Wednesdays Horseracing Tips, 3 March

Free Horseracing Tips

By Carl Harris

The two weeks before Cheltenham usually offers up some pretty moderate racing. Certainly this week ha sprovided little by way of quality jumps racing.

Wednesday is more of the same I am afraid, although we can take a good luck at a Champion Hurdle contender, tonight at Kempton, of all places.

Not a great deal of interest on Wednesday but here are todays Free Horseracing Tips;

3:50 Bangor, Ultimate Limit- Win. Alan Flemming is a trainer I have plenty of time for. He has a few good horses in his yard, the best of which we will see tonight. Ultimate Limit looked all over the winner at Huntingdon before getting caught close home. The handicapper has put him up four pounds for that but I think he can defy that, in this race on better ground. My main bet of the day, and only serious bet.

One eye on Cheltenham…

Starluck Champion Hurdle

So to Kempton, where we will get the chance to see Starluck have a pipe opener on the flat over a mile. I am not a backer, I would imagine he will not be given a hard race and that the he will want much further. I would be interested to see how he gets on, without having an interest. He ran Go Native very close on Boxing day and rates as a live Champion Hurdle contender.

I am very excited to announce that we will be able to incorporate live odds comparison for all the races that we put up on Racing Diary, on the day of the races. You can then click and place a bet at the best price!

Friday has already lost Ayr and Kempton and Bangor will hopefully be OK. Southwell and Wolverhampton will go ahead on the all-weather although I will be giving that a miss, they are seriously poor cards in my view there.  All systems go at Newbury on Saturday, one hopes, so at least. Here are your free horseracing tips for Friday.

McCoy rides for Nicky Henderson

3:20 Bangor, Be There In Five- Win. A good winner on his debut for Nicky Henderson, winning by nine lengths, in testing ground he should have no problem in following up. Andy Tinkler is down to take the ride but he took a heavy fall at Huntingdon on Thursday, so there may be a jockey change. I don’t think it matters who rides this one, a great bet, the best bet of the day.

2:35 Kempton, Qunatativeeasing- Win. A multiple winner this Nicky Henderson inmate confirmed his promise with an easy win last time out at Newbury. This is a great race against The Betchworth Kid who is also an improving type but I think Quantativeeasing has more scope and can take a further step up the ladder with a good win here, under Tony McCoy in the JP McManus colours.

A bumper eight race card at Newbury and seven at Bangor make it a busy day of jumps racing. There are a host of bets to be had today and I plan on having a good day, having been in good form of late.

There are two all-weather meetings today but I have decided that I am focusing on the jumps, a strategy that is paying off, so far at least. The weekend’s card at Ascot could be the best of the season so far, certainly Big Buck’s and Diamond Harry could serve up a good race, I hope they clash on Saturday.

Today I plan a few bets and will combine them in a multiple with four selections. The bets for Wednesday are;

13:45 Bangor, Alverstone- Win. From a decent yard Alverstone had plenty of class on the flat winning two bumpers and finishing third in a listed bumper at Cheltenham last time. Now the mare goes over hurdles for the first time and meets a couple of fellow winners but I think Alverstone is a mare full of class and can score at the first time of asking.

12:20 Newbury, Veiled- Win. Last time out Veiled bolted up a couple of weeks ago at Leicester, very impressively, so much so that she was awarded quotes of 20/1 for the Triumph Hurdle. She looked very impressive and I think she will go in again but this is a tougher test. If she is to compete at Cheltenham then she should win this one and is certainly worth backing here, having seen her effortless win last time out.

Henerson to land Newbury double

Henerson to land Newbury double

13:25 Newbury, Oscar Whisky- Win. Nick Henderson has more power in his stable than Chris Evans has in his garage. Oscar Whisky is another exciting hurdles recruit who arrives here having won two bumpers in great style. He will no doubt be well backed but has winner written all over it! Henderson is consistently winning with one in three runners this season, stats you cannot ignore.

15:10 Newbury, Candy Creek- Win. Another from the Henderson yard who was a decent bumper horse and made a pleasing start over hurdles at Kempton. The mare looks full of class who looks Cheltenham bound, even at this stage and is fully expected to win again and make it  four wins from five starts in her career. This is my best bet of the day.

My advice is to have a muti-bet and combine the doubles and trebles. I am sure we will be in profit as a result!

Its remembrance day and we should take a moment to pay thanks to all our brave servicemen past and present who have given up so much for us. In Afghanistan our boys are dying and we should not forget them. Have a look at Sky News to see all the young lives lost in that conflict.

So Wednesday, we have two jumps cards and all-weather racing this afternoon at Southwell and tonight at Kempton. I am going to focus on the jumps once again with bets at Bangor and Warwick. The weather is feeling more winter like, after a mild spell, it’s the proper jumps season now, in the cold.

13:40 Bangor- Free World, Win

Free World (13:40) has much to live up to carrying the colours of Kauto Star and Master Minded. He is not that class, but nonetheless is a decent chaser who makes his seasonal reappearance at Warwick in a small but very competitive field. Much has been said that he is a nearly horse but the stats show a 25 percent strike rate, with two wins from eight runs and he has been in the first three in six of those runs.  If he carried different colours I think he would have much less criticism to contend with. Ruby Walsh is aboard, the best horse in my view, and should get the better of Doctor David and the enigmatic Moon Over Miami.

13:50 Warwick- Topsham Belle, Win

Nicky Henderson has a stable full of promising young horses having won so many bumpers last year. Topsham Belle, (13:50) is one such prospect who has run once, bolting up on her debut at Huntingdon. The stable has a great record with first time out hurdlers, indeed this stable is the hurdle stable boasting the current Triumph and Champion Hurdle crowns. I expect Topsham Belle to confirm the promise of her run in April with a win here.

Tuesday’s Horseracing Tips, 21st July

It is a real struggle today, not the best day for punting and if you were going to take a day away from racing this week, Tuesday would be the ideal candidate.

Ffos Las stages it’s first flat meeting today, which will be interesting. Of course we know noting about any draw or track biases and I prefer to wait and see how things go before punting at the new venue.

Well handicapped jumper for us today....

5.15 Yarmouth – Silver Prelude, Win

Silver Prelude (5.15) was a good winner last week over course and distance and teams up again with Kevin Shea in a bid for a double. The six pounds penalty shouldn’t inconvenience the eight year-old whose seven career wins have all come over the minimum trip. On a difficult day Silver Prelude represents one of the better bets of the day and my only flat wager of the day.

6.30 Bangor- Arctic Shadow, Win

Arctic Shadow (6.30) is looking to land a quick hat-trick within the space of a few days. Richard Johnson has won twice for the stable aboard the seven year old who is looking to maintain his 100 percent record for his new trainer. The quick reappearance indicates that Tim Vaughan must think he has a very well handicapped horse on his hands and as we saw with Little Shilling he knows how to maximise opportunities when he has. It would be a surprise were this one not to win today.
