Glorious Goodwood Betting Tips…Best Bet of the Day….

4:00 Glorious Goodwood, Libranno, Win. Richard Hannon is carrying all before him this season and is hoping the luck of owner Ollie McDowell extends to Friday’s Tanqueray Richmond Stakes at Goodwood with Libranno.  Hannon has high hopes for his youngster;

“He is workmanlike rather than spectacular, but he kept on finding at Newmarket and he is the sort of horse who is best when allowed to do his own thing rather than try and organise him, so this track might suit him and (Richard) Hughesie can let him jump and run,” he told his website www.richardhannonracing.tv.

The key is Richard Hughes, what a master horseman, the ride he gave Canford Cliffs was simply sensational. He is the best rider this season in my book. You cannot go against Hannon and Hughes in two year-old races. Libranno is my best bet of the day.

2:10 Glorious Goodwood, Duncan, Win. I have always thought Duncan is a decent sort. I made a few quid when backing him after moving to the Gosden yard but this season he has yet to hit the target. Last time out though his form looks solid when second to Harbinger and we know what he did in Group 1 company recently (don’t I just!!).  The fact that Duncan got to within four lengths of Harbinger in the Hardwicke Stakes puts him right at the top of this field in my view and the official stats back this up, he is rated 119, which should be good enough.

5:15 Glorious Goodwood, Jacqueline Quest, Win. There is, and may never have been, a better trainer of the filly than Sir Henry Cecil. I am giving him a knighthood because he deserves one. This horse was first past the post in the Stan James 1000 Guineas but was demoted. She then ran a decent third in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. A genuine Group 1 filly now takes her chance in this Oak tree Stakes, a Group 3 and she should win. It could be a big 48 hours for Sir Henry Cecil as he has Midday in the Nassau Stakes, here at Glorious Goodwood on Saturday. .

Borderlescott can win here again

2:45, King George Stakes, Borderlescott, Win. It’s hard to escape Borderlescott here and he should confirm his superiority over Spin Cycle and Amore Propre as he did in this race last year. The tough sprinters has finished in second in the last  two Stewards Cups, he handles the track, a big plus here.  Elnawin comes from an in-form yard and comes here with a big chance, upped in grade. However, he too was run all over by Borderlescott  in the Palace House Stakes at the start of the season and I would suggest that Robin Bastiman’s stable star is the one to side with. I hope he wins as much as I think he will win.



3:25 Artemis Goodwood Cup, Age Of Aquarius, Win. Several of these met in the Ascot Gold Cup last month, when Age Of Aquarius was second to the shock winner. However, that was a solid Group One performance and prior to that he was second to Profound Beauty and before that Harbinger. He clearly sits proudly as the best of Aidan O’Brien’s current bunch of stayers. The consistent Purple Moon hasn’t actually won a race since 2007 but has still been a great money-spinner for his connections. His attitude in unquestionable and, with Kieren Fallon in the plate, he is sure to get every assistance from the saddle.  Age Of Aquarius is down in grade and really should win this race, readily, he is my best bet of the day. (NAP).

In the 5:45 Pizza San Pietro is out again after winning here on Tuesday. Piazza San Pietro has been a revelation of late and will post a big threat if he is also still ahead of the assessor having been placed in his last six starts, winning three of them. Can he defy a penalty?

Jeremy Noseda used the Betfair Gordon Stakes as a launch pad for Sixties Icon’s Ladbrokes St Leger success and he again captured the Goodwood Group Three – but his latest winner Rebel Soldier looks unlikely to take in the Doncaster Classic.

Richard Hannon landed another major two-year-old prize when Zebedee got up close home to beat Stone Of Folca and Choose Wisely in the Betfair Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Settled towards the rear by an ultra-confident Richard Hughes, he had plenty of ground to make up but had his main market rival, the keen-going Stone Of Folca, well within his sights.

Two bets at Glorious Goodwood, Tuesday…..

Jokes aside it is another Richard Hannon two year-old with the mighty Richard Hughes aboard who can win this Group 3 contest. Officially the highest rated horse in the race, he won a listed even last time and though this is a tougher test, but only one defeat in four career starts and from the Hannon stable I am seriously interested in the brilliantly named Zebedee.

He was second last time to Premio Loco, who has since franked the form.  The stats are on the side of Red Jazz, with six of the last 10 winners of this race being that age. Much of that will be down to the weight for age allowance which is generous and in this field the highly rated Hills charge is the one. A good race, but Red Jazz should win.

Harbinger Won The King George

I haven’t commented on Harbinger yet, mainly because having followed him all season I went against him with Workforce, who was a no show, with 5/1 on offer I was kicking myself.

After a mesmerizing win in this afternoon’s King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes – Sir Michael Stoute’s Harbinger now ranks as one of the shortest-priced mid-Summer Arc favourites in recent history. The odds of 1/6 on Sir Michael winning the King George proved accurate when an 11-length demolition from the son of Dansili secured a fifth victory for the Freemasons Lodge trainer, and resulted in an even money quote (from 8-1) by William  Hill for the end-of-season highlight.

The four-year-old now tops the betting for the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe with Hills;  ahead of Aidan O’Brien’s Fame and Glory,  and principal French contender Bekhabad (8-1).

6:10 Windsor, Majestic Dream, Win. Dream Win looked badly in need of the experience on his racecourse introduction at Windsor and better can be expected on his return to the track. Walter Swinburn’s colt had seemingly not been pulling up any trees at home before that debut as he was sent off as one of the outsiders and a slow start suggested bookmakers had got it spot on. While he never threatened to land a telling blow, he made some eyecatching headway in the closing stages and was eventually beaten little over five lengths into sixth. The form was given a boost with the subsequent success of the third home Regal Approval and with Majestic Dream likely to know more about his job now, he should go close in the EBF Francessca Tizzard 21st Birthday Today Maiden Stakes.

Zacinto must win on Sunday, Surely?

3:50 Pontefract, Zacinto, Win. I will take a final chance on Zacinto as it seems the penny has finally dropped with connections that he is not a Group 1 animal. He should do well in this listed contest and indeed it will be back to the drawing board if he comes up short here. Ryan Moore makes the trip to ride and it will be a serious set back if he doesnt win. We may even get a decent price from layers here.

Workforce - can he win the King George

Workforce to take Control at Ascot

Stewards’ Inquiries will be televised live for the first time at Ascot on Saturday. Interestingly Stan James bet 4/9 that there is NOT a televised Stewards’ Inquiry in the 4 BBC races from Ascot tomorrow and 13/8 there is. The main event though is the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes….

Free Horseracing Tips for Ascot….

4:25 Ascot, King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Group One, Workforce, Win. This is a potentially great race, not least because Workforce has the potential to be an exceptional horse. Of all the great names ever to win the Derby, Sea The Stars and Galilaeo amongst them, all ran slower than Workforce. You can not ignore that fact and only stablemate Harbinger stands in his way. Cape Blanco in my view will be well beaten again and it once again boils down to a match between the Sir Michael Stoute inmates. Harbinger is a good horse, he is rated 125 but has yet to win a Group One. I take it that the lightly raced Workforce will improve for that outing at Epsom. The Dante form can be ignored, he had a bit problem, and still ran well. I think that Workforce is potentially a very very good horse and I expect that Ryan Moore who never hesitated in choosing Workforce from day one has made the right decision. Timeform, Workforce is 1 pound better, 139p and Harbinger 138+. So both have more to come and can’t be split.

It is interesting that the Richard Hannon two year-olds are winning all before them. I like the look of Auld Burns (2:05 Ascot) but I am going against the stable with….

2:40 Ascot, Margot Did, Win. I think the Michael Bell horse will take some beating here, despite the presence of a Richard Hannon unexposed type in Sweet Cecily. Margot Did looks a decent type, beaten only a head by Memory in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. In my view Memory is the best two year-old we have seen all year. Richard Hannon trains memory, so he will have a guide to his chances, but it would be a huge shock if he had one better than that, for me Margot Did can land this Group 3 for Hayley Turner.

I will be at York, so I better offer some free horseracing tips for York…

2:30 York, Viewing, Win. A very progressive looking individual from the John Gosden stable, with Frankie Dettori in the saddle. He rarely leaves York without a winner and I think he could have one here. First time in a handicap off a mark of 77 in the Cheavley Park Stud Colours, you can not ignore this and I certainly will be a backer.

3:05 York, Debussy, Win. I think Gosden can have another winner with Debussy. The horse ran in a Group One last time and can confirm the form with the Godolphin horse who was behind last time. The in form David Simcock runner, Bushman is the main danger.

Workforce For Charlie

The last three-year-old to win Saturday’s feature the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes was Alamshar back in 2003, but impressive Derby winner Workforce (4.25 Ascot) is taken to buck that trend in what promises to be one of the races of the season. The selection has only raced three times and in recording the fastest ever time for the Epsom classic he looked a potential superstar. The Derby form has taken a few knocks in recent weeks, but Workforce is taken to reverse early season form with subsequent Irish Derby winner Cape Blanco who missed Epsom for the French Derby where he finished down the field.

Cape Blanco bounced back to his best when giving Aidan O’Brien a fifth successive win in the Irish Derby at the Curragh last time, but that performance was not as visually impressive as that of Workforce who is bidding to give Sir Michael Stoute a fifth win in the King George.

Harbinger looks the best of the older horses and he turned the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot into a procession last time. This is the first time Harbinger has been asked to race in Group 1 company and this is his acid test giving weight to a pair of Classic winners. Ryan Moore has, unsurprisingly, stayed loyal to Workforce and Olivier Peslier will take over on Harbinger; Workforce is a confident selection.

StanJames.com make Workforce the 3/1 favourite for the Arc de Triomphe which is sure to be the horse’s end-of-season target. Connections of French filly Daryakana believe she is a better horse going right-handed and Ascot should suit her down to the ground; she adds spice to what is a quality renewal despite the low turnout.

It will be disappointing if Margot Did (2.40) cannot return to winning ways in the Princess Margaret Stakes. Michael Bell’s filly went down by a head in the Albany Stakes last time to Memory who followed up in the Cherry Hinton at Newmarket last week. Margot Did is currently 25/1 for the 2011 1000 Guineas with StanJames.com and that price could look attractive if she impresses this afternoon.

The big betting race of the day is the International Stakes over 7f and at the time of writing we are betting 6/1 the field with the progressive three-year-old Yaa Wayl at the head of the market. Note only three of the last ten winners of the race have been returned in single figures in this hot handicap. Himalaya (3.50) carries plenty of weight but he didn’t have the race run to suit last time and is the ew recommendation.

The Channel 4 cameras are at York and Monitor Closely (3.05) makes a belated seasonal debut on the track where he gained his biggest win to date in last year’s Gt Voltigeur. Today’s trip of 10f is on the sharp side and he may need the run but he is a fascinating runner having changed yards since his last start when looking a non stayer in last September’s St Leger.

Antigua Sunrise (2.30) chased too fast a pace and failed to stay over an additional quarter of a mile last time and she looks sure to appreciate the drop back in trip in the 10f fillies’ handicap. Paul Hanagan who was disappointingly overlooked for the ride on Harbinger at Ascot takes the ride on the Knavesmire and he can stretch his lead at the top of the jockeys table.
