Confederation Cup USA Vs Italy betting tips

Take Italy to beat the USA in today's Confederation Cup clash but don't expect a goal fest

Take Italy to beat the USA in today's Confederation Cup clash but don't expect a goal fest

USA Vs Italy live on BBC3, 7-30 pm Monday 15th June 2009

Italy arrive at the Confederation Cup with a very strong squad and a formidable record in qualification for the World Cup 2010 and should have too much for the USA team. I expect this game to be competetive and combative and ticks all my boxes for a great game to watch provided that Marcello Lippi doesnt field too many of the younger players that he expects to take with him to the World Cup next year.

This is Italy’s first entry into the Confederation Cup and so we should hope that they have come to win it. Italy are 5.3 on Betfair to win the tournament outright and 2.68 to win this stronger group and if Brazil fail to impress earlier in the day (perhaps due to wanting to be on holiday or concentrate on new contracts for next season) then these could prove to be lucrative odds for a one-off Final between Spain and Italy. Betfair is all about finding value so watch Brazil carefully, form an opinion and give the Italians serious consideration.

The USA have won four from their last six games but this disguises the fact that they were poor against Honduras and Costa Rica in last week’s World Cup qualifiers and would need to improve dramatically from that form to get past Italy. The Italians never seem to be prolific scorers and I take them to win this 2-0 which is available at 6.8 on Betfair and may also provide a good trading opportunity after a first goal.

Probable scorers is always difficult with the Italians, but Luca Toni at 2.48 would be my only selection provided that he starts and looks interesting to score either the first or the last goal at 4/1 with William Hill. UNDER 2.5 GOALS is available at 1.77 on Betfair with the safer option of UNDER 3.5 at a skinny 1.29.

Confederation Cup Brazil Vs Egypt

Brazil arrive at the Confederation Cup with a compliment of stars to rival Real Madrid and Manchester City!

Brazil arrive at the Confederation Cup with a compliment of stars to rival Real Madrid and Manchester City!

Brazil Vs Egypt live on BBCi at 3pm, Monday 15th June 2009

Brazil recently beat Uraguay in Uraguay for the first time in over 30 years and are on a good unbeaten run, but recent draws against Ecuador and Bolvia show that if Brazil dont need to win then the foot is off the pedal, but they will have too much for Egypt whatever happens here.

Egypt have won 3 from their last six but defeats to Algeria (away) and Malawi (away) and a draw against Bulgaria show that they are a long way from their African Cup of Nations form and 14.0 on Betfair looks like a generous reflection of their chances in this game today even if 6.0 for the draw looks more attractive based on Brazil’s inability to take friendlies and unimportant games too seriously (shhhhh dont tell Sept Blatter we said that about the Confederation Cup).

We think 6.8 about a 2-0 correct score looks about right, Brazil should do the job and not much more in this stage of the competition but we may look to trade this as the game progresses. Again we will be waiting until Brazil announce their team before selecting goalscorers and our selections will appear in the COMMENTS section below when the teams are available. Fabiano, Pato, Kaka and Robinho are all available at greater than evens (in sharp contrast to the odds we had to take on Villa and Torres last night) but the starting line-up remains the unknown.

Under 2.5 may drift as money piles into Brazil nearer to kick off (currently 2.44 on Betfair) and if odds go out to 2.7+ then this will be worth a nibble from a trading viewpoint as will taking the 0-0 and trading out after 10-15 minutes (currently available at 22.0 on Betfair and likely to trade around 15.0 after 10 minutes).

Spanish Grand Prix from Barcelona, Sunday 10th May on BBC1

Ross Brawn and Jenson Button will be plotting another win in the Spanish Grand Prix

Ross Brawn and Jenson Button will be plotting another win in the Spanish Grand Prix

Today is Qualification for the Spanish Grand Prix (Barcelona) with tomorrow’s race and today’s qualification shown live on BBC1. Jenson Button has won 3 of the first four Grand Prix of this season and looks well positioned to improve his points tally tomorrow. The dramatic start to the season has seen McLaren and Ferrari drop down the pecking order in favour of new boys Brawn. Red Bull seem to go from strength to strength, and the exciting Toyota team continue to improve. There is nothing to suggest that the new order of things will be changed after yesterday’s practice sessions. However, new developments introduced in Spain are likely to define the order for much of the rest of the season and these same new developments make us defer our betting choices until after the Qualification session today.

It is notable that in first practice, Barrichello ran with the old car, whilst Button was first in the early practice running a car with a modified front wing, new aerodynamics and alterations to the double-decker diffuser. In the second session Barrichello was fourth with the modifications whilst Button was sixth with further alterations to the front wing. We can be certain that Brawn are on the pace for this race and we can expect a very strong Qualification session.

Red Bull have come closest to challenging Brawn this season and I expect that trend to continue in Barcelona. Red Bull are satisfied with the modifications they have made but still have not introduced the controversial double-decker diffuser and we can expect Red Bull to improve their pace when this modification takes place. The Red Bull team are unsurprisingly “bullish” about their chances and look the best choice to challenge Brawn yet again. It would be nice to see the popular Aussie Mark Webber do well in Barcelona, but Vettel seems to have the edge in races and we expect the aforementioned drivers to occupy the first four places on the grid after qualification. If one of the Red Bull drivers can get on the front row alongside a Brawn car then we could have a very exciting start to the race indeed!

Toyota do not expect to be as competitive as they were in Bahrain, where Jarno Trulli finished third, but are expecting a leap in performance for the next race in Monaco when they say there are more car upgrades to come.

Ferrari expect better things now that racing is back in Europe and Alonso will perform well in the  Spanish GP on his home soil, but it is BMW Sauber and Wiliams-Toyotas that may produce some surprises in both the qualification sessions and the race itself.

We are not placing any significant bets other than the first four for the grid because it will be interesting to see just how close the Red Bulls are to the Brawn cars during qualification and what differences all of the car modifications make  before making any race predictions.

Remember to come back to Racing Diary later today for the betting tips that you need for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Master Minded the Star of Punchestown Festival

mastermindedwinsqueenmother

Well he should win! Master Minded is the star performer in the Kerrygold Champion Chase. There are 5 runners for the race and two previous winners of the Kerrygold Champion Chase are among the remaining quintet, although Newmill (2006) and Mansony (2007) have no chance. In fact if Master Minded performs to his usual standard they all have no chance!

Rated the best chaser in the world this race looks at his mercy. Rated 186 he has 29 pounds in hand over his rivals (on their Irish Marks) and Ruby Walsh should enjoy the ride. Connections will pick up £136k (Euros) for winning. They say Master Minded is an equine  machine, I would say he is a decent cash machine too!

Walsh will be aboard RSA Chase winner Cooldine at 6.40. This should be a little more competitive but not much. Cooldine should win and pick up a cool £61k (Euros) for his trouble.
