her 19 career wins and there are some, myself included, who do not feel she will be as effective on today’s surface especially as her come from behind tactics will mean she will get her fair share of kickback.

Looking At Lucky (10.45) would have been a confident selection had it not been for his dreadful draw in stall 13 but the hope is that jockey Garrett Gomez can get the Preakness Stakes’ winner into a challenging position at the first bend from his coffin box. The selection has eased in the betting from 7/2 to 5/1 with StanJames.com as a result of the draw but we should know our fate by the first turn.

If Zenyatta is to retire undefeated she is likely to have to pass the vast majority of the field and she normally circles her field. She showed last year she was a special mare. Tonight will show us if she deserves to be called one of the sports’ greats.

Earlier on in the card French winning machine Goldikova is bidding to become the first horse in history to land three Breeders’ Cups. She showed she was as good as ever when winning the Prix Foret at Longchamp last time and has finished in front of Paco Boy on each of the four times they have met. She overcame a moderate draw at Santa Anita last year and could have been more fortunate with the draw again tonight.

Ryan Moore takes over from Richard Hughes on Paco Boy as the latter is embroiled in a battle for the jockeys’ title which has gone down to the wire at Doncaster. It would be somewhat ironic if Paco Boy was to finish in front of Goldikova for the first time without the assistance of Hughes, but I look elsewhere for the winner and suggest Gio Ponti (8.40) can keep the prize at home.

The forecast firm ground won’t inconvenience Gio Ponti who finished runner up to Zenyatta over 10f in last year’s Classic. He will need an end-to-end gallop at a mile given he needs holding up, but he showed a smart turn of foot at Keeneland last time and may cause a shock.

The dual former Gold Cup winner Kauto Star (2.25) is in action at Down Royal and cannot be opposed given there remain stamina doubts about his main market rival Arkle winner Sizing Europe staying 3m. Kauto Star is nearing his 11th birthday and is unlikely to be getting any better, but he goes well fresh, is arguably better going right-handed and ought to make a winning reappearance.

As long as there is no significant rain at Wincanton I am keen on the chances of Kerada (1.40) who has a big pull in the weights with Banjaxed Girl on Newbury running back in the spring. Some of the stables’ inmates have been needing a run but as long as the ground is no worse than good to soft Kerada must take some beating off 10st 5lbs.

Champion trainer Paul Nicholls has a couple of runners in the Elite Hurdle and jockey bookings would suggest that American Trilogy is the one despite not having run for 690 days. The grey is a former Festival winner but I just favour Tito Bustillo (2.10) in a cracking renewal. The selection showed with his two wins at Taunton last year that a tight handed track is his optimum conditions and this could be his best chance of a big race win this term.

I hope the 2010 flat jockeys’ title is shared by Paul Hanagan and Richard Hughes and the latter is aboard Senate (3.10 Doncaster) who has long been at the top of my November Handicap shortlist and will appreciate the forecast good to soft ground.

At Sandown Sonny Mullen (3.30) is taken to go one better having jumped well on his chase debut at Ffos Las over 2m 4f. Kim Bailey has his horses in excellent form and with the step up in trip a plus he merits nap material.

Goldikova Looking Good Ahead Of Breeders Cup

Freddie Head has said that Goldikova‘s preparation for a record-breaking third successive victory in the TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile in America on November 6 is going smoothly.

Free Horseracing Tips

Goldikova- magnificent

The trainer, speaking at his yard on the edge of Chantilly, France, said:

Goldikova‘s work has been good and she seems in great form. We haven’t changed anything this year and had the same prep race. It was even better this year as we won the Prix de la Foret so for the moment all is well. I don’t think she can do better than she is.”

The five-year-old’s two previous wins in the TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile came at the Californian track of Santa Anita Park, whereas Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, hosts this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships. But Head is not worried by the change of venue, with Goldikova aiming to be the first horse to win three Breeders’ Cup races. He commented:

Going to Churchill Downs this year does not change much – all the American tracks are about the same.

The weather may be a little cooler. I don’t want too much rain. They have been having a very dry spell there and I hope it lasts. Even if it does rain, the ground is not going to be as soft as it was at Longchamp the other day (for the Prix de la Foret). She is travelling to America on Saturday – it takes 12 hours – she ships to Louisville or Lexington with a stop at Stansted to put the English horses on the plane. She is a very good traveller and does not sweat much. We had a very bad draw last year – we had ridden from the front in the Prix de la Foret and got beat and so I told Olivier (Peslier) to wait a bit with her – he was a bit further back than we wanted but that is the way races turn out.

I was a little worried for sure – she was a long way behind the leaders in the back straight. But Olivier knew what he was doing. This year we led again in the Prix de la Foret but she did not fight with him – that was the big difference. She is very fast – she loves the speed. There is no doubt that is why she is so brilliant in the States because they start fast which we do not do here – the stalls open and everybody stops and holds back. The faster they go, the better she is and firm ground is good for her. She does a seven-furlong gallop every day – usually she goes out second lot at 9.30am or so.Her last good work will be on Thursday with Olivier but she does not need much – she is very forward in her preparation. She will then just tick over in America.

The draw is going to be important in America. I don’t want Goldikova to be drawn on the outside again. It will be up to Olivier how he rides the race – you have to let jockeys do what they want. Paco Boy is a super horse – so tough and genuine. Gio Ponti if he runs, will be the one to beat this year I suppose – he is a very good horse – second in the Classic last year. Proviso is a good mare – normally we have beaten her but she is at home over there now.”

Misty For Me new 6/1 joint-favourite for 1000 Guineas

Record-breaking Goldikova 5/4 for Breeders’ Cup Mile

Superstar mare Goldikova has been slashed into 5/4 favourite (from 2/1) with totesport for the Breeders’ Cup Mile after landing her eleventh Group One victory in the Qatar Prix De La Foret at Longchamp this afternoon.

Olivier Peslier’s mount led the field early on in the contest but dropped behind Regal Parade early in the straight. However, Goldikova was always travelling strongly and only required gentle encouragement to move back ahead and record a cosy success by half-a-length from old adversary Paco Boy.

Following his second-place finish from a less than ideal draw in stall ten, Paco Boy is now clear second-favourite for the Mile at 5/1 (from 7/1) but will have to put up a lifetime best performance if he is to deny Goldikova a third consecutive win at Churchill Downs in November.

Breeders’ Cup Mile – totesport bet: 5/4 (from 2) Goldikova, 5 (from 7) Paco Boy, 6 Poet’s Voice, Rip Van Winkle, 9 Makfi, Starspangledbanner, 11 Sidneys Candy, 14 Courageous Cat, Fuisse, Wasted Tears, 16 General Quarters, 20 Battle Of Hastings, Get Stormy, Proviso, 25 Interactif, Loup Breton.

Misty For Me has leapt to the head of the 1000 Guineas market after taking the scalp of Helleborine in the Total Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp this afternoon. She is now rated a 6/1 shot (from 10/1) with the Wigan-based firm.

Goldikova - record breaker

Aidan O’Brien’s filly, winning her second Group One race in succession, tracked the strong pace set by Mambia before kicking on a furlong from home to record a one-length victory from Helleborine. Misty for Me is now joint-favourite for the fillies’ classic alongside White Moonstone.

Pre-race favourite Helleborine played up slightly at the start but travelled notably well approaching the furlong pole but she did not find as much as expected and remains unchanged for the Guineas at 8/1 totesport.

‘Misty For Me is clearly a filly on the upgrade and has arguably put up the leading performance we’ve seen from a two-year-old filly this year. However, we don’t think Criquette Head-Maarek will have given up hope of turning the tables on better ground next spring’ said totesport spokesman Andrew Griffiths.

The Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere provided Richard Fahey with his maiden Group One success as money-spinning colt Wootten Bassett recorded his fifth consecutive victory. Paul Hanagan’s mount was never headed throughout the contest and ground his rivals into submission; subsequently he has been given a 12/1 quote with totesport for the 2000 Guineas.

2000 Guineas – totesport bet: 2 Frankel, 4 Dream Ahead, 10 Casamento, Pathfork, Saamidd, 12 (first show) Wootten Bassett 14 Strong Suit, Zoffany, 16 Dunboyne Express, Peter Martins, 20 Glor Na Mara, 25 Janood, Libranno, Native Khan, Neebras, 33 Casual Glimpse, Ecliptic, Elzaam, King Torus, Waiters Dream, 40 Zaidan.

Sunday: Goldikova v Paco Boy

On Sunday Group One Superstar Goldikova will take on Paco Boy once again. Richard Hannon junior is excited about a rematch with Goldikova with Paco Boy in the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville on Sunday.

Free Horseracing Tips

Goldikova- magnificent

You have to say that Goldikova is the one to beat and with a half decent price is worth a serious bet, she is a winning machine. I can’t see that paco Boy can beat Goldikova.  Trainer Richard Hannon’s son and assistant is confident, however, that Paco Boy will once again give her a run for her money, having finished a close second in the Queen Anne Stakes. He said:

“He’s heading over to France tonight and is in really good form. I think everyone is relishing taking on Goldikova again and I think he’s got every chance. On the Ascot run there isn’t a lot between them and he worked super on Thursday, so lets go for it. I think the ground is on the soft side of good at the moment, which will be fine for him. It would be great for the horse to claim a big scalp like Goldikova and we think he’s got a good chance.”

While Paco Boy and Goldikova take top billing, 2000 Guineas winner Makfi is an interesting contender for Mikel Delzangles. The three-year-old needs to bounce back to form, however, having disappointed in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

Betting Advice: If the price is right it has to be Goldikova to Win!

Goldikova Lands Her Tenth Group One Win

Goldikova took her Group One tally to 10 when winning the Prix Rothschild at Deauville for the third year running. What can you say about this mare, a superstar and the best miler I have ever seen…

Goldikova wins 10th Group One

Freddie Head’s amazing five-year-old mare blitzed the opposition with another incredible performance. Leading a furlong and a half out in the hands of Olivier Peslier, the 1-3 shot won in brilliant style from Music Show. Goldikova’s stablemate Only Green set the pace from Music Show, with the hot favourite tracking the leaders. The race was settled as soon as Peslier asked Goldikova for her effort about two furlongs out, and hard as the Mick Channon-trained Music Show tried she could not get close enough to strike a serious blow.

The other British raider, Mark Johnston’s Rainfall, threatened briefly under Kieren Fallon but could not maintain her challenge in the final furlong and was edged for third by Elusive Wave. The victory means Goldikova joins the former Head-ridden Miesque as the only horse to have won 10 Group One races since the inception of the Pattern in 1970. Like Miesque, she has claimed two Breeders’ Cup Miles and Paddy Power left her unchanged at 6-4 to add an unprecedented third at Churchill Downs in November.

Goldikova win ninth Group One at Royal Ascot

A great piece of training by Freddie Head who said of his superstar mare Goldikova;

“When Paco Boy came I was a little scared, but when she gets to the front she is never beaten. She always finds something else, she is extraordinary. Olivier is the rider. He does what he wants. I am just the trainer and I felt she was at her best today and she showed it, I think. He came a bit early, but it was perfect. She was relaxed in the race and I was never worried really. I suppose now we are going to Deauville, for the Rothschild and afterwards the Jacques le Marois.”

Goldikova has been installed as a 7-4 chance to become the first horse to ever win three consecutive Breeders’ Cups after the French wonder-mare completed an impressive win in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot this afternoon.

Equiano won the Kings Stand Stakes completing a British 1-2-3. The first winner of this race for Barry Hills and the first horse ever to regain the Kings Stand Stakes. A great ride by Michael Hills. Kingsgate Native was no where, something seemed to have gone wrong, he had beaten Equiano and Borderlescott easily last time.

Easy Royal Ascot Winner..Canford Cliffs

Canford Cliffs won the St James’ Palace Stakes under a very confident ride by Richard Hughes. It was a one two for Richard Hannon as Dick Turpin was second. He lost a shoe but still managed to win and get his revenge on Makfi and Dick Turpin. A wonderful horse who can now go on and prove this in future. Aidan O’Brien had another poor result, his season is going from bad to worse.

Strong Suit got up in the final stride to land the Coventry Stakes and complete a near 10-1 double for the Richard Hannon team at Royal Ascot. Just 35 minutes after the success of Canford Cliffs in the St James’s Palace Stakes, Strong Suit struck for the trainer and jockey team.

What a great day for Racing Diary Royal Ascot Betting Bonanza, hope you made plenty!

The day began with gold with an impressive victory for the well-backed French mare Goldikova, and the midas touch continued for punters throughout the opening day of Royal Ascot.

William Hill again adopting an aggressive pricing stance for the Royal Meeting, offered industry best prices in the morning going standout 7-4 about Goldikova (returned 11/8), 11-4 Strong Suit (15/8) , and joint industry-best for Canford Cliffs.

The firm were saved a final blow with the defeat of Ghimaar in the Ascot Stakes, after an intrepid ride by Seb Sanders aboard Junior thwarted early-backers who had taken the 11-2.

David Hood, spokesman for William Hill, said: ‘’ Too many good things won today to satisfy a bookmaker. But punters buoyed by a healthy profit have definitely spun-up their winnings on the pair of Hannon hotpots. We’re on the ropes after day one, but decades of experience tell us this is a long five-round battle.’’

Following an impressive victory in the Coventry Stakes Strong Suit was quoted by Hills as a 10-1 favourite for next year’s 2000 Guineas. Runner-up Elzaam was also inserted at 14-1.

Aidan O’Brien, trainer of Rip Van Winkle in the Queen Anne Stakes;

He told The Racing Post: “Rip Van Winkle is in good form and we think that he has done really well from three to four and definitely gone the right way. But because he hasn’t had a run this year, we are genuinely worried about his fitness, as most of our horses usually come on a good bit from their first run.”

Richard Hannon trainer of Paco Boy in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot says;

Paco Boy worked well with Lucky General this morning and is in great shape for his clash with Goldikova and Rip Van Winkle in the Queen Anne Stakes, which should be a humdinger of an opener to the meeting,” the trainer told his official website, www.richardhannonracing.tv.

Olivier Peslier jockey of Goldikova in Royal Ascot Queen Anne Stakes says;

Obviously Goldikova has won eight Group Ones and Paco Boy is a very strong horse, but mine broke the record last time for a mile and a furlong,” Peslier told At The Races. It depends how she starts how I will ride her in the race. It also depends on the pace if I ride her near the front or at the back. Just before the start, she’s not easy to go in the gate. That’s the only point that is tricky with her.”

Freddie Head trainer of Goldikova said;

I am very hopeful she is in the best form and I think she will run a cracking race. I would love to win at Royal Ascot. I haven’t been lucky there but I think she will turn things around,” the French trainer told At The Races.

Olivier Peslier jockey of Makfi at Royal Ascot in the St James’ Palace Stakes says;

I think his chances are very good. He won the 2000 Guineas. It was a bit of a surprise but it was a good win last time and the trainer is confident,” he told At The Races. Makfi has been working well but now this is Ascot and he needs to confirm the form. I hope I win the race, of course, but it is very strong and will not be easy. The horse is pretty well and I hope he can run a big race”

Richard Hannon Trainer of Canford Cliffs in The St James’ Palace Stakes….

He has improved physically since our Guineas and now looks tremendous. He was too keen in the Greenham and again at Newmarket, but he was awesome when he finally got a proper pace in Ireland and while we are certainly not underestimating Makfi, who is lightly raced and can only improve, we have also gone forward as you saw at the Curragh.”

Paco Boy runs at Royal Ascot

There are no free horseracing tips on Monday, why bother when Royal Ascot is just 24 hours away?  We will also have a Royal Ascot Betting Podcast every day, with expert advice from racing experts,it is going to be brilliant, (thats the racing, as for the betting podcast you can decide!).

2:30 Royal Ascot, Queen Anne Stakes; Goldikova, Win.

What can I say about this mare? Goldikova is one of the best filly / mare of all time in my view. A dual Breeders Cup winner she has won just about everything. The 2010 renewal of the Queen Anne Stakes is a brilliant race and one that sets a huge standard. Last year’s winner Paco Boy is back to defend his crown and we have Rip Van Winkle in here just to make it a simply amazing race.

I personally love both Paco Boy and Goldikova. Rip Van Winkle is rated as the best horse in the race and he is a very good colt. He had some serious duels with Sea The Stars last season, running him close, and comes here without a run this term. Paco Boy has been running well, winning at Sandown and the Group One Lockinge Stakes last time at Newbury. I thought that was a below par Group One and I think this is a much better race than the one he won last year.
totesport.com
Goldikova gets a handy mare’s weight allowance. She warmed up for this with yet another Group One win in France. She is a machine and I think she has the class to beat the boys here, though Rip Van Winkle could, if running at his best beat her. I know Aidan O’Brien is a master, but its tough to come straight to Royal Ascot, the Queen Anne Stakes and win first time out. In a close race with three of the best horses in the World, for I take GOLDIKOVA to win the Royal Ascot opener.

Goldikova to win the Royal Ascot Queen Anne Stakes

3:05 Royal Ascot, Kings Stand Stakes, Kingsgate Native, Win

From one Group One to another. That is why Royal Ascot Betting is the best week of the year for punters. For me this is straight forward. Equiano has beaten Borderlescott twice this season and Kingsgate Native beat Equiano (second) and Borderlescott (third) in the Temple Stakes at Newbury (click to watch the race free). To be blunt he beat them easily, on his seasonal debut. As you can see he won almost hands and heels. I think KINGSGATE NATIVE is a banker to win the Kings Stand Stakes. He usually gets better for his first run. Now gelded he will be a much better horse.Sir Michael Stoute is simple an amazing trainer, Ryan moore the Champion jockey, I think every box is ticked. He will win readily and can focus on racing now he has been cut.

The Tuesday NAP, Royal Ascot Betting Tip of the day is KINGSGATE NATIVE. Lump on!

Easy Royal Ascot Winner..Canford Cliffs

3:50 Royal Ascot, St James’ Palace Stakes, Canford Cliffs, Win.

It is a rematch between Stan James 2000 Guineas winner Makfi the second Dick Turpin and the third Canford Cliffs. Watch the 2000 Guineas for free here. CANFORD CLIFFS went to Ireland and won the Irish 2000 Guineas easily. I think Royal Ascot will suit Canford Cliffs better than Newmarket and Richard Hughes I think will sit closer to the pace. Makfi is a good horse. he could be exceptional, but I am prepared to back Richard Hannon’s three year old, who blasted the Coventry Stakes in 2009. Richard Hughes sticks with Canford Cliffs, rightly so. Hannon has said that Canford Cliffs is exceptional so I expect a run like that in Ireland rather than what we saw at Newmarket. It will be close and any one of the three could win.

The winner will come from one of these three, I am sure. Canford Cliffs for me but he will be no value.
totesport.com

4:25 Royal Ascot, Coventry Stakes, Strong Suit, Win.

A very small play here is my advice, too many unknowns. Canford Cliffs destroyed the field last season and I am looking at the card with only one Richard Hannon runner. With so many youngsters in the yard it tells me all I need to know that Hannon saddles only STRONG SUIT here, after a maiden win at Newbury. Like a said a small play but Royal Ascot is where Hannon does so well with his two year-olds. Small bet Strong Suit will do me.

5:00 Royal Ascot, Ascot Stakes (handicap)…..

For this one, look out for our Free Royal Ascot Betting Podcast, on Tuesday.

5:35 Royal Ascot, Windsor Castle Stakes, Metropolitan Man, Win.

Again a small bet in this two year-old race. Last year Wesley Ward sent over horses who were further forward and won this with Strike The Tiger at odds of 33/1. This one won’t go off at that price. I have no idea how good this is, but I am prepared to follow the knowns and that is that Weslet Ward has two year-olds who are well advanced and can win the race again, as he did last year. A small bet, if any is advised.

Day one at Royal Ascot, Betting of the highest quality it has to be said. Another four days to go, I love it. I usually moan that Tuesdays are poor, this is like Champion Hurdle day, one of two decent days. I love Royal Ascot Betting.

Curragh Winner Fame and Glory

And last year’s Irish Derby winner is set for a quick reappearance in the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom on Friday week, with Stan James trimming him to 2-1 favouritism from 11-4 for the June 4 event. Johnny Murtagh’s mount enjoyed a confidence-boosting win last time out after being turned over on his seasonal bow, and any cobwebs must have been truly blown away as he thundered clear as the 8-15 favourite. Stan James cut today’s Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Fame And Glory from 3/1 to 2/1 favourite for the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom next month, and from 10/1 to 7/1 jt fav for the Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in October after his brilliant victory at the Curragh this afternoon

Dermot Weld’s Bethrah (16-1) got up in the dying strides to prevail in a blanket finish for the Etihad Airways Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh. Owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, the Marju filly hit overdrive inside the final furlong for Pat Smullen and sneaked up a tiny gap on the rail.

Aidan O’Brien’s Jan Vermeer (6-4 favourite) put himself right in the Investec Derby picture with an authoritative display in the Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes. Carrying a 7lb penalty for his victory in the Criterium International in November, Johnny Murtagh was content to settle his mount in mid-division behind the pace-setting Bobbyscot. Stan James cut Jan Vermeer from 14s to 6/1 for the Investec Derby following his victory in today’s Gp 2 Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh.

Goldikova

Freddie Head’s superstar mare Goldikova made the perfect start to her five-year-old career with a cosy success in the Prix D’Ispahan at Longchamp. Nicely positioned behind the good gallop set by the pacemakers, Olivier Peslier asked her to quicken two furlongs out, and the response was fairly immediate.

Stan James kept Kite Wood and Kasbah Bliss unchanged at 8/1 for next month’s Gold Cup at Royal Ascot following the success of the former in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier at Longchamp. Runner up Kasbah Bliss was given plenty to do by Thierry Thulliez but never looked like reeling in Frankie Dettori’s mount.

Canford Cliffs won the Irish 2000 Guineas At The Curragh on Satuday, very impressively……

Richard Hughes is relishing the prospect of Canford Cliffs again waging war with Makfi at Royal Ascot. The Richard Hannon-trained colt was a brilliant winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh on Saturday, but had previously finished third behind the French raider in the Newmarket equivalent. Hughes is, however, confident of exacting revenge upon Makfi when the pair go head to head in the St James’s Palace Stakes on June 15. Royal Ascot is only 3 weeks away!
