Tony McCoy is BBC Sports Personality Of 2010

Tony McCoy has reflected on his “unbelievable” victory in the race to be crowned the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The 36-year-old became the first jockey to claim the title after securing 293,152 votes, 41% of the overall total of 698,242, on Sunday evening.

McCoy finished ahead of darts star Phil Taylor and heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis to be awarded the famous trophy at the climax of the annual review of the sporting year, which took place at Birmingham’s LG Arena.

Sports Personality: McCoy Bashes Bookies Once Again And Haye Is Favourite For Next Year

AP McCoy has done it again and bashed the bookies for a six figure sum. The biggest bet Hills took on McCoy was for £7000 when he was priced at Even money. By scooping the BBC Sports Personality, McCoy has managed to end the recent curse of the favourite and was priced at 1/4 when he eventually picked up the award at 9 o’clock on Sunday.

“McCoy has made a habit of costing us money over the years, however, we are more than happy to let him off this once as the award was fully deserved. A sustained gamble since he won the Grand National back in April meant that he was the biggest loser in the book this year and once again he delivered for the punters. Congratulations Tony!” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

David Haye is Hill’s 5/1 favourite for the 2011 BBC Sports Personality of the Year while Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton are both priced at 6/1. With the Rugby Union World Cup taking place in New Zealand, Chris Ashton is priced at 33/1 and Lewis Moody is 40/1. Should England secure the Ashes down under Andrew Strauss and Graeme Swann can be backed at 33/1 with Hills.

“There is no major football tournament in the summer of 2011, no Olympics, so it may be time for someone else to step up to the plate. Haye will be fighting one or both of the Klitschko brothers next year and should he end the year with all the World Heavyweight titles he will surely be a shoo-in for the title,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Mccoy- amazing

3:10 Lingfield Super Sleuth can finally exorcise an incredulous winless hex in the EBF Normandie Stud Fleur De Lys Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield. It is almost unthinkable that Brian Meehan’s filly has yet to get her nose in front after 10 tries. But that is the glum reality ahead of her outing in this Listed race, which has attracted a rather humdrum gathering given the prize-money on offer. Super Sleuth’s engagement in this one-mile affair therefore looks a logical piece of placing on behalf of the Meehan camp. That said, the daughter of Selkirk still arrives in Surrey with plenty to prove. She has not really kicked on from her salad days, in which the filly finished a narrow second in the Fred Darling and third in the 1000 Guineas. There is, however, a degree of optimism that the old fires still burn brightly, even though more was probably expected of her at Leicester last time out. Super Sleuth was undoubtedly unsuited by the stop-start gallop on her return from a 118-day absence, finishing two lengths behind the smart Long Lashes. There is fulsome pace running throughout this race, though, so that should not be an issue. Meehan’s charge was well supported at Leicester so any significant market move should be seized upon, with her ability to act on the Fibresand an obvious likelihood given her rich American pedigree.

Latest Tony McCoy betting….
Stan James left AP McCoy at 11/8 for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year after his extraordinary victory aboard Drum Sergeant at Haydock.

Head of PR Charlie McCann: “AP must get plenty of coverage hopefully on news channels as well as sports channels in the next few days given his mount Drill Sergeant pulled himself up and refused to go out on the final circuit until the rest of the field went past. It was an incredible ride, even by his unique standards, and one which may, hopefully, tip the balance his way in December. He remains our 11/8 favourite for the prestigious award.”

The jockey is the 7/4 favourite at William Hill with Jessica Ennis the 9/2 second favourite and Lewis Hamilton just behind her at 5/1. Tony McCoy won his first ever Grand National this year after 14 years of trying, although Ennis is the new poster girl of British athletics and Hamilton is leading the way in this year’s drivers championship.

“Usually by September, we have an odds-on favourite for the Sports Personality. McCoy is very popular amongst the racing fraternity, but the fact that he is perhaps not so well known outside of this, means that this is one of the most open contests in recent years,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Tony McCoy has won the Champion Hurdle, the Grand National and has been riding out of his skin this year, he is a living Legend of sport and deserves recognition, Tony McCoy deserves it more than any other sportsman this year.

Bookie Buster Button 12/1 to Defend World Title

Jenson Button is World Champion, as predicted months ago by Racing Diary, but can he come back and defend his World Title in 2010?

Button - World Champion

William Hill rate Jenson Button at 12/1 to defend his title next year, for which Lewis Hamilton is the favourite at 2/1. Hills now rate Jenson Button as their 1/2 odds on favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality.

“Punters got wind of Brawn’s pace before we did and this has been a terrible result for the bookies. The early prices suggest that we could see alot more of Lewis next year,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams
