Villa need a new boss

Gerard Houllier has also had his odds slashed from 12/1 on Monday to 9/2. Long-time favourite and current caretaker, Kevin MacDonald is the 2/1 second favourite, having been odds-on to take the job yesterday. Sven Goran Eriksson is the 7/1 fourth favourite.

“Having been seen as a relative outsider at the start of the week, Alan Curbishsley now finds himself at the top of a shortlist that the odds suggest includes just Gerard Houllier and Kevin MacDonald. The gamble we have seen over the last 24 hours seems to suggest that an announcement is imminent,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Next Aston Villa Manager: 7/4 Alan Curbishley; 2/1 Kevin MacDonald; 9/2 Gerard Houllier; 7/1 Sven Goran Eriksson; 11/1 David Moyes; 14/1 Ronald Koeman; 16/1 Alex McLeish; 20/1 BAR

Villa Could Be a Lay, Away.

Aston Villa caretaker-manager Kevin MacDonald has been forced into a number of changes for Thursday’s Europa League play-off first leg with Rapid Vienna at the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium.

Aston Villa are a short price and it could prove to Lay Villa given the problems they are likely to face in terms of selection, Bets odds….

Centre-back Richard Dunne serves a one-game ban, whilst striker John Carew has a knee injury and joins Gabriel Agbonlahor and Carlos Cuellar (both hamstring) and James Collins (calf) on the sidelines.

However, MacDonald has opted to leave behind Stiliyan Petrov, Luke Young and Ashley Young, whilst there is no James Milner following his move to Manchester City.

It means a number of youngsters have been drafted in, including defenders James Collins Jnr and Eric Lichaj, midfielders Shane Lowry and Barry Bannan and Austrian striker Andreas Weimann.

Sven Will They Learn? Erikkson odds-On For Villa

SVEN Goran Eriksson surged to the top of the bookies’ list of Aston Villa managerial candidates – after rumours that he was spotted at Birmingham Airport yesterday! Betting was suspended by some bookmakers on the former England chief succeeding Martin O’Neill.

Sven Goran Eriksson is so desperate for the Aston Villa job he is willing to lower his traditionally exorbitant salary demands. As a result ha has been backed down to odds-on favourite to become the next Aston Villa boss with William Hill who have slashed his odds from 7/2 to 8/11 after taking a string of bets from punters wishing to bet up to £700 a time on the Swede to be appointed to yet another high profile job.

‘Although it isn’t quite clear just which piece of managerial magic achieved by Sven might encourage Villa to believe he can take them on from the Martin O’Neill era he has been backed as though he’s on the verge of signing a contract’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.’Maybe it is his sensational achievements for the Ivory Coast, Mexico and Notts County which might make him irresistible to Villa, who knows, but when punters are willing to bet hundreds at odds on we can’t afford to take chances.’

NEXT VILLA BOSS…..8/11 Sven; 11/4 Bradley; 7 Jol; 8 Klinsmann; Kambert; 10 Curbishley; Southgate.

Bob Bradley Now 11/4 For Villa Job

BOB – A JOB?

Bob Bradley has confirmed he would be keen to coach in Europe after he was installed as the favourite to become Aston Villa‘s new manager. Martin O’Neil stepped down as Villa boss on Monday amid reports the club’s transfer policy was behind the Ulsterman’s decision.

Picture

BOB BRADLEY is 11/4 favourite to become the next Aston Villa manager with William Hill who also offer 6/1 Bilic; Curbishley; Erikkson; 7/1 Jol; Southgate; 8/1 McLaren.

‘Bradley has no club experience in the English game but did well with USA, while Bilic and Erikkson seem to crop up on every list of potential managers for every high profile job which comes along – which could be more a tribute to their agents and pr people than their managerial abilities.’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe, ‘It seems that the O’Neill walk-out genuinely took the club by surprise so they are unlikely to be able to replace him immediately so this market is likely to change dramatically over the next few days’.

IS IT A GIVEN THAT SHAY WILL START FOR CITY?

WITH neither Shay Given nor Joe Hart happy to be regarded as the number two keeper at Man City, William Hill make Given 1/2 favourite to start in their opening match of the seaon, with Hart 6/4 to get the nod. Hills offer 8/11 that BOTH Given and Hart will still be City players at the close of the January transfer window, EVENS that one or both will have left by then.

Martin O’Neil Quits as Aston Villa Manager

Martin O’Neill has resigned as Aston Villa manager with immediate effect.

Kevin MacDonald, reserve team manager, has assumed the role of caretaker manager and will prepare the team for the opening Premier League game of the season against West Ham on Saturday at Villa Park.

O'Neil quits Villa

Martin O’Neill said: “I have enjoyed my time at Aston Villa immensely. It’s obviously a wrench to be leaving such a magnificent club. I would like to pay tribute to the Villa players, my coaching staff and the Villa supporters for all the support and encouragement they have given both the club and me personally during my time as manager. I wish them all the best for the future. I will obviously be assisting the club in the immediate short-term with regard to the handover of my duties.”

Moments before the news we got this from William Hill;

WILLIAM HILL were forced to slash their odds about Martin O’Neill being the first Premier League manager of the season to leave his job from 8/1 to 8/11 after a flurry of bets on the Villa boss.

‘We have taken a string of three figure bets on the Villa boss to be the first Premier League boss to go this season – the majority of them from clients based in the Leicester area- and have now suspended the market pending any possible announcment from the club. However, we did see a very similar gamble on O’Neill to go towards the end of last season – and nothing came of it then’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Stat for you; Martin O’Neill’s win % with Aston Villa in the Premier League, 1% lower than John Gregory’s.

Carling Cup Final Preview, Sunday 28 Feb

Aston Villa v Manchester United, Sunday. 3pm Live on BBC 1

Manchester United won the Carling Cup in 2009 and now only Aston Villa stands in the way of another Wembley win for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men. Aston Villa were the first ever winners of the League Cup, in 1961, and return for the 50th final. And both teams are making their eighth League Cup final appearances – only Liverpool, with 10, have made more.

Manchester United have won the trophy three times, including last season’s success, thanks to a penalty shoot-out success over Tottenham following a goalless 120 minutes at Wembley.

Manchester United are 4/5 odds on favourites to win the Carling Cup, with Villa the outsiders at 7/2 and the draw a 5/2 option.

Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill expects Manchester United to field a full-strength team in Sunday’s Carling Cup final. O’Neill doesn’t believe United will field the kids this time round. If so then United would be a strong bet to win.

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he is facing a Carling Cup goalkeeping conundrum, with Edwin van der Sar, Thomas Kuszczak and Ben Foster all vying for a place in his starting line-up for Sunday’s Wembley showpiece.

Wayne Rooney to score first must be a strong bet with him banging them in for fun at the moment. Wayne Rooney to Score first with William Hill is also recommended.

Football betting Tips

Rooneyto score first?

I also think there will be more than 2.5 goals on the game, therefore suggest backing over 2.5 goals;

Correct Score:
Suggest it may be 2-1 to Manchester United, but as this type of bet is guessing, small stakes advised.

Wednesdays Football Betting Tips

Another big night of football with League and Cup Football live on BBC 1 and Sky. What a great game last night, I don’t think Villa and Blackburn will serve up a similar game, but I may be wrong. Below are tonight’s games and possible bets.

free football betting tips

Villa are in good form

Carling Cup
7:45 Villa v Blackburn – BBC 1.

I would suggest that this is Villa all the way. When the teams last met at Villa Park it was 3-1 to Villa, who should win again and book their final place. No value but I would suggest over 2.5 goals is a good bet too!

Arsenal v Bolton

Arsenal all the way, it could be a goal fest too, so over 2.5 goals is a very good bet here.

Liverpool v Tottenham Live on Sky Sports 1

I think this could go either way and in their current form laying Liverpool could be a wise idea. That is my bet.

Football Betting Preview from Stan James:

Blackburn v Aston Villa Betting Tips

Thursday, not usually a busy day for Live Football betting, but tonight we have a Carling Cup Semi-Final as Blackburn take on Aston Villa in the first leg of the Carling Cup.
The odds are interesting;
Blackburn (2) Draw (12/5) Aston Villa (16/11) Live on Sky Sports 1

Bet Live- Latest Odds;

In my view there is no need to look past Aston Villa. They are a great bet and at those prices I will be heavily backing Martin O’Neil s men. Last time the sides met it was 3-1 to Villa at Villa Park. I think laying Blackburn is the best bet of the night, at worst a draw at best a Villa win is how I see this panning out. But at the odds Villa are a great bet.

Here is Martin O’Neil speaking ahead of the game

Carling Cup Semi-Final Betting

Its the Carling Cup Semi-Finals this week, the first legs at least. Below are the fixtures for the Carling Cup Semi-Finals

  • Tuesday 5th January
    Blackburn Rovers v Aston Villa (20:00)
  • Wednesday 6th January
    Manchester City v Manchester United (19:45)
  • Tuesday 19th January
    Manchester United v Manchester City (20:00)
  • Wednesday 20th January
    Aston Villa v Blackburn Rovers (19:45)

Suggested Bets:

Aston Villa should get through and I expect them to grab a win away and finish the job in a couple of weeks at Villa Park. I would back Villa to win in 90 minutes in both ties and at 6-4 at Ewood Park I think they are a great price. Aston Villa to win in 90 minutes is the best bet of the week.

Manchester United were humiliated by Leeds, where Sir Alex Ferguson fielded a below strength team, but they should have beaten Leeds. He was not a happy man;

He has always played a changed side in the Carling Cup, but now after that I suggest he will play a full strength team. There is no doubt new City manager will be going for a quick return. It is harsh on Mark Hughes, very in my view, but when it comes down to it United have the edge. It could be close and entertaining. At Eastlands I would suggest it will be tight and possibly lay Manchester City, giving us the draw, on Betfair. Lay Manchester City on Wednesday.

I suggest the final will be between Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Tuesdays Premier League Football Betting Tips

There is a full programme of Premier League Football fixtures on Tuesday and Wednesday. Lets hope the results go to form unlike Saturday’s bookies benefit.Tuesday has four fixtures with some interesting bets to be had.

Tonight’s fixtures;

  • Sunderland (2) Draw (5/2) Aston Villa (6/4)
  • Birmingham (5/4) Draw (5/2) Blackburn (13/5)
  • Bolton (13/10) Draw (12/5)West Ham (40/17
  • Manchester United (1/5) Draw (6)Wolverhampton (20)
Villa can beat Sunderland

Villa can beat Sunderland

Sunderland face a tough task against Aston Villa who won at Old Trafford on Saturday. They will hope to get three away points here and could do so at 6/4, which I think makes Aston Villa the best bet of the night. At 2/1 I would be happy to lay Villa giving us the draw too. Last season Villa won 2-1 and I expect a similar outcome tonight. Here are last season’s stat’s…

Birmingham and Blackburn is pretty uninspiring stuff and I would not be surprised if this was a 0-0 draw, nor would I be if it was a six goal thriller. I wouldn’t want to call it and would not advise any involvement here.

Bolton can win at home against West Ham in my view, with Megson under pressure. The Bolton boss is the 11/10 favourite to be the next boss to leave his post in the Premier League. West Ham are not playing well and are involved in a takeover bid, primarily becuase of a financial crisis. Bolton is a tentative selection.

Manchester United were stunned by Aston Villa on Saturday and with an injury list as long as my kids Christmas list Sir Alex Ferguson will be relieved to see Wolves visit Old Trafford. This should be a team they can roll over even with a reserve team. Wolves fans will be up in arms at that but a look at the Premier League table shows you the gulf in class that exists. Manchester United should win this hard on the steel. Sadly the price reflects that and is one for the double with Villa.

Tuesday night’s advice;

Double: Aston Villa and Manchester United.
