Racing Diary’s View….

The opposition is weak and this is a huge chance for Jonathan Trott to knock a double ton and for the exciting Eion Morgan to score a maiden test century at Lords. The fielding is poor and the pressure is off, relatively speaking. Trott is as exciting a batsman as England has had for many years,

England stormed to a seven-wicket victory over Australia at the Kensington Oval to land the T20 Cricket World Cup 2010

England Beat Aussies to Win T20 World Cup

The ease of England‘s success in the final of the ICC World Twenty20 made a mockery of previous failures, as Craig Kieswetter and Kevin Pietersen‘s stand of 111 helped them cruise past Australia’s 147 for six – with three full overs to spare.

Kieswetter (63) hit six fours and a six in his 40-ball 50 and Pietersen was almost as dominant in a run chase which became no-contest long before captain Paul Collingwood clubbed the winning runs.

Both of England‘s second-wicket pair got out before the end, allowing Paul Collingwood to appropriately shepherd his team to the previously elusive silverware.

Australia, hitherto unbeaten in this tournament, stumbled disastrously to eight for three in the third over after being put in on a pacy pitch.

David Hussey (59) oversaw a well-crafted recovery. But England had taken a telling advantage, and were in no mood to let it slip this time against the old enemy. Hussey shared a fifth-wicket stand of 50 with Cameron White and also combined to good effect with his brother Michael to help add 55 in the last five overs.

But the resulting total never looked enough, and in the end England made it seem woefully short. England are Cricket T20 Champions of the World!

Their only minor moments of discomfort came with an early departure of their own – Michael Lumb spearing a catch to mid-on off Shaun Tait – and then an embarrassing five-minute hiatus for the organisers as groundstaff struggled to fix a glitch with the sightscreen.

Kieswetter returned to crunch the very next ball, from Dirk Nannes, past cover for four.

Kevin Pietersen, still on a high after flying home mid-tournament to witness the birth of his first child, soon showed he was once again at the top of his form yet still had to cede centre stage to his fellow South Africa-born batsman.

Australia had no answer, hastening their defeat with some sloppy work in the field and occasionally ill-directed bowling.

With the match as good as won, Kevin Pietersen got underneath a big hit at Steven Smith to hole out to David Warner’s ultra-safe hands – and Kieswetter went in bizarre circumstances, lunging away to leg to give himself room leaving himself unable to reach a delivery from Mitchell Johnson which clattered into off and middle-stump.

It made little difference, though, as Paul Collingwood and Eoin Morgan completed a simple task with minimum fuss and to much adulation from a sell-out crowd.

Hussey’s earlier hard work had brought him a 49-ball 50, containing two sixes and just one four. But England had got their retaliation in first with the new ball. T20 Cricket is a very exciting game to watch, today certainly eas.

Ryan Sidebottom had Shane Watson fencing a chance to wicketkeeper Kieswetter, who could only parry but straight into the hands of Graeme Swann at first slip.

Lumb then kept his nerve as Australia apparently lost theirs, Warner stranded by an under-armed direct hit from cover after Michael Clarke had called him through for an unwise, stop-start single.

Brad Haddin went for the addition of just one more dicey run into the off-side when he was given out caught behind by Billy Doctrove. It was a superb diving catch down the leg-side by Kieswetter, but Haddin appeared less impressed by the quality of the decision – eventually walking off in stunned disbelief, pointing to his hip.

In the absence of any boundaries Clarke, in particular, could only get off strike with sharp and potentially risky singles – until Sidebottom strayed in line to the Australia captain at the start of the fifth over. England were short price in play favourites as far as Cricket Betting is concerned.

That was the only four in a powerplay which brought Australia their T20 Cricket tournament worst total of 24 for three after six overs.

Clarke eventually fell in the 10th over, thanks to some great anticipation and athleticism from his opposite number Paul Collingwood - diving high to his left to take the catch at straight midwicket after Clarke had gone down the pitch to Swann.

Big hitter White and Hussey were forced into unaccustomed conservatism, until they suddenly targeted Michael Yardy’s left-arm spin – taking 20 in sixes and fours, as well as a single, from the 13th over.

It was potentially a turning point, forcing Collingwood into a change of plan with the early return of England’s death bowler Tim Bresnan. England Won the T20 Cricket World Cup tactical battle as well as the match.

After Hussey had escaped on 26 – Stuart Broad barely laying a hand on a swirling skier off Bresnan at wide mid-on – Collingwood took a gamble by handing Luke Wright the ball for the first time in the tournament.

Wright did not let him down with an over which cost just five runs and brought the huge wicket of White, Broad showing plenty of mettle to claim another awkward catch in the off-side ring as he sprinted back from point and dived between two other fielders to cling on. The Husseys took over from there, with enough resources left to salvage only a total Australia could just about hope to defend – but not for long.

Cricket Betting is very exciting on the T20 World Cup, roll on the next one!

Paul Collingwood’s England have a chance to make cricket history on Sunday – and the captain insists they are ready to do it.

Victory over a mighty Australia team at Kensington Oval will deliver the World Twenty20 title to England, and this country’s first International Cricket Council tournament triumph too. England have tried and failed for 35 years to do that, reaching four finals to no avail along the way.

But one more win – a fifth in succession at this tournament, against unbeaten opponents – will put Collingwood’s Twenty20 team in a league of their own in English cricket, and allow the man himself to boast he has gone one better than illustrious predecessors Mike Brearley, Mike Gatting, Graham Gooch and Michael Vaughan.

Stan James face a lose/lose situation ahead of the 2010 T20 World Cup with Australia the biggest losers in the book and the firms offer to pay back losing stakes on the outright market placed prior to the start of the T20 competition if England win the tournament.

Head of PR Charlie McCann: ” You have to take your hat off to the Aussies and Michael Hussy in particular for one of the great innings of all time in any form of cricket last night, but it has put us in the unenviable position of having to cheer on the Aussies in the final despite the Baggy Greens being our biggest losers in the outright book. For a long time in yesterday’s semi it looked as if Pakistan had timed their charge to the final perfectly but Hussey’s extraordinary heroics gives us our first Ashes final in a major limited overs competition since Calcutta back in 1987.”

After almost crashing out of the World Twenty20 in a rain-afflicted group stage, the signs are that England have mastered the format at just the right time in the Super Eight. A perfect run of three wins against reigning champions Pakistan, much-fancied South Africa and perennial dark horses New Zealand has seen Andy Flower’s side surge into a semi-final against Sri Lanka – and raised hopes of finally ending the country’s duck in International Cricket Council tournaments.

William Hill have seen a real gamble on England to beat Sri Lanka in the Twenty20 World Cup semi and they are 4/5 favourites, with Sri Lanka offered at 1/1.

“Punters are becoming more patriotic by the day and we have had a number of doubles for England to win the Twenty20 cup and the football World Cup at 28/1,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

England are determined to repay Kevin Pietersen on Monday, by making sure they reach the ICC World Twenty20 semi-finals in his absence. Paul Collingwood’s team will be in the last four as long as they can avoid a wide-margin defeat against New Zealand in St Lucia – unless South Africa first lose to Pakistan at the same venue. In that event, England will have done enough already by beating first Pakistan and then South Africa yesterday in the Super Eight stage – each time on the back of Pietersen half-centuries.

William Hill can report significant support for England to beat New Zealand, despite the absence of Kevin Pietersen and they are the 4/5 to do so. Lumb is the 3/1 joint favourite with Kieswetter to top score.

“Punters obviously think England are very strong as they are piling in despite KP being on the plane home,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

England‘s two ICC World Twenty20 warm-up opponents are both confident they have done their homework and are ready to make their mark in an ICC tournament this time.

Unlike England, South Africa have already won one world event but have often been accused of ‘choking’ at the crucial moment – a tag they were unable to erase when they lost in the semi-finals of the last World Twenty20 at Trent Bridge just under a year ago.

Ravi Bopara is impatient to show England how much he has improved since he last played for his country. Bopara can expect an early chance too to demonstrate the benefit he has derived from playing for Auckland and then in the Indian Premier League this past winter.

Kevin Pietersen‘s expected absence from England‘s first ICC World Twenty20 warm-up match against Bangladesh, after spending a little precious time at home with his pregnant wife, means there is likely to be a vacancy at number three on Wednesday.

William Hill now have Afghanistan as a big five figure liability to win the Twenty20 World Cup that starts at the weekend and should they win they will cost three times as much as an England victory! Hills offer 5/1 that Afghanistan win a match. Australia are the 3/1 favourites to win the cup with India well backed at 9/2 and England 10/1 outsiders.

“England have been friendless all week and even Afghanistan would could us more,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

William Hill ICC World Twenty20: 3/1 Australia, 4/1 South Africa, 9/2 India, 11/2 Sri Lanka, 7/1 Pakistan, 10/1 West Indies, 10/1 England, 12/1 New Zealand, 66/1 Bangladesh, 250/1 Zimbabwe, 250/1 Afghanistan, 500/1 Ireland.
England Batsman To Score The Most Sixes: 2/1 Pietersen, 5/2 Kieswetter, 5/1 Lumb, 5/1 Collingwood, 6/1 Bopara, 8/1 Wright, 10/1 Morgan
England Top Bat: 3/1 Kevin Pietersen, 9/2 Ravi Bopara, 4/1 Craig Kieswetter, 9/2 Michael Lumb, 9/1 Paul Collingwood, 5/1 Eoin Morgan, 12/1 Michael Yardy, 14/1 Luke Wright, 66/1 Stuart Broad, 50/1 Graeme Swann

After two failed run chases in the first two ODI’s England need to step up to the plate and make sure they’re still in the series by the end of Wednesday. William Hill Sports team preview todays game.

In both games so far Australia have given England extremely modest and below par totals to get but England’s batsmen have really struggled to get going, throwing away great positions to win and only Paul Collingwood (6/1 to top score for England) has managed to get a score of over 50.

The disappointing thing for England is that it’s not even brilliant bowling that has been their downfall – it’s poorly timed shots or little nudges through to Tim Paine behind the stumps that have seen the Three Lions lose their wickets.

A couple of positives for England though have been the return to form of Ravi Bopara (4/1 to finish top England run scorer) and the stroke making of Luke Wright (6/1 top bat). I would include Adil Rashid’s fine showing in the first ODI but he was then dumped straight after!

Bopara to be fair had a shocker in The Ashes and was rightly dropped for the final Test, but credit where credit’s due, he went back to Essex, got his head down and scored some runs, he looks like he’s regained some much needed confidence and can count himself unlucky to not have a half century to his name so far this series.

Wright has flattered to deceive on a few occasions for England but I think now he’s starting to look at home a little further down the order, if he can just get his timing right a big score is surely just round the corner and once he does that he could be up there with Kevin Pietersen as one of England’s real dangermen.

If these two can keep up their form and Andrew Strauss (10/3 to top score for England) can extend his excellent batting performances then England should be able to get the better of Australia this time.

England will however be without two players for this match, Joe Denly is struggling with a knee problem while Stuart Broad has a neck strain and is to be rested for this game.

The hosts are 11/8 shots to win the match (9/2 to win the series), while Australia are 8/15 for the match and huge odds-on shots at 1/8 to win the series outright.

Callum Ferguson has been the man for Australia so far with the bat, top scoring in both one-dayers – he’s a 5/1 chance to make it a hat-trick. Cameron White has also played well, scoring a 53 and a 42 and could be there or there about’s again – the number 3 is 9/2 to top score for Australia in this game.

England Won the Ashes on Sunday 23rd August 2009…

The Ashes are England’s and the Aussies don’t like it, not one bit. They are having a right go at their team and the media is full of experts giving their views. Here is a sample, from Telegraph TV with Tony Greg giving his insight!

They are the first to crow when they win, so we can take pleasure is watching this with a smile on our faces!

Sacking Australia’s captain Ricky Ponting would be “completely unfair” as a reaction to losing the Ashes to England, Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland has said. He is right, how is it his fault? I suspect the selectors were the ones who thought a spinner wasn’t needed. Then again I don’t really care! We won the Ashes and it is BRILLIANT!

Well done England!

England have regained the Ashes. Australia’s defiance ended at 5.48pm with England completing a 197 run victory to spark loud scenes of celebration and jubilation at The Oval.

England win the Ashes 2-1

Flintoff Signs off with Ashes win…

It was tense but England bowled out Australia to win the Ashes at The Oval! Andrew Flintoff made the crucial breakthrough as England regained the Ashes on an emotional day at the Oval. England all-rounder Flintoff, featuring in his 79th and final Test, had the telling impact on the npower series decider in an unusual manner as he ran out Australia captain Ricky Ponting in mid-afternoon.

Flintoff closes his test career as an Ashes winner!

What a great summer…Andrew Strauss man of the series for England.

Andrew Strauss now joins Michael Vaughan as an England Ashes winning captain while Ricky Ponting’s glorious career will always have one big black mark. Today he became the first Australian captain since Billy Murdoch more than a century ago to lose two Ashes series in England.

His fate was sealed when Graeme Swann took his fourth wicket of the day dismissing Hussey when he flicked a catch to short leg.

Well done Andrew Strauss

England regained the Ashes with a momentous 197-run win in the deciding Test to seal a 2-1 series triumph.

After losing 5-0 in Australia in 2007, victory in The Oval sun was reminiscent of England’s legendary 2005 Ashes win.

Well done to Nathan Lynch who tipped England to win and told you early in the summer! The best cricket and free betting tips from Racing Diary!

England have set Australia a total that requires a world record fourth innings for them to stop England winning the Ashes. With two full days left, the Ashes must surely be coming back, as they did in 2005 to England.

Trott- 100 on debut

England lost three quick wickets last night, but Strauss and Trott came out and batted well setting up a big England lead. Jonathan Trott scored 41 in the first innings and made his maiden test 100 on debut. A fantastic knock. The lead is well over 500 and with two days to go England are firm favourites to win the test match and with it the Ashes, 2-1.

England declared on 373-9 leaving a target of 546 for Australia to get, With two full days left England are firm favourites to win, but a great two days of cricket is in store and there is no way the Australian team will lie down.

The stage is set for drama at the Oval.
