The Hitman is that to mark your card for a big Saturday of action with flat racing from Newmarket and a top-quality jumps card at Wetherby. Will the Hitman be on target yet again? Free horseracing tips from Racing Diary…
Next weekend sees the Breeders Cup, with some real top-quality horses running and we will look in detail at that card next week. Although nothing quite reaches those heights on Saturday there is still plenty to go at and I think Frankie Dettori will continue his excellent form for Godolphin at Newmarket.
Here are todays Free Horseracing Tips, for Saturday 30 October 2010…..
Alexandros ( 2:35) is one of three Godolphin runners in the field but should quite readily be the best although the his biggest threat will probably come from stablemate Secrecy ridden by Jamie Spencer. rated 112 and sporting headgear for the first time Dettori looks to have the race at his mercy.
Picture Editor (3:45 Newmarket) is probably more interesting to watch today than to back, unless for some unknown reason he is offered at decent odds, but I would expect him to be short and I would expect him to win in the style of a good horse.. He has been the subject of a lot of Derby speculation since winning his maiden and then trotting up in a ridiculous degree runner race last time at odds of 1 – 14. If those comments are anywhere near the mark then this should be nothing more than an exercise canter with only really Measuring Time likely to put up any sort of reasonable opposition. if this one is offered at odds against then snap it up!
At a better price I like Kirklees (4:20 Newmarket) who has the able assistance of Frankie Dettori in the saddle and is another one of three runners saddled by Godolphin. The six-year-old will need to return to his best to figure here having run slightly below par on his last couple of runs but with the stable in such good form and then Kirklees at his best would have very strong claims and I think represents some value in this field.
So we turn our attention to National Hunt racing and the Wetherby card for the Charlie Hall Chase is always decent, today is no exception. It is great to see some of the big names of jumps racing back from their summer breaks and I will be eagerly casting my eye over a few of today’s runners for the season ahead and the buildup of course to The Cheltenham Festival 2011.
Deep Purple one the Charlie Hall Chase 12 months ago for Evan Williams and is back to defend his title but faces some stiff competition not least from the veteran Ollie Magern, Barbers Shop and the horse I think will win, Nacarat (3:25 Wetherby). Deep Purple has to concede 10 pounds in weight to Nacarat which I think is a tall order to say the least and with Sam Thomas taking the ride for Tom George I am very keen here on the chances of the nine-year-old who at the weights looks to clear form pick.
Former Cheltenham winner Tidal Bay (2:50 Wetherby) reverts to hurdles in what has turned out to be a fabulous looking John Smith’s Hurdle. Fair Along is sure to take them along at a good clip and I think will set this up nicely for Tidal Bay although the likely favourite will be Nicky Henderson’s Duc De Regneire who is a top quality individual but for me despite having to give weight away Tidal Bay has bags of quality and can take this under Brian Hughes who has a very big chance to impress major connections today.
What ever you are backing today good look!
It is sad to think that the flat is coming to an end, it marks the end of the summer, but the jumps and Cheltenham softens the blow. The decent jumps horses are getting going again now.
3:00 Newmarket Ragsah runs at Newmarket in a decent listed fillies contest where I think the favourite, Ragash ( 3:00 Newmarket) has a fairly straightforward task to continue the excellent form of Frankie Dettori and the Godolphin stable. She was fourth last time in the group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes with two of today’s rivals, and her main market rivals, well behind. A reproduction of that run will be easily good enough to notch up another winner for the amazing Frankie Dettori. Despite the probable short price I make Ragash my best bet of the day, the banker!
FRANKIE DETTORI’s Lingfield treble cost the bookies in excess of £2 million according to Ladbrokes. His three mounts for Godolphin all obliged to leave the layers counting the cost of yet another red-letter day for the popular Italian.
David Williams of Ladbrokes said: “Frankie was at his brilliant best and he’s clobbered us. Our shops were brimming with his fans looking for the treble all morning and he didn’t let down his army of backers.
“Dettori still has a following like no other jockey. We had all the clues we needed with just three mounts and when all three winners came in we knew it was going to be ugly.”
Dettori has been trimmed to 20/1 (from 25/1) for next year’s Flat jockeys’ title after sustained support since the market was opened a fortnight ago.
“We’ve seen glimpses of the old Frankie with his Ascot wins on QE2 day and now this. All we can do is salute him” added Williams.

This is the day which symbolically marks the handing over of the flat season to the National Hunt season with the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster ushering out the flat season and Aintree kicking off the National Hunt season.
What today does offer as though is some very exciting and interesting betting opportunities which offers is a good opportunity to make a few quid.
Wootton Bassett has shown himself to be an excellent two-year-old who landed a big group 1 prize in France on Arc day. Galtymore Lad (2:25 Doncaster) has chased Richard Fahy’s juvenile home on two occasions and comes here on the back of a very easy win at Salisbury and has easily the best form on offer. This listed contest should be much more within his grasp and it would be a fitting end to a good season for both this youngster and his jockey, Kieren Fallon,if they were to land the spoils on Town Moor.
Was it really only 12 months ago the St Nicholas Abbey destroyed the field in the Racing Post Trophy and went into the winter with the world at his feet? One can draw many parallels with Frankel who has a similar reputation and for many is already first past the post in next year’s 2000 Guineas. St Nicholas Abbey just shows you the other end of the spectrum.
The 2011 renewal of The Racing Post Trophy has several promising two-year-olds without having anything with the reputation that last year’s winner arrived with. That said I think this will go to Casemento (2:55 Doncaster) who runs in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed that we do not see on our racecourses much, if at all, any more. Frankie Dettori takes the ride and the form shown when winning the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh last month is the best on offer and the ease with which he won that day suggests that this is a very good colt indeed.
The best race of the day, at least in my view, is the Old Roan Chase at Aintree which is a tasty appetiser of things to come this winter. Albertas Run, Monets Garden and Poquelin are the leading players in a field of six with Monets Garden, now aged 12, defending the Crown he won last year. Interestingly Barry Geraghty was on board for Nicky Richards that day but has been given the leg up by Paul Nicholls on Poquelin (3:25 Aintree). The seven-year-old has age on his side and should be too good for the rest, especially as he is in receipt of weight and looks to be an improving horse which Paul Nicholls holds in high esteem. The three met last season with Albertas Run winning, Monet’s Garden in third and Poquelin unseating Ruby Walsh in a race run over today’s course and distance. I think that the best approach is to side with the improver and I go for Poquelin here.
My value bet of the day is Waffle (1:55 Doncaster) who didn’t handle the fibre sand of Southwell last time out and has the assistance of Frankie Dettori who was aboard last time, on turf, when third in this race 12 months ago. He comes here on a one pound lower mark and this looks to me like a Jeremy Noseda ‘s special so do not be surprised to see the money come early for Waffle. My advice is to take the price here and to back this horse each way at the early prices, remember nearly all bookmakers offer best odds guaranteed so you have nothing to lose in taking the price. For exchange players I would expect Dettori to have this one prominent and as such offers a decent back to lay opportunity, but a solid each way bet at decent odds is advise on Waffle.
What ever you are backing today, may lady luck smile on you!
Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary. On Monday we have one solid bet for you….
4:20 Salisbury, Secrecy, Win. Secrecy really ought to be winning the feature race of the day at Salisbury on Monday. Godolphin’s consistent four-year-old has been in impressive form this term, and looks favourably treated for the Bathwick Tyres Free Admission Raceday Conditions Stakes. Comfortably the highest-rated horse in this line-up, Saeed bin Suroor’s son of King’s Best has not finished outside the first three in nine starts – an excellent return by anyone’s standards. He also brings to the table the best form in the race, with his second behind subsequent Joel Stakes winner Cityscape in the Superior Mile at Haydock now looking very strong. Before his trip to Merseyside, he clinically pocketed a conditions race at Kempton after finishing a close-up third in the Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury. It was interesting in the Sovereign Stakes that Frankie Dettori had elected to ride Secrecy, with Poet’s Voice, the mount of Ted Durcan, just a nose ahead of him in second. Given the exploits of that QEII-winning stablemate, it perhaps gives an insight into the regard with which Secrecy is held at home. Although some may question why Bin Suroor is dropping him down in trip by a furlong, he has consistently shown plenty of pace – most strikingly at Newmarket last October. And with archived form on a rain-softened surface, this really does look a penalty kick.
Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary, today it is the start of York’s final, two day meeting of the season. Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary…..
2:45 York, Kirklees, Win. Godolphin look to have found the perfect opportunity for Kirklees to get back to winning ways in the Garbutt & Elliott Conditions Stakes at York. The six-year-old is a thoroughly admirable performer who falls just below top class, but he has mopped up similar races in the past. A winner at the 2009 Dubai Carnival, the entire was given a break after finishing unplaced in the Sheema Classic that year. He thrived for his absence, however, and landed his next three races in England, the highlight being the Group Two Sky Bet York Stakes on the Knavesmire. After winning the September Stakes, Godolphin were teeing him up for a crack at the Melbourne Cup and he did his chances no harm at all when finishing seventh in the Caulfield Cup, beaten less than five lengths. However, Kirklees failed to make the big race, with Saeed bin Suroor declaring himself unhappy with the horse upon his arrival in Australia. Off the track since, connections must have been very pleased with his comeback at Ayr when fourth in the Doonside Cup, in which he travelled well, beaten just a length and a half, but was perhaps lacking match fitness. As long as he escapes the dreaded bounce factor, Kirklees should have too much class for the luckless Kings Gambit and too much know-how for the inexperienced Jet Away.
The totescoop6 has rolled over again after two 20/1 winners in the first two legs dashed the dreams of the majority of punters. All Annalena’s victory at Haydock was swiftly followed by Palomar’s shock success at Market Rasen which left just 38 tickets going heading into the third leg.
The bet finally went down after the fourth leg – the Read Paul Nicholls Exclusively on Betfair ‘Prelude’ Handicap Chase at Market Rasen – as Silmi’s victory at 16/1 knocked the remaining two tickets out who had been relying on Martin Todhunter’s That’s Rhythm.
This means there is now £468,366 in the win fund whilst the bonus pot has grown to £861,677. A total of £375,880 was bet into the pool this afternoon but there was good news for the 148 winners of the place fund, each of whom pick up a healthy £507.90 for their efforts.
‘Two big-priced winners meant that this weekend’s Scoop6 was pretty much over before it had begun but there could be as much as £1.75 million up for grabs next weekend when all eyes will be on Newmarket for the Cambridgeshire meeting,’ said totepool spokesman George Primarolo.
The bonus fund of £861,677 is the sixth-largest rollover since the Scoop6 started over ten years ago whilst the combined rollover of £1,330,043 is the 17th highest in the history of the bet.

Frankel is now the 2/1 favourite (from 5/1) with totesport for next year’s 2000 Guineas following a breathtaking performance in the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot this afternoon.
The race was over in a matter of strides around three furlongs out as Tom Queally’s mount turned the race into a procession, eventually winning by ten lengths.
‘Everything about Frankel’s performance in the Royal Lodge oozed class and a victory in either the Dewhurst or the Racing Post Trophy will see him go into the winter as one of the shortest-priced Guineas favourites in recent history,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.
White Moonstone battled hard to repel the late challenge of Together and land the Meon Valley Stud Fillies’ Mile at Ascot this afternoon and she has been cut to 6/1 favourite (from 8/1) by totesport for next year’s 1000 Guineas.
The runner-up has been trimmed to 12/1 (from 25/1) for the same race whilst third-placed Theyskens’ Theory is out to 14/1 (from 10/1). White Moonstone remains a 10/1 shot for next year’s Oaks.

Charlie McCann casts his expert eye over the weekend’s horseracing, Something for the Weekend From Stan James’ Man in the Know…..
It is 14 years since Frankie Dettori rode all seven winners on today’s Ascot card and whilst there will not be a repeat of the Italian’s magnificent 7 this afternoon I consider Poet’s Voice (4.15) to represent excellent value in the feature QEII Stakes which has been slightly devalued by the absence of antepost favourite Canford Cliffs.
StanJames.com 2000 Guineas winner Makfi is likely to go off around evens and many will consider him a certainty given he easily disposed of the brilliant mare Goldikova at Deauville last time. That was a visually stunning display although I am convinced that the mare failed to give her running on the very soft ground.
Makfi had previously finished down the field over today’s C&D when disappointing in the St James’s Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting, and whilst connections suggested the colt was suffering from a throat infection at the time I would be loath to back the French raider at the forecast price given that unhappy experience.
Rip Van Winkle is bidding to become the first horse since Rose Bowl in 75/76 to win this great race back-to-back but he didn’t look to be crying out for a drop back in trip when well held by stablemate Cape Blanco in the Irish Champion Stakes over 10f last time. Indeed he hasn’t won at a mile since the corresponding race last year and he is readily overlooked.
Poet’s Voice was a juvenile I had plenty of time for last year but was a major disappointment in the first half of the season. I think Godolphin have found the key to the colt who has been held up in his last couple of starts and put up a cracking performance when turning the Celebration Mile into a procession at Goodwood last month. The time was excellent in the circumstances (soft ground) and I think he is peaking at the right time.
Queen Elizabeth II Stakes: (place terms: 1/4 the first 3); prices from Stan James
4-5 Makfi
9-4 Rip Van Winkle
13-2 Poet’s Voice
14 Hearts Of Fire
20 Beethoven
33 Red Jazz
40 Bushman
125 Air Chief Marshall
Frankel (2.30) is 6/1 favourite for the 2011 2000 Guineas and Derby with StanJames.com and cannot be opposed in the Royal Lodge Stakes. At this moment I favour Godolphin’s Saamidd for next year’s 2000 Guineas but I would not put anyone off having an antepost wager on the Henry Cecil-trained Frankel for next year’s Derby even at this stage.
Fellow Evertonian Martin Dwyer has had his season prematurely curtailed due to injury (unlike our side who haven’t got out the blocks yet) and I know he was looking forward to riding Theyskens’ Theory in the Fillies’ Mile. Champion jockey Ryan Moore takes over in the saddle and he is likely to try and make it a true test although White Moonstone (3.05) has got to be the recommendation after her brilliant win in the May Hill at Doncaster earlier in the month.
Unbeaten in three starts White Moonstone is currently 8/1 with StanJames.com for both the 2011 1000 Guineas and Oaks and those prices will contract if the Godolphin filly maintains her unbeaten record this afternoon.
The card opens with a 21-runner handicap over the round mile and luck in-running will play a big part. Sajjhaa will have her supporters after her recent Bath success but I hope on the revised terms Forest Crown (1.55) can return to winning ways having not had the run of the race last time.
The big betting race of the day is the Challenge Cup over 7f. Last weekend’s Ayr Gold Cup winner Redford is reunited with Frankie Dettori and the additional furlong will not trouble the Dandy Nicholls trained five-year-old. He looks to have a tremendous draw in stall 28 but he has never been the most consistent of animals and preference is for Mia’s Boy (3.40) who has been given a mid-season break and thoroughly deserves to win one of these valuable handicaps. His jockey Adam Beschizza is very good value for his 5lb claim and the yard had a welcome winner at Folkestone earlier in the week.
Antigua Sunrise (2.05) is a horse who had promised much but failed to deliver before a facile success at York last time and a 4lb rise in the weights doesn’t appear too harsh. Paul Hanagan takes over and the likelihood of soft ground at Haydock is no concern.

As we approach how wonderful weekend of racing with the top-class card at Ascot kicking off on Friday, there are bits and pieces of quality before then, not least on Wednesday, with a decent listed contest at Goodwood.
3:45 Goodwood, Holberg, Win. A decent prize of £35,000 is on offer yet only five runners go to post, but what we lack in quantity which somewhat make up for in quality. I think this boils down to a duel between Hot Prospect and Holberg, a three-year-old against a four-year-old. It’s a tricky race but for me the Godolphin trained Holberg as the best claims despite having to concede six pounds to Hot Prospect. He has solid form and though he can be a tricky customer he has the benefit of Frankie Dettori, riding as well as ever in my view, in the saddle and should be too good for this field in my view. With a rating of 115 he is the best horse in the race and three runs ago at Goodwood he destroyed a quality field with the form of those behind having been franked, good and proper. This is my best bet of the day.
4:55 Goodwood, Dhaamer, Win. This is a fairly competitive handicap, but I think we have a very solid bet here with John Gosden in flying form and this horse for me still ahead of the handicapper. He gets a very attractive weight for age con session as does the Jeremy Noseda trained Alfonso the Wise who you may recall was overturned at long odds on in a poor looking maiden last time. That defeat didn’t do him any harm in terms of his handicap mark being allotted only 78, but it would take a big leap of faith to see him win this. Dhaamer on the other hand broke his maiden at the second time of asking at Lingfield, with an emphatic victory and then followed up with a handicap debut victory from a mark of 83 at Sandown, coming here up only four pounds. This looks solid and is one to back. I do worry though about the Noseda horse with Ryan Moore enjoying a 22% strike rate this season when teaming up with the stable. That said Gosden could win with the stable cat at the moment and Richard Hills is a fine pilot, particularly from the front so I will stick with Dhaamer here.
Good luck!
Stan James cut impressive Champagne Stakes victor Saamidd from 16s to 7s for the 2011 Guineas and from 20s to 12s for the Derby following his convincing win in the Gp 2 Champagne stakes earlier this afternoon.
Head of PR Charlie McCann: “The Guineas picture could be a bit clearer after the National Stakes later this afternoon but Zoffany or Pathfork will have to go some to arrest clear favouritism for the colts’ classic after a terrific performance from Saamidd at Doncaster.”

Pathfork and Saamidd have been cut to 8/1 co-favourite (from 10/1 and 16/1 respectively) with totesport for next year’s 2000 Guineas following victories at the Curragh and Doncaster this afternoon.
Pathfork maintained his unbeaten record in the boylesports.com National Stakes but had to battle hard to fend off a determined challenge from Casamento in the final furlong to win by a head.
Things appeared slightly easier for Saamidd as he recorded an impressive success in the Neptune Investment Management Champagne Stakes. The Street Cry colt travelled supremely well throughout the contest and unleashed a powerful finishing kick to win by two and a quarter lengths from Approve.
‘We have seen two visually contrasting performances today from two talented colts and it will be fascinating to see who comes out on top if they both take their chance in the Dewhurst in October’ said totesport spokesman Andrew Griffiths.
In the big betting heat of the day, the Ladbrokes Portland, 4/1 favourite Poet’s Place mowed down Bajan Tryst in the final 50 yards to win by half a length. He is now likely to head for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup next Saturday and is the new 5/1 favourite (from 8/1) with totesport.
