A far cry for York and Longchamp, we have a day at Catterick with meetings also at Leicester and Southwell. Here are your Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary.
Free Horseracing Tips for Tuesday…..
4:00 Catterick, Picture Editor, Win. It was difficult not to have been impressed by Picture Editor‘s debut win, and he should not be opposed in the ladbrokes.com Squirrel Conditions Stakes at Leicester. Henry Cecil’s colt was sent off at double-figure odds at Doncaster but that was largely down to the presence of hot favourite Nathaniel, who had finished a notable second to Cecil’s Frankel on his first start. Nathaniel did travel like the winner for much of the contest, but Picture Editor showed an excellent change of gear to nail him right on the line. The form was given another boost with the third home, Genius Beast, coming out and winning since. And with just two rivals in opposition, it would be one of the shocks of the season if Picture Editor does not maintain his unbeaten record.
Free Horseracing Tips from Racing Diary, on Tuesday. Last week was Glorious Goodwood, today is not so Glorious but I think we have a winner!
I can’t wait for York later in the month, Harbinger, Starspangledbanner and a host of top names look set to line up on the Knavesmire. It will be a good Tuesday that week I can tell you!
Free Horseracing Tips for Tuesday…
5:00 Catterick, Mad Millie, Win. I did the trainers courses at Newmarket and Doncaster at the same time as David O’Meara and it was clear then that this is a guy who knows his onions. He is doing really well, and I am sure this is through a combination of hard work and talent. He saddles Mad Mille in the last race at Catterick. David O’Meara’s three-year-old filly made an encouraging start for new connections at Thirsk two months ago when staying on for second behind Imperial Djay, who is two years older and far more experienced. Mad Millie should be a lot fitter for this assignment and remains intriguingly weighted off a mark of 58 – especially as he was considered good enough to compete at Group Two level as a juvenile. I fancy it will be another winner for the O’Meara camp.
I think I will keep it at one bet on Tuesday. Get on now with William Hilll and claim your £25 Free bet….

Its back to work on Tuesday; Here are your Free Horseracing Tips for today;
2:40 Newcastle Destinys Dream can atone for a recent near-miss at Doncaster with a victory in Newcastle’s Border Minstrel Re-Opening 14th May Handicap. Tracy Waggott’s mare, formerly trained by Ann Duffield, travelled like the best horse in the race on Town Moor last week but was beaten two heads into third.Phillip Makin, who is back on board, oozed confidence travelling in behind the pack and it looked only a matter of when he decided to press the button. The response was not immediate, but the five-year-old did eventually pick up.
However, she struggled to wear down Mark Johnston’s Interdiamonds and eventually they were both beaten by the fast-finishing Carlton Scroop. The handicapper has dropped her 1lb to 67, just 1lb lower than her last winning mark, and it looks like she is not far off going in again. This contest does not look as competitive as the last one and, given a trouble-free run, she should be bang there at the finish.
3:40 Newcastle Kronful; Michael Jarvis has a good strike-rate at Gosforth Park so it has to be of some interest that he sends Kronful on the long journey north for the PFS And Direct Technology Maiden Fillies’ Stakes. A daughter of Singspiel, she was always going to need middle distances so it was pleasing to see her run so well on her debut over seven furlongs last term.
The female side of her family is loaded with stamina so her third place at Beverley was full of promise. On her seasonal reappearance over 10 furlongs she took part in what could turn out to be a hot Newbury maiden. The winner, Marcus Tregoning’s Heddwyn, really could be anything and Henry Cecil thinks a fair bit of the runner-up, Protaras. Kronful finished a close-up fourth against the boys so a northern maiden would look a formality, especially with Frankie Dettori in the plate.
5:30 Bath Desert Strike On a tricky-looking card at Bath, Paul Cole’s Desert Strike could be the answer in the Elite Telecom Handicap. Second at Nottingham last week, it could just be his turn again.
8:00 Catterick Concurrence is a tentative suggestion in the catterickbridge.co.uk Handicap at the Richmondshire venue. Arguably one of the best-bred horses in training, being by Elusive Quality and out of the brilliant Oaks and Irish Derby winner Balanchine, he must be a good deal better than he showed on his debut. He could only finish eighth of 10 at Lingfield but, to be fair, he was not beaten too far at all. Most of his rivals look fairly exposed and he would not have to improve greatly to get involved.
6:50 Exeter Karanja can defy top weight in the Peter Hahn Cashmere Classic Handicap Hurdle at Exeter, while King Ar Aghaidh should win Fakenham’s At The Races Novices’ Chase.

It is a desperate set of cards of that we are presented with on Tuesday. I will not mention again that it is only two weeks, to the day before the start of the Cheltenham Festival. We will not have this problem in two weeks time.
I have one free horseracing tip for you on Tuesday;
3:00 Catterick, Desperate Dex- Win. Ferdy Murphy looks to have improved this one out of hand with two wins from two outings since taking over the training. The handicapper as shoveled on the weight but there is every possibility that there is plenty more to come. In a poor race, off such a low weight I am prepared to side with the in form horse and at the prices he is my one and only bet of the day.

It has been a terrible week both in terms of weather and results. It has been dire stuff in truth but the performance of some of the horses I have put up have been mind blowingly poor.
I much prefer goood quality racing and this Saturday looks like it could be a very high quality day. Lets face it nothing can be as bad as this week.
Chepstow has already gone and Catterick will hold a morning inspection ahead of their jumps meeting. Bangor should be fine along with all-weather cards at Lingfield and Wolverhampton.
It is a struggle today and small stakes are advised. I really like the look ofone at Catterick, so fingers crossed. Here are two bets for Friday, weather permitting;
2:45 Catterick, The Snail- Win. Last time out The Snail trotted up. Despite a penalty Evan Williams’ horse can win his sixth race in a row. He was a ready winner at Musselburgh over hurdles and I think there is plenty left in the tank. Whats Up Woody would be the one to worry about with Howard Johnson in such good form. I think though this one had a very hard race at Hexham and only just got home. For me The Snail has plenty in hand and worth backing again.
5:05 Woverhampton, Grey Command- Win. Mel Brittain is another trainer in fine form ahead of next month’s turf season kick off. Grey Command is also a horse in form and arrives here looking for a hat-trick following last week’s course and distance win where he stayed on well to win comfortably. This is a relatively straightforward task, hopefully!

Not the greatest race you will ever see, in fact this is a race full of out of form types that are either regressive, temperamental or useless.
‘
That said there is one in here that literally stands out like a ‘barmaids bristols’ in the shape of the Chris Grant trained MARDOOD. This gelding is without doubt the most consistent of this motley bunch and on three of his last four efforts he would win this race (the other one was after a six month absence). Take a butchers at his last start and it makes you want to back him. It was a class four race over three furlongs further than today’s trip over the same course. Today’s race is a drop in class in terms of the quality of the opposition and the form of this race bares close inspection. The horse he beat into fourth MR FLOPPY has since won a handicap chase and the sixth horse home CRYSTAL PRINCE was successful in a better race than this at Plumpton on Monday.
If he were a better animal then I would rate him as a maximum bet against this lost for his sheer consistency alone. But he isn’t and he isn’t the most fluent of jumpers either. But it would be a major disappointment if he didn’t win this poor contest. He gets further than this trip as well so won’t fail through lackof stamina. He got on well with todays pilot Callum Whillans last time and I’m confident MARDOOD will do the business today.
2.20 catterickbridge.co.uk HANDICAP CHASE (3) 3m 1f110y
Three horses I like in this and both have sound claims of building on a resurgence in form. The Don McCain trained BALLABRIGGS made a very encouraging return to the racecourse after clearly suffering from a problem, when a good third behind TARATEENO in a handicap hurdle. He shaped as thugh he retained plenty of ability as he was travelling all over his rivals in the straight only to run out of steam after the second last. He was beaten twelve lengths but was only two lengths down at the last. The return to the larger obstacles, where in 2007/2008 he was establishing himself as a likeable progressive chaser can only be in his favour. Without doubt he’s the class act of the field and should go close to defying top weight.
HERECOMESTANLEY is an evergreen eleven year old who has now put together good back to back efforts to suggest he is coming back to something like his recent best, form which will take him close to winning here. He didn’t get the run of the race at Fakenham last time but the way he travelled suggests that he can take advantage of a mark ten pounds lower than in the spring of last year. His form at Leicester on his penultimate start was franked with the winner going in again off a seven pounds higher mark (dropped 4lbs from that run). He should be more than competitive in this race today.
Last but not least the only other piece in the jigsaw and that’s the Howard JOhnson trained CANADA STREET, whom it has to be said is not the most fluent jumper of fences but such is his mark no that he will simply bolt up in one of these one day when he gets his act together. You simply can’t leave him out of the equation and I cannot see the winner coming from anyhwere else than the above three. Our play rates at least 4/3 against in that we are due around 7pts return for a 3pts outlay providing one of our selections wins.
3.45 lingfieldpark.co.uk HANDICAP (6)(D.II) (AWT) 1m
For anyone that saw VERY WELL RED win the other day it’s surely a matter of whether this horse is in the same mood again today rather than the opposition being good enough to beat her. She’s fallen to a very attractive mark now and the bounce back to form came out of the blue and she can be moody (has unshipped her rider in the stalls before). However all things considered a repeat of her latest effort would see her bolt up and at 4/1 this morning this rates as well worth the risk. She will come into this race fit and more importantly she likes to race prominently and there is very little speed in this race so if things click into place this mare should follow up her Kempton win.

After losing Newbury and Ludlow we now lose Chepstow on Friday. The big cards on Saturday at Ascot and Haydock should go ahead as scheduled.
Twist Magic faces seven rivals as he bids for back-to-back Grade One successes in the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot on Saturday, a top class race that I am very much looking forward to.
Diamond Harry will make his chasing debut on Saturday, already quoted at 10-1 for Cheltenham glory before he has ever jumped a fence in public, surely we cannot be robbed once again of a top class Saturday.
Friday is pretty moderate, Catterick over jumps and all-weather action at Lingfield and Wolverhampton. As I have said before I am focusing on the jumps, so not a great deal to go at today. Certainly if you look at the first race at Catterick it is enough to put you off jumps racing for life.
Here are my best bets of the day on Friday;
1:50 Catterick, Percussionist- Win. Howard Johnson clearly has his horses fit, despite the recent cold spell, as we saw at Newcastle on Wednesday.A top class flat performer he has done well over jumps and is indeed looking for a hat-trick after wins at Hexham at Kelso. I would suggest that he is a good bet to win here for a trainer and jockey who are in good form.
2:55 Catterick, Tilt- Win. Tilt was a very good winner first time out over this course and steps up in trip as he bids to follow-up. On the flat he looked to have had enough but jumping looked to have given him a new lease of life. The step up in trip should suit him and with class to burn he would be my idea of the best bet of the day. I would worry about the Howard Johnson trained Milans Man who won well at Sedgefield but I think Tilt will be too good for these.

Another poor set of cards today with Catterick, as grim as it gets for a day of racing in winter, Folkstone and Southwell being the venues on Tuesday.
The quality that is coming our way over the next couple of weeks could not be further from the fayre on the menu today. If you were thinking of a day off to get ready for the holidays, then this is it!
My plan is to try and steal a few quid, but it will be hard work. I reckon I have found a couple that could do it, one at Folkstone and the other at my not so favourite course, Catterick. Here they are;
13:00 Folkstone- You’re So Vain- Win. Named after a famous Carly Simon Song, You’re So Vain was a very good winner first time up in a bumper and goes straight over hurdles for the very in form Warren Greatrex. Noel Fehily takes the ride, a jockey I think is under rated in the shadow of the likes of McCoy and Johnson, and is a big positive here. Samurai Way is an interesting horse who was rated 108 on the flat but has failed tos parkle so far over jumps. He didn’t seem to appreciate the jumping game to me and looks vulnerable again here to a potentially exciting type. McCoy rides Ashley Lad for Nick Gifford and should be respected but I think that we are on the right one at what I hope is a decent price with You’re So Vain.

Blue Sky a long way off!
1:50 Catterick, Youngstown- Win. It will be heavy at Catterick, it will be grim too, going to the toilet in the open air toilets in the pouring rain is not my idea of a great day out! I will be at home in the warmth watching on Racing UK. Donald McCain is in form, winning with one in four of his runners over the last couple of weeks. We know that the gelding will handle the conditions and with Jason Maguire in the saddle we have another good pilot at the controls. He won well last time at Market Rasen and I think he is on a fair mark in this handicap that will be a proper test of stamina. He should be fresh after exactly a month since his last outing, all the boxes are ticked and I make Youngstown my Nap of the day.
The best advice is to take it easy and keep stakes to a minimum on Tuesday.
13:00 Folkstone- You’re So Vain- Win
1:50 Catterick, Youngstown- Win
Dont Worry it gets better soon…

By Carl Harris
Three jumps meetings with Ayr, Catterick and Plumpton staging cards of varying quality. Catterick is a pretty grim place to go, even in summer, but in winter it is particularly desperate. A few quid invested in the track is badly needed but that said there is an interesting card there today.
Kempton stages an all-weather meeting under the lights, which once again is not for me. I am sticking to the jumps which has allowed me to put more time in to the cards, with less to study, and has paid handsome dividends so far. The weekend is once again shaping up as very good. The Tingle Creek will be a great race and is up for grabs now Master Minded is absent.
Here are my best bets for Wednesday.
12:50 Ayr, Bedlam Boy- Win. Ferdy Murphy has definitely changed his early season training regime, if results are any indication. Bedlam boy was an easy winner on his chase debut last month at Carlisle and can follow-up here. He should strip fitter for that win in what looks a pretty poor race with the only worry being whether we can get a decent price for the layers. A banker bet today is Bedlam Boy.
14:05 Plumpton, Carrickmines- Win. A winner last week, a very easy one by eighteen lengths, Carrickmines is sure to go up significantly in the weights and therefore is out again under a penalty. His six opponents are not in winning form and it looks as though the race is at the mercy of Dr Newland’s charge with the excellent Daryl Jacob in the saddle.

Master Minded misses Tingle Creek
14:35 Plumpton, Shore Thing- Win. No price, one for the multi-bets but another that I like to double up my bets with for a nice Brucie bonus on winnings.
14:15 Catterick, Alegralil- Win. Again no great prices on offer but Donald McCain has a decent mare on his hands. She has won two bumpers and made a very pleasing start over hurdles at Towcester. The old adage about Towcester form certainly doesn’t apply here as she looks a genuine top class performer who will readily give weight away to this field and win. If the price is attractive then Alegralil is the best bet of the day.

Steve Cauthen was 18 years old when he won the American Triple Crown on Affirmed, and Lester Piggott was the same age when he rode his first Derby winner at Epsom in 1954. But even now that Saturday's post-race adrenalin rush has started to subside, it is possible to argue that in terms of its impact and the manner in which it was achieved, Mickaël Barzalona's victory on Pour Moi has no … [Full Story...]
