Doncaster on Friday

King Benny (1:20) bolted up last time and may still offer some value, despite the seven pounds penalty. He drops back in trip and I think had plenty in the tank, obviously on a good mark. Looks a rock solid each-way proposition at Doncaster.

I am very keen to see Brunston (1:55) from the Henderson yard, who are red hot. I think this could be another off the conveyor belt of novice winners from Seven Barrows and indeed the reports are good! It looks a fair contest and it is interesting that connections come here with surely easier options otherwise available.

Although I don’t think it will win, Straw Bear (1:00) is back over fences with Tony McCoy riding, at Fontwell, which should be fun! The long odds on Definity should win, but watching McCoy ride Straw Bear is interesting. McCoy gave one an amazing ride yesterday, booted home Folie A Deux at Warwick to the delight of some in-running punters who snaffled 999/1. McCoy is the master of his trade!

Good luck today!

Wogan Backed for Sky Bet Chase

William Hill have cut the Nicky Henderson-trained Wogan from 12-1 to 10-1 for Saturday’s Doncaster showpiece, the Sky Bet Chase.

The eleven-year-old son of Presenting bids for his third gold medal at the South Yorkshire venue, and, having been the subject of support since the entry stage, the price has contracted further post-final declarations.

Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said, ‘The Seven Barrows bandwagon shows no signs of slowing, with Nicky Henderson boasting over 30 winners since the turn of the year. Punters have been latching on to the dual course-winning Wogan, so we’ve cut him to 10s from 12s for the Town Moor highlight’.

Sky Bet Chase (William Hill bet):Latest prices….

4-1 Fistral Beach, 8-1 Blazing Bailey, Calgary Bay, 10-1 Wogan, 12-1 I’moncloudnine, Khachaturian, Killyglen, 14-1 King Fontaine, Take The Breeze, 16-1 Chief Dan George, Theatrical Moment, 20-1 Ringaroses, 25-1 Dom D’Orgeval, Door Boy, 33-1 Aimigale, Dashing George, Etxalar, 40-1 Saphir Des Bois, 50-1 Burren Legend (EW 1/4 1,2,3,4)

Fistral Beach Tops Saturday’s Big Race Entries

A final field of 19 head to Town Moor on Saturday to contest Doncaster’s Sky Bet Chase, William Hill going 4-1 about the Paul Nicholls-trained Fistral Beach.

Paul Nicholls trains Fistral Beach

The eight-year-old steps up in class and trip, arriving on the back of a superb seasonal return at Wincanton when a ready winner over two-miles-five, and seeks his second victory at the track.

Wogan is another who moves well across the South Yorkshire turf, the son of Presenting looking for his third gold medal here for Nicky Henderson. He is set to re-oppose Malcom Jefferson’s King Fontaine following the pair’s Haydock encounter in November, the latter bidding for his fifth triumph in succession.

Take The Breeze heads the weights, whilst Chelters’ William Hill Trophy winner Chief Dan George also finds himself at the higher end of the handicap.

Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said, ‘It’s great to see such a valuable and competitive handicap in the north which is not only able to attract the local contingent, but some prolific southern-based stables get in on the Town Moor action too. It’s always a decent Grand National trial as Big Fella Thanks proved when taking this en-route having two creditable cracks at the big one.’

Sky Bet Chase Betting Odds:  4-1 Fistral Beach, 8-1 Blazing Bailey, Calgary Bay, 12-1 I’moncloudnine, Khachaturian, Killyglen, Wogan, 14-1 King Fontaine, Take The Breeze, 16-1 Chief Dan George, Theatrical Moment, 20-1 Ringaroses, 25-1 Dom D’Orgeval, Door Boy, 33-1 Aimigale, Dashing George, Etxalar, 40-1 Saphir Des Bois, 50-1 Burren Legend (EW 1/4 1,2,3,4)

The Hitman On Saturday, Free #Horseracing Tips, 6 November

It is a big day of racing both in the UK, Ireland and of course at Churchill Downs where the Breeders cup will keep is going well into the night. The Hitman has all your best bets for Saturday’s action.

Free Horseracing Tips

Goldikova- magnificent

Last week the Hitman hit the target with 8/1 Nacarat winning the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby, here are today’s targets, free horseracing tips from the Hitman exclusive to racing diary…

There has been a real big fuss made about the Breeders Cup but in my view running it over two days has watered it down and it has lost some of the attraction, it least in terms of staying in on a Saturday night to watch it. Were it not for two very special fillies I probably wouldn’t watch this year but in Goldikova ( 8:40 Churchill Downs) and Zenyatta (10:45) there are two superstars of the equine world in action.

Certainly Goldikova for me is the best bet of the night and all she has to do is beat Paco Boy again and she will complete a hat-trick of wins in this mile turf contest. That would be just simply sensational, she is the best miler I have ever seen and I will be willing her to win and dancing with tears in my eyes if she does. Sometimes racing isn’t just about betting, sometimes it is about greatness and this French filly deserves to go down in history. 11/10 May be short but I think it’s still worth having a bet.

The the handicap on Saturday is the November handicap at Doncaster which will be run on good to soft ground. The race is as always hugely competitive with 23 declared runners. I think this will be one for Richard Hughes aboard Senate (3:10 Doncaster) for trainer John Gosden who train the winner of this race last year. Senate didn’t seem to handle conditions at Newbury last time but connections expect better at Doncaster on a track and on ground that should suit ideally. There is plenty of value to be had about backing Senate and I will be doing so each way.

The best of the jumps action on Saturday is at Wincanton where I have my eye on a couple. Australia Day (2:10 Wincanton) looks want to keep on the right side of and despite having to concede weight to all of his 10 rivals I think will complete a hat-trick over obstacles.

Paul Nicholls has a very interesting novice chaser in the shape of Robinson Collonges ( 2:45 Wincanton) who opened his account over fences at Bangor winning by 20 lengths, as easy as you like and definitely looks a high quality individual to follow. We may not get much of a price here with only five runners declared but this is very much one for the future from a powerful stable. Even money bigger though, count me in!

Senate popular for totesport.com November Handicap

Senate has been popular with punters ahead of Saturday’s totesport.com November Handicap and John Gosden’s colt is now 7/1 (from 10/1) with the sponsors.

The three-year-old disappointed on quick ground when last seen at Newbury but had previously been very progressive this season and has won both his starts at Doncaster.

‘Senate clearly goes well with a bit of cut in the ground at Doncaster and this has not been lost on punters who have been keen to back him for Saturday’s November Handicap,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Elsewhere, Tchico Polos has been trimmed to 12/1 (from 16/1) for the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham after winning the totesport Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter this afternoon though trainer Paul Nicholls stated that the gelding was unlikely to run in the race.

Charlie McCann’s Weekend Racing Preview

A cracking weekend of racing under both codes and with rain predicted across the country on Friday evening it is difficult to predict the state of the ground at Doncaster, Aintree and Chepstow who all stage excellent cards.

Free Horseracing Tips

Free Horseracing Tips

The lightly-raced Harry Patch (1.50 Don) hasn’t been out the frame in his five starts and is open to further improvement especially if the forecast rain arrives. He hasn’t run over 5f since his winning racecourse debut and it is hard to know until racing whether his draw in stall 3 is a help or hindrance but in an open race he must run well especially with front-runner Judge ‘n Jury to take him along in stall 7.

Casamento (2.55) has been friendless all week in the run up to the feature event the Racing Post Trophy having opened up at 7/4 and at the time of writing out to 11/4 with StanJames.com. The horse is trained in Ireland by Michael Halford for Sheikh Mohammed but is likely to race in Godolphin Blue next season. Frankie Dettori takes over for the first time and he was a most impressive winner of the Beresford Stakes last month.

Racing Post Trophy: place terms: 1/4 the first 3
11-4 Casamento
10-3 Dunboyne Express
11-2 Master Of Hounds
6 Seville
7 Native Khan
15-2 Titus Mills
16 Bar

Native Khan is unproven on soft ground but looks the best of the British challenge, but Casamento is taken to give Dettori a second win in the final Gp 1 of the 2010 flat season.

Junket (3.30) gave the impression an additional furlong would suit when she broke her duck at the second time of asking at Windsor earlier in the month. Her young jockey Ryan Powell cannot use his whip in this “hands and heels” final but the hope is he can coax further improvement out of the selection whose success was gained on soft ground. Unexposed Safwaan is considered a big danger for leading connections who also have the considerable assistance of Adam Beschizza in the saddle.

Aintree stage a cracking two-day card and Monet’s Garden has won the Old Roan Chase twice in the last three years, but he’s almost old enough to vote and is overlooked despite the fact his fast fluent jumping is always an asset across the tricky Mildmay fences. Tartak (3.25) hasn’t won since landing the novice chase here 18 months ago and blundered his way around behind Monet’s Garden in the corresponding race last year, but he ran a cracker when btn 5l behind Albertas Run in the Melling Chase back in the spring and meets the winner on 15lbs better terms today.

Medermit makes his eagerly awaited chase debut for Alan King in the 5.10 and the grey ought to cement his place at the head of the market for the Arkle for which he is currently the 8/1 favourite with StanJames.com.

Stan James! Register and Bet Now for your Free Bet!!

The Silver Trophy at Chepstow looks a cracker and Any Given Day (4.10) has the assistance of promising 7lb conditional Henry Brooke for Donald McCain. The grey may not have quite got home over an additional couple of furlongs last time, but that Kelso race ought to have put him spot on for this valuable event. Restless Harry would be one to consider if the ground turned soft whilst Duke Of Lucca is very highly regarded by the very much in-form Hobbs’ yard.

On Sunday “talking horse” Franklino (2.10) makes his British debut for Alan King in the opening juvenile hurdle and connections will be bitterly disappointed if he doesn’t make a winning start.

Adams Island is considered a potential star by Rebecca Curtis but the nap of the weekend is Cool Friend (2.45) despite the fact that she has finished runner up in her last five starts. She kept bumping into one too good last season and it is possible that Adams Island will maintain that sequence, but she is an excellent jumper of fences and Adams Island may need 3m to be seen at his best.

Be lucky

Free Horseracing Tips from Carl 'The Hitman' Harris

By Carl Harris- The Hitman

This is the day which symbolically marks the handing over of the flat season to the National Hunt season with the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster ushering out the flat season and Aintree kicking off the National Hunt season.

What today does offer as though is some very exciting and interesting betting opportunities which offers is a good opportunity to make a few quid.

Wootton Bassett has shown himself to be an excellent two-year-old who landed a big group 1 prize in France on Arc day. Galtymore Lad (2:25 Doncaster) has chased Richard Fahy’s juvenile home on two occasions and comes here on the back of a very easy win at Salisbury and has easily the best form on offer. This listed contest should be much more within his grasp and it would be a fitting end to a good season for both this youngster and his jockey, Kieren Fallon,if they were to land the spoils on Town Moor.

totesport.com

Was it really only 12 months ago the St Nicholas Abbey destroyed the field in the Racing Post Trophy and went into the winter with the world at his feet? One can draw many parallels with Frankel who has a similar reputation and for many is already first past the post in next year’s 2000 Guineas. St Nicholas Abbey just shows you the other end of the spectrum.

The 2011 renewal of The Racing Post Trophy has several promising two-year-olds without having anything with the reputation that last year’s winner arrived with. That said I think this will go to Casemento (2:55 Doncaster) who runs in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed that we do not see on our racecourses much, if at all, any more. Frankie Dettori takes the ride and the form shown when winning the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh last month is the best on offer and the ease with which he won that day suggests that this is a very good colt indeed.

The best race of the day, at least in my view, is the Old Roan Chase at Aintree which is a tasty appetiser of things to come this winter. Albertas Run, Monets Garden and Poquelin are the leading players in a field of six with Monets Garden, now aged 12, defending the Crown he won last year. Interestingly Barry Geraghty was on board for Nicky Richards that day but has been given the leg up by Paul Nicholls on Poquelin (3:25 Aintree). The seven-year-old has age on his side and should be too good for the rest, especially as he is in receipt of weight and looks to be an improving horse which Paul Nicholls holds in high esteem. The three met last season with Albertas Run winning, Monet’s Garden in third and Poquelin unseating Ruby Walsh in a race run over today’s course and distance. I think that the best approach is to side with the improver and I go for Poquelin here.

Cheltenham Festival Betting Tips

Poquelin can win at Aintree

My value bet of the day is Waffle (1:55 Doncaster) who didn’t handle the fibre sand of Southwell last time out and has the assistance of Frankie Dettori who was aboard last time, on turf, when third in this race 12 months ago. He comes here on a one pound lower mark and this looks to me like a Jeremy Noseda ‘s special so do not be surprised to see the money come early for Waffle. My advice is to take the price here and to back this horse each way at the early prices, remember nearly all bookmakers offer best odds guaranteed so you have nothing to lose in taking the price. For exchange players I would expect Dettori to have this one prominent and as such offers a decent back to lay opportunity, but a solid each way bet at decent odds is advise on Waffle.

Fridays Free Horseracing Tips, 22 October

The start of the last big meeting of the year at Doncaster kicks off on Friday. Racing Diary has your free horseracing tips ahead of a Group 1 weekend…..

Paul Hanagan

Champion Jockey 2010

3:55 Doncaster Flying Statesman, Win. Champion jockey-elect Paul Hanagan can delight the local crowd with victory aboard Flying Statesman at Doncaster. Hanagan still holds a double-figure lead over Richard Hughes as he bids to strike a famous blow for the north, with retained trainer Richard Fahey having proved a valuable ally in his championship quest. And it is the Musley Bank handler who can provide a winning opportunity in the Sovereign Health Care Handicap. The three-year-old has not seen much action this term, being limited to just two starts after three outings as a juvenile. He evidently needed his initial run on Town Moor last month, as he showed much improved form when not far away in a similar event to this at Haydock. Beaten just a length in fourth, he was finishing well that day on what was testing ground. Conditions are expected to be a little better here and having been raised just 1lb for that effort, Flying Statesman can use his relative freshness to good effect over some battle-weary rivals.

totesport.com

3:20 Doncaster Namibian looks a runner of some potential and is the choice in the Betfair Supports Sia And Heartbeat Appeal Nursery. Beaten at Goodwood on his racecourse bow, he was green enough that day but the experience evidently brought him on as he got his head in front next time out. He clearly enjoyed the easy ground at York that day and was more than three lengths clear at the finish without really having to hit top gear. Mark Johnston steps the Cape Cross up to a mile for the first time here but that is of little concern and he can sign off the season in style.

Supplementary entry Casamento heads Racing Post Trophy market

Casamento has been supplemented for Saturday’s Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster and totesport have installed Michael Halford’s colt as the 2/1 favourite for the mile event.

Dubawi Gold and Karam Albaari have also been supplemented for the race at a cost of £17,500 each but it is fellow Irish raider Dunboyne Express who is next in the market at 10/3.

‘Casamento found only Pathfork too good in the National Stakes but made no mistake in the Beresford next time out and Sheikh Mohammed’s colt sets a clear standard on form,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Aidan O’Brien has won the race three times in the past ten years and he has entered three in the race, with Seville the shortest priced of his trio at 9/2. The unbeaten Native Khan was last seen when winning the Solario Stakes at Sandown and has been chalked up at 11/2.
