Sir Michael Stoute’s Nibani was a huge eyecatcher on his Newmarket introduction as a juvenile and is strongly fancied to open his account at Windsor.

It was something of a surprise that the Dalakhani colt was sent off a relatively unconsidered 20-1 chance on his debut given his connections, but there was plenty to like about his performance.

The chestnut was slowly away from the starting gate and looked all at sea in the early exchanges, but he began to understand what was expected of him running down into the dip and stayed on strongly to finish fourth.

Both his breeding and that initial performance suggest this step up in trip will suit and entries in next month’s Dante Stakes at York and the Derby at Epsom suggest he is held in high regard.

Windsor maidens are generally competitive and the attheraces.com Maiden Stakes is unlikely to be any different, but Nibani looks an exciting prospect and can take this en-route to much better things.

Basle has been talked up as a potential Group-race contender by trainer Gay Kelleway and she looks difficult to oppose in the Domino’s Pizza Classified Stakes.

The three-year-old was beaten just a nose into second on her first appearance at Kempton in October and the race could hardly have worked out better with the third and the fourth going on to subsequent success.

As a result Basle was sent off the 1-4 favourite for her next next start at Wolverhampton and rewarded those who took the prohibitive odds with an all-the-way win.

A backward filly as a juvenile, improvement looks certain with another winter under her belt and she should prove too good for these rivals.

Bajan Bullet has had a busy start to the year but can make that experience count in Folkestone’s digibet.com Median Auction Maiden Stakes.

A little unlucky to finish third on debut at Lingfield having been trapped wide throughout, she showed she is equally capable on turf when beaten just half a length by stablemate Little Libretto at Nottingham a few days ago.

Her trainer David Evans always excels with his juveniles and while Bajan Bullet does not look anything out of the ordinary, she sets a fair standard in a field full of debutants.

Flouncing has also yet to finish outside the first three and must go well in the Brian Barnes 65th Birthday Celebration Median Auction Maiden Stakes.

An initial third at Kempton was followed by two fine seconds at Salisbury at Kempton, latterly chasing home Totally Ours, who gave the form further credence with another win since.

Trainer Willie Haggas has enjoyed a fine start to the season with a couple of big-race successes and Flouncing ought to add to his tally.

There will not be a professional jockey in sight at Sedgefield as they stage an card full of amateur rider events.

In that sphere jockeys do not come any better than Oliver Greenall and he looks to have excellent claims of nothing a winner on Manoubi in the Alderclad Ltd Amateur Riders’ Handicap Chase.

The 11-year-old has been running consistently well of late, a Hexham victory sandwiched by two fine second place finishes at Ayr. Greenall was on board when chasing home Ayr specialist Something Silver last time and this looks a good opportunity for the pair to go one better.
