Charlie McCann’s Weekend Preview….

The Racing Post Chase is today’s Kempton highlight and trainer Philip Hobbs is doubly-represented with well-backed duo Quinz (6/1) and Mostly Bob (8/1) with the pair coupled at 7/2 with Victor Chandler to give the west-country trainer a fourth win in the race.

Quinz the mount of stable jockey Richard Johnson has won his last three starts going right-handed and looks to have been laid out for the race. The ground is currently good to soft but there is plenty of rain forecast for Friday night and it is worth noting that Quinz would not want the ground to deteriorate too much.

I promised myself that I would follow the other Hobbs’ runner Mostly Bob until he was beaten after his facile win at Doncaster last time, but he is another for whom there must be a concern about the underfoot conditions given his recent improvement has been achieved on better ground.

I am loath to desert the Hobbs’ pair but they do look ground dependent and at a bigger price the handicapper has certainly given last year’s winner Razor Royale (3.00) a chance and he is given the nod.

Taking the excellent Sam Twiston-Davies 3lb claim into account the selection meets top-weight Nacarat on the same terms as in 2010 when Razor Royale narrowly prevailed. Nacarat had another desperately hard race when trying to lock horns with Long Run in the King George last time, but loves it around Kempton having also landed the 2009 renewal of this race albeit from a 9lb lower mark.

Racing Post Chase: EW ¼ odds first 4: prices from victorchandler.com

Quinz 6/1
Mostly Bob 8/1
Bakbenscher 9/1

Razor Royale 12/1

The meeting opens with a juvenile hurdle that has been won in recent years by notables such as last year’s Triumph Hurdle winner Soldatino and the current Champion Hurdler Binocular back in 2008. Nicky Henderson has won three of the last four renewals and saddles French import Molotof (1.55) who will be making his British debut and receives 7lbs from Tonic Mellysse (1.55) who also has his first start in this country and races in the same ownership as the selection for Paul Nicholls. The betting should provide valuable clues.

Captain Chris (2.25) has finished runner up on all four starts this term including in the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Chase at Sandown earlier in the month. His still has much to learn in the jumping stakes but is a ideally served going right-handed and meets nothing of the class of Medermit today. He is another who wouldn’t want too much rain overnight although his class ought to prevail.

Coup Royale (4.45) is the weekend nap returning from a three-month lay off. He certainly has the scope to make into a chaser and there was much to like about his two starts over the larger obstacles back in November. He didn’t quite get home over 3m on the first of those starts and this trip ought to be ideal. It would be disappointing if he couldn’t go very close off what looks a very fair handicap mark.

Comply Or Die landed the 4m Eider Chase at Newcastle back in 2008 before landing the Grand National but now a 12-y-o he is unlikely to be given too hard a race on ground described as heavy ahead of what you would imagine would be his final Aintree assault.

Minella Boys must go close and conditions are ideal for Flintoff but at a bigger price a chance is taken on Morgan Be (3.15) who will think he is let loose with 10st on his back and suggested he was no forlorn hope when running on over 2m at Gosforth Park last time. Runner up in the race two years ago his jumping left something to be desired last time, but if jockey Richie McGrath can get him into a rhythm over his fences he looks well-handicapped and could reward each way support.

Nevada Royale was once considered a potential Gold Cup horse but injuries have plagued his career and he is returning from another three-month lay off in the opener. It would be great for connections if he could get his head in front but my eye is drawn to the fact that Tom Scudamore heads north for a good book of rides including Roi De Rose (1.40)

At Chepstow Voramar Two (2.55) looked all at sea at Huntingdon last time and is better than that run would suggest. He was only just touched off by Silver Kate at the Welsh track previously and that mare subsequently franked the form at Warwick. He is given one last chance to fulfil earlier promise.

There is a cracking card at Fontwell on Sunday and the hope is that Cresswell Crusader (2.10) can go one better than on his hurdling debut. Do note that he is also engaged at Chepstow and ought to take the beating wherever he runs.

Tuesdays Free Racing Tips from The Hitman….

Just one bet today and it should be a winner!

3:25 Southwell Reachforthebucks can continue his progression and land this prize at Southwell. Well I say prize, not much of one, but he can collect for backers. His first start for Michael Wigham was a totally different horse to the one we saw with his previous yard. Last Thursday he was punted as if defeat was unthinkable on his first try in handicap company and he won easy as you like. Repeat of that today I think!!

It is Monday and he Hitman is back after a weekend off. Here are your free Horseracing tips for Monday…..

Monday Free Horseracing Tips…..

Storming Gale (2:10) can kick off the day at Carlisle with a good win. A point to point winner in ireland he looked the business when winning a maiden hurdle at Ffos Las. Not a strong race and connections I am sure will be disappointed not to win this.

Finlay (4:40) can make it a McCain double. Though he hasn’t had much experience and need to brush up on his jumping his form, runner-up to Antonius Caesar at Leicester should be good enough to win. A double for us and for Donald McCain is on the card.

Charlie McCann’s Weekend Horseracing Preview, 19 Feb

It hasn’t been the greatest of weeks for horseracing following the Newbury tragedy, but one excellent piece of news was that the veteran grey Monet’s Garden has returned home to Greystoke in Cumbria following a life-threatening illness. Nicky Richards’ stable star won today’s feature Ascot Chase twice in the last four years and although it may not be a vintage renewal we have a fascinating contest to consider.

A great Ascot Card on Saturday

A great Ascot card on Saturday

Pride Of Dulcote (3.00) is unbeaten in two starts over fences and is currently a 16/1 shot with Victor Chandler for the Cheltenham Gold Cup next month. He bypassed the Irish Hennessy last weekend to wait for Ascot and is taken to maintain his 100% record over the larger obstacles, despite the fact that the 2m 6f trip is, arguably, on the sharp side for him. Riverside Theatre finished runner up in the King George last month but, with Kauto Star not at his best, something had to finish second to facile winner Long Run and the suggestion is today’s favourite was flattered by his finishing position.

Ascot Chase: prices from victorchandler.com Riverside Theatre 7/4 Pride Of Dulcote 2/1 Tartak 5/1 Deep Purple 7/1 Big Fella Thanks 12/1 Gauvain 14/1 Racing Demon 33/1 I wasn’t convinced Master Of The Hall (1.50) would appreciate the step up to 3m at Huntingdon last time but the further he went the better he was and I take him to follow up in the four-runner Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase. French raider Royal Tune (2.25) has been raised a stone for his cosy victory at Ffos Las last time but could still be ahead of the handicapper. Ogee is on a very favourable mark but with rain forecast he is best left until the spring when he gets better ground. The weights for the Grand National were unveiled in London on Tuesday and there is a competitive trial for the race at Haydock where Le Beau Bai (3.20) can reverse recent Warwick form with West End Rocker. The latter is currently 25/1 for the National but if he were to win well those odds would shorten dramatically for the Aintree showpiece. Court In Motion (2.10) cannot be opposed in the 3m Novice Hurdle despite giving weight to each of his seven rivals; he was most impressive at Warwick last time and although his stamina must be taken on trust his class ought to see him home in this grade. Connections of Bensalem (2.45) are protecting his handicap mark over fences for another crack at the Festival Chase at Cheltenham next month but en route he can pick up today’s Rendlesham Hurdle with Any Given Day yet to prove his stamina for this 3m trip on soft ground. The nap of the weekend is Mille Chief (3.45) in the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton. The recommendation receives weight from his principle rivals and if he is to become a realistic contender for the Champion Hurdle he ought to win. Overturn and Celestial Halo will ensure there is a decent gallop and that will suit Alan King’s five-year-old. The stable’s Katchit became the first 5-y-o since See You Then back in 1985 to win Hurdling’s Blue Riband event when he landed the prize in 2008 and the trainer has gone on record as stating Mille Chief is superior to him! Earlier in the card Carlicue (2.35) could have been let in lightly by the handicapper having won his maiden at Ffos Las last month. A winning point-to-pointer McCoy takes over and any further rain would not inconvenience. Vagrant Emperor has failed to confirm the promise he showed at Newbury back in November when returning from a long lay off but a market move would be worth noting. Free Horseracing Tips for Friday from the Hitman…Last Saturday Newbury was off, today it’s back to Newbury on Friday for the toteSPORT Trophy……

Free Horseracing Tips

Tony McCoy on Get Me Out Of Here

Last year the Totesport Trophy was won by Get me Out Of Here (1:50), who in fairness ran off a silly weight. We backed in and it bolted up! He then finished second to Menoragh in the Supreme Novices at Cheltenham, but this season it is as if someone has swapped it for a moderate type, so bad has his form been. Well I have a theory and it is that this is the race for Get Me Out Of Here to land a bit of a touch ! Now I stress I have no information but I suspect that he has been trained with this race in mind and I reckon that he is definately one to be on at the prices. I am sure he is capabale of winning from what is to be fair a fifteen punds higher mark than last year, but if the horse we saw at Cheltenham turns up then he is capable and is my best each-way bet of the day!

Minella Stars (2:25) is very highly thought of by the Paul Nicholls team and comes here with a big reputaion. He was a bit green over the jumps but had enough of an engine to get home by over 3 lengths at Hereford last time out. I think this is a decent type who will go on to bigger and better things and the evens on Betfair is well worth taking.

PHAR AGAIN (2:10 Leicester) is on a roll at the moment and is a dual course and distance winner who can complete a hat-trick and though raised 7 pounds looks still well in at the weights. Bet of the day.

RANDJO (3:40 Leicester) can get revenge on Guns of Love who beat him when he pulled up. He bounced back to win by 20 lengths at Fontwell. Victor Dartnall’s enigmatic front-runner is 13lb higher here but is in form and could easily win again.

Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary

At Southwell El Dececy (2:50) should land the seller at the expense of Army of Stars who has had too much bad luck for it to just be down to luck! El Dececy should have too much in hand. On official ratings he has seven pounds in hand and really should have too much especially at level weights. Bet of the Day.

Mush Mir (3:50) has won his last couple of starts and despite a double penalty he is still ahead of the handicap and can make  it a quick three timer for connections. He has crucial course and distance form and I think he will do it. Two nice bets on the sand at Southwell today.

Well what a terrible day Saturday. Newbury was awful and the loss of good horses really made it a black day for racing. We decided to have a day off yesterday and draw breath. Today we get to choose from Catterick, Plumpton and Wolverhampton. Catterick looks like a nightmare for backers, so no bets at the North Yorkshire track advised. At Plumpton things are much better.

ALDERLUCK (2-30) should get our day off to a winning start as he squares up to Fruity O’Rooney in what looks a straight match. Getting six pounds though should be the deciding factor and I would suggest Alderluck is a good bet today at Plumpton. Little explantion is needed here and I make this the best bet of the day.

KEKI BUKU (4-00) has the perfect opportunity here to get off the mark over fences for Philip Hobbs. Second last time out he was staying on when second to Quozak in what it has to be said was a better race than this. Today should be the day but sadly the price isn’t great but I would rather be a backer than a layer here today.

FREQUENCY (2-40) looks the best bet on the Wolverhampton card. A weak seller can go the way again of the Mark Wigham trained four year old. Successful in his last two starts both at Wolverhampton, he was claimed last time out of the Amy Weaver stable and makes his debut for his current trainer today. Eddie Ahern keeps the ride which is an interesting move!

Free Horseracing Tips

The Hitman

The Hitman is on deadly form with the last six advised bets all winning! The Hitman is back with more totally Free Horseracing Tips for a super Saturday of racing. The big action is at Newbury with some top class jump racing….

There is also some top quality jumps racing over in Ireland, so plenty to get stuck in to on Saturday, here are the Hitman’s Free Horseracing Tips…….

Al Ferof (1:20) should get the Newbury card off to a winning start as he lines up against the Ap McCoy ridden Kid Cassidy. It should boil down to a match between the two with the Nicholls runner getting four pounds from the top weight I can’t see him winning, but with McCoy in the saddle anything is possible. Al Ferof for me though.

The Aon Chase is a grade 2 race and has attracted a small field which lacks a certain amount of quality. Noland has McCoy in the saddle following a good win last time but the form book tells us that mr Saturday, AKA Nicky Henderson, should win this with Riverside Theatre (2:25). He comes here after a second in the King George and though plenty have had a pop at that form it is the best on show. Noland is the main danger, but I think Riverside Theatre will be too good, I don’t think it will be close, I predict a romp!

Tony McCoy on Get Me Out Of Here

Last year the Totesport Trophy was won by Get me Out Of Here (3:35), who in fairness ran off a silly weight. In Ireland….Leopardstown…

Zaidpour (2:45) should take the Deloitte Hurdle for the very in form Willie Mullins. He was hugely impressive when winning the Royal Bond Hurdle but was then beaten by First Lieutenant in the Future Champions here, a shock and I think he will win this and head to Cheltenham after this race.

Money Trix (3:15) can land the recheduled Irish Hennessey Gold Cup for Nicky Richards. A close second to What A Friend in the Lexus , a reproduction of that can see him take a valuable prize.

It should be a great day…. Get the best price on every race today with Racing Diary……..
