Paul Nicholls trains todays bet

2:50 Exeter, Royal Charm, Win. Paul Nicholls’ string seem a bit further forward than in previous years, which gives plenty of confidence that Royal Charm can win the Desert Orchid Restaurant Beginners’ Chase at Exeter on his seasonal debut. The five-year-old has always been talked of in terms of a chaser and now his connections will finally get the chance to see what he is made of. Bought after finishing second in a Listed hurdle at Auteuil, he showed his class on his first start in England when second behind a smart horse of Philip Hobbs’, According To Dick. There was no mistake on his second start over hurdles at Exeter when he landed the odds in fine style, winning unextended by six lengths. On his return to the track he beat a solid yardstick in James De Vassey in a valuable race which got the team excited, but they were still talking of him in terms of a chaser. His last start was in Grade Two company in January at Cheltenham when he was a short price against the likes of Restless Harry and General Miller. Only third, Nicholls drew stumps and no doubt got plenty of schooling into him for this season.

Thursdays Free Horseracing tips from UK Bloodstock Investements

LADY RHINESTONE 1.20 EXETER:
This horse was very weak early on but still managed to win a bumper on her 3rd attempt, She has needed time & has strengthened up considerably over the summer, She has been well schooled over hurdles, Is a superb jumper & knows her job & worth a small each way bet.

MOZAYADA 3.0 SOUTHWELL:
I watched this horse run last week trying to win a race that she won last year at Southwell, She met a vastly improving horse that day in Salerosa who has now won 5 races from 6 at Southwell, Mozayada made Salersoa fight all the way to the line, Mozayada is back on a winning handicap mark & won this race very easily last year when running up a 4 timer at Southwell, This is her best trip & her time of year, On a line through Salerosa she is very closely handicapped with likely second favourite Avertis but Mozayada is just hitting top form now & will be very hard to beat, All 5 of these horses like to make the running but Mozayada finding her top form over her correct distance makes her a 2 point maximum bet for me, I have taken a bit of 10/11 on betfair, Just hop she doesn’t go off long odds on.

CAROLE’S LEGACY 3.20 EXETER:

Henderson to land 3:20

Henderson to land 3:20

It was a tough decision in the Henderson yard whether to keep her over hurdles where she would have many winning opportunities or send her chasing, But looking at her she is a great big fine stamp of a chaser so it was decided that she would make a fine novice chaser, She made her chasing debut at Wincanton in november & won in an exercise canter jumping almost foot perfect, It was a weak race but she could do no more than win as she liked, The Racing Post have gone against her & say that she was no better over hurdles than OVER SIXTY, Well Carole’s Legacy has won 5 out of 8 races & earned £41,428 in prizemoney, Over Sixty has won 2 out of 12 races & earned £21,635 in prizemoney but what is important is that Carole’s Legacy is a great big type that was built for chasing, Colin Tizzards runner Midnight Queen is in good form at the moment but she is on the small side & may not cope with the superb jumping and massive stride of Carole’s Legacy.

The snow is due to arrive on Thursday so things could get tricky. Jumping at Exeter and Ludlow is on the cards on Thursday with flat action at Southwell and Wolverhampton tonight.

Things get interesting from Friday, certainly Saturday looks packed full of quality. Today there should be a few quid to be had but take it easy, especially if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

13:40 Ludlow, Russian Flag- Win. This race should not take much winning and Russian Flag can defy a seven pounds penalty to land a quick double for the Neil King yard. A good winner last time out at Warwick in testing conditions Russian Flag will handle today’s ground and can go in with the exciting Alex Merriam taking five off.

14:50 Exeter, Cornas- Win. This is the best bet of the day in my view. Nick Williams has his horses in good order and Cornas is the best horse in the race. He has faced tougher tests than this of late, running with credit, but should find this easier and can stamp his class on the field. With horses from big stables in the field we may get a decent price, at these weights Cornas looks very well treated.

15:20 Exeter, Carole’s Legacy, Win. Another day and we have another Nicky Henderson horse on the betting slip. As I have said before the stable are consistently running at a strike rate of one in three, simply fantastic form. She was a decent bumper performer who ran well over hurdles, having run with credit in the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. I think she will take all the beating and should add to the impressive stats of the Nicky Henderson team.

  • 13:40 Ludlow, Russian Flag- Win
  • 14:50 Exeter, Cornas- Win

USA Racing

Philadelphia R8 No2 Calm And Collected (2) – absolutely flying at present winning 9 from 13 this year including last 3 on end, very good effort 2 back when dictating an above average tempo on the front end over 1m70y at Penn National, led by 6l entering the stretch run and battled on strong one paced with a nice turn of foot holding that margin to the line to win by 6.2l putting a further 5.2l back to 3rd in a field of 5, franked that form winning by 9l on sloppy going next time out against similar, has good initial speed and likely to go straight to the front here from the 2 alley and prove hard to run down in deep stretch.

Meadowlands R7 No9 Miss Match (2) – former Argentinean galloper having 2nd start this prep and 3rd run in the USA, 4 starts ago won the Argentine Oaks G1 at Hipodromo by 3l on dirt widening the margin down the stretch run hitting the line very hard, franked that form next start when 3rd in the G1 Copa De Plata on turf at San Isidoro btn 2.5l, was tried on yielding turf 1st USA start 3 back and failed, forget the run, resumed last start at Delaware over 1m closing with strong pars coming from midfield off only an average pace to finish 2nd btn a neck with good margins further back through the field in OC30K company, fitter now and switched back to the turf likely to get one of the runs of the race tracking a minimum solid tempo with 3 potential leaders engaged, well bred by very good South American based son of AP Indy (Indigo Shiner) out of a Southern Halo mare, proven it can handle the turf when 3rd in the Copa De Plata and with the good un in transit will be the one closing hardest in deep stretch, lightly raced having only faced the starter 8 times, decent scope for further improvement here.

UK Racing

Exeter 1.40 R1 No7 Kahsabelle (2)1st up this preperation for the astute Venetia Williams yard who has produced 3 winners from her last 11 runners over the last 7 day span, last time when starting off a lengthy break finished 2nd at Ascot btn 0.7l by Santia over 16f in bottomless heavy going in 6K Novice hurdle company, hit the front before the 2nd last and battled on strongly to get nabbed close home after battling on strongly, fitness told, put good margins back to 3rd and 4th and 5th suggesting very good hidden merit in the performance, back onto better going here suits and faces a drop in class on that performance, yet to win in 12 career starts but in the right race now on exposed class and ready to break maiden status, currently on offer at 3.75 with betfair which is about 1/2 a point over the right quote we need to secure true value.

Sedgefield 1.20 R2 No1 Honour The World (2) - drops sharply in class here and back to hurdles after contesting Chase events against much stronger last 2 efforts (not disgraced considering what it takes on here), ships over from Ireland and go on effort at Bellewstown 4 starts ago defeating Wikaala and Gratified on yielding ground over 3f shorter than today’s trip, should get the distance OK considering this is a firmer surface it gets to take advantage of here, biggest query is is the other main pick in the market Commons Glory who gets weight relief carrying 1stone less but it was under heavy pressure last start over 2m1f when headed by Mickmacmagoogle going over the last jump.

One of each on offer today with flat racing on turf and the all-weather as well as an excellent jumps card at Exeter where the William Hill Gold Cup is the feature race, a good race by any standards but exceptional for a Tuesday. The flat season is in it’s final days for 2009 and we are building up to the Breeders Cup at Santa Anita on Saturday which as always is packed full of quality. The November Handicap is the last big race of the season at Doncaster on Saturday, then its jumping all the way.

2:10 Catterick- Cono Zur, Win

Cono Zur (14:10) hails from the Mark Johnston stable who has had an outstanding season bagging over 200 winners in 2009, an excellent feat for a northern yard. Cono Zur was a very impressive winner at Newcastle on his debut and reappears here for the first time in a handicap, off a mark of 82. He is sure to have improved following his introduction to racing and I think can give weight to the field and win with Joe Fanning in the saddle once again.

Oh Crick - The Answer at Exeter

Oh Crick - The Answer at Exeter

3:00 Exeter, Oh Crick, Win

Oh Crick (15:00) finished last season with two huge wins at Cheltenham (The Grand Annual) and Aintree (grade 3 chase) for Alan King. He makes his reappearance in the William Hill Gold Cup Chase at Exeter which has attracted a field worthy of the £75,000 prize money. Twist Magic went off favourite last year, finishing a well beaten fourth and may need this run despite being trained by the Champion Trainer. Nacarat may be the main danger but for me Oh Crick is improving and is sure to arrive here fit and ready to land the hat-trick.

Tuesday is pretty moderate stuff once again, but a couple of winners will see me finish the day more enthusiastically than I started it. The cards today provide a full house with flat turf at Yarmouth, an all-weather card at Lingfield and jumping at Exeter.

Over the jumps I fancy a double on Tarantino (15:10) and Ballydub (16:10) but the prices will be pretty short and I think there is more value to be had elsewhere, on the flat.

3:50 Yarmouth- Chain of Office, Win

Chain of Office (15:50) was a very nice winner of her maiden at Ffos Las and lines up here in handicap company from a mark of 73. The excellent Richard Hills, who has had a great season, takes the ride for William Haggas. This filly should improve and as such could be well treated and land a quick fire double today.

My Les the NAP at Lingfield

My Les the NAP at Lingfield

5:30 Lingfield- My Les, Win (NAP)

No doubt about the bet of the day, My Les (17:30) absolutely destroyed the field on his last outing, his first for Jim Best. Although that was a seller he finished some ten lengths clear today’s race, though a handicap is no better than the race at Brighton. Even with a six pounds penalty My Les looks exceptionally well treated. Jim Best has a habit of improving horses that are ‘cast off’ from other yards and My Les certainly looks another one to benefit from the Best magic. Lets hope he reproduces the Brighton form, if so he will win easily.

Jumping at Exeter on a wet Wednesday….

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

With plenty of rain about and two jumps cards we are certainly heading towards the National Hunt season. Nottingham stages the days flat card which I will not get involved with, given so much rain in the last 24 hours. The day is completed by Kempton under the lights but it is jumping that takes centre stage.

Tony McCoy is just a winning machine who I am sure is getting better in the saddle. He has raised the bar to a new level and as a punter I see him as an asset, never to be ignored and certainly I make it a rule never to lay a McCoy mount.

2.20 Exeter- Intersky Music, Win

Intersky Music (2.20) was unlucky to meet a well handicapped rival last time at Fontwell, going down by under a length with the first two drawing well clear of the field. Despite having been put up six pounds I think this is a race he should win and under the McCoy drive is the one to side with.

We are Jumping today!

We are Jumping today!

2.50 Exeter Talimos, Win (NAP)

David Pipe could have a really good season and should add to his tally with Talimos (2.50) who can follow up on a good win last time out at Fontwell. The headgear did the track that day and it will be employed again today. The ground seems ideal as does the step up in trip. With Talomos having so much in hand on official ratings I confidently make this the best bet of the day.

Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Wednesday 7th October

2.20 Exeter Intersky Music, win

2.50 Exeter Talimos, win (NAP)
