Mark Hughes is set to be named Fulham manager within the next 24 hours after agreeing to fill the vacancy left by Roy Hodgson’s departure to Liverpool.

Following the news that Mark Hughes is set to be named as the next permanent Fulham manager, William Hill have opened a book on which of Fulham’s stars will stay and which will go. Mark Schwarzer is 1/4 to have left Fulham amid reported interest from Arsenal. He is 11/4 to still be at Fulham come the end of the transfer window. Captain Danny Murphy is 1/9 to be staying at Fulham. Last season’s Player Of The Year, Bobby Zamora is 1/8 to stay. Elsewhere Paul Konchesky is 6/5 to go, 8/13 to stay and Brede Hangeland is 11/4 to go, 1/4 to stay. If he manages to keep his best players, it appears that Fulham may well have a season very much like the last one. Fulham are 1/16 to stay up, 6/1 to get relegated, 2/1 to finish in the top half and 4/11 to finish in the bottom half.

“Mark Hughes will be hoping that he can hold on to the majority of Fulham’s best players as and if he does, we believe that Fulham could have a decent season,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

William Hill Odds:

To Leave Fulham Before The End Of The Transfer Window:

Mark Schwarzer: 1/4 Yes; 11/4 No

Brede Hangeland: 11/4 Yes; 1/4 No

Paul Konchesky: 6/5 Yes; 8/13 No

Danny Murphy: 5/1 Yes; 1/9 No

Clint Dempsey: 4/1 Yes; 1/7 No

Bobby Zamora: 9/2 Yes; 1/8 No

David Beckham has promised West Ham that he will give them an answer as to whether he will join them, within the next few days. William Hill make him 4/1 to return to East London, the place of his birth.

“The odds suggest that while it is not certain he will be leaving LA, he is obviously giving it some serious consideration,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly

Leading bookmaker Stan James will refund all losing stakes (as a free bet up to £250) placed between now and the start of the Premier League season on the outright market if Manchester City win the forthcoming Premier League Title. The firm are also offering punters 25/1 that they can name Roberto Mancini’s starting XI in the season curtain-raiser at White Hart Lane on August 14th.

Manchester City title contenders?

Head of PR Charlie McCann: ” We at Stan James believe you can’t buy the title and that this is at least one season too soon for the Eastlands Club. More big names, and egos, are sure to arrive in Manchester between now and the end of the transfer window, but it will surely take time for them to gel and we are of the opinion that this won’t be City’s season. We will refund all losing bets on the Premier League title if Roberto Mancini can weld his great players into a great team. We refunded losing stakes when Spain won the World Cup earlier in the month but are confident that we won’t be paying out on City. Such is the depth of the City squad that we are also offering punters 25/1 that they can name Mancini’s starting XI v Spurs in the first game of the new Premier League season.”

Premier League Title 2010/11:

JAMIE CARRAGHER told the Liverpool Echo that he is confident Fernando Torres will remain at Anfield to help the club regain their place in the Champions League. The Spaniard’s future has been the subject of intense speculation with both Chelsea and Manchester City linked with the prolific striker.

Torres last match for Liverpool?

Reds managing director Christian Purslow is working hard to persuade Torres to stay put and Liverpool have always insisted he is not for sale any price. However the bookmakers think differently. Paddy Power, who interestingly suspended the betting on Joe Cole signing for Liverpool before anyone else have now suspended betting on Fernando Torres quitting Anfield.

There has been a huge move in the markets with Torres being quoted at all prices. Racing Diary has also heard from a good source that Torres wishes to leave Liverpool, but it now depends if Chelsea or Manchester City can come up with the cash. Chelsea may struggle under financial fair play rules.

However William Hill take a different view. With a number of clubs itching to get their hands on Fernando Torres’s signiture, Hills have opened a book on which club he will represent on the first day of the season and perhaps surprisingly he is 1/2 to still be a Liverpool player. Moneybags Man City are 7/2 and Chelsea 8/1.

“There are very few teams who can afford Torres price tag, as a result we feel that he will remain a Liverpool player,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Fernando Torres‘ Club On First Day Of 2010/11 Season: 1/2 Liverpool, 7/2 Man City, 5/1 Chelsea, 8/1 Barcelona, 12/1 Inter, 16/1 Real Madrid…..Others On Request….Loan Deals Count

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is not actively pursuing Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, according to BBC Sport. New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has admitted Torres is unhappy with the club, but that any approach depends on the Spanish star wanting to move. Liverpool have placed a reported £70m valuation on the 26-year-old, who has also been linked with Chelsea. And though Mancini has spoken of his admiration for Torres, City have not yet registered an interest in him.

William Hill are taking bets on how many of Manchester City’s starting XI from the final game of last season will start the first game of this one. With the spending spree set to continue, Hills offer just 13/8 that only 3 or 4 make the line up against Spurs on the 14th of August. With two of the players from City’s 1-1 draw with West Ham having left the club already and a somewhat depleted XI starting the game, Hill’s are offering 8/1 that 8 or 9 start.

“City have made no secret of their desire to bringin players of the highest quality in an attempt to improve on their 5th place last season and they could probably make 3 or 4 starting XIs out of the squad that they have amassed. The odds suggest that Mancini will be keen to blood his new signings against Tottenham,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann is believed to be heading Fulham‘s wish-list, as their search to find Roy Hodgson’s successor continues.

According to The People, chairman Mohamed Al Fayed is determined to appoint a pedigree manager and is reportedly not favouring a move for former England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson who took charge of the Ivory Coast at World Cup 2010. Stan James cut Jurgen Klinsmann from 66 to 12/1 and now 6/1 to be the next Fulham boss.

Head of PR Charlie McCann: “It is quite ironic that Klinsmann who was once approached with a view to take over at Liverpool has been backed off the boards today for the Fulham job made available by the move of Roy Hodgson to Anfield. Eriksson remains an uneasy 6/4 favourite and it may not be the one-horse race some considered a couple of days ago.”

Next Fulham manager:
S G Eriksson 6/4
D Jones 4/1
M Hughes 4/1
J Klinsmann 6/1 (from 66s)

Sven-Goran Eriksson has emerged as one of the new favourites to take over as Fulham’s new manager after Martin Jol reluctantly opted to stay at Ajax.

Read more in the Telegraph. From a betting point of view…

The long running saga of who will be the next Fulham manager took yet another turn this morning when Martin Jol admitted he was staying with Ajax. This has seen his odds drift from 1/8 to 25/1 at William Hill in the space of four days. Conversely Hills are facing big liabilities on 5/2 favourite Dave Jones taking the hot seat having previously quoted him at up to 25/1. Sven Goran Eriksson also seems keen on a return to the Premier League and is now the 9/2 second favourite. Alan Curbishley and Bob Bradley are the 9/1 joint third favourites.

“Some far sighted punters could be in for a big windfall, having backed Dave Jones at 25/1, but the likely sticking point could prove to be the issue of compensation to Cardiff City. We are expecting this saga to continue for a little while longer and could still see an outsider take the job,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Next Fulham Manager: 5/2 Dave Jones; 9/2 Sven Goran Eriksson; 9/1 Alan Curbishley; 9/1 Bob Bradley; 10/1 Mark Hughes; 10/1 Gianfranco Zola; 12/1 Otmar Hitzfeld; 14/1 Ray Lewington; 14/1 Stuart Baxter; 16/1 Lee Clark; 20/1 Bar

With the Premier League season just weeks away, William Hill are already speculating on which of the most endangered of species, Premier League managers, will be first to go. William Hill make Newcastle’s Chris Hughton the 4/1 favourite to bite the bullet, with big spending Man City 5/1 to give Roberto Mancini the elbow first.

Phil Brown - sacked last season

Phil Brown was the long standing favourite last season, but clung on longer than expected. Rafa Benitez is another who was short, but lasted out the season. Who will be the first to go this year? I think Steve Bruce could be in the firing line. Sunderland faded badly last season and a bad start would soon see unrest at the Stadium of Light.

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has revealed that he does have cash to spend on players but the Magpies must get value for money in any transfer dealings. This means he doesn’t have Premier League cash to splash and in my view he may find the Premier League a different kettle of fish to League One.

Roberto Di Matteo is 11/2, Roberto Martinez 7/1 and Steve Bruce 8/1. The longest serving managers in the Premier League, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger are both 66/1 outsiders and David Moyes is 40/1. No managers to get the sack all season is 40/1. Hills odds suggest that the season will see four or five manager casualities, is offered at 13/8.

Elsewhere, the battle for Martin Jol’s services appears to be developing into a protracted tug of war after Ajax refused a request from their manager to discuss terms with Fulham. Jol is believed to have told the Ajax chairman, Uri Colonel, that he wants to join Fulham to replace Roy Hodgson as manager, contradicting reports in the Dutch media that he had resolved to stay. Read more in the Telegraph.

“With the emergence of a big 7 in the Premier League, the pressure is on at both ends of the table, with points more important than ever in the hunt for glory. It could well be, that the pressure to win games becomes too much for some managers and there could be a few victims in the queue at the dole office by the end of the season,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

William Hill: How Many Premier League Managers Will Leave Their Post Before End Of 2010/11 Season?: 14/1 None or One, 3/1 Two or Three, 13/8 Four or Five, 9/4 Six or seven, 11/2 Eight or more

First Premier League Manager To Get The Sack: 4/1 Chris Hughton; 5/1 Roberto Mancini; 11/2 Roberto Di Matteo; 7/1 Roberto Martinez; 8/1 Steve Bruce; 10/1 Ian Holloway; 14/1 Alex McCleish; 14/1 Sam Allardyce; 14/1 Mick McCarthy; 16/1 Martin O’Neill; 20/1 Next Permanent Fulham Manager; 20/1 Owen Coyle, 25/1 Avram Grant; 25/1 Tony Pulis; 28/1 Harry Redknapp; 28/1 Carlo Ancelotti; 28/1 Roy Hodgson; 40/1 No Manager To Go; 50/1 David Moyes; 66/1 Arsene Wenger; 66/1 Sir Alex Ferguson

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole. Read more in the Telegraph.

This has to be a good signing for Liverpool, but much will depend on them keeping Torres and Gerrard. Certainly they have a good manager in place, but what do the bookies say?

Following the news that Joe Cole has signed for Liverpool, William Hill offer 1/4 to start Liverpool’s first game of the season and 11/4 that he does not. Hills have also priced him at 7/4 to score 5 or six goals, and he is 13/8 to score more or less than this. Liverpool are 2/1 to finish in the top four and 4/11 to not.

“Joe Cole is the marquee signing that every Liverpool fan was hoping for. Whilst the odds suggest that his arrival may not propel Liverpool into the Champions League, it seems it will at least tempt star players Gerrard and Torres to stay, with the two of them odds on to be Liverpool players on the 15th of August,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Head of PR Charlie McCann: “Joe Cole is a very good signing for the Reds when you consider that he looks a more than adequate replacement for Yossi Benayoun but we still believe Liverpool are a club in transition and will struggle to return to their glory years in the short term. That said Cole’s signature shows that reports of Liverpool’s demise are premature and the next few weeks will be interesting to see if the club can keep their trio of big-name players in Mascherano, Gerrard and Torres. Not yet a new era but a step forward that’s for sure.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has called for the Catalan giants to stop discussing the potential switch in the media, but it seems that the matter is still far from dead as far as the Spanish champions are concerned. Read more at Goal.com

William Hill now think that Cesc Fabregas will be an Arsenal player for another year offering 1/1 that he signs for Barca in 2011 and 6/1 that the move occurs in 2010. Hills are a massive 7/1 that he never signs for Barcelona.

“We think that it is not a case of if Fabregas signs but when and present we think he will be an Arsenal player for one final season,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.
What Year Will Cesc Fabregas Sign For Barcelona?: 6/4 2010, 1/1 2011, 9/2 2012 or later, 7/1 Never To Sign For Barca.

Given the recent World Cup win and the photo, I think it is worth a punt for him to sign this year!
