Well I'm back! had a break and in that time I have completed the NVQ Level 3 that all trainers require. Having completed two of the three modules required it only leaves one, Racehorse Management.
That will be done next week at Newmarket, a week away again at the British Racing School, and after five days thats it done. However that doesn't mean that I can immediately set up as a trainer. I then have to appy for a licence and need to have suitable premises. That may be the difficult part, however there are a few irons in the fire.
Also one of our young horses runs for the first time on Saturday, one we bought as a foal, a filly by Val Royal who we have called Dolly Royal. She is well bred but was small as a foal and a 2 year old, she is not small now I can tell you!
She runs at Redcar in a Median Auction race over 7 furlongs. Although its not Royal Ascot the race is a good one to start her career and we will be very excited to see a horse we got as a foal make the racecourse. I just hope she shows something to make the wait worth it!

Fancy a Good Read?...Racing Books
I was given two racing books by my daughers. I see some of myself in BAxter who runs the SureFire Tipping Service and if you want a series of short stories that are not as far fetched as you may think, then Baxter is a good read. I love Baxter Vs the Bookies and hope to see yet more Baxter vs the Bookies soon. I may write my own series called Harris vs the World!

Baxter Vs The Bookies’ a series of short stories with a twist which concentrate on the battle between punters and bookies, with plenty of racing content, too. The hero of the stories – or, anti-hero, depending on your point of view, is Baxter, who runs the SureFire Tipping Service which doesn’t always exactly live up to its name – which only adds to the entertainment value of the yarns. For those who like racing and betting and a few laughs I recommend this to you.

The more I read the books the more I smiled, particularly as I can identify with someone who runs a tipping service for a living! Hopefully we are not too much like Baxter!
For people who like a good laugh then it is well worth a good read.
Obviously Roy Granville knows the game, he should he is a former bookie, even A P McCoy said "Good stuff, I really enjoyed reading it".- high praise indeed!
