Monday Free Horseracing Tips…..

Storming Gale (2:10) can kick off the day at Carlisle with a good win. A point to point winner in ireland he looked the business when winning a maiden hurdle at Ffos Las. Not a strong race and connections I am sure will be disappointed not to win this.

Finlay (4:40) can make it a McCain double. Though he hasn’t had much experience and need to brush up on his jumping his form, runner-up to Antonius Caesar at Leicester should be good enough to win. A double for us and for Donald McCain is on the card.

After a great week at Glorious Goodwood we are back down to Earth on Monday with some low grade stuff. Goldikova trotted up on Sunday for her tenth Group 1 success, sadly nothing like that today…

7:55 Carlisle, Skyfire, Win. Mark Johnston’s colt has not been out of the first two in his last four starts and can race off the same mark as when narrowly beaten at Newmarket by Nosedive last week. The sable are in fine form at present and for the day this is not a bad race, but I suggest that consistent top weight will win here and give us a nice profit.

3:30 Newton Abbot, Dreamwalk, Win. We go over jumps, which is not something we have done much of late. I do think that we have a very good novice on show here in a pretty decent race, it has to be said. Dreamwalk is preferred  to Marc Aurele and Rio Gael. The former Ralph Beckett in-mate has taken his time to get used to his new surroundings but he seems on good terms with himself these days as two recent successes are testament to. He landed short odds at Worcester last time out and was eased down close home. The three timer looks on today. NAP.

Carlisle and Market Rasen Off, Lingfield and Wolverhampton On

Carlisle and Market Rasen are off but all weather racing at Lingfield and Wolverhampton is on. Get your free horseracing tips for Monday.

Carlisle is Off

Monday afternoon’s National Hunt meeting at Carlisle has become the latest casualty of the current cold spell. Officials at the Cumbrian venue called an inspection for 8am but after another night of sub-zero temperatures the decision was made early. Clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch said:

“We got down to -4C which was a good deal colder than what we were forecast. It was still frozen in places yesterday and while it was coming out slowly, those sort of temperatures brought us right back to square one. We had additional fleeces down but the parts that weren’t covered would take a great deal of work to get us raceable and we don’t have the time.”

Wolverhampton is On

Monday afternoon’s all-weather meeting at Wolverhampton will go ahead after an 8am precautionary inspection was brought forward. Officials had been worried about the prospect of of overnight snow in the Dunstall Park area but that nothing arrived.

“The snow that we were forecast failed to materialise,” said clerk of the course Fergus Cameron. It did drop to -4C overnight but the temperatures are already on the rise and it is due to get to +4C. It’s all systems go, some good news for a change.”

Market Rasen also Off

Monday’s National Hunt fixture at Market Rasen has been abandoned due to frost and snow. Although a slight thaw late on Sunday morning offered a degree of optimism, the situation was considered untenable following a mid-afternoon inspection. Clerk of the course Sulekha Varma reported: “It stopped snowing at around 11.30am and it began to start thawing.

“We thought we might get away with it, but the course is still frozen so we’ve had to abandon.”

There are no problems at Lingfield.

It was a brilliant weekend at the Breeders’ Cup and yesterday, though not much of a price, Get Out Of Here confirmed that he is a decent horse in the making and one I fully expect to see at Cheltenham in March. The flat season is over so the next few months are all about jumps and all-weather racing which is what we have on offer on Monday; two jumps and one all-weather meeting. Carlisle is where my attention will be focused, despite the heavy going as well as Southwell where I am interested in a hurdle débutante.

1:55 Carlisle, Roll Along, Win (NAP)

Roll Along (13:55) isa decent horse over hurdles, boasting a handicap mark of 160 and exceptionally high class form. He makes his debut today for the Twiston-Davies yard, formally being with Carl Llewellyn, over fences which he last tackled when finishing fourth in a grade one chase in Ireland and was sixth to Kauto Star in the Gold Cup before that. On official ratings he has seventeen pounds in hand and I see no reason why he will not open his account for his new trainer at the first time of asking with Graham Lee taking the ride. Looking at the early prices on offer on Betfair I am rubbing my eyes. Am I missing something? Roll Along should be longs odds on, in my view.He goes well fresh and should hack up here.

2:45 Southwell- Holoko Heights, Win

Michael Owen was in London with Manchester United on Sunday, seeing Chelsea beat them 1-0 in an important Premier League match so I doubt he will be minded to venture toSouthwell to watch his horse Holoko Heights (14:45) make his hurdling debut. Now in the care of Tim Vaughan, formerly with Nick Vaughan, he has modest form on the flat but  as we know Tim Vaughan likes to get them fit for their first run and has a record of improving horses beyond belief. The booking of Richard Johnson is eye-catching here and there are whispers already that this is one to be on first time out on a very fair course.

Sundays Horseracing Tips, 1 November

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

Its November now, we are really in the jumps season with only the Breeders Cup left as far as major attention is concerned on the flat, which takes place next weekend at Santa Anita, California.I can’t tell you how pleased I will be to put October behind me, my worst month for a few years, in fact a total disaster!

Wetherby was enjoyable yesterday, but I was a bit disappointed with the crowd who booed Barry Gerraghty for his error, which I suppose after the race is fair enough but to carry on doing it all afternoon, moronic. He didn’t do it on purpose and will miss twelve days of racing including the big open meeting at Cheltenham. He has paid for his error and came out like a gentleman and said sorry.

So, Sunday and there are two jump meetings and an all-weather jumps card at Lingfield, very much the shape of things to come. Not much of a betting day for me, plenty to do with the family but I will have my eye firmly on the action at Carlisle.

2.05 Carlisle – Killyglen, Win

The Hennessy is the target for Killyglen (14:05) who should therefore be up to winning here at Carlisle. AP McCoy is an eye-catching booking in the absence of Howard Johnson’s stable jockey and in fairness connections can expect a commanding performance by a horse who should be far better than this field. McCoy fresh from a good day at Ascot on Saturday will be looking to make the trip north worth it. It is also of note that McCoy is not riding the McManus runner in order to ride Killyglen. A big chance.

Thats it for me, one bet, hopefully one winner, good luck.

Fridays Horseracing Tips, 9th October

By Carl Harris

By Carl Harris

I said on Thursday that I was ready for a good day and bingo, two very good winners at decent prices. The Snail proved anything but for the second time in 24 hours and Tony McCoy maintained his 100 percent record aboard Good Harvest, which exactly what we reaped from the layers.

Thursday was an excellent day made all the better by learning that Anton Du Beke from Strictly Come Dancing is actually really called Tony Beak!

Friday is another mixed day of racing with something for everyone. Jumps action, flat turf and all weather racing under the floodlights at Wolverhampton is on offer. We will stick with McCoy and Jonjo O’Neil again who will hopefully make a long journey north worthwhile.

4.50 Carlisle- Native City, Win (NAP)

Tony McCoy is looking to comlete the hat-trick aboard Native City (4.50) at Carlisle which can be landed despite a six pound hike in the weights. Last time out at Southwell Native City won well, with the first two home finishing well clear of the rest. I was a backer that day and thought he won with a good bit in hand. With the yard going so well and Tony McCoy in the saddle Native City is a very good bet, infact my best bet of the day.

McCoy the man in form

6.20 Wolverhampton- Worth a Kings, Win

Neil Callan is one of my favourite jockeys. He is always very positive, seems to always be in the right spot during a race and gives his all, no matter what level of race. Callan takes the ride aboard Worth a Kings (6.20) for Sir Michael Stoute. Another hat-trick seeker, Worth a Kings has an extra five pounds to contend with but this is a moderate race which should go to the in form horse.

Mondays Horseracing Tips, 3rd August

After a great week at Goodwood and a big weekend of racing we drop down to Earth with a huge bump on Monday with the most polite thing I can say about the four UK cards is mediocre.  Personally I will not be placing any bets at all today, I do not have the inclination to do so!

Having had a look at the cards I have two selections for those who fancy a flutter, but I would stress that my advice is to play small, if at all today.

Goldikova won a group one on Sunday. Today its poor fayre...

Goldikova won a group one on Sunday. Today its poor fayre...

3.00 Newton Abbot -Stumped, Win

With England doing well at Edgbaston, although that could change quickly, Stumped (3.00) could be a topical winner. It’s a case of horses for courses with this selection. Andy Haynes’ charge has finished first and second over course and distance on his last two starts and could win once again in a tricky looking encounter. With Dominic Elsworth, his regular jockey, taking the ride I would just plump for the top weight to take this claimer.

7.15 Carlisle- Legal Legacy, Win

Legal Legacy (7.15) is in fantastic form, having notched up a hat-trick and I think that the four-timer is not out of the question. Michael Dodds has done very well with his three year-old who started winning from a mark of 60 and now runs of 80. There has to be an upper limit to the mark he can win from but this is a race that is short of serious opposition and I would stick with the in form sprinter. Like Stumped the selection has the benefit of his regular pilot which could make all the difference.
