Another Great Day at Glorious Goodwood, If You Ignored Racing UK

More highs and lows at Glorious Goodwood on Thursday. Carl Harris blows his own trumpet and has a dig at Racing UK’s pundits….

Kieren Fallon got a great tune out of the veteran Borderlescott as the eight-year-old landed the Audi King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood by half a length.

Racing down the centre of the track, Robin Bastiman‘s stable star came with his customary late run and landed some hefty bets as the 9-2 favourite. We were amonst the backers as he made it five from five for our Podcasts. Sadly it was not six as a bad injury struck Age Of Aquarious.

Age Of Aquarius‘ racing career is in severe jeopardy after he suffered a bad leg injury at Goodwood on Thursday.

Aidan O’Brien’s stayer broke down with around half a mile to run of the Artemis Goodwood Cup, for which he was sent off the odds-on favourite.

Age Of Aquarius was swiftly taken to Arundel Equine Hospital, where subsequent X-rays revealed the four-year-old had sustained ruptured ligaments below the fetlock of his off-fore.

Dr Paul Dupreez, senior partner of the Arundel Equine Hospital, said: “He is fine and is on his way home, supported by a splint and bandages.

Full marks to all at Ballydoyle, it is easy to take the easy option, and the good news is he will be fine, if not to race then he will make a good stallion. Illustrious Blue has made Goodwood his own over the last few years and thrust local trainer William Knight into the spotlight with his seventh course win in the Artemis Goodwood Cup, after the favourite pulled up.

Richard Hughes won on a Richard Hannon two year-old once again. Those guys are exceptional, as we say on Racing Diary, always back the two year-olds.

Racing UK (Scoff)….

It is amazing that the Racing UK pundits for the last three days have had three picks per day and not one of them has come up with a winner. They are knowledgeable guys, but I find it amazing that not one of them has picked a winner. It is easy to say that when we have had five out of six on our Podcasts, but zero from nine isn’t great for the channel!

The fact was not lost on the excellent Nick Luck, who was quick with the digs! That said Racing UK is excellent and the pundits in the main are good. However it is too good an opportunity to gloat, we are winning for fun here at Racing Diary, they can’t buy a winner!

Two more days left! Things can only get better!
