Saturday’s Horseracing Tips on Bet365 Gold Cup Day

Kalahari King bids to Follow up his Aintree Win

Kalahari King bids to Follow up his Aintree Win

The 2008/2009 jumps season is all over bar the shouting. Paul Nicholls will be champion trainer again and Tony McCoy will be crowned Champion Jockey, for the 14th time in succession. But there is the small matter of the Bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase (3.10), which is the aforementioned shouting! Sandown stages a simply stunning day of racing, with top class flat and jumps racing. We are printing Our Premier Service Bets for you Free Today.

I think that Lacdoudal has a big chance of winning the race he won in 2006 for Philip Hobbs and can be backed at 10 in the Win Market on Betfair. Hoo La Baloo who has been in consistent but not sparkling form for Paul Nicholls is favourite. I think that Lacdoudal, who loves Sandown is a much better bet and will certainly oppose Hoo La Baloo. Tony McCoy is riding Hennessy off 10st 7lbs and could very well be the plunge horse of the day as the McCoy factor takes hold. For me Lacdoudal is running off a very fair mark, 12 pounds lower than his 2006 winning mark of 151. He is my idea of a solid each way bet. Check Out the special offers, including £200 of Free Bets offered by Bet365. The race is Live on Channel 4.

Sandown stage a fantastic mixed card, there are not enough of them in my opinion in the UK.  Kalahari King (2.35) will love the faster ground and should be suited by the track. Ferdy Murphy’s Arkle runner-up won by 8 lengths at Aintree last time out and Kalahari King looks a good thing to finish a great season with another commanding performance. The ground will see Kalahari King at his best and I expect him to win and to win in style. My bet of the Day is Kalahari King – Double Maximum Stakes (2.35 Sandown).

My P and L this week is in profit, primarily because of the lays, another of which was successful yesterday after being heavily supported. The one I would lay today is definitely Twist Magic (2.35) , against Kalahari King. Twist Magic has looked a shadow of his former self this season and although the better ground will suit him, it would take an enormous leap of faith to see him winning at Sandown. At 4.2 to Lay this is one well worth taking on. You need a Betfair account to Lay Horses to Lose.

The Sandown Card just gets better and better. On the flat there is a Group 2 and a Group 3 race, both full of quality. I really like the 3.45 race in which Paco Boy and Virtual make their season reappearances. Paco Boy is top class. A Group One Winner in France before not handling the surface at Nad Al Sheba he is reported to be in great form. He is the best horse in the race and Richard Hannon writing on his website says he is not contemplating defeat and Paco Boy is flying at home.

Richard Hannon

This is what Hannon has to say on his web-site

Hannon said:”After the Dubai trip, our original plan was to wait for the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 16, but this is a good prize in its own right, and with three weeks between the two races the timing is perfect.

“Paco Boy worked really well at home last Sunday and then again on Tuesday, and, though he was tired for a few days when we got back from Dubai, he is in great form again now. “The race at Sandown definitely looks within Paco Boy’s compass, and it would be very nice to put that Nad Al Sheba experience behind us and go to Newbury on a high rather than head for another Group 1 on a retrieving mission.”

Paco Boy will only run if the ground is suitable on Saturday.

Hannon, commenting on the Dubai trip said:”There were far too many minuses – no preperation race, the ground that was too firm, an outside draw and a distance which was always going to stretch Paco Boy. It might have been an all-expenses paid trip, but the entry fee was £53,000 and the prize money only went down to sixth, so, all in all, it was a very expensive lesson to learn.”

Paco Boy is a big bet for me and should show his class. Backing a Group 1 winner in a Group 2 has been a successful formula for me and Paco Boy should continue that trend.

I am hoping for a big day on Saturday and I hope that Kalahri King and Paco Boy are both winners at Sandown.

Summary For Saturday:

Sandown:
2.35 Kalahri King – Win
3.10 Lacdoudal- Each-Way Win, Twist Magic-Lay
3.45 Paco Boy – Win

Bet365 Gold Cup – Sandown 3:10

It’s always re-assuring when you rate a race, analyse the trends and have a Tony McCoy runner top-rated and that is the case with Hennessy. Carl Llewellyn knows what it take to win a long distance chase and McCoy will give this every assistance from the saddle as he did when 2nd in the Scottish National last weekend. At this stage HENNESSY rates excellent each-way value at 14/1 with Hills based on the trends analysis.

However, he is joint top-rated with OSCAR PARK who looks seriously unexposed and fits almost all the stats as a result. Showed some promise at times last season and very lightly races this season so will be fresher than most and with Timmy Murphy in the plate he should get every assistance from the saddle.

Third best is New Little Bric who loves it round Sandown and almost fits the ideal stats-profile. He could be worth a small cover bet on the other two main bets.

HENNESSY 5pts each way 14/1 (William Hill)

OSCAR PARK 5pts each way 16/1 (Generally available)

NEW LITTLE BRIC 1pt each way 16/1 (Generally available)

Analysis of runners for Bet365 Gold Cup

Trend analysis of Bet365 Gold Cup

Bet365 10-year trends –:

  1. 8 of the last 10 winners were first or 2nd season chasers
  2. 9 of the last 10 winners had run between 4 and 17 times over fences
  3. No winner had scored more than a total of 2 handicap career wins
  4. 7 of the last 10 winners were between 7 and 9 years of age
  5. The ideal weight band is between 10-08 and 11-0 which has provided 4 wins and 10 places (an extra point for those rated between 129 and 142 which has provided 7 of the last 10 winners
  6. Only one favourite has won in the last 10 years
  7. A horse must have won on good or good to firm as 9 of the last 10 winners had done.
  8. 9 of the last 10 placed in the top 3 on one of their last 3 starts
  9. 4 winners finished 2nd last time out but 4 winners were unplaced or failed to complete last time

Bet365 Mile – Sandown 3:45

The trends are marginally pointing to Paco Boy with Virtual a very close 2nd. However, I don’t back odds-on and there is one more stat that I have not mentioned which is that “50 horses have lined up that were beaten by 6 lengths or further and only 3 of those have won”. Paco Boy was beaten almost 10 lengths last time out.

I think the value call is to go with the likely 2nd favourite VIRTUAL. John Gosden is in superb form at the moment, his horses are running very well fresh and at 3/1 or 7/2 he is a value proposition.

VIRTUAL – 5pts win

Trend analyss of Bet365 MileNever mind the last 10 years trends, I’m taking in 13 as it’s my lucky number ;-)

Bet365 Mile 13-year trends:-

Every winner raced at either Doncaster or Newmarket last time out had previously contested the Earl Of Sefton Stakes

  1. 10 winners were in the first 3 in the betting
  2. 4 and 5yo’s have won 10 of the last 13
  3. Michael Stoute and Richard Hannon have won 5 of the last 6 renewals
  4. 12 of the last 13 winners had at least won a Listed contest
  5. Only 1 winner had won it’s previous star
  6. 11 winners raced in GP3 company on their previous start
  7. The last 10 winners had an official rating of at least 109
  8. 11 winners raced placed 1st or 2nd on one of their last 3 starts

Bet365 Gordon Richard Stakes – Sandown 4:15

Not ‘that’ strong a trends race and they do not help in narrowing down the field much, but they seem to suggest it rests between Tartan Bearer, Halicarnassus, Pipedreamer and Buccellati. Given the overall poor record of favourites in this race, and the fact that Michael Stoute’s runners are needing their first run, it may be best to oppose Tartan Bearer. However, it makes little sense to back the short-priced Pipedreamer for the win and Halicarnassus may be outside the ideal price bracket of less than 8/1. So the best option may be to back the in-form Andrew Balding’s BUCCELLATI each-way who is likely to be around the 6/1 or 7/1 range. From a trends viewpoint though it’s probably one to leave alone.

BUCCELLATI – 1pt each-way

Bet365 Gold Cup Preview, Sandown, Saturday

The Bet 365 Gold Cup is run at Sandown on Saturday

The Bet 365 Gold Cup is run at Sandown on Saturday

The 2008/2009 jumps season is all over bar the shouting. Paul Nicholls will be champion trainer again and Tony McCoy will be crowned Champion Jockey, for the 14th time in succession. But there is the small matter of the Bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase, which is the shouting!

I have already said that Lacdoudal has a big chance of winning the Bet365 Gold Cup he won in 2006 for Philip Hobbs and is a 6/1 chance to do so. Lacdoudal is not favourite, that accolade goes to Hoo La Baloo who has been in consistent but not sparkling form. I think that Lacdoudal loves Sandown and is a better bet, I would certainly be laying Hoo La Baloo at 5-1.

But what of the other runners in The Bet 365 Gold Cup ?

Oodachee is the only other runner in single figures. Trained in Ireland by Charlie Swann this one comes to the Bet365 Gold Cup following a good run in the Topham Chase at Aintree, finishing a close second. Oodachee has a big chance and I consider this the biggest threat to the favourite.

Of the rest Zacharova and Briery Fox are the only two in the field to have won their last starts.  Zacarova is the one to look at in detail. Hailing from the Grand National Winning yard of Venitia Williams Zacharova won a Chase named after the Grand National Winner Mon Mome at Cheltenham last time. It would be no surprise to see Venitia Williams land the Bet365 Gold Cup and crown what has been a great season for her.

Zacarova is 10-1 and I will be backing this one each way. At the bottom of the weights, carrying only 10 stone from a stable in form, Zacharova can not be ignored. Not to be confused with Zarkava who won the Arc de Triomphe!

There are fifteen runners, which means that it is each way the first three, not four. I am sure that Bet365 will offer first four each way, after all it is called the Bet365 Gold Cup and it is worth checking with the Sponsors. One thing Bet365 will do is give you a Free Bet to open your account and also if you back the winner of the Bet365 Gold Cup they will give you a Free bet to the same value.

Hennessy will be partnered by Champion Jockey Tony McCoy, who is riding at his minimum weight and is not out of it at 11-1. The trainer has not had the best of season’s but you can never write off McCoy.It would be fitting for McCoy to win the Bet365 Gold Cup on the day he will be crowned Champion.

New Little Bric has the habit of popping up to spring a surprise as was shown 2 runs ago when winning the Gold Cup at Newbury. Could he do it again in the Bet365 Gold Cup?

You can win with Bet365 and land an amazing £200 of Free Bets!

Lacdoudal can Land Bet365 Gold Cup on Mixed Saturday Card.

Lacdoudal goes for the Bet365 Chase that he won in 2006

Lacdoudal goes for the Bet365 Chase that he won in 2006

There are precious too few mixed cards in this country, in my opinion. It is a common occurrence in Ireland and is very popular with punters, The Sandown Bet365 Gold Cup meeting is a wonderful race day with some very good flat and jumps races.

It is of course the final day of the Jumps season and the final betting handicap of a long season is the Bet365 Gold Cup. Philip Hobb’s Lacdoudal won the race in 2006 and bids to win it again as a ten year old. He won off a mark of 151 on Good to Firm ground, which he will encounter on Saturday and will run off a twelve pounds lower mark this time round.

Of course he is now ten, but showed he was in fine form when third behind Can’t Buy Time again Sandown.  I think the Grey can land this race and is quoted as best price 7-1 with sponsors Bet365.

Bet365 will no doubt be offering some special terms on the race and you can take full advantage with the added bonus of £200 of Free Bets from Bet365.
