Another poor set of cards today with Catterick, as grim as it gets for a day of racing in winter, Folkstone and Southwell being the venues on Tuesday.
The quality that is coming our way over the next couple of weeks could not be further from the fayre on the menu today. If you were thinking of a day off to get ready for the holidays, then this is it!
My plan is to try and steal a few quid, but it will be hard work. I reckon I have found a couple that could do it, one at Folkstone and the other at my not so favourite course, Catterick. Here they are;
13:00 Folkstone- You’re So Vain- Win. Named after a famous Carly Simon Song, You’re So Vain was a very good winner first time up in a bumper and goes straight over hurdles for the very in form Warren Greatrex. Noel Fehily takes the ride, a jockey I think is under rated in the shadow of the likes of McCoy and Johnson, and is a big positive here. Samurai Way is an interesting horse who was rated 108 on the flat but has failed tos parkle so far over jumps. He didn’t seem to appreciate the jumping game to me and looks vulnerable again here to a potentially exciting type. McCoy rides Ashley Lad for Nick Gifford and should be respected but I think that we are on the right one at what I hope is a decent price with You’re So Vain.

Blue Sky a long way off!
1:50 Catterick, Youngstown- Win. It will be heavy at Catterick, it will be grim too, going to the toilet in the open air toilets in the pouring rain is not my idea of a great day out! I will be at home in the warmth watching on Racing UK. Donald McCain is in form, winning with one in four of his runners over the last couple of weeks. We know that the gelding will handle the conditions and with Jason Maguire in the saddle we have another good pilot at the controls. He won well last time at Market Rasen and I think he is on a fair mark in this handicap that will be a proper test of stamina. He should be fresh after exactly a month since his last outing, all the boxes are ticked and I make Youngstown my Nap of the day.
The best advice is to take it easy and keep stakes to a minimum on Tuesday.
Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Tuesday 15 December;
13:00 Folkstone- You’re So Vain- Win
1:50 Catterick, Youngstown- Win
Dont Worry it gets better soon…
