Frankie Dettori Can Win Another Epsom Derby!

Frankie Dettori last won the Derby in 2007 on Authorized. He has only ever won one Derby. Though 13/2 Rewilding could, in my view give Frankie Dettori a derby victory, in the Godolphin blue, that would be a very emotional victory for the Italian.

1:40 Epsom Verdant. Can you give another chance to Verdant who bombed last time.  I have seen Sir Michael Stout horses run shockers and then come back and do very well.

I remember Harbinger at York last year, shocking, finished last, but has come back to prove what a great horse he really is. So I am going to give Verdant the nod after his flop last time at Newbury. We should get a decent price.

2:10 Epsom (Woodcote Stakes) Casual Glimpse. This is not easy, but when in doubt in a two year old race go with The Richards, Hannon and Hughes.  They have some top quality two year-olds and have chosen to run Casual Glimpse who looked very good when winning first time out. I won’t get too involved but this is a tried and tested method, back Hannon two year-olds.

3:15 Epsom (Dash) Fathom Five. Last time out Chris Wall’s six year-old won over course and distance, which at Epsom is vitally important. In fact he has won twice at Epsom and last year did so from a mark of 93, today he runs off 94. Alan Munro, in my view, rode a brilliant race last time out and I am very keen on the chances of Fathom Five here, certainly at an each-way price. There is little between the field, margins are small, but Fathom Five is one I really like today!

4:00 Epsom (Investec Derby) Rewilding, each-way. I think this could be Frankie’s year. Rewilding ran really well at Goodwood over 1m 3f, pulling away suggesting that the extra furlong would suit him well. Jan Vermeer has been heavily backed but I am looking for some value here and Rewilding fits the bill. OK so £45,000 is not a huge sum to connections but he has been supplemented for the Derby.

Rewilding is about a 13/2 shot so I am going each-way here. I Was impressed with that Goodwood run and I like Frankie Dettori, I think he will at least be in the shake-up in The Derby. It will also be a debut classic winner for Mamood Al Zarooni.
