Paul Weller has been the subject of a massive gamble this weekend, with his odds of winning the Mercury Prize were slashed to 1/10. William Hill have received a number of large bets that seem to suggest that the Modfather may be the man this year. The XX had lead the way since the shortlist was announced two months ago, yet Weller has become the new favourite with just two days to go until the announcement.
“There must be a number of romantic punters who will remember when Paul Weller should have won the prize in 1994 and they obviously feel that 2010 should be the Modfather’s year,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.
