Racing is back at Epsom today where we have a 14-1 Tip

There were some red faces yesterday after Billy Beetroots run at Folkstone. He went off too fast and failed to see out the 6 furlongs at that speed, much to the annoyance of many. We came out unscathed as the lay of Mythical Blue was never in doubt despite its strong market support. We followed up with a lay of Lady Bora who was heavily punted but failed to show and was easily held.  Now we move on to Wednesday in search of further winners.

Epsom stages it’s first meeting of the year which looks a very good card but is competitive to say the least! There are some good bets there, for the brave and we should get some good prices given the size and make up of the card.

Ladies Best (4.15) was I thought rather eye-catching at Pontefract getting a dream opening to score cheekily. The booking of George Baker is a strong statement of intent by the stable and looks to be  on a handy mark for a repeat victory bid. Up only 3lbs for his win leaves him still 2lb lower than the mark he ran off in June to finish second over today’s course and distance. Betfair shows Ladies Best to be a 13-1 chance this morning and a win and place investment (first four) is my plan today. Big price in a very competitive race but has a great chance and is worth a small investment.

The Perth Festival starts today, over the jumps which traditionally for me is a nightmare. I keep telling myself to forget the jumpers this time of year. Despite the firm ground there are decent fields, but I fear many non-runners and the toll of a long season on many of the runners makes it far to unpredictable to come out on top. It is a good meeting and very enjoyable, but not one for me to get involved with.

Kempton stages an all-weather card tonight which I usually do not bother with, but Green Agenda (8.20) who won at Thirsk on Friday is out again (8.20) and I think will win again under a penalty. Another competitive affair but the 5.4 on Betfair looks value and I think is worth backing.

Laying for Success…
I was speaking to a fellow punter yesterday, Dave McAuley who runs an excellent site called Formbet, and he was telling me that he had compiled some stats that showed if you laid all the odds on shots over the past 3 years for £100 you would be over £100k in profit. I was staggered. I have invited Dave to Post on the site and has agreed to do so which will be great, but those stats kept me awake (for a few minutes) last night. Very interesting! I have a two year old to lay today and infact have already done so at 5-1. I was reading Tom Dascombes blog last night who said he had a Monkey called Gertmegalush who he expected would unleash very little at Catterick (2.20) in the seller. Already gelded Dascombe gave the impression that this is not one of his stable stars and is in fact useless. Given those words I have laid him and will never trust a trainer again if he hoses up today!

Get On Desperate Dan at Wolves Today

Well certainly lots to choose from today. Something for everyone, with Flat, Jumps, All-Weather and Irish racing this afternoon and evening. There is plenty to go at, but what we have in quantity we lack in quality.

I have a 10/3 very strong horse racing back bet today. That is on the Premier Service today and I think that the bookmakers have made the wrong horse favourite. If you want to be on, then join right now.

Elsewhere I will be laying a couple today starting with Standpoint of Sir Michael Stoute at Pontefract (3.10). I would be very surprised if at least one of the others is not better than the standard of only 74 that the Favourite sets. At 3.1 I am more than prepared to take a chance on Standpoint getting beaten today.

You’re The Top (4.25 Kempton) Won a poor race last time, although Nicky Henderson’s horse won it very easily it was not a good race and his form prior to that was not very good at all. On Betfair this morning the horse is 2.18 to win, and I think that is very short.  The trouble is that there is only Proper really on side so heavily laying You’re the Top is risky, but it could be worth a small investment, on the basis that we would be in profit after Standpoint’s race.

Henderson has the favourites of both divisions of the bumper at Kempton. Random division too, who would have thought it! Again his horses should go well, but I am not prepared to take those short prices.

To give you one to back today is not an easy task, Premier Service members have the best bet by far today but I think Desperate Dan is the best chance otherwise at Wolves (3.50). This horse is tough and consistent and in Claimers will keep on winning, until he gets claimed by some clueless trainer in search of winners and his form then dips. 2.84 on Betfair is an excellent price and I think this is a good bet.

Delegator now 2000 Favourite

We told you this morning, Back Delegator for the Craven Stakes today, because he would win and he did!  We also told you to back Delegator before today’s for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 2nd. 7/1 was his price generally this morning, now Delegator is 3/1 favourite for the 2000 Guineas.

The advice today is to Back Delegator for Todays 3.35 Craven Stakes. also back Delegaor on Betfair for the 2000 Guineas as he will shorten and you can decide whether to take a profit today or let the value ride.

The clock told us that this was a good trail. Spencer brought him from off the pace too and he clocked a time of 1 m 36.56 sec’s. With progression and a faster early pace this looks 2000 Guineas winning speed.

If like me you backed the Colt on Betfair this morning (as advised) you now have a great bet. If like me you did back the horse on Betfair you have somnice options now. I had £200 on at 8-1 and can now either

• get my £200 back by laying at 5-1 for a free bet on Delegator
• Wait and lay the horse later as he will surely go down to 3/1 as The 2000 Guineas draws closer
• Sit back and wait as I have 8-1 about a horse that is now 3/1 favourite.

United take on Porto

With the Ferdinand/Vidic partnership restored at the centre of the United defence, we expect Utd to plug those holes that have been appearing in their defence in the last couple of months. We expect an immense game from this pairing tonight.

Oporto showed just what a good side they are last week, they are nobody’s whipping boys and the skills were silky at times BUT they are in the “box seats” with two away goals and we expect them to defend that away goal lead and try to catch Man Utd on the break again.

The first half is likely to be cagey with each side probing sporadically. Not a thriller like last night, but than last night’s performance between English sides would have brought a wry smile to Sir Alex’s face – not his style at all!

Oporto will be very difficult for United to break down, but 0-0 will suit United at half-time, less time for a fight back. We are happy to take it too at 2/1 on Betfair.
