It’s December and it really is winter. My friend who lives in Hexham sent me a text to say it was snowing! The summer seems a long way off now doesn’t it?
The all-weather flat cards are are a far cry from those at York and Royal Ascot, but the jumps season has been sensational so far. Jumping is the one thing that makes the winter enjoyable.
Having said that I am focusing on jumps, which indeed I am, I still have a quick look at the all-weather cards. Today there is one horse that sticks out like a sore thumb which should win and if is a good price is a plunge horse.
14:00 Lingfield, Ebraam- Win. Last time out Ebraam was second in a listed event over six furlongs at Lingfield. Today he is dropped into a claimer off a mark of 97. The stable acquired the horse from a similar event at Wolverhampton having seen him bolt up by eight lengths. It is hard to see why he is now in a claimer again but regardless of the whys and wherefores he is and will take a world of beating, I am hoping the layers are feeling generous and of so I will have a decent bet. It is hard to see, if reproducing his run in listed company that he can get beaten here.

Venitia Williams trains Mobaasher
12:50 Southwell, Mobaasher, Win. Having been with Paul Nicholls Mobaasher makes his debut for Venitia Williams and goes over fences for the first time. Rated 157 over hurdles Mobaasher has the potential to be a very high class chaser. My bet will depend on what price on offer, which is how the whole day shapes up. If the price is right, as Brucie might say, then Mobaasher will be my bet of the day.
The best bet today is a double on Ebraam and on Mobaasher, which will give us a respectable return.
13:40 Hereford, Opening Meet- Win. A good winner last time out which was in a bumper and now makes his debut over over hurdles. Ruby Walsh takes the ride and once again we are in the hands of the market. If the price represents some value then it is a bet, if not I will let it go. In the context of this race Opening Meet looks the one to be on, but if it is too short it stops being value.
I may opt for another multi-bet with all three selections.
Carl Harris’ Best Bets for Tuesday 1 December
