Conduit Japan Cup Bid

Conduit Japan Cup Bid

Conduit will need to be an “iron horse” if he is to win the Japan Cup in Tokyo, and he will bring new meaning to the word globetrotter if he can pull it off, according to his trainer Sir Michael Stoute. The colt, who won a second Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita in early November, will be chasing one of racing’s biggest paydays when he lines up against strong local opposition at Fuchu racecourse.

Japan Cup: 2-1 Conduit, 4-1 Vodka, 11-2 Screen Hero, 6-1 Logi Universe, 10-1 Oken Bruce Lee, Red Desire, 16-1 Reach the Crown, 20-1 Marsh Side, 25-1 Interpatation, Just as Well, 33-1 Meinder Kitz, 50-1 bar

A Great Night at Santa Anita- Breeders’ Cup 2009

Racing Diary had a brilliant Saturday evening at the Breeders’ Cup as Europe had a brilliant meeting! It was a brilliant night of racing at Santa Anita, USA for the Breeders Cup 2009.

Picture

Henry Cecil added a Breeders Cup win to his CV whilst Conduit and Goldikova defended their titles. Goldikova overcame an outside stall to win with a devastating turn of foot. Frankie Dettori kicked things off with a winner on Pounced. All were advised by Racing Diary! We also advised to back 6 or more winners with Stan James which was won in style!

Frankie Dettori gave Europe the perfect start to day two of Breeders’ Cup 2009 by winning the opening Juvenile Turf on John Gosden’s Pounced at Santa Anita. The Italian sent his mount – the 3-1 favourite – through a gap on the inside to take it up a furlong from home.

Goldikova emulated Miesque by winning back-to-back renewals of the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita. Trainer Freddie Head had the pleasure of riding Miesque and completed a remarkable feat that will take some matching. Draw 11 of 11, Olivier Peslier bided his time at the back of the field and had to weave through runners in the straight. The Americans tried to stop her with the draw, they couldn’t!

Conduit etched his name in Breeders’ Cup history when winning consecutive renewals of the Turf at Santa Anita on Saturday night. Sir Michael Stoute’s four-year-old had to work a good deal harder then when winning 12 months ago and Ryan Moore excelled on the chestnut. A brilliant race ride by Champion Ryan Moore, excellent!

The final race the $5m Classic went to Zenyatta who had won 13 from 13 and faced Rip Van Winkle, Twice Over and a field of colts. The start was disrupted which may have had an effect on proceedings. Zenyatta was slow out and was last in the early stages of the Classic, Rip Van Winkle was always up with the pace but didn’t handle the surface and was not competitive. To give them that much of a start was brave, but she stuffed them with a brilliant ride and that was one we got wrong but wow, what a superb filly! As good as we have seen, what a night!

Give This Lunatic a Life Ban from Racing

A man has been charged for blackmail over threats to harm Conduit before his victory in July’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. The Guardian newspaper has revealed that Andrew Rodgerson, 26, of Rochdale, is due to appear in Bolton crown court on December 1.  The man is clearly a lunatic and the BHA need to ban the man from every racecourse for life. The man probably needs sectioning.

Conduit Wins the King George

Conduit Wins the King George

Rodgerson is said to have sent text messages and e-mails to connections of the colt threatening to kill him unless he was withdrawn from the Group One. Peter Reynolds, manager of Ballymacoll Stud who own Conduit, is said to have received the demands in the days prior to the race while trainer Sir Michael Stoute discussed the issue with the British Horseracing Authority in order to get stronger security for his horse for his visit to the Berkshire course.

“This charge relates to an incident in which a racehorse owner received threats before a race at the end of July,” a spokesman for Greater Manchester police told the Guardian. I can confirm that a threat was made to me and the matter was placed in the hands of the police.”

Racing Diary Says:

Andrew Rodgerson, 26, of Rochdale is scum. He probably is some lunatic who makes idol threats but even to threaten to harm a horse is unacceptable. We need to rid the sport of sick morons like him and he should be banned from every course in the world. A picture of Andrew Rodgerson, 26, of Rochdale should be displayed in every racecourse and sent to every stable. He should also be pictured and named in all the racing media.

Stoute Rubbishes Conduit Rumours

Sir Michael Stoute has confirmed there to be no current problems with Conduit despite rumours about his well-being. The winner of the this year’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes is being aimed at back-to-back triumphs in the Breeders’ Cup Turf but drifted in the betting with some firms during the day.

Conduit no problems says Stoute

Conduit no problems says Stoute

Conduit was most recently seen finishing fourth to Sea The Stars in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

“We are not aware of any problems with Conduit,” the trainer said. He was just a bit colicky on Friday night but it has settled down and he has cantered since.”

Sunday, Longchamp Best Bets

Sea The Stars to make history at Longchamp…

I have backed Sea The Stars for the Arc, at a decent price, when his run was in the balance, so I don’t have to worry about lumping on at skinny prices.  I have watched, read and listened to the racing media over the last few days and am honestly staggered by some of what I have read, heard and seen. There seems to be some people who just want to see Sea The Stars get beaten and have gone in to great detail with reasons as to how and why that could happen, most of which are clutching very firmly at straws.

Can Sea The Stars win the Arc?

Can Sea The Stars win the Arc?

Sea The Stars (3.15) is no price, the value has long since gone, but the race is of huge significance. Should he win then he will be the best horse of all time, although there are plenty who will argue that he isn’t, the fact is he will be. I am not saying Sea The Stars is a certainty, but one thing is for sure he is the best horse in the race, by quite some way. He dismissed Fame and Glory in the Irish Champion and drew away from Conduit in the Eclipse.

Having seen Goldikova get beaten, by a suicidal early pace, it is clear that anything can happen. Mick Kinane is not going to get sucked into anything foolish but in such a big field he will need a degree of luck to avoid traffic problems. There is also the idiotic French rules and stewards who enforce them to contend with, which as we saw with Dar Re Mi is a consideration. There is always the worry that Sea The Stars has had a long season, but he looked fresh as a daisy when ambling past a quality field to land his fifth group one of the year.

Other horses represent good value, but what value has a losing bet? I think Sea The Stars will win to crown a simply fantastic season.  Conduit for me is the one for a place bet, at odds against there is some value there, but Sea The Stars for me is the winner. I have laid Fame and Glory.

The Prix De L’Abbaye is dominated by British runners with Fleeting Spirit a short price. I will be backing Borderlescott (12.45) each-way  to follow up on his Nunthorpe victory with Neil Callan having made a big difference last time and represents an excellent each-way proposition.

Borderlescott - at Longchamp

Borderlescott - at Longchamp

The card at Longchamp is simply fabulous with six group one races, simply stunning. Dick Turpin (1.55) I think will crown another exceptional season for the Hannon juveniles by winning the Grand Criterium. Unbeaten in four starts he has shown speed and should make it five and a first group one with Richard Hughes aboard.

It would be very fitting for Yeats (4.45) to close a wonderful career with a win in the Prix Du Cadran, a race in which he has a poor record. The difference this year is the ground, good ground is the key to Yeats which I think gives him a real chance here. It may be too much to ask for Sea The Stars and Yeats to both win, but Yeats is worth backing with the going in his favour.

Conduit Wins The King George, The Market Reaction

CONDUIT CROWNED AT ASCOT AS STOUTE SADDLES A KING GEORGE 1-2-3!

Conduit was crowned the 2009 King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner on Saturday, certainly assuring victory in the Flat Trainers Championship for handler Sir Michael Stoute. A masterful training performance saw the Freemason’s Lodge yard saddle the first three home in the Ascot Group One, with Tartan Bearer completing a Ballymacoll Stud 1-2, and stablemate Ask back in third.

William Hill cut the odds of Conduit’s Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe odds to 8-1 from 14-1, leaving Aidan O’Brien’s Fame and Glory as the 10/3 favourite from Sea the Stars at 4-1.  Ask was another to be trimmed for the Paris highlight, now available at 20-1 (from 25-1), with Tartan Bearer inserted into the betting at 14-1.

After an eye-catching defeat at Newmarket last time out, Alwaary prevailed for the Classic generation finishing fourth, and is now the 6-1 joint-favourite for the St Leger later this season, matching Golden Sword who was available at 4-1 prior to today’s events.

Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said:

‘’A truly dreadful result for the firms. Conduit is one of the best-backed ante-post winners of the season so far with punters availing themselves to odds as big as 6-1 when we priced-up back in early June. Our fate was sealed from some way out as the charge of the Stoute brigade set up another epic renewal of the King George.’’

Paddy Power cuts Conduit to 7-4 favourite

Top-class English and Irish form will be put to the test by Look Here, who is a 13-2 shot with Paddy for Saturday’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, after last year’s English Oaks heroine was among today’s 11 confirmations for one of the most prestigious middle distance events in the world this weekend.

The Hernando filly went down by two noses in third in the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom in June in a race won by Ask, who reopposes and is a 11-1 chance with Power, before filling the same position in the 10-furlong Audi Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh later in the same month.

Her trainer Ralph Beckett is looking forward to stepping his charge back up to a mile and a half. The Hampshire handler said this morning: “She is fine, in good nick, and has gone well since the Pretty Polly. I would think that the way the race will be run, the distance and the track will all suit her.”

Although the four-year-old has won on good to soft ground, when she landed her maiden from Doctor Fremantle at Salisbury, Beckett is hoping that the forecast unsettled week of weather does not include much rain around the Berkshire area.

He added: “She would prefer quicker ground than a slower surface. It was a close battle with Ask at Epsom and I am looking forward to the race and taking him on again.”

Conduit was this morning cut to 7-4 favourite (from 15-8 favourite), while stable companion Tartan Bearer, who is also owned by Ballymacoll Stud, was simultaneously pushed out to 9-2, but is back into 7-2 after the confirmations. Golden Sword was also on the drift this morning with the world’s friendliest bookmaker, who went 6-1 (from 5), but is again a 5-1 shout after the confirmations.

Paddy Power spokesman Paddy Power said: “The way that the shrewd money came for Conduit this morning, we are pretty sure that he will be Ryan Moore’s mount and have been forced to cut him into 7-4 favourite. But it’s highly intriguing that Moore could still change his mind and that Ballymacoll has suggested that it can’t separate Conduit and Tartan Bearer.”

King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (after today’s confirmations)

Paddy Power bet: 7-4 Conduit, 7-2 Tartan Bearer, 5 Golden Sword, 13-2 Look Here, 11 Ask, 12 Cima De Triomphe, Frozen Fire, 20 Alwaary, 40 Scintillo, 50 Freemantle, 200 Rockhampton

Tops Class Stuff on Offer at Sandown…

What a great day yesterday and what a great price was Ton Dascombe’s filly. It was pleasing to have such a nice winner of the listed Hillary Needler Trophy last night and Don’t Tell Mary is now a serious Royal Ascot contender now. There are a few more of those on show at Sandown tonight.

There can be no complaints about the quality at Sandown this evening, it is the best evening meeting of the season. There are 4 pattern races made up of 2 listed, a group 2 and a group 3 for us to get stuck into and make a few quid.

We will start with a nice double. The first leg runs in the listed National Stakes (6.35) where Monsieur Chevalier looks the one to take. Richard Hannon’s undefeated colt is can arrive at Royal Ascot with yet another win and confirm his status as the season’s best two year-old colt. He will not be much of a price tonight but looks one of two bankers which I suggest backing in a Double.

The second leg of the double runs the feature race on the card, the group two King Henry II Stakes (7.10). Patkai is another Royal Ascot bound contender and can enhance his Gold Cup claims here this evening. Last time out at Ascot he absolutely annihilated his rivals and looks a stayer of the highest order who cannot be opposed, certainly not tonight. The advice is to Double UP on Monsieur Chevalier (6.35) with Patkai (7.10). I will also finally get the chance to lay Geordieland (7.10) at a short price in running, who travels well but rarely finds anything which I anticipate being the scenario once again up the Sandown hill. Punt in a lay at evens and you should collect!

The class horse on show at Sandown is another Sir Michael stoute stable star, Conduit (7.45) who won the St Leger for he and Frankie Dettori and was last seen out winning at the Breeders Cup at Santa Anita, calafornia. He has to concede a penalty all round and the 10 furlong trip may not be his optimum but this is a genuine group 1 horse who should have the class to win at what, looking at the market, is an excellent price. He should be better than this lot and despite the trip has every chance. Ryan Moore is in brilliant form and another ride like the one that landed the Breeders Cup will see Conduit and us in clover tonight! Get on Conduit tonight!
