It’s a spot of overtime tonight for Racing Diary Punters….

We had another good day at Worcester on Wednsday with two winners, both vintage McCoy rides. I said he was the man to have on your side, and it was the case yesterday! Budwiser was miles clear of the field, but there was one better in front of Budwiser which illustrates the perils of backing in bumpers. Still, five winners from six bets is form I am very pleased with and hope you have made some good money!

Thursdays Free Racing Tips..

Today is the start of Newcastle’s three day Northumberland Plate meeting, culminating in the big race on Saturday in which I think Judgethemoment will follow up his Royal Ascot win . But to Thursdays action and it is a strange card at the Gosforth venue today with a decent listed race following a seller, but race planning aside the best of the action is to be found on Tyneside, which is where we are heading for two bets.

Markington (4.00) is in fantastic form at the moment. Looking to complete a hat-trick Peter Bowen clearly thinks that he is ahead of the handicapper on the flat so takes his chance today with a six pounds penalty. William Carson keeps the ride after showing great tenacity to get home by a neck at Pontefract at the weekend by a neck.  Recent wins are scarce amongst his 11 rivals and Markington looks rock solid over this two mile trip. This is not as strong as the last race, so lets hope he can win a bit easier today!

Then after the seller the best race of the day, a fillies listed event is run at 5.00 where Henry Cecil’s Gripsholm Castle is sure to be well supported. Her only start to date was an impressive win, at 20/1, in a Newmarket maiden in which she got the better of her stable mate comfortably by 4 1/2 lengths, she bolted in. Sadly we will not get anywhere near those double figure odds but with natural improvement this could be a filly that is better than this class and can win this in commanding style. The trainer is probably the best there is with fillies, so lets see how good she is today. Take an early price, if she drifts Bet365 will pay the bigger SP.

Elsewhere there is only one horse of interest, which sees us putting in a bit of overtime to back Tangerine Trees at 9.30.  There will not be many, if any, races run later than this eight runner six furlong sprint this season. Brian Smart’s horse can follow up his last course and distance win and send us to bed in profit. This could be the best bet of the day, as this one looks to have the measure of the field on form.
