Paddy Power cuts Conduit to 7-4 favourite
Top-class English and Irish form will be put to the test by Look Here, who is a 13-2 shot with Paddy for Saturday’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, after last year’s English Oaks heroine was among today’s 11 confirmations for one of the most prestigious middle distance events in the world this weekend.
The Hernando filly went down by two noses in third in the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom in June in a race won by Ask, who reopposes and is a 11-1 chance with Power, before filling the same position in the 10-furlong Audi Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh later in the same month.
Her trainer Ralph Beckett is looking forward to stepping his charge back up to a mile and a half. The Hampshire handler said this morning: “She is fine, in good nick, and has gone well since the Pretty Polly. I would think that the way the race will be run, the distance and the track will all suit her.”
Although the four-year-old has won on good to soft ground, when she landed her maiden from Doctor Fremantle at Salisbury, Beckett is hoping that the forecast unsettled week of weather does not include much rain around the Berkshire area.
He added: “She would prefer quicker ground than a slower surface. It was a close battle with Ask at Epsom and I am looking forward to the race and taking him on again.”
Conduit was this morning cut to 7-4 favourite (from 15-8 favourite), while stable companion Tartan Bearer, who is also owned by Ballymacoll Stud, was simultaneously pushed out to 9-2, but is back into 7-2 after the confirmations. Golden Sword was also on the drift this morning with the world’s friendliest bookmaker, who went 6-1 (from 5), but is again a 5-1 shout after the confirmations.
Paddy Power spokesman Paddy Power said: “The way that the shrewd money came for Conduit this morning, we are pretty sure that he will be Ryan Moore’s mount and have been forced to cut him into 7-4 favourite. But it’s highly intriguing that Moore could still change his mind and that Ballymacoll has suggested that it can’t separate Conduit and Tartan Bearer.”
