The Hitman on Saturday, Free Horseracing Tips, 20 November

Its a huge day of action on Saturday, not least becuase we see the return of the Cheltenham Gold Cup Winner, Imperial Commander in Saturday’s Betfair Chase. Carl The Hitman Harris marks your card with the best bets of the day…..

Free Horseracing Tips

Kauto Star won the Betfair chase last year

Who can forget last year’s Betfair Chase when Kauto Star was lucky to win, but win he did, will Imperial Commander get a race today?

The reality is that Imperial Commander (3:25 Haydock) has 22 pounds in hand over nearest rival Planet of Sound, he should win this in a canter. There is no value in his price, but this is the banker of the day so whatever we back, we can double up with the Gold Cup Winner.

Dunraven Storm (12:40 Haydock) should trot up in the opener at Haydock, again no value but this is one to watch with a view to bigger prizes in the future. He was hammered by Cue Card last time and I would like to see that form well and truely franked, I think that Cue Card is a show in for the Supreme Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham, even at this stage.

Stagecoach Pearl (1:15)
is a decent horse and I have got this one in my notebook as one to follow. A winner of three of his last four starts, this is a tougher test but I think he will be up to it and will win again despite the rise in the weights and at the prices I make this my best bet of the day.

It is interesting that Master Minded (2:05 Ascot) steps up to 2m 3f, having been campaigned over 2 miles. This is not as cut and dry as most commentators would have you believe, there are plenty of question marks against Master Minded, not least the trip and the disappointing run when we last saw him at Cheltenham in March. In Albertas Run he has a worth opponent and it will not be easy. I think he will win, but it will not be easy. It would be good for him to go to Cheltenham in the best of form.

The Ascot Hurdle is a seriously good race. Won last year by Zaynar who is back to defend his crown, but I think in Silviniaco Conti (2:35 Ascot) he has a serious opponent who potentially could all the way to the top. I think that Paul Nicholls gelding will mainatin his unbeaten record. A very good race indeed here.

Have a great day, good luck.

Becher gamble on Imoncloudnine gathers momentum

The gamble behind Imoncloudnine for Sunday’s totesport.com Becher Chase gathered a little more momemtum this afternoon as the sponsors were forced to cut Neil Mulholland’s gelding for the second consecutive day.

Free Horseracing Tips

Imperial Commander- Gold Cup Winner

With the stable in red-hot form, totesport have cut the seven-year-old to 12/1 (from 14/1) after initially going 20/1 when betting opened on the race.

‘Neil Mulholland is having a fantastic month and punters clearly think that it can continue as Imoncloudnine is the only horse punters want to be with in the Becher Chase,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Denman heads the weights as 34 were left in the Hennessy Gold Cup at the latest forfeit stage and the dual-winner is the 4/1 favourite with totesport. There has been further support for Weird Al and Ian Williams’ gelding is now 5/1 (from 11/2).

Over at Limerick, Quel Esprit made an impressive start to his chasing career over a trip short of his best and has been cut to 12/1 (from 16/1) for the RSA Chase by totesport.

Saturdays Horseracing Tips, 20 February

Free Horseracing Tips

By Carl Harris

Saturday could be a great day then again it could be a disaster! There are four scheduled jumps meetings, all of which will have inspections in the morning.

Lingfield is the only card guranteed to go ahead, so it will be fingers crossed, certainlt at Haydock, Wincanton and Ascot.

Saturdays Going;

  • Ascot - Soft-Good to Soft in places (Prec Inspection 6.30am).
  • Haydock - Chase: Heavy; Hurdle: Soft-Heavy in plcs (Prec Inspection 9.00am).
  • Lingfield - Standard
  • Uttoxeter - Heavy (Inspection 8.00am).
  • Wincanton - Heavy (Inspection 8am).

I am going to assume that all is fine tomorrow and here are my Free Horseracing Tips for Saturday.

1:55 Haydock, Me Voici- Win. This is a really interesting race with the Triumph Hurdle only three weeks away. Me Voici was a really impressive winner at Chepstow last time when beating Sang Bleu by 10 lengths. I think that form is well ahead of anything else here and as such he can win here and put himself in the Triumph Hurdle picture.

3:00 Haydock, Adams Island- Win. I think this is a decent type who can land a three timer with Tony McCoy onboard. His win last time at Newbury was very impressive, winning going away, to get the better of a well regarded Paul Nicholls horse. The price may not be great however, but I really like this one and will have a decent bet.

3:15 Ascot, Planet Of Sound- Win. This was won by Voy Por Ustedes last year and though there are no big names on show this time round I think it will be a good race. It revolves around Planet Of Sound and Alberta Run. When the two met last time it was Albertas Run who came out on top but with six pounds better terms and two below par runs from Albertas Run I am siding with Planet of Sound, although it will be a close one in my view. Planet of Sound is the fresh horse and at the weights is my bet here.

Albertas Run lines up at Ascot

Betfair Chase – Ascot 3.15pm(William Hill bet): 2-1 Planet of Sound, 3-1 Herecomesthetruth, 9-2 Albertas Run, 13-2 Oh Crick, 7-1 Monet’s Garden, 16-1 The Sawyer (EW 1/4 1,2)

3:35 Haydock, Dream Alliance- Win and Place. This is the Blue Square Handicap Chase which is highly competitive, to say the least. Last time out he won the Coral Welsh National, with Silver By Nature and Le Beau Bai behind.  Although he has been raised nine pounds by the handicapper I am prepared to back him to defy that and win again. testing conditions are right up his street, a win and place bet is recommended.

Albertas Run lines up at Ascot

Albertas Run, who went on to finish sixth behind Kauto Star in the King George, is a 9/2 chance. Second favourite at 11/4 is Paul Nicholls’ Herecomesthetruth who has been on the sidelines since unseating Christian Williams in the Peterborough Chase in November.

Veteran Monet’s Garden is 7/1 to roll back the years with Oh Crick (8/1) and The Sawyer (12/1) completing the field.

Nicholls On Kauto Star…

Gold Cup Winner Kauto Star

Gold Cup Winner Kauto Star

Kauto Star is being laid to lose at Haydock on Saturday. Backers can get a great price, but layers are assuming that Kauto Star will not handle the groun. They also point to Master Minded getting beaten last week at Cheltenham.

Racing Diary has said that at 5/4 Kauto Star is the bet of the season.
Here is what Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls has to say ahead of Saturday’s Betfair Chase at Haydock.

“People talk about this race last year but there really is no comparison as I shouldn’t have run him that day, having already been to Down Royal. This year he is fresh and ready to go. We’re very happy with him and he isn’t like Master Minded, who needed the run at Cheltenham last week.

“I suppose you never know how much they will need the run until they actually go, but we are very pleased with where he is at the moment.”

Although much of the country has been hit by torrential rain, Haydock appears to have escaped the worst of it, with just two millimetres of overnight rain on Thursday. Kauto Star has won on soft ground on five occasions since joining the champion trainer, who warned it would be folly to write him off on Merseyside.

Nicholls added: “They’ve only had the two millimetres of rain overnight and obviously it’s going to be soft ground. But I don’t think it will be too different to how it was when he won at Down Royal last season.”

Kauto Star Heads For Haydock

Dual Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Kauto Star will face eight rivals on his reappearance in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday.

Paul Nicholls’ nine-year-old won the Grade One prize in 2006 and 2007 but unseated Sam Thomas at the final fence in last season’s renewal.
Irish raider Notre Pere needs to bounce back having fallen on his return to action at Down Royal, while Imperial Commander and Madison Du Berlais are the main threats to Kauto Star from the home team.

Nicholls has a second string to his bow in Nozic, while Halcon Genelardais, Rambling Minster, Seymour Weld and The Sawyer complete the line-up. Albertas Run, Barbers Shop, Nacarat and Tidal Bay are the four absentees from the confirmation stage.

Kauto Star heads to Cheltenham for a third Gold Cup. What a festival it was in 2009 where Kauto Star won the Gold Cup….

Kauto Star 10/11 for Betfair Chase Return on Saturday.

Conditions look like being testing at Haydock on Saturday when Kauto Star makes his fourth successive appearance in the Betfair Chase. Kauto Star took this prize in 2006 and 2007, but unseated Sam Thomas at the final fence when going for the hat-trick 12 months ago. He is among 13 to stand their ground at the five-day stage and trainer Paul Nicholls has confirmed the dual Cheltenham Gold Cup hero a definite runner.

Kauto Star returns at Haydock

Kauto Star returns at Haydock

Kauto Star is going to go there, I just stuck the other horse (Nozic) in just in case the race cut up to four or five runners. I’d say it was more likely he would run in the Becher Chase (at Aintree on Sunday),” said Paul Nicholls.

Stan James make dual Gold Cup winner Kauto Star their 10/11 favourite for Saturday’s Grade 1 Betfair Chase at Haydock Park.

Head of PR Charlie McCann:”One of owner Clive Smith’s Champions has already met with defeat this term and, despite being a dual winner of the Betfair Chase, Kauto Star has made uncharacteristic mistakes on his last couple of visits to the Lancashire track. Jim Dreaper appears to be leaning more towards the Haydock race rather than the Hennessy at Newbury on Saturday week with Notre Pere who we make a 7/2 shot to gain the scalp of the great Kauto Star.”

Here is Charlie McCann’s Preview of the Betfair Chase;

Betfair Chase: Antepost odds from Stan James (1/5 odds 1,2,3):

Kauto Star 10/11
