BBC NEWS Report:

Michael Schumacher is not ruling out the possibility of standing in for injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa.

The Brazilian fractured his skull in Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying and may be out for the rest of the year, while Schumacher, 40, is a Ferrari adviser, the seven-time champion’s spokeswoman told BBC Sport.

“The whole thing will be considered by Ferrari. If they approach Michael, then he will consider it, But there is no reason for him to step into their discussion.”

Schumacher, who retired from Formula 1 at the end of the 2006 season, told the BBC in an interview at the German Grand Prix two weeks ago that he was not interested in returning to F1.

However, his spokeswoman Sabine Kehm said that was a reference to a permanent return.

“Usually, I would say he’s not interested because he’s fine with his life and he doesn’t miss anything but now the situation is so different – it’s very hypothetical – and Michael doesn’t want to step into that [discussion], Michael had a motorcycle accident in February when he had a neck problem – and I really can’t tell you if his neck would be fine to drive an F1 race, If Ferrari asked him whether he would consider driving, he would have it checked – and remember he is a 40-year-old man, too.”

Schumacher’s manager Willi Weber insists the German will not drive for Ferrari in the next race – the European Grand Prix in Valencia in Spain on 23 August. Weber told Germany’s SID news agency;

“Michael will not sit in a car in Valencia, this is out of the question, What would we expect from Schumacher if he stepped into a Formula One car? To win. The expectations from both sides would be too high.”

Tiger Woods Doubles in Price for Open Victory…

Tiger Woods is wild off the tee and struggles to a 1-over-par 71 in the first round. ‘Hopefully tomorrow I can hit it a little better,’ he says.

By Chuck Culpepper July 17, 2009 Reporting from The Open @ Turnberry, Scotland

Spending an inconvenient amount of time in the immediate company of weeds, Tiger Woods couldn’t join the swell of British Open sentiment today that saw Tom Watson shoot 65 on the cusp of age 60.

Tiger Woods clambered to a 1-over-par 71 in tranquil conditions along the Firth of Clyde, reverting somewhat to the troubled off-the-tee form that marked the earlier parts of his season but seemed mostly scrubbed out through his last three events.

Betfair Price..

You may recall we advised to to <a title="Lay Tiger Woods” href=”http://www.racingdiary.co.uk/2009/07/13/why-im-laying-tiger-woods-for-the-open-golf/”>LAY Tiger Woods at 3.65 (Betfair).

Lee Keys Previews the second test between England and Australia on Thursday at Lords…

Ponting hoping for better at Lords..

Onwards to the second test at Lords, a ground where England have failed to beat the Aussies since 1934. England were not up the standard required in Cardiff to veer look like causing the visitors problems and I don’t think the queue’s will be too long for the 4/1 about an England victory.

Lords has been a batting paradise of late but it must be worth pointing out that when there is cloud cover the ball is very receptive to swing bowling there so be careful about siding with the draw around the 6/5 mark.

The Aussies must be a good bet then surely???

Well of the three possible outcomes I would favour an Aussie victory but it has to be disconcerting that at no stage did James Anderson and Monty Panesar look in trouble when blocking out the Aussie attack. I mean could you see those two holding out against the likes of Shane Warne and Glen Mcgrath for the best part of seventy two balls???

If you look at England’s second innings it is safe to say that two of our key batsmen in Pietersen and Bopara were both out in bizarre circumstances. KP was clearly thinking about his lovely missus when watching the ball smash into his off stump, a shot which is amongst the strangest and worst shots I have ever seen played at test level. While poor Ravi Bopara was given an awful LBW decision.

The Aussie attack despite being better than our own was still short of what is required under normal circumstances to bowl a side out twice. I don’t think they offer anything out of the ordinary and for that reason I wouldn’t be rushing to take the 13/8 on offer.

So despite my epic failure to come up with some sort of value for an outright bet in the second test due to varying negatives for each of the three outcomes I have found a little gem in one of the lesser known markets.

You can back Australia at 10/11 with Boylesports to have the highest opening partnership. This is some serious value given that the convicts opening partnerships has been higher than England’s in five out of the last six innings, with the other one tied.

Australia’s openers have scored 415 runs at an average of 69.17 before a wicket is lost in the last six innings.

England’s openers have scored 140 runs at an average of 23.33 before a wicket is lost in the last six innings.

Even after the stats you only have to look at the first test. Andrew Strauss hates left hand swing bowlers (Zaheer Khan has got him five times in the last five matches) as Mitchell Johnson added to his woes by getting him out in the first innings. Then there’s Alistair Cook, who seems to be completely out of sorts especially judging by his posture when getting out LBW in the second innings. He was all over the place, with his head nowhere near in line with the ball.

The Aussies may have a weakness in Phillip Hughes but his attacking nature usually means there have been a good few runs on the board before he gets out to one of his unorthodox and unnecessary shots.

Simon Katich proved why I wanted to get on the right side of him in the runs market with a superlative century in the last test and I see no reason why his new found technique will desert him at Lords.

This is a very good value bet, the stats back it up and what I saw visually in the first test backs it up – GET ON.

4pts Australia opening partnership to be higher than England’s @ 10/11 Boylesports.

Firstly, let me say that if you want insightful golf analysis, this is not it. I don’t play golf, I don’t actualy like golf, but I know a good value bet when I see one and at 3.65- 14/1 bar Tiger Woods has to be taken on in The Open Golf.

Below is an article that I just read from Sportinglife.com;

Woods has described Turnberry as “a lot more difficult than people are letting on.” The world number one had never seen the Ayrshire links until on Sunday, but he had not visited Hoylake before the 2006 Open either and won there by two from fellow American Chris DiMarco.

“You’ve just got to do your homework,” added Woods after a round that began around 6.30am.The victory three years ago was notable for the fact that he used his driver only once in the entire championship – and playing partner Nick Faldo reckoned that there was no need for it even then.After recent rain – there were more showers on Monday morning – Turnberry is not as fast-running as Royal Liverpool and he has still to decide his strategy.

“I’ve got the driver in (his bag), but I don’t know how it’s going to be used.”

For someone who has never played the course before then there is good value taking him on at a short price, with plenty, in fact the rest of the field on our side! Laying Tiger Woods is my bet for the open, my one and only bet.
