Brown Short Price to be Gone by End of Month…

Money Talks…It Says Brown is on his way!

Is Brown a Dead Man Walking?

Is Brown a Dead Man Walking?

Pressure may be mounting in Westminster on Gordon Brown, but looking at Betfair, in racing terminology he is now off the bridle and struggling to stay in the race! Money has come today and Alan Johnson is now favourite to be the next Prime Minister.

David Cameron was favourite and certainly the Conservatives are 1.15 to win the election, but now Brown looks a goner. Alan Johnson is 2.66 favourite to be the next PM. The market for leaders exit dates shows that Gordon Brown is now 2.3 to be gone by the end of June, not June 2010 but in less than 4 weeks. The Labour Party now have only 18% support in the polls (the lowest figure ever) and the Conservatives hold a 22 point lead. No wonder David Cameron is calling for a general election! Labour MP’s could well move to oust Gordon Brown as they worry about their seats in the next general election. If they get rid now they could have a year to build up the support to stay on the Westminster gravey train. The market supports that view.

The money is coming in relatively big volumes, for a market that is normally quiet. You can Back or Lay those odds but it is not looking good for Gordon Brown.

It is like rats leaving a sinking ship with Jacqui Smith and now Communities Secretary Hazel Blears has quit the cabinet, increasing the pressure on Gordon Brown. Health Secretary Alan Johnson has been forced to deny he is ready to take over amid reports of a backbench plot to oust the PM. But the Betfair market says otherwise! Sky News has just reported that Labour MP’s are trying to get him to resign. They have a copy of an email doing the rounds and a plot is underway!

Adam Boulton, Political Editor at Sky News, says the decisive factor of course will be how the party does in this week’s council and European Elections. Of course they will lose and history could repeat itself.  Boulton says;

Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair were both forced out before their time and John Major spent his last few years fighting for survival until the 1997 General Election gave him the coup de grace. Basically for a leader to go he must lose his authority both with his own Government team and with backbenchers, fearful he is dragging them to oblivion. Margaret Thatcher suffered first the loss of her Chancellor Nigel Lawson in 1989 and then in 1990 the resignation of Sir Geoffrey Howe.  Read Jacqui Smith for Lawson, and wonder if Alistair Darling perhaps could be the Geoffrey Howe figure.

If the plot is in the offing, the market knows. If this was a race it would be a real gamble with someone knowing something! What do you think? Back Brown or Lay Brown… your opinion could make you money on Betfair…

Racing Diary Lands 6-1 Winning Double…

Hannon Win Double

Hannon Win Double

A Win Double Landed at Windsor…6/1+

Racing Diary advised a nice 6-1+ winning double on Monday. Lethal Glaze went off at 5-1 and Monsieur Chevalier was only a 1-3 shot after the race cut up badly. The 1-3 was an easy win that provided a nice bonus on our winnings.

Racing Diary advised the Double in our daily Horseracing Tips on Monday. This was a lovely winning double at Windsor completed by another double, the two Richards.

Both horses were trained by by Richard Hannon and ridden by Richard Hughes. It really was a winning double all round! If you placed your bet using a Betfair multiple on the betting exchanges then your return would be even higher as Lethal Glaze drifted on Betfair.

Richard Hughes was patient and landed the second leg of the win double to complete a treble. Both horses in fact completed a treble of wins.

Job Done…make sure you come back for more winners at Racing Diary!

Saturday’s Horseracing Tips…

Jamie Spencer

Jamie Spencer

Jamie Spencer will he be our Hero, or Villain?

If you are a regular reader of Racing Diary you will know that we are on Delegator for the 2000 Guineas today. I do not propose to go into detail about Brian Meehan’s colt again, you can read that from previous postings.

We have produced a full preview of the race…you can also see Mike Cattermole’s Video Preview of the 2000 Guineas (from Youtube)

We are holding 8/1 vouchers and I hope that Spencer rides Delegator up closer to the pace. If Murtagh gets first run, as he did last year on Henrythenavigator it could be decisive. Delegator has a turn of foot, but please Jamie, don’t give him too much to do!

I hope that Jamie Spencer gets Delegator home to win the 2000 Guineas. If you are backing any horse today then you MUST back it with Stan James. You get a £25 Free Bet plus they will give you 5% Bonus on your winnings.

You will find plenty on Racing Diary about the 2000 Guineas, but there is a great supporting card too at Newmarket. It starts with the Suffolk Stakes Handicap (2.00) where Spencer partners Flipando. I have put this one up today because I feel the form stacks up and the early prices look value. The partnership with Spencer and the third in The Lincoln of ground similar to today are a big plus.

I hope Spencer gets off to a flying start and his confidence is high. Certanly Flipando is an each-way bet today and gets Spencer in the winning habit.

Borderlescott (3.45) is everyone’s favourite sprinter and I will be backing him today to win on his seasonal return. Pat Cosgrave gave Robin Bastiman’s charge a fine ride to win the Nunthorpe, at Newmarket (rearranged from York) for a deserved Group 1 victory. The horse goes well fresh and has no penalty in this Group 3. You can get he will be ready. I had a horse with Bastiman who landed us a gamble after over 300 days off the course.

There is also a great day in store at Punchestown and some excellent football bets, but the big one is the Stan James 2000 Guineas, live on Channel 4 at 3.10pm. We took 8-1 about Delegator, lets hope it was a good investment.

Today’s Horseracing Betting Tips..

Quevega Can win at Punchestown

Quevega Can win at Punchestown

Top Class Stuff at Punchestown, Shame about the Rest!

I am enjoying the Punchestown Festival, despite mixed fortunes for our tips so far. Super Frank was a good winner yesterday and on the day before the 2000 Guineas, the cards are no up to much today.

That is with the exception of Punchestown where Mullins and Walsh are dominating proceedings.

Today I start writing for Betfair and I hope that I get off the mark with a nice winner. I have gone for Quevega as my bet of the Day in the 6.05 at Punchestown.

I was there to see Quevega destroy a quality field in the Mare’s Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, a performance that was as good as Master Minded’s in winning the 2007 Champion Chase, in my eyes. Willie Mullin’s has pitched the mare in against top class opposition, not least Champion Hurdler Punjabi who seeks to win the race he won last year.

Punjabi is not for me today, he wants faster ground. There is a top class field but Mullins and Walsh are in top form and Quevega is very special, which she will prove today.

The pair should also win the 6.35 with Mikael Dhaguenet who is very short, but looks a good thing and one for doubling up your bets today.

The only horse of interest in the UK today is La Capriosa (3.05) at Southwell. She was second at Redcar in a better Claimer and back on sand has the beating of the field. She was in front of Maddison Belle when they last met and should be again.

We laid one of Alan Mccabe’s yesterday, it got well beaten, but he should have a winner for us today!

Its the 2000 Guineas on Saturday, I can’t wait!

Thursday’s Horseracing Betting Tips…

Punchestown Day Three

Punchestown Day Three

We’ll Be Singing When We’re Winning at Punchestown

Mayhem broke out at Cheltenham after Forpadydeplasterer (6.40) won the Arkle, the owners singing loudly and brightening up the winners enclosure. It is back to business on home turf today as Forpadydeplasterer returns to action in the Swordlestown Cup Novice Chase on day three of the Punchestown Festival .

Barry Geraghty is back on board, facing only six rivals, including Tatenen who fell in The Arkle and came back to be second to Kalahri King at Aintree. Tony McCoy will ride the Paul Nicholls trained Tatenen with Ruby Walsh choosing Deutschland for Willie Mullins. Forpadydeplasterer missed the Aintree race in favour of this, a decision that could pay dividends for the choir of owners. I am very keen on Forpadydeplasterer today and will be a backer at 2.62. I will be a layer of Tatenen at 4.4, taking my lead from Ruby Walsh and I hope to be joining in the singing of the Forpadydeplasterer syndicate after he has won.

The big race of the day is the World Series Hurdle at 5.30. Nicky Henderson has withdrawn Punchestowns leaving Fiveforthree as the favourite. Trading at 2.52 to back, this is much too short in my eyes. I will take this one on today with Fair Along and Powerstation having solid each-way claims at better odds. Tony McCoy back on board Brave Inca is eye-catching to say the least. I do not think there is much between the favourite and Fair Along who I am backing win and place against the favourite.

My bet of the day is actually at Folkstone, rather than Punchestown today. Superfrank (3.55) was a good winner last time out over Course and Distance in an apprentice race and remains on a good mark. A big positive is the booking of Chris Catlin and I think Super Frank will frank the form.  Super Frank is a very solid proposition to back at 2.3 in a moderate 7 runner race.

One horse that jumps out of the card is Thomas Baines (5.25 Yarmouth). Trading at 1.33 this was the subject of controversy at Windsor amongst punters for the ride given by Jamie Spencer.  I am sure there will be no mistakes this time, but there will be none of my money on his back today!

Wednesday’s Horseracing Tips

Imperial Commander to win Guinness Gold Cup

Imperial Commander to win Guinness Gold Cup

Imperial to Command Guinness Gold Cup.

It was heart breaking to see Cooldine run out of steam yesterday, the last leg of the treble, but all was not lost as I hedged my position with a Lay on Cooldine to ensure a profit for the day. We had three lays come good yesterday and will look to follow-up today.

As well as the Punchestown Festival racing resumes at Ascot today. The highlight is the Sagaro Stakes (3.55) which looks at the mercy of Patkai. Sir Michael Stoute’s stayer was a winner of the Queen’s Vase at the Royal meeting last season and should be too good for his rivals. There may be some ground concerns for Tungsten Strike but Patkai could come home unchallenged.

It really is excellent stuff at Ascot. The opening event for two year olds features the best juvenile I have seen all season in the Barry Hills trained Red Jazz (2.10). Tom Dascome trains Walkingonthemoon who will have to get passed Red Jazz to win. On his blog Dascombe says “I’m not confident we can , he was really impressive when winning his debut at Windsor.” I would agree with that and will be Laying Walkingonthemoon. Red Jazz looks very special and I think he will win in good style. He will carry a good bet of mine.

I had a good look at Rose Diamond (2.45) who was fourth in the European Free Handicap and is the best horse in today’s field. Ryan Moore is booked by Roger Charlton but the stable’s form is a cause for concern.  With only one win from 20 runners this season coming in a Newbury Maiden I am shying away from taking the 2.42. That is the only negative and the booking of Moore must be significant.

My best bet of the day will once again be at Punchestown where there is another quality jumps card.  Imperial Commander (6.05) won the Paddy Power at Cheltenham then was  tailed off in the King George, when the stable were going through a poor run of form.

Nigel Twiston-Davis has had a strong end to the season and Imperial Commander came back to form at the Cheltenham Festival by taking the Ryan-Air  Chase, accounting for Voy Por Ustedes. That form is top class and was franked when the second won the Melling Chase, from Schindler’s Hunt who lines up in today’s race.

The Guinness Gold Cup is the best race of the day and the best horse in the race is Imperial Commander who I make my best bet of the day at 5.2.
