RACING NEWS FOR TUESDAY 29TH DECEMBER.
- FINIAN’S RAINBOW 2.05 NEWBURY (1 POINT WIN).
Despite the rantings of the grumpy old men on William Hill Radio saying that the Henderson bubble had burst Nicky Henderson is still training winners & lots of them, He must have a good chance of winning the 12.00 at Newbury with Dave’s Dream or Working Title, He had 5 horses entered for this race & runs the 2 but it still looks tricky with the improving Nicholls trained horse Take The Breeze in the field & french trainer F Doumen running a horse that has been pulled up on it’s last 2 starts so i wonder what he’s up to, Henderson should win the 1.30 at Newbury with Quantitativeeasing, He also had Bellvano, Master Of The Hall & General Miller entered in this race so he wasn’t short of choices, However at the time of writing the horse is 8/15 on betfair so is too short to recommend as a bet, The horse that could follow him home is the Warren Greatrex trained Smooth Classic who should run really well on his first try over hurdles at a decent price, But today i am having just 1 bet & that is on another Henderson trained runner Finian’s Rainbow in the 2.05 Newbury, This horse made his debut in an Irish point to point in march 2008 & was well in command going over the last when falling, He then went to Nicky Henderson & made his debut in a 2m bumper at Kempton in march this year where he was always going easy & won as he liked by 6 lengths with the rest of the field well strung out behind him, His hurdling debut was delayed as he was out of sorts for a while so he was given time, He found schooling over hurdles very easy & made his hurdling debut in a 2m novice hurdle at Newbury in november where he led between the 3rd & 2nd last & pulled 15 lengths clear of hot favourite Sereth (Previous easy winner), The rest of the field where well strung out behind,
The Barney Curly trained favourite Sereth was a real taliking horse that day, All the TV Pundits were raving on about how good the horse was & he was heavily gambled on but easily brushed aside by Finian’s Rainbow, There are some good horses in todays race but most of them are 4yo’s & 5yo’s, Finian’s Rainbow is a big strong 6yo who has been given time, He will make an excellent novice chaser next year, It takes a good horse to win a bumper on a tight track like Kempton & then go & destroy a decent field on a galloping track like Newbury, I think he’ll be too strong for these today.
